NEW YORK RANGERS TRANSACTION UPDATE
Tim Erixon Recalled from Connecticut
New York, December 14, 2011 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that defenseman Tim Erixon has been recalled from the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Erixon, 20, has registered one goal and 11 assists for 12 points, along with 10 penalty minutes in 13 games with Connecticut this season. He currently has a three-game assist streak, tallying four assists during the stretch which began with a two-assist effort on Friday vs. Hershey. Erixon leads all Whale defensemen and is tied for sixth on the team in scoring with 12 points, and ranks second on Connecticut overall in average points per game (0.92) and is tied for third in assists (11). He registered seven points in a five-game span (one goal and six assists), beginning with his first career AHL goal on November 12 at St. John’s and culminating with a career-high, three assists on November 23 vs. Portland. Erixon tallied an assist while making his AHL debut on November 2 at Bridgeport.
The Port Chester, New York native began the season on the Rangers opening night roster, and skated in nine games with the Blueshirts before being assigned to Connecticut on October 29. Erixon posted a plus or even rating in six of his nine contests. He made his NHL debut on October 7 against Los Angeles in Stockholm, Sweden, as part of the 2011 Bridgestone NHL Premiere.
Erixon was acquired by the Rangers along with a fifth round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft (Shane McColgan) from Calgary, in exchange for Roman Horak and two second round picks in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft (Markus Granlund, Tyler Wotherspoon) on June 1, 2011. He was originally selected by the Flames in the first round, 23rd overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

If Avery was the one in Hagelin’s situation we would all be saying “that’s a reputation call.” Nothing more. No one would get mad at him. That call was easily the worst call I have ever seen in any sport.

Torts would have said that the Ref’s are calling based on reputation but that Avery has got to be more careful, because of that reputation that, you know, he made for himself.
That Hagelin was called for that crap just highlights WHY the call was absolutely horrendous. He’s like the “control” in an experiment.
NHL should initiate a 7 minute rule. Every player dressed must get a minimum 7 minutes of ice time. That would keep teams from dressing a goon only in their line ups.
Of course, how would torts punish avery with 2 minutes of ice time…oh nevermind.

Avery is certainly not in the ranks of hockey player dregs. He has a little value and could contribute with other teams, if they’d take him. It’s only his baggage that keeps the other teams away.

while Avery is quicker than some, I’m not sure he comes close to the speed that Hagelin brings so I don’t think Avery would have hit the goaltender.
The amount of upside that Hagelin brings is far more than Avery brings.

I am genuinely confused on why so many believe Rupp is going to be such an improvement when he returns. (And you know Torts is going to reinsert him in the lineup as soon as he’s ready.) Rupp has never been an offensive powerhouse. Since Avery is always such a hot topic here, I’ll use him for comparison:

It would appear Rupp is not very offensively skilled and is a much larger desense liability. His best season only saw him earning 19 points (compared to Avery’s career high 48). So he fights. Not very effectively, from what I’ve seen, and certainly no more so than Avery. So what is the up side to his return other than the fact that Torts likes him?
As Cynar wisely pointed out, Avery only seems to be a distraction because the coach makes him one. If Torts just put Avery on the 4th line and consistantly played him his 8-10 minutes and left it at that, there would be no distraction. Torts makes it one when he benches the guy for no “apparent” reason. If there is a legitimate reason, then give it. If not, then play the guy his 4th line minutes and shut up.
As for the “We want Avery” chant…except for a few morons that you will find in any organization, most people know Avery would not have been on the ice the last 10 minutes of that game last night, nor would he have automatically scored the GWG if he had. I believe the chant is more about expressing displeasure with the coach, Sather, or the team’s overall effort (or lack thereof). “Avery” has become like “Disney”. Walt Disney realized his name took on a whole meaning that was separate from the man. Just as last year’s All-Star write-in campaign for Avery was not because people believed Avery to be one of the league’s top players so much as it was meant as a slap in the face to the League.
Playing Avery last night would not have ensured a win. They still could have played and lost the exact same way. However, it is just as possible that playing Avery last night would not have brought it down to 1-0 the last four minutes of the game. I guess we’ll never know.

rumour has it torts benched gabby from the first PP unit because he heard gabby say the word avery in the pre game warmups.
Gabby, in a post game interview said that he never said avery at all, but at on point did say it was going to be A-VERY tight game. Gabby went on to say that torts clearly does not like his accent and on a number of occasions Gabby has heard torts tell others he wished every one spoke as concisely as EC!!

I think the Skinner concussion was announced yesterday. Still wonder how that him being laid out by the Rangers effected him. No doubt that increased monitoring, fear of effects and hooplah have lead to many people being diagnosed this year but this is NOT good for hockey.
Can the media talk about Colt McCoy’s concussion some more? Vick? Plenty of NFL’ers get them too.

November 16, 2011 – 1:57 PM
Verizon announced today that it expects to provide MSG Network channels in high definition by mid-December.
The Federal Communications Commission ruled in September that MSG could not withhold HD feeds of its programming from Verizon and AT&T. MSG sports programs include Buffalo Sabres games, which have been available to Verizon FiOS viewers only in standard definition.
A federal court last week upheld the FCC ruling, which compels MSG to negotiate with Verizon regarding HD feeds. A statement from Verizon today says the HD programming is expected to be available by mid-December.
Sabres viewers who get their TV via the Dish Network are still in the dark when it comes to watching their team. Dish last year dropped MSG from its lineup, along with YES Network and SportsChannel New York, in a dispute over rights fees. All indications are that those channels won’t be coming back to Dish anytime soon.
Come on 3CP, It’s my only scoop here in the past 4 years! :P

OBVIOUSLY those guys have been hurt this year but you must have missed my point. This is what we’re getting for 10.6 million dollars this year and it’s a problem. At least some of that money could have been used in better ways.Wolski was a big question mark for this roster during the off season. His health has been poor since training camp. so for 4 million bucks he played 6 games and went on IR. Someone pointed out before that Prospal has 23 points. Well, he’s played 30 games and he’s signed for 2.5 mill. We parted ways with him because of health concerns. 30 games to Wolski’s 6. I know Wolski was under contract but there were other options.

Why the hell don’t they rectify blatantly awful mistakes they make, starting with this one? It would cut their payroll overhead, too. They don’t mind paying out of profit for this stupidity which impunes the integrity of the game, given all the horrendous calls?
This league also desperately needs to assign three points to a win, so that all games are three point games. I say you go 3-0 when you win in regs, 0-3 when you lose in regs, and 2-1 when you win in OT/SO and 1-2 when you lose in OT/SO. So that you have two points columns = points for and points against. Is that rocket science or just plain too much logic for the suits, upstairs?

Probably one of the worst calls I have ever seen unless the rulebook states “you cannot touch an opposing goaltender under any circumstances”. They should be fair game if they go out the crease and play the puck. Cannot wait to see this on 24/7
NHL teams being discreet about injuries is for a reason. Unless you are a betting man IDK why you think fans have to know the exact nature of the injury. If a player sits out he is obviously hurt and if he’s not the team will discipline him. Us fans don’t need to know exactly what bone is broken in which hand so they can get slashed to threads next game. This is really my only problem with you as a sportswriter.

I remember in ‘94 I accidentally saw Leetch getting his shoulder worked on during the ECF. Had to report it. Rangers went ballistic. Too byfuglien bad, but every reporter was trying to find out what it was, and if I didn’t report it and somebody else did, then I got beat.
