Blueshirts Sit atop Eastern Conference Standings through 41 Games

New York, January 13, 2012 – The New York Rangers have reached the mid-way point of their regular season schedule with a record of 27-10-4 through 41 games.  The Rangers are off to their best start in 40 years, and third best start in franchise history, with 58 points to sit atop the Eastern Conference standings and rank second in the league overall.  New York has posted four winning streaks of five games or longer this season, which is the most in the league, and marks the first time in franchise history the Rangers have done so through the team’s opening 41 games.  The Rangers are also off to their best start at Madison Square Garden since 1995-96 with a 13-4-2 record at home.

The Rangers’ charge has been led by veterans Henrik Lundqvist, Marian Gaborik and Dan Girardi, who were recently selected as NHL All-Stars.  Lundqvist currently ranks third in the NHL in goals against average, is tied for third in save percentage, fifth in wins and fifth in shutouts.  Gaborik is tied for third among all NHL skaters in goals, and Girardi leads the league in average ice time and ranks fourth in blocked shots.  It is the first time since the 1996-97 season the Rangers had three players selected for the All-Star Game (Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier and Brian Leetch).  Head Coach John Tortorella also clinched an All-Star berth, becoming the first Rangers coach in franchise history to coach in the All-Star Game.

First-year captain Ryan Callahan is on a career-high pace in goals, assists and points while ranking among the league leaders in hits and blocked shots by a forward.  Defensemen Michael Del Zotto and Ryan McDonagh continue their development into a larger role with the team, as two of the Rangers top four defensemen from last season, Marc Staal and Michael Sauer, have missed a combined 58 games to injury thus far.  Del Zotto is currently tied for fifth in the NHL, and second among league defensemen, with a plus-24 rating, and leads all Rangers defensemen in goals, assists and points.  McDonagh ranks 12th in the NHL in average ice time and is tied for seventh in blocked shots.

New York has seen nine new players make their debut as a Blueshirt during the first half of the season – free agent acquisitions Brad Richards and Mike Rupp, along with Jeff Woywitka, Brendan Bell, Andre Deveaux, Anton Stralman, John Mitchell, and rookies Tim Erixon and Carl Hagelin.  Richards, who ranks second in the NHL with six game-winning goals, posted a five-game point streak to begin his Rangers career, the longest by a new Ranger to start the season since Marian Gaborik in 2009-10.  Rupp missed 22 games to injury early in the season, but returned to action in the middle of December and registered two goals to capture first star honors in the NHL Winter Classic.  Hagelin was recalled from the Rangers’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Connecticut Whale on November 24th, and posted a four-game point streak to begin his career, the longest by a Ranger rookie since Steven King began his career with a four-game point streak in 1992-93 (courtesy of the Elias Sports Bureau).

The Rangers opened the 2011-12 Season on October 7th and 8th in Stockholm, Sweden as part of the 2011 Compuware NHL Premiere.  It was the second time the Blueshirts made a trip overseas for the NHL Premiere, having been a part of the 2008 NHL Premiere in Prague, Czech Republic.  The Rangers travelled to Europe on September 26th to kick-off a 12-day, six-game trip through the continent, beginning with exhibition contests in Prague, Czech Republic, Gothenburg, Sweden, Bratislava, Slovakia and Zug, Switzerland.  Their European tour culminated with back-to-back games on October 7th and 8th against the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks in Stockholm, Sweden.

Ryan Callahan registered the Rangers’ first goal of the season at 15:22 of the first period in their season opener on October 7th, while making his debut as the team’s captain.  Named the 26th captain in franchise history on September 12th, Callahan also established a Rangers record for most shots in a season opener with a career-high, 11 shots on goal, which also represents the most by an NHL player in a season-opening game since Pavel Bure registered 11 shots on October 3rd, 1997.

The Rangers returned to North America with a 0-0-2 record, as they continued their season-opening seven-game road trip.  The road trip established a franchise record for longest stretch away from Madison Square Garden to begin a season, breaking the old record of five games set in 1952-53 and 1953-54.  It was only the seventh time in franchise history the Rangers had a road trip of seven games or longer at any point of the season.  The road trip culminated with a four-game swing through Western Canada from October 18th to October 24th, with stops in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg.  The Rangers began the Western Canada trip with wins in Vancouver and Calgary, marking the first time the team won in those two cities in the same season since 1986-87.  New York concluded the trip with a 2-1 victory in Winnipeg on October 24th, marking the Blueshirts’ first visit to Winnipeg since facing the former Winnipeg Jets franchise on November 17th, 1995. It was their first win in Winnipeg since a 5-4 victory on November 21st, 1992.  The Rangers completed their season-opening seven-game road trip with a 3-2-2 record, including a 3-1-0 mark through Western Canada.

The Rangers’ home opener at Madison Square Garden took place on October 27th against the Toronto Maple Leafs, their latest home opener since they opened the 1948-49 season on October 27th, 1948 (excluding the lockout-shortened 1994-95 Season).  The Blueshirts, who were the last team in the NHL to play their home opener this season, were defeated by their Original Six opponent, 4-2.  The Rangers’ home opener allowed fans to experience the first phase of the three year, top-to-bottom historic Madison Square Garden Transformation, for the first time.

New York entered their contest on October 31st against the San Jose Sharks with a 3-3-3 record.  The Rangers defeated the Sharks, 5-2, to begin a seven-game winning streak that concluded with a 4-2 win over Atlantic Division rival New York Islanders in Long Island on November 15th.  The winning streak was the team’s longest since 2009-10, and just three wins shy of the franchise record streak of 10 straight wins established in 1972-73.  The Rangers out-scored their opponents, 27-11, having registered the game’s first goal in six of the seven games.  In the 425:00 of game action during the streak, the Rangers held the lead for 250:28 (58.9%), were tied for 173:50 (40.9%) and trailed for only 0:42 (0.2%), according to the Elias Sports Bureau.  Ryan Callahan (five goals, three assists) and Derek Stepan (three goals, five assists) tied for the team lead with eight points apiece during the seven-game winning streak, while Henrik Lundqvist (5-0-0, 1.77 goals against average, .941 save percentage) and Martin Biron (2-0-0, 1.00 goals against average, .959 save percentage, one shutout) combined for a 1.55 goals against average and .946 save percentage over the span.

The Rangers finished the month of November with a 9-2-0 record, and carried that momentum into a busy December schedule.  New York was scheduled for 15 games, their second busiest month of the season after March, including eight on the road and two back-to-back sets.  The Rangers posted a record of 10-4-1, marking the first time the team won 10 games in a month since October of 2008.  One of those 10 wins, a 4-1 victory at Buffalo on December 10th, was the Rangers’ 2,500th win in franchise history, making the Blueshirts the fifth team in NHL history to reach the milestone along with Boston, Detroit, Montreal and Toronto.

The month of December also saw HBO film crews follow the Rangers, giving fans and viewers a behind the scenes look at the team in the critically acclaimed series 24/7 Flyers/Rangers: Road to the NHL Winter Classic.  The series featured the Rangers in four episodes leading up to and through the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic game against the Philadelphia Flyers at Citizen’s Bank Park on January 2nd.

In the fifth annual Winter Classic, the Rangers erased a two-goal deficit to defeat their Atlantic Division rival Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, in front of 46,967 fans.  After a scoreless first period, the Flyers and Rangers combined for three goals in a 2:25 span of the second.  Brayden Schenn and Claude Giroux gave Philadelphia a 2-0 lead with goals at 12:26 and 14:21 of the middle frame, respectively.  Mike Rupp responded 30 seconds later to cut the Flyers’ lead to 2-1 heading into the third period.  Rupp tallied his second goal of the game at 2:41 of the third to tie it up, and Brad Richards notched the eventual game-winner at 5:21.  Henrik Lundqvist made 34 saves, and turned aside the first penalty shot attempt in a NHL Winter Classic game with 20 seconds remaining in regulation, to record the win.  Brandon Prust and John Mitchell recorded two assists apiece, while Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Callahan each tallied an assist.  Marc Staal made his season debut after missing the first 36 games of the season with a concussion suffered last season.

The Rangers are the first team to play in the NHL Premiere in Europe and the NHL Winter Classic in the same year.

The Blueshirts are now 4-1-0 in January and have registered at least one point in 26 of their last 33 games (24-7-2) dating back to October 29th, after beginning the season with a 3-3-2 mark.  The Rangers sit atop the Eastern Conference standings, and rank second in the league overall, with a record of 27-10-4 (58 points).  According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this is the latest the Rangers have been in first place of the Eastern Conference standings since the 1995-96 season, when New York held the top position through games played on March 15, 1996 (game #68).  The Blueshirts rank among the league leaders in several statistical categories, including first in fewest regulation losses (10), second in points (58), winning percentage (.725) and hits (1,171), tied for third in wins (27), regulation/overtime wins (25) and plus/minus rating (plus-30), tied for second in fewest goals against (83) and goals against average (2.02), fourth in goal differential (plus-32) and fifth in blocked shots (669).

  1. Just got an email from the Rangers saying Sunday 2/19 game versus Columbus now an 8pm start (no confirmation but 99% sure due to ABC picking up Knicks-Mavs which made it a 1pm game instead of a 12:30pm start.

So they pushed the NYR back…can’t remember last time a home game started at 8pm…if ever

  6. Carp,

My company firewall denies access to anything that uses that chat technology…will a transcript be posted?

  7. It’s not that groundbreaking there, Evan. I can sum it up.

Avery, Wolski, Bobby Ryan, Getzlaf, Suter?, Shea Weber, Torts, PP, Hagelin on PP, Boyle stinks, Let’s Go Rangers

  8. Much thanks Manny and Eddie!

Any thoughts on what it takes to pry Suter or rent Weber from Nashville?

  9. Tony, those folks are the exception to the rule :) Plus, they’re Ranger fans…

e3, I hear you, and others, but I don’t care if the post reads Avery Rules!!!…I despise when people post as others, particular when it’s me that’s being impostered :)

  10. Well, Evan. Glad you asked. Nashville can only re-sign one of those behemoths. Suter is I think more likely to be moved whereas Shea Weber is the one more likely to stay. This is based on my own theories and they have nothing to do with inside information or anything else that supports my contention.

I think to get Suter now, as a rental, Nashville is going to want some serious goods. Obviously the package for either would be monumental but for Suter I would assume they would want something like Stepan, McDonagh or Del Zotto and a pick. They are very cost conscious down there so they wouldn’t be willing to look at Dubinsky I assume. Those guys are SO good (Weber and Suter) but I doubt we really need to strengthen our D corps.

If you ask my opinion two guys that I would like to see on our PP are currently playing in Florida and named B. Campbell and J. Garrison. Campbell is a crazily offensive minded D-Man and racks up assists like they are skittles. Garrison has an absolute Chara-like bomb from the point. Bomb.

  11. It was on the chat Manny…..whatever. I think most regular folks know me well enough by now to know what’s real and what’s not. I just don’t like it. Even though I would love to have tr back!

  12. Manny,

Start with the two D from Florida. No way, B Campbell and his $7.1 million Cap Hit and Salary for the next five years are coming to Broadway which is probably a good thing. Garrisson on the other hand makes $675K and is an UFA (both according to CapGeek) at the end of this year so perhaps Florida would be willing to trade him if they don’t think they’re going to be able to sign him. On the flip side, if they think he might re-sign with them and they’re still in contention for the playoffs, Florida may have no interest in parting with him.

As for Nashville, they’re currently sixth in the west so still thinking playoffs which means big time cashflow infusion there so I agree they’re likely to want NHL players in return. Was hoping some combination of Sauer, Thomas/Bourque and 1st Rounder might be a solid bid but I may be overly optimistic. Can’t see Sather parting with any of the three (Stepan, McD or MDZ for anything other than Steven Stamkos.

  13. I did completely forget about Campbell’s absurd contract. He also plays NO Defense. I mean NONE.

  14. I don’t often advocate for trades, but I would love Weber. One of the few non-Rangers I really like, not just admire.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but:

Been meaning to respond to this for a while, cause it was so cool.

Beerability (editor’s note. I’m not a beer drinker, but we’ll stick with that ability just for the sake of the point) In no particular order, except for number 1:

    10. Manny— had a beer with him! Awesome! Only down side, he talks a lot about his beautiful wife (then fiancé).

    9. CCCP—had a beer with him! Awesome! When I’m not wanting to slap him upside his head.

    8. Tiki— had a beer with him! Awesome! But after, two, look out!

    7. Grabby – had a beer with him! Awesome! But he talks about his beautiful wife a lot.

    6. ilb – had a beer with him! What can I say. Oh captain, my captain.

    5. Fozzy – had a beer with her! What happens in Havertown, White Plains, NYC etc., stays there J

    4. Krisy – had a beer with her! In Sweden no less! When she comes to NYC in March and you don’t meet her, bad mistake.

    3. LW3H— had a beer….um, I had a beer, he had OJ. Still, his accent’s not so bad in person.

    2. CT – had a beer with him! Only future downside…he’ll talk a lot about his beautiful daughter.

1.5. Tony – had a beer with him! Shecky Green with a camera!!

    1. Sally—Need I say more? Me thinks not!

Forgiveness asked from those not on the list. Point is, this blog has lots of folks with lots of abilit :) mama love….

  15. YES – 2/2 on Beerability lists!

Correction Mama – I was drinking straight Jim Beam and you were drinking White Wine if I recall….

  16. So I was just telling my WIFE (that’s right…again Mama) about the conversation about Keenan being best Rangers coach etc…here is her reaction:

“keenan was a great coach and he brought a cup to a team that downright always sucked, but really with him came messier, buke, and graves, we certainly didnt suck anymore”

  17. In fact, only 4 folks on my list actually had beer :)

Sally, there are still some in my house waiting on you :)

  18. Someone say beer??
Has anyone here been to Avery’s bar.. .Warren 77… I think.

Hope the pos gets jail time

  19. johnny, lots of us have. it’s quite fab. nice beer selection, and don’t miss the mac and cheese…..

  20. johnny, you live in city??? if so, why you not ever join us there!

Manny, Krisy lives for the nachos….wants to being her kid there when she visits in March.

  21. My faves: Chicken Sando, Grilled Cheese, Steak Melt

My Wife’s Faves: Nachos (like Krisy), Chili, Chopped Salad

  22. it’s a chicken sandWICH!!! Ct loves that too.

me, every time I go it’s the mac….like nobody else’s. Fozzy even brought some back to Philly for her son on the train!!!

  23. Yea I never, ever SAY Sando out loud. I just typed it for clarity’s sake. Quit getting all over my Asham!

  24. I’m in.baby pens land of Scranton… I get to the Garden about 5times a year and just found all you lovely people recently.

  25. Welcome then johnny! When you get out of The Office (sorry, so bad, but I couldn’t help it) let us know when you get to town…btw, LMAO at lovely people :)

  26. Lovely? Thanks johnnyboy but I bet you will eat those words in 4 months if you spend enough time here! Nice to have you around. And Authorben and the other recent additions. Like HWirth.
Where has HWirth and Latona been?

  27. Well, guess everyone’s off to their non-game Friday night. Lucky you. I’m off to tea and bed :( Later all!

p.s. e3, found the elderberry stuff….fingers crossed! Still think I’m going to the doc next week, unless this magic works….

  28. Mama, you forgot to mention that Ilb’s wife is also very beautiful. Tiki’s ladyfriend is also a looker and he also talks about her WAY too much.

PS. As you may have seen I’m set with the beer at the moment, but save those four for me cause I’ll be back…

  29. Hi, Laurel!
I don’t know about ”beerability”, Blogmama, but I can confirm your endless and universal ability to do whatever things you are doing. I, from other hand, have just one, but great ability on limited field of drinking. Period.

  30. Hello from sunny PR, everyone! Couldn’t make it on time to join the chat, but just finished reading it while mrs is busy. Good stuff, Carp, and a lot of high quality g(j)ibberish too. Did I miss much?

  31. First half. It was Long, Happy Run of Rangers, The Amazing. …and it’s not over yet, we will see more and have more fun from that ride. With any predatory instincts, we have to bury hopeful Toronto and agonizing Montreal in proverbial Communal grave to start this new, long ride.

  32. If you call Cooke a piece of Cooke..is that a double negative??
Only a matter of time for him and Carcillo.

  33. Thanks, 4ever….I’m here for the wedding, not my type of vacation. I prefer active stuff.

  34. Besides, I don’t know much about Latino weddings, but, as you know, russian type weddings could turn VERY active.LOL.

  35. Some interesting trade proposals today. Some very unrealistic. The good news, I don’t think they’re looking for any trades that would require changing team’s chemistry. With 17 games cushion above .500, you can wait and see what becomes available for mid level prospects and high picks.

  36. Prust, I guess, would feel home at russian wedding after 5 min. from 1st face off (beginning).

  37. It’s not a Latino wedding, 4ever…..My co-worker is getting married, it’s a destination wedding. But as you can imagine, I’ve been to a few of Latino weddings before, those are fun. By the way, the Wi-Fi at El Conquistador is excellent, so I’m planning to watch all the games :-)

  38. Sorry for what? I didnt think you said anything wrong….

Why is it so quiet on the blog ? Ran out of gas during the chat? :-)
I’m an hour ahead of you, so I’ll need to be careful with the Go Time…

  39. iWicky (Leeloo Dallas mul-ti-pass) on

Had a beer with mama, she had about 20 and forgot we had a beer!!

  40. Why Carp?

Cause the guy attacks me – and is dead wrong on the facts.

And when it gets inconvenient, he changes the subject or disappears!

There’s the answer – to a question you didnt need to ask.

  41. Hey Rod. I’m glad you missed me. Had a busy week at work (not a bad thing financially) so haven’thad chance to read or post but I’m sure it was positive things knowing how nice you talk to people. As for the facts. They lose one game and now it’s panic time?? Please. They are still 10th in the NHL in offense. Yes, they did get shutout. But then again, they are still 1st overall. And again, I’ve never said they won’t add a player. All I said was it won’t be this big blockbuster with guys from the roster leaving. I’ve said really since Nov. I see a guy like Prospal coming back. And I still don’t see either Doan or Iginla traded because their teams won’t ask them because the are still within striking range of the playoffs.

  42. And I’m sure everyone last night blamed guys like Boyle and Feds for the loss even though they were their best players. Kinda hard to win when you get nothing from the guys who need to score like Richards, Cally, AA and even one my real favorites in Stepan.

  43. I’ve been worried about their lack of offense since the summer, even after they signed Richards, not to mention the last 15 years.

You have a 3rd of the roster producing about 12 goals between them; the PP is a joke.
    Please already.

And I talk nice to everyone who doesn’t attack me, or question my integrity, or who isn’t entirely ungrateful for what I try to bring here, best I can.

Speaking of which, you won’t see either Doan or Iginla traded.

    Cause they both will.

  44. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Mama – if sick take a tablespoon every couple if hours…. Trust me, do and it’s heal thyself…

  46. I am on the side of needing to add a big piece on the left side. the Rangers have enough scoring to succeed in the regular season, but not nearly enough for the playoffs. I don’t want to trade anyone in particular, but for the right return, I would trade any of them( excluding Hank, because what would be the point then).

  47. From the ‘Forgetting how young some of them still are” file;

RMcDonagh27 On the way to Toronto. Never played here before. Pretty excited

  48. bull dog, I agree with the idea, and we’ve heard that a lot … especially since the shutout. but how do you get somebody legit. Because if you’re going to bring in somebody who’s a 20-goal scorer, that’s not an upgrade. and to get a serious 30-goal scorer, you’re going to give up a lot and have to fit him under the cap. and then comes the issue of whether he’s too soft to play the way the Rangers play, because a lot of top-skill guys are soft. There’s not an easy answer, is what I’m saying.

    otherwise I’m saying: Iginla.

  49. Evening gang.

It’s pretty dang cold here in MO. Yet its going to 50 on Monday. I wish the weather would make up its mind.

  50. Carp,

Sorry, had a horrible, horrible week & been tied up.

if u can re-post your email it’d be good ;)

  51. got this email today:
A physician claimed that the following are actual comments made by his patients (predominately male) while he was performing their colonoscopies:
“I usually don’t do this on the first date.”
“Take it easy, Doc. You’re boldly going where no man has gone before!”
    “Find Amelia Earhart yet?”
    “Can you hear me now?”
“Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?”
“You know, in Arkansas, we’re now legally married.”
“Any sign of the trapped miners, Chief?”
“You put your left hand in, you take your left hand out, you put your left and in and you shake it all about….”
“Hey! Now I know how a Muppet feels!”
“If your hand doesn’t fit, you must quit!”
“Hey Doc, let me know if you find my dignity.”
“You used to be an executive at Enron, didn’t you?”
And the best one of them all…
“Could you write a note for my wife saying that, in your considered medical opinion, my head is not up there?”

  52. Good one, Carp – I escorted a friend home from one of those tests yesterday afternoon – wish I had this list then!

  57. NYR, the funniest part about that line was that I kept thinking how incredulous it was that he asked that question. The man can PAY for refills for god’s sake, stop being a penny pincher!

  58. Carp,
if one of Ryan, Getzlaf, or Perry get moved, and the Rangers are not in on it, that would be a huge mistake. same with Iginla, Sleanne, Hejduk, and Doan. they have been stockpiling prospects for just this purpose. either to trade them for a a big player, or replace the player or players traded.

  59. Carp, I couldn’t follow the chat live but I enjoyed reading it now. Those fights you saw in Philly sound awful.

ilb, where are you? Somewhere warm I hope.

I like that the guys were angry after losing last night. I get the feeling it would have ruined their Christmas. Good attitude. Start another winning streak tomorrow.

  60. bull dog

I only like Selanne because he is a HOF guy and he has won a Cup. Plus, his contract is up at the end of the season. I think he is, clearly, the best option for a rental trade this season.

I wouldn’t consider Teemu soft. Maybe, not as hard as he once was…

What does he cost? Would he waive his NTC to come to NY? Interesting questions…

Thanks, Hostman. Like the guy on the railroad, tears fallin’ down…

NYR cited it, finally: Bruins kept on goin’ and goin’ and goin’ last year,
until it got a little better in the last round, with a PP just like the one we’ve grown
to know and love from the locals. But that was an enormous bow to the rest of
their game, especially how mentally tough they were in spite of the
those almost-comic letdowns, one after another, and to the amazing acrobatic fiend in goal.
I wouldn’t think it was a reliable blueprint, even for this year’s B’s, let alone the Rangers.
And the failure continues to be a hard and real mark against all the other good work Torts
    is doing.
As for Boyle, my own amateur-hour plus/minus has him easily plus most games I’ve seen, especially those in which his skates have been sharpened. But I hear a lot of you, even his biggest fans, sayin’ “but he needs to start producing.”
Given their record when he is not, why? It’s not like that goal here and there that will turn a
game’s tide can’t come from at least a half-dozen other places on the current squad. So
what, in your eyes, does he have to do, in practical scoring terms?
There’s an ongoing, occasionally poisonous battle goin’ on here, and as a decided outsider, the guy who takes the most hits from most of you seems to have earned some of them, but his antagonist, while citing that guy’s sins, commits the same ones in the those
very same windy (something like this one in length, I just happened to notice) citations, and mostly gets a pass. Looks like a goose and gander prob to a passerby.

Philly daily sports show, in its hockey segment, said Fllys are lookin’ at Suter, in more than just a scouting sense for upcoming tilt. Another city, I would think it grist for mill. In crazy-active front-office Philly (in spite of serious cap constraints), I paid some attention…

  64. ZzZz NYR ZzZz© " Don't stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

Yeah I thought so , Olga you have to stop brushing your teeth in the toilet.

Now Repeat after me … Sather had done very well lately and he needs a extention on his contract , and that the Chicago Blackhawks are a pathetic Original 6 team.

  65. ZzZz NYR ZzZz© " Don't stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

I ‘ll bet ya .. Rangers vs Canucks , Rangers in 6 . We win the division , Take the presidents trophy and Hank wins everything. Everything.

  66. eddie eddie eddie on

    rangers – canucks could happen……….same with rangers – sharks…………even rangers – blues

    but i sense rangers-hawks

    hank will win everything….

  67. eddie eddie eddie on

the fact that the king is getting a lot of rest now means he will be super sharp come 2nd season

good goaltending wins the cup…….rangers have the best goaltending……therefore, rangers win the cup

tho, the rangers/bruins 7 game series will be a death match…..hopefully, they will have some GAS in the tank

  68. eddie eddie eddie on

olga – you will be in hog heaven come the cup final…..original 6….will be great theater…

  69. Olga Folkyerself on

I’m hoping for NY-Chicago Finals eddie. But Boston will be a challenge. Chicago will have their hands full too, in the west.

  70. ZzZz NYR ZzZz© " Don't stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

The west is funny so it could be a toss up , I dislike the Canucks so to see us beat them would be sweeeeet . Oh BTW Olga , Boogaard died you idiot . BOOOOOOOOOOOOGAAAAAAAARD!!!

Top 3 goals in last 5 years

#1 Gaboriks top circle wrister in the top corner as a new Ranger.

#2 BOOGAARDS’s slapper on a break away!! wow!!

#3 Chris Drury ,when he scored on us in 6.2 seconds….hate that guy!!!!

  71. eddie eddie eddie on

olga – bruins/rangers will likely kill both teams…….the west is anyone’s guess…….i do think the wings have shot their load tho……sharks/hawks/blues/nucks – anyone from that group…

  72. eddie eddie eddie on

caps are coming on…..i hope we dont see them come april…….wouldnt want the leaves in the first round either….

  73. Olga Folkyerself on

I think the Blues will fade. Sharks are always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Detroit has won enough Cups lately. Chicago and Vancouver again would be an awesome semifinal series. That has also been a war.

  74. Olga Folkyerself on

After ORR started posting fake trades, I just got the habit to skip over his posts. Greg is just a gnat to be swatted every time you see one.

  75. eddie eddie eddie on

nyr fan – bite your tongue…have you noticed how peaceful this place is without that ding dong?

  76. He is our boy….

I just don’t like the personal stuff….or taking sides….can’t we just discuss and agree and disagree and joke around like men

peaceful? Is that what it’s called now? ;)

  77. Olga Folkyerself on

Oilers getting smoked by Ducks. 4-0. One more and Renney will have his five in the picture…

  78. Olga Folkyerself on

Rangers should ignore the West and concentrate on the East. The West will only be relevant in the finals.

  79. eddie eddie eddie on

true dat olga…the east is our concern…lets escape it before we worry about the west…

  80. Olga Folkyerself on

To quote Goodfellas- “(Avery) is gone. Well, you what I mean. He’s gone, and we couldn’t do nothing about it.”

  81. Stranger Nation on

Now we’re trading for Defenseman? Weber and Suter are good, but we dont need no stinkin backline help. What’s next a goalie?

  82. “Voros managed to use all of his strength to put a loose puck past Norfolk goaltender Dustin Tokarski (25 saves). Voros’ goal, his third, was assisted by Pavel Valentenko and Mats Zuccarello, playing in his first game since Dec. 9.”

Read the book, liked the movie. Sound in theatre sucked, so audio was mixed and hard to hear some dialogue but the movie has some scenes that will make you sit up in your chair.

Rooney Mara as in Steelers Giants is pretty intense and wears her body suit in many a scene.

  113. eddie eddie eddie on

    3 greatest sports disappointments:

    1. 1998 divisional playoff rd. gmen up my 9 against vikings with 1:38 to play…gmen lose

    2. 2002 divisonal playoff game vs niners gmen up ..what? 35-17….they lose

    3. last year’s gmen eagles game,,a chance to win division and clinch a potential first rd, bye……,gmen up by 21 with 8 minutes left in the 4th Q….gmen lose…and miss playoffs

Eddie, well… redefine… I have switched hats a few times already in this life, and I’m kind of coming back around full circle to where I was about a decade ago… I’m working with tech stuff again, and trying to figure out the best thing to do…

I really need a “real job” which is scary because I’ve been freelancing for so many years (in the arts). I’ll do any kind of computer programming at an entry level, that’s what I’m ready to do. I just finished my undergrad in math/comsci… I don’t have any real prospects right now, just 3 to 4 potential ‘side’ projects of which any COULD someday blossom into something substantial. Can I be more vague or come across as more clueless? lol

    Eddie – Eddie – Eddie –

Re Beatles, I’ll go with Day Tripper, with contenders being There’s A Place, Back In The USSR, Sgt. Pepper + Reprise, and Helter Skelter. As for favorite Beatle, not nice to say but John should have lived and that selfish swine you know who, who broke up the group, I would not have missed for a minute.

John Lennon was one of the finest, most socially-conscious human beings who ever lived. Blessed day in my life when he and Yoko came to the theatre where I was Asst Mgr. to see a film, a few years before he died. I still miss his enlightened presence in our world.

  127. billybleedsblue on

I am considering grad school… I could see myself doing that once I find a job and settle-in. I could do the school “at my own pace” which is the only way I get anything done lol. I would try my hand at Com Sci though before I would ever consider doing math… there’s a great program at City College… Anyways, you are right about “it ain’t work if you love it.” Part of what I’m doing is figuring how to do programming in the Arts. I just got a new lead I’m very excited about.

I wish I had decided to actually study years ago… when I feel I could have had a much easier time with hard sciences and Math. I was so undisciplined and wild lol, which was a lot of fun I spose…

You can imagine my stunned shock, turning on my radio the next morning and hearing that the Eagles came from being down 35-10 with 7 1/2 minutes remaining, to win the DeSean Jackson bowl. See, I had turned off the TV, down 35-10, the day before. Sometimes, I suppose, to pays to suffer to the end.

And it was Trailer Trash City for that Giants roach, er, coach, to dump on the kid in public, like that. What a creep that “Cough Syrup” jerk is.

  137. Olga Folkyerself on

Boom Boom, my vitriol is more for the Flyers than the Eagles. A few bumps in the road for the Giants, but the Eagles always seem to self destruct. As a Giants fan, Dallas is Enemy #1.

  138. Boom Boom Bathgate / "Sloppy Firsts" on

    Eddie –

Yes, I used to tune in to that Beatles program on iTunes, just primarily enjoy their videos on YouTube, now. Really like the fun they have on “Hey Bulldog,” and there is something so serene as regards John’s ambiance on the live Day Tripper performance. Never saw him looking more comfortable, contented, and happy.

That Day Tripper performance intrigues me because, throughout, Paul is aping for the camera, and not once does John look at the camera, he played to his real audience, not the TV crowd. I think John had the better sense of what constitutes good showmanship, there.

I didn’t really meet John, but I was in the lobby when he and Yoko arrived in a gray stretch limo, and left. The cashier called her boyfriend and told him that John was in the house. The boyfriend came over and tried to give John a book in the lobby, as he was leaving. John looked at it, gave it back to him and said “Thanks, I’ve read it.”

I like John more now than back then when I was just focused on the music, because I am more interested in social issues now than I was then. John was extremely mature and way ahead of his generation when it came to social development.

  139. eddie eddie eddie on

You want to know what’s frustrating for me? The Eagles won’t fire Reid who just coached the pre-season Super Bowl co-favorite team OUT of the playoffs; and the Phillies are bringing back theat sub-human amoeba manager for TWO more years. I officially quit being a Philadelphia Phillies fan over that one, not going to suffer it any more. Looking at the A’s as my team of choice, now.

Never going back to the two Phillies blogs I used to patronize – although, of course, one of them blocked me from the blog, thinking I’m a “troll” because I had the temerity to criticize the worst manager in major league baseball history – absolutely the worst of all time – worse than a Communist on Ronald Reagan’s cabinet – for cerebral disintegration.

  150. eddie eddie eddie on

the best is when some middle-aged (at the time) canadian artist…cartoonist, i think – media guru (forget name..could look it up) was interviewing john and yoko in a toronto hotel..and he is giving john a rash of cooke…and john is practically biting his lower lip because he is SERIOUSLY pissed

  151. eddie eddie eddie on
