Live chat tomorrow

Just a heads-up. We’re going to do a last-minute live chat tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. Sorry it’s early, but I have to be somewhere for my, you know, other job at 1.

So we’ll go live at 11:30 and try to get in 45 minutes or an hour of Q&A & comments.

I also wanted to ask youse guys, if you don’t mind, to use a screen name or user name or real name or something other than “guest” when you ask or comment. Just makes it easier for me … and makes it more likely that your question/comment is accepted.

I’ll remind youse in the morning.

I hear Madison Square Garden and Yankee Stadium and the Statue of Liberty and the George Washington Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge and the Chrysler Building and Grand Central Station and the Eighth Avenue Post Office and the New York Public Library and Radio City Music Hall and St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Met will all be donned in Flyers colors tomorrow. Among other iconic landmarks.

Gotta sell those jerseys and wool hats, after all.

About Author

  1. there such a thing as “frequent-busser” miles? If so, I’m gonna clean up!!

Maybe MickeyM, the other 2 or 3 guys, and yours truly will be riding the bus to Hartford…. :-(

  2. Paul in sunrise on

Carp. Hank needs to find quotes less than 140 characters.

I wore orange today too. Reverse psychology. And I am not even a landmark.

Carp-rangers have a game day skate planned? I am in the neighborhood.

  3. no skate tomorrow, Paul. That’s the problem with the rink way out there. team stays in Lauderdale and it’s not worth it to make the trip out there for a 20-minute morning skate. They almost never do in Sunrise.

  4. Carp, it isn’t funny about the city buildings being bathed in Phlyer Orange!! It’s a disgrace!

  5. Kinda happy that by this time next week the “game” that they’ve been hyping up all season is going to be over with. There’s kind of a season here to focus on and that “game” has been a distraction.

  6. I hear you Jimbo. I’m going to get a 55pax party bus from my job and take a ride down to Philly so I can drape a Lundqvist jersey over the Liberty Bell to show “support of the game”..Room for 54 more if anyone’s interested!

  7. even the Rangers think it’s a disgrace, Jimbo. I’m glad I didn’t see the ESB lit up in crud.

Good evening, Sally! I’ve been really hoping I could meet you on your NY trip … but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. Dammit.

  8. Hahaha!!! That sounds like a great idea, James! I’ll bet that the Philly “city fathers” won’t approve of your idea, though!

I’ll be glad when all the hype is over – to me, this is all a big distraction – if the game was here in New York I would feel differently I think, but with it being played in Philly, I really don’t care…

  9. Carp, why is David Putty selling Hondas on TV this season? Shouldn’t he be hawking Devils tickets instead?

  10. Jagr scores a backhand goal for the Phlyers – they now lead 2-1…..the Pitt fans are not happy….

  11. Paul in sunrise on

Thx Carp. Obviously they like the beach hotels better. It’s cold here right now.

Wolski in tomorrow? For who if yes?

  12. billybleedsblue on

Carp, arrrrrrrrgh I will miss the chat! :( Bad timing for me again, oh well, NEXT TIME. :D

Nice write up today man, and I’m glad there was very little if any ‘the sky is falling’ talk around here. That would just be silly. I thought the Rangers looked good in the 1st period, but the Caps corrected their play well enough to take the rest of the game. Were those hits stats for real by the way? They seemed a little off, although, I admit, I was NOT counting.

  13. billybleedsblue on

Jimbo, what’s all this about buildings in ORANGE? what the carcillo is THAT all about?

  14. Billy, it’s all in Carp’s writeup above – referring to the Empire State Building being lit in the Rangers *AND* Flyers colors in honor of the “Winter Classic”…

  15. Boom Boom Bathgate on

CARP – Your arcane Avery reference is missing (probably by design) a step in the sequence. You cite…Sent to Hartford, Recalled, Scratched for about 12 games in a row, and Sent to Hartford, again.

The above should read: Sent to Hartford, Recalled, PLAYED 15 GAMES AND SCORED 3 GOALS IN LIMITED ICE TIME, Scratched for about 12 games in a row, and Sent to Hartford.

    You are welcome.

  16. I havent heard one person who agrees with this nonsense… who the Hell is making that decision… they wouldn’t do that for any other sports team and one of their rivals… Imagine flying Red sox colors in NY because they had a game coming up… or the Eagles…… somebody has their head up their a** and doesn’t know how these things are… and apparently those surrounding him are not much wiser…. or they’re afraid to speak up to the boss… … whoever it is is making this city look silly… they’re laughing at us down in Philly… im sure of it…

  17. billybleedsblue on

HA JIMBO — once I read ‘live chat’ tomorrow, I stopped reading it knowing that I wouldn’t be around :(

not for nothing, I’m all about fairness and inclusion and making everybody warm and fuzzy, especially around the holidays, but… YOU”VE GOTTA BE KIDDING WITH THE WHOLE ORANGE THING! WAY TO GO, NEW YORK. FAIL.

  18. billybleedsblue on

Seriously, you can have the Eighth Avenue Post Office and Radio City Music Hall, but for the love of all that is good, don’t fly those Philthy colors at Saint Pat’s! What a disgrace!

  19. billybleedsblue on

Hat trick? If it is one, it’s an annoyed one, lol, ORANGE? ARE YOU BYFUGLIENING KIDDING ME?

  20. I don’t think they’ll be flying the colors of William of Orange at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Billy – Archbishop Dolan wouldn’t allow it, being a Catholic and an Irishman! ;-D

  21. Here’s a little something for ya, Jimbo.

Sure sounds like Canes are getting ready to rip it down and rebuild around Skinner.

Man, if some of these bottom teams start dealing off major assets, like Eric Staal for instance, there’s no telling what it’ll do to the races. And no, I don’t think we’re getting Staal.
But there’s some big-time help coming on the market, and these other GM’s are like jackals ready to pounce!

  22. Boom Boom Bathgate on

    Jimmy –

I can go for flying Eagles colors in New York. Especially after The Herman Edwards Bowl, The Brian Westbrook Bowl, and, of course, The De Sean Jackson Bowl.

    Works for me. lol.

  23. it was a joke … unfortunately, the two sides of the Empire State Building was not a joke. It was very real. And, yes, Philadelphia is laughing at New York City for a change.

  24. oh, and thank you Boom Boom. But the actual correction should have been … played 15 games, scored three goals, played pretty well in most of them, most of which the Rangers won … was scratched by a coach who hates his guts and makes it personal … etc.

  25. Boom Boom Bathgate on

I admire the man, Carp, (the player, not the coach) that’s all I know, and wish I could call him a personal friend away from the glare.

  26. billybleedsblue on

LOL JIMBO, Orange in St. Pat’s is wrong on more than one level, FOR SURE (hence my choice of words– ‘disgrace’).

Haha, Carp knows how to get us fired-up, what with his run-on sentence followed by an incomplete sentence too. LOL I’m well in English.

  27. Carp has to keep the page hits coming – he needs to pay the bills on his private island in the Caribbean…. ;-D

  28. Boom Boom Bathgate on

I will meet you halfway, Carp: My proposed compromise is that instead of putting Hagelin on the power play, put Avery on the power play. That would surely make everyone here a happy clam.

All I know is that someone deserves more PP time, and it ain’t Fedo Corleone.

  29. billybleedsblue on

Haha, Carp can add “St. Pat’s in orange” to his list of Avery-like rabble-rousing.

  30. MickeyM didn’t want to ride the bus down to Hartford with you-know-who……or EC….or Wolski.

  31. Boom Boom Bathgate on

Put the Brooklyn Dodgers in Citifield, et Voila – no empty seats for the next 500 years.

  32. billybleedsblue on

What’s the over/under on number of times they show the Rangers getting eliminated from the playoffs in the shutout vs. Philly? Grrrrrrr…

  33. Evening gang. Back in upstate NY after my quick trip to DC. Had a wonderful lunch with Jimbo on my way back today. He’s even nicer in person than on the blog :)

That makes TWO Boneheads I’ve met in person and both have been great experiences. Major kudos to you, Carp, for fostering and sustaining a community of kind, generous, funny and all around great people, all while holding down your real job. Sadly, I don’t think I can make the live chat tomorrow as I have a lunch date with some out of town college friends who are driving through :(

  34. billybleedsblue on

Mickey, ” a community of kind, generous, funny and all around great people” lol, 1 out of 4 ain’t so bad? Seriously though, although having never met anyone IRL from here, I concur on half of those most of the time. There are probably a few 3 out of 4 around here, and some exceptional 4 for 4 peoples in this ‘community.’ I’ll take 1 out of 4 though– ‘all around great people’ thank you (modest too).

  35. Don’t know if it was mentioned or brought up but Jags had nothing but kind words for the Rangers org and the Rangers fans on 24/7 last night…

I don’t think its cool that he will probably still get booed when he plays at MSG…

  36. billy, for the most part, I find the ‘heads to be all 4 of those. Yeah there are some that may only qualify for one or two, but I would say that it covers 90-95% of them.

  37. Boom Boom Bathgate on

Fedo Corleone the politician’s campaign slogan: “Walk softly and carry a little stick.”

  38. Thank you for the kind words, Mickey – even after I threatened you with a demotion to Hartford along with several players after your unfortunate attendance at the teams last two losses! ;-)

  39. NYR, Jags got booed enthusiastically by the Pitt fans tonight – and he scored a neat backhand goal on his old team to aggravate those fans even more – he was a dynamo for Philthy tonight.

    Flys won, 4-2.

  40. reginald dunlop on

yep……gotta hate those over the head camera shots……they can even make a guy with a full head of hair seem thinning up top……..ha ha ha

  41. Yeah, NYR – he really looked like he wanted to give the fans something to boo about – and he did the “salute” after he scored, too – referring back to his old days there when he did that all the time.

Talbot scored an ENG for the Flys, too – Pitt fans were not happy campers tonight…

  42. Wow! I tuned out of the Habs-TB game when the Habs were up 3-1….but I see that the Bolts won in regulation, 4-3…..they can still score a lot of goals, so I hope our guys are ready for them tomorrow.

Glad they beat the Habs, though!

  43. Carp,
Went to the game last night, they really didn’t play awful, Gabby missed a early open net tap in and the Caps played well, but the big thing is Richards was almost invisible on the ice and really and truly Boyle does not have hockey sense and It can never be taught besides being soft. It was like the just took up ice time and did nothing. Oh well.

  44. Boom Boom Bathgate on

Mickey: Just an inch or two for Christmas. Rain in the forecast for tomorrow. When I was a kid growing up here, believe me, it never rained in southern Lewis County in the wintertime.

Some say the change is due to Global this or that, some say it is due to some nuclear power plant upstate which interferes with the ” Lake (Ontario) Effect” which frequently buries us in snow. I just don’t know.

  45. Wasn’t it, NYR? He’s an amazing physical specimen – and all throughout the game, Pens players were trying to muscle him off the puck, and they just couldn’t do it.

  46. I wonder if Richards is ailing with some injury or illness? He hasn’t looked himself in the last few games they’ve played….

  47. billybleedsblue on

Yeah, Richards is suffering from a little-known affliction called green-back-itus. Apparently, it only affects 1% of the population, so chances are, it’s nothing for any of us to worry about. Hahaha, he’s rich!

  48. So nobody’s interested in the Canes selloff? Ok.

But looking around the league, it seems at a minimum, there are a half dozen current or

one-time franchise players getting set to move.

And where they end up can alter things dramatically.

  49. Goodnight, Mickey – and OK, hold me to it, but give me a little more time to get you down there and back next time! :-)

  50. Rod, where did you read about the Cane’s selling off a lot of their players? I saw your comment, but no further info….
