Tortorella, Boyle, Lundqvist post-game

68

Sorry. Had some technical difficulties with the new computer system at the paper … so I missed most of the lockerroom.

Here’s a quote from Brian Boyle about his shot-blocking at the end of the second period:

“That’s old news for our team. That’s what we do. That’s a big part of how we defend. We get over there and we block it. That’s how we play. Everyone buys into that.”

Henrik Lundqvist:

“What’s good about this team, especially this year, is we expect a lot from each other in the room here. It doesn’t matter if you won two in a row or four in a row. We come back with the same effort, and that’s what we need if we want to be a top team. That’s where it starts. It was tough today coming back with two days off. I think the first half we were trying to get going and after that the speed clicked up a little bit and the intensity picked up.”

And Lundqvist on being first in the East:

“It’s a good feeling, no question. It doesn’t mean a lot, but it feels good. Obviously, it’s good for your confidence, knowing you’re doing good stuff here. We’re doing the right things and we’re winning. That’s what it’s all about.”

Here is the audio from John Tortorella’s post-game press conference:

  1. What a happy Day!Rangers won, Hornie Debbies lost!
1st in Conf. and 1st sniper in the Ligue. Even if a short live – huge achivement.

  2. …and that’s from the girl who Folk herself every day, watching Blackhawks team photo. Bwa-a-aha-ha!!!

  3. During the game, I thought about how much Torts has grown and adapted over the past couple of years. Remember when he came in, it was all about “safe is death” and trying to force a system our team wasn’t built for. Now, instead of “safe is death,” it’s “defense is life.” He’s adapted from an all-out offensive system to one that puts primary responsibility on defense, and even with half our D out injured (including our #1), we’re playing outstanding TEAM defense.

Can’t read either, eh? English isn’t your first language is it?

    Learn English.
    Learn to type.
    Then STFU.

  5. Aside from the good news at the Garden tonight…
JT Miller netted a PPG for team USA at the World Juniors as part of their 11-3 route of Denmark

  6. boxcareddiehospodar on

remind me again why boyle is still in this lineup?
he blocks a few shots and he is a darling.
    a waste of a spot.

  7. A really good game tonight. It wasn’t pretty but a good effort. Likely not a win if Hank was not so good tonight.

    Chicago wins 4-1

    Best in the West.

    Rangers win 3-0

    Beast in the East.

What’s to gripe about? It’s been a glorious evening.

  9. For change this time you’re absolutely right girl; it’s not my native, just one of another 5 I know, but still good enough to understand how poor is yours and how little you can use yours to express your picayune self…besides no imagination at all as usual, in this pee-size parrot’s brain, just repetition of everything. As I say, same pathetic old carsillo in Chicago game days, nothing more. Yawn…

  10. Wow, … “Iuppiter iratus ergo nefas.. – “(doubt you know Latin), so.
“Jupiter, you are angry therefore you are wrong”. “Stupid verse from Lucius to you.

  11. But, our intellectual precious:
    “Absit reverentia vero”
Translation for slightly challenged: “The truth shouldn’t be silenced to spare someone.”

  12. First two were worst two periods Rangers have played in a while I thought.
Game should’ve been at least 3-1 Isles heading into final period except for Hank,
    who was exceptional.

What were they, 0-for-5 on the power play?

A wins a win but these are ugly-ass victories that show their offensive weaknesses.

Sather needs to get busy and – finally – finish building this thing.

  13. Boyle busts his ass getting back on D (usually against others’ top lines),
killing penalties, being physical, sticking up for his teammates and maintaining order, winning draws, and yeah, crippling himself blocking shots.

That’s why he’s in the lineup.

  14. For old time’s sake (I miss the guy…):

I would look to trade Hagelin to say Detroit or Minnesota for a 2nd round pick. We simply have too much depth and too many better prospects and veterans in AHL, he will just waste away here.

    *bob September 24th, 2011 at 8:54 am*

yes, Hagelin doesn’t impress me at all and if we can get a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him we should move him.

    *bob September 24th, 2011 at 12:23 pm*

But we would have gotten more if we traded him [Grachev] sooner. That is why I think we need to trade Hagelin ASAP.

Hagelin is 23, but looks and plays like he is 18-19. I thought he was going to be a lot more like Stepan or Mike York and look really ready for NHL, but he isn’t and we need to get a draft pick in return for him or it is going to be another wasted asset.

    *bob September 24th, 2011 at 12:59 pm*

best course of action is to start shopping Hagelin. There were rumors last season that Red Wings wanted him.

    *bob September 24th, 2011 at 1:19 pm*

Hagelin totally lacks physical game. You can’t bea 3rd or 4th liner in NHL if you don’t hit. Also a 3rd or 4th liner needs to be stronger on the puck, better along the boards and protect the puck better. I don’t see him as an effective NHLer on a good team. Maybe on a bad one where he is on top 2 lines and on PP.

    *bob September 26th, 2011 at 9:28 pm*

    Hagelin pretty much blows.

    *bob September 26th, 2011 at 9:47 pm*

Del Zotto and Erixon are not looking too great. I have a feeling if Del Zotto doesn’t pick up his game soon, he’ll find himself either traded or in Hartford.

    *bob October 1st, 2011 at 11:54 am*

BTW what did everybody think about Joe Micheletti’s comments last game about Boyle’s flu-like symptoms where he pretty much hinted that he was drunk or had a hangover because of baseball game and couldn’t play?

    *bob October 1st, 2011 at 5:50 pm*

I don’t understand the love affair with Hagelin, he looks much worse than Rico Fata or Enver Lisin. Those 2 were hated by most fans, but their top asset was also speed, but at least they were a lot stronger and could hit hard.

    *bob October 1st, 2011 at 6:13 pm*

And we will likely get nothing for Hagelin if we don’t trade him soon.

    *bob October 1st, 2011 at 8:12 pm*

I haven’t received any credit for being right about Staal’s headaches being not post concussion syndrome.

Lw- if bob was that far off in hockey, think how he is in real life… probably bought a Yugo.

  16. What country church’s Sunday school you attended between folking yourself, with this kind of English syntaxes, professor?
I suspect you live somewhere in no-men-land, probably closer to Chicago, than New York City, known only for endless supply of organic carsillo . Unbearably smelly provincial even in your primitive cursing

  17. This place is so quiet without the phony fans that come on here and ALWAYS are negative about this team. Lots to love about this team. Great defense. 7 goals allowed in 5 games. Timely scoring. Growth from all the youngsters. Del Zotto turning into the offensive defensive they’ve needed forever. 4-17-21. Hagelin’s speed kills. Stepan plays like a grizzled vet already.

Then you have the grinders who play hard every game like Boyle, Dubu, Fedotenko.
The depth of the team is evident (Bickel fit right in. Stralman too)

I love that this team takes one shift, one period, one game at a time.

  18. ZzZz NYR ZzZz© " Don't stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

Wow , Bob is WRONG about Haglen!!! Bob , you were called out bigtime!!!

    WTG LW3h!!!!

Oh yeah Chicago is lame , gibble was right , stop yappin ’bout Chicago on a Rangers web site you moron. WHO CARES ABOUT THE Blackhawks!!???

Olga , next time you tell 4ever to STFU , YOU go look in the mirror and repreat over and over the same thing to yourself.

  19. Not like the GM and his staff put this team together. It was like some computer spits out the teams and then they play? Oh wait, thats not how it happens.

Sather and his staff have done a GREAT job putting one of the best young organizations in the NHL together. Whether people like it or not, and yes it’s annoying he’s doesn’t speak. But you know what, he lets the team’s actions do the talking. Brian Burke does lots of talking, doesn’t exactly lead to wins and I like Burke.

  20. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Avery

He broke into the NHL in the 2001–02 season, playing 36 games with the Red Wings. The Red Wings went on to win the Stanley Cup that season, but Avery did not play in the playoffs nor did he play the required 40 games to get his name engraved on the Cup.

Midway through the 2002–03 season, Avery was traded to the Los Angeles Kings in the trade for defenseman Mathieu Schneider. Avery finished the season with 15 points in 51 games.

Years later, Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said that one reason he unloaded Avery was because he seemed to lack respect for the game.[1]

^ Rosen, Dan; and Adam Kimelman (December 5, 2008). “Holland: “Avery hasn’t matured””. NHL.com.

  21. And I love when Torts talking about adding more youth and he knows he can say that when Krieder is still coming and Miller looks real good so far. Not too mention maybes in Thomas and Jasper Fasth. That’s lot of potential.

  22. Olga Folkyerself on

Sally- How are the Sabres doing? I have great hopes for them, especially how the new owner sounds.

  23. Yes, considering the crap that usually takes place in NY sports and this moronic belief that using youth won’t work, this team has a plan that they haven’t deviated from and for that he deserves the credit.

  24. Sorry. Only 0-for-3 on the PP.

Barely a quality shot thru first 2 periods.
    No sustained offensive attack whatsoever.

    Not good enough.

Listen to Lundquist and Torts when they say this means nothing.
Because it doesn’t mean anything right now.

With this D & goaltending this team should be dominant.

    It is not.

  25. Oh please Rod, give it a rest already. They HAVE THE LEAST AMOUNT OF LOSSES and MOST regulations wins. That’s all that matters. They don’t have to win 10-0 to be considered a “dominant” team. At no point this season have they have 3 games without getting at least a point. That’s pretty damn dominant!

  26. Making the playoffs from 2005-2010 (ok they lost a skills competition shootout) and building what is now one of the best organizations in hockey built to win for many years down the road. Their average age is 27. and the core of the team is even younger than that. That’s what he was doing.

  27. ZzZz NYR ZzZz© " Don't stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

Garg L , aww how cute , thanks!!

Remember Olga , if you keep acting like a jerk , peeps on here don’t tolerate it. You will be picked on and ridaculed . You have to realize that bashing our team ( the GM) and promoting your real love ( Chicago) is rude and selfish . wise up eh .

  28. I thought this was a Rangers fan board but there are more people that criticize this team than have positives to say. Good for guys like Jimbo and Greg L. who are enjoying the winning and not nitpicking nonsense.

  29. I love how someone claims to be a diehard Rangers fan and ROOTS for A. ANY OTHER TEAM and B. ANOTHER ORIGINAL 6 TEAM! And then comments on people that are happy for this team and organization. Go root for your OTHER team!

  30. ZzZz NYR ZzZz© " Don't stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

Yeah Rod , put a sock in it!!

    This team is number one!!!

    #1 , get it ? got it , GOOD!!!

  31. Calm down, Wirth.
You conveniently forget Sather’s first 7-8 years. Need a refresher?

Easily one of the worst executive tenures in NY sports history.
Or just plain sports history if you prefer.

Current team still has major holes. So let’s see how he does here in this next little bit, ok?

Btw, you call your MSG friends yet, tell them that was a blatant slash on Gaborik’s breakaway the other night? Somebody should. Cause they were still calling it ‘crashing into the boards’ days later.

And did you hear the great news? Rosen jr is on his way!
So the propagandists will live on!

  32. Boom Boom Bathgate on

Who cares about the Black Hawks? What, you think the Rangers are the only team in the NHL? And who would they play if they were?

I like Olga’s honesty about who she roots for, and her passion for her team, plus she never runs down Ranger players or the organization.

Nice to have your contribution here, Olga. After the Rangers, the Black Hawks have always been my second favorite team in the NHL. I grew up in the suburbs of Philly, but rooted for the Black Hawks and was thrilled for them when they beat Philly to win it all, especially with Bobby and Stan in attendance on that memorable night. That was a long overdue case of justice being served.

  33. If you think this team is dominant you are completely clueless.
Not trying to piss on your parade guys, enjoy yourselves.

But what happens with personnel in the next 8 weeks is the big game right now,
not a win or (butt ugle) loss on any given night.

We are a playoff team, no questions asked, for the first time in ages.

But can this team make and then advance from the conference finals?
That I think is absolutely possible. But they’ll need some help to do it.
