Well, you won’t have Erik Christensen to kick around anymore!

Courtesy of The Associated Press:

ST. PAUL, Minn. ā€” The Minnesota Wild have traded forward Casey Wellman to the Rangers for center Erik Christensen and a conditional seventh-round draft choice.
Wellman, 24, has two goals and five assists in 14 games with the Wild this season. He has spent most of his time this season with the Wild’s AHL affiliate in Houston, where he had 13 goals and 11 assists in 25 games.
Christensen should help the Wild’s depth at center. The 28-year-old had one goal and four assists in 20 games with the Rangers. His best season came with Pittsburgh in 2006-07, when he scored 18 goals.
The conditional draft choice the Wild will receive is in 2013.

Ha! I’m sure WW is all like getting nervous and stuff. I know I would be if I were him…

Watch EC “find himself” and score tons of goals in a couple of years.

    Farewell EC!

  2. Katie Strang is a moron: “The Rangers sent defenseman Jeff Woywitka and winger Wojtek Wolski on AHL conditioning stints Thursday and further pared down their roster Friday, when they traded center Erik Christensen and a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2013 to the Minnesota Wild. Those three moves whittled the roster to 22, which allows the team to activate Eminger in advance of Sunday’s game (the active roster limit is 23).”

Conditioning stints don’t effect roster size. Obviously the size was at 23 with EC, WW, and Wadewitka being healthy scratches. Speaking of which, Woywitka won’t be able to wear #6 in Hartford! But they should leave him down there (which of course involves waivers and offering him back to Montreal).

  3. Some more gems…

“sick video man, underrated player with? amazing hands and snipe. Torts better keep him in more than 40 games this year. Excellent”

    “Dubinsky-Christensen-Gaborik=? best line ever”

“never heard of this dude and hes unreal!!! sick video!and that dish? at 1:27 made me cry”

“Glad he’ll be back. Love the way he plays the game. And of? course, great video, Loffen. The interview in the beginning was a great build up”

    “Sick hands, underrated player”

    “Peewee Herman!?”

LOL! Glad to know I’m not the only one who thinks he looks like Pee Wee!

  4. watch EC go on a rampage and become the hottest player in the NHL for the remainder of the season! I can see this now: “Erik Christensen – star of the second half with 15 goals and 25 assists”

  5. someone may be able to explain this better
especially someone who pays much more attention
    i’m guessing that it’s a matter of
    some long term, expensive contracts
(i.e. Avery) and others going off the books

maybe he’s looking at what’s potentially able to go off the
    books via trade, waiver….

    i guess…..

  6. Carp – Do you mean $67 million in salary? It is because of how much “banked” cap space they have from not spending to the cap earlier in the season. I think it is legal as long as your roster does not go over the cap for next season with players who are not free agents.

  7. billybleedsblue on

miked, that’s a fair write-up. You’ll have to let us know how EC is doing when he’s sent down…

I think it’s pretty much small win-win for both teams, although, it being the Rangers and all, EC’s chances of becoming an ALL STAR CENTER have now gone up considerably.

  8. Carp – I see waht you mean on the Avalanche. Since their cap-salary is so low, they are banking potential cap space every day, so in theory, they could add $67M worth of average annual salary at deadline day based on their team right now. Though I thought teams couldn’t go over a daily cap; their player salaries combined have to be below the cap every day I thought.

  9. billybleedsblue on

lol CCCP… eh, I admit, I liked watching him play when he did. I guess this is just better for everybody though. As annoying as it will be to see him blossom into an All Star, I really hope to see him succeed, he’s got some skills for sure.

I wonder how this move fits into the “plan” for the team…is this just a sign of things to come? What else is the Saviour up to? Will he move WW for a bag of pucks and a box of Cubans?

  10. billybleedsblue on

Sally, lol… I’ve already read that one. “fire/vision quests” wow, I mean, somebody was making that up as a joke, right? hahahaha I love best of.

  11. Spider, I still have no idea what that means. So Colorado can add the entire Rangers’ roster to their cap at the deadline, and still have room to spare?

c giacomo, he didn’t design and build the sewers of Paris; he condemned them.

  12. billybleedsblue on

Sally, I’m still giggling from that last bit about the bears. I mean, really? That was fabricated like 99% of everything else on craigslist, right?

hahahahaaaa there are some other gems that are totally rated R or worse that I won’t link on this site, but ‘best of’ is totally hilarious.

  13. Yeah, there’s no way that’s real. Still, it reminded me of my ex so I just sent it to him on facebook in case he’s interested.

  14. ….and somewhere out on a lake, you can hear a gun going off in a small fishing boat….Goodbye, Fredo…Goodbye…

  15. Evening gang.

Hermey the Elf is gone? Good for him. I hope he does well out west. Always had the skills, imo, just not the confidence or the willpower to have ‘jam’ every night.

  16. Mickey,

LOL. One of the hardest laughs of many I’ve gotten from this website. Thanks for sharing!

  17. billybleedsblue on

Mickey, I just looked at the GIF of Stan again and I’ve confirmed beyond any doubt: it’s HILARIOUS.

hahahhaa, how did you find that? hahaha, regardless, thanks again :D

  18. I know, billy! I’m still cackling over it. DoBoer in the background somehow makes it funnier.

Ohh, I have my ways ;)

since we are quoting former presidents who said the following: “I don’t want another byfuglien-damn Dien Bien Phu!”

  20. Olga Folkyerself on

Sather also gave up a 7th round pick in the EC trade!?!

That’s where he does his best drafting.

  21. Olga Folkyerself on

We’re still in hibernation E3. Slatsko did get to kill the ground hog when he stuck his head out. He thought it was a Sather sighting. I guess Sather saw his shadow. We have more weeks of trades before spring.

  22. Olga Folkyerself on

Frolik took a 4 min high sticking penalty earlier. The announcer asked “Will we see Frolik again?” His partner said “Not unless you look down to the end of the bench.”

ā€œIā€™m all yours,ā€ whispered the cole slaw. loolz

Am I the only one that got excited reading that? :P WTB

Hambone Posse at the Viagra Center WOOOOOOOoooo hoooo ,ooh that hurt!, ooh my Hip!

  24. Commmon Spider ease up dude. Katie’s a moron? Seriously like you knew the rule off the top of your head?

  25. First off, what does this trade do for the Rangers? It’s not salary cap relief, because they make about the same in the final year of their contracts. It’s not like the Rangers have such awesome depth at forward, that they can afford to move a depth player. I know EC was invisible most of the time, but did Torts really give him a chance to play 13-15 minutes a game consistently?
I also hate the fact that they gave up a draft pick. If it was a major deal, I wouldn’t feel as bad, but this looks like a lateral trade at best, and draft picks are always important, no matter what round they are.

On a different note, I enjoy Pierre Maguire’s knowledge and insight into the game. He made a point during the Sabre’s game that Torts was a power-play specialist as an assistant for the Sabres. If he’s such a great power-play mind, doesn’t he have to be held accountable for this travesty the Rangers call a power play? I mean, I always hear this team is what he wants, hard working, tough, checkers both ways. Has it dawned on him that you actually need skilled guys on the PP to create space, make sharp, crisp passes, and drill the net with one timers, and keep the defense on its heels, instead of them keeping us on our heels?

Dde – the giants have blown my mind this season. That game vs the niners matched game 7 bs the devils in 94 for sheer nerve wracking levels…

I am shocked and elated – giants rangers – who knew?

  33. One of the main reasons EC was “invisible” most of the time was because he was on the bench.

I have often wondered ( in print) why so little respect was given him taking into the account that when he did get to play his play was not so very different than others, but he had the mark of fan disapproval on him for eons, and then only had sporadic moments to redeem himself. i have always admired his “limitations when accompanied by his talents which he had. Now he joins Gilroy in having been discarded by Rangers, but has a chance to redeem himself in a different venue.

One cannot in all good conscience keep vilifying him while at the same time overlooking the play of Richards ( and for a lot more money to be sure.)
