About Author

  1. Oh, BYFUGLEIN! I just realized I will be in DC for the showing on the 28th (watching them play the Caps, ironically) and at home without HBO on the 5th. DVR don’t fail me at all!

  2. Eddie eddie Eddie on

Olga – give up on that drink only at night stuff … Bailey’s in coffee with a bloody Mary chaser is the breakfast of champions.

  3. Eddie eddie Eddie on

Jimbo – we should hook up and watch the flyers game in the city next Friday… My Brutha from anutha will join us.

  4. Eddie eddie Eddie on

Carp – I didnt realize that those media relations gigs were so 24/7 , no pun intended…

Have you ever thought about teaching a class in journalism at any of the 10000 colleges in and around the NYC area? You would love teaching….

  5. Eddie eddie Eddie on

Mama – best place to catch the ranger game in the city other than the garden…. Back in the day it was Charlie o’s but I think that is no longer…

  6. I missed the first ten minutes. gotta catch it on the replay. EDDIE?!?!?!?!? WHERE ARE YOU??!?! I NEED TO KNOW YOU’RE CLOSE BY!!!

  7. Noah-aal-olski-upp-auer, 28 on

The Avery and Gabby reactions to Artie in the lockerroom were absolutely hilarious.

  8. I can see that I’m missing quite a show here!! I doubt that I’d learn any new swear-words, but maybe I’d learn a few new ways to combine them…..

  9. Noah-aal-olski-upp-auer, 28 on

Love that Woywitka lost credit card roulette…while the big contract guys sit there laughing.

  10. My fiance in regards to Cally on the plane with no shirt needing TLC…..”I’ll take care of him”..

  11. Eddie tell Don Carp. He’ll have the crew know as “the eight tiny reindeer” go take care of em.

  12. I’ll come right out and say it. Its gonna suck if Pronger and Giroux aren’t able to play in the Classic. Same goes for Staal and Sauer obviously.

  13. agree with Mama.
    more Rangers
    less Flyers
    maybe somewhere here can
    record everything and make
    a special edited version

  14. that was everything i hoped it was and more (though i would rather less Flyers ha!). the dinner in buffalo as classic “Gaborik, is that your sixth beer?! We have a game tomorrow!” also, Avery’s smirk to Anisimov when he walked into the locker room was great.

  15. really surprised they didn’t show much of the Flys/NYR game, but i guess that’s when they just started filming. Torts HATES HBO haha

  16. lol Carp

Yeah Bryzgalov was bryzgalov funny! Well put!

Our planet is like compared like to universe like its like small…and like

  17. Orr, I hope so.

Someone on twitter made a point that you noticed they focused on the Flyers wins and the Rangers losses. Kinda like last year with the Caps and Pens..

  18. >>>“I was just reloading my weapon”

Was that in reference to the brouhaha just this past week?

  19. Carp- Grandma Cally stole the show. my favorite Torts moment thus far though was listening to him frown upon players getting PT. Basically said he thinks they psych themselves out into thinking their hurt more than they are. Awesomeness.

  20. Noah-aal-olski-upp-auer, 28 on

Um the Flyers hadn’t lost a game. And the Rangers lost two in a row.

Let’s not read too much into that.

  21. Wow! Thanks Mickey – so they were editing the stuff into this episode from just a short time ago. I thought the first episode wouldn’t bring us close to the up-to-date games..

  22. Noah, I know, but it could be foreshadowing, possibly. Then again, they better win tomorrow in STL for me :)

  23. Noah-aal-olski-upp-auer, 28 on

I was just saying I don’t think they “focused” on the Rangers losses and the Flyers wins. That’s just how the games worked out.

I thought it was tremendous…though I did think they’d show more of that Lightning scrum. I did love Dubi (rightfully) flipping out at the penalties called after that though.

  24. Hahaha! Thanks, ORR – if the Bolts heard him say that, they would probably smack him around again!

OK, Mickey – boy, they went right up till the last minute to make the episode timely!

  25. “Tortorella doesn’t walk around the bushes” – Marian Gaborik, who apparently is still learning to speak English correctly haha

  26. K, gang, This was fun, but I gotta put laundry away and attempt to get some sleep. Won’t be around for the game tomorrow night as I will be there @ Scottrade. Going old school and rocking my Leetch away jersey.

Have fun and remember to behave, eh?

  27. So Mickey, be sure to make a scene so we’ll see you on camera, OK!? Smack some Blues fan around or something!! ;-D

  28. No, I won’t be reviewing it … because I didn’t think of it … but if anybody wants to review it in the comments, or email me something in the morning … maybe we can do something with it.

  29. At least they didn’t show Staal getting blasted by his brother. Poor Sauer power got one look and it was of him getting splattered by Dion and the Belmonts.

  30. HBO can’t fit every storyline into the first episode; there was a lot of setup involved in this one being the lead in. We’ll see Sather & Staal, etc.

My sixth sense tells me the best stuff isn’t making it to air.

Torts came off very well & very strong I thought.

  31. I wanted to give my 3 stars for that episode but I need a fourth. So here they are:

    1. Loved the Cally family stuff, especially Grandma – she stole the show for me.
    2. Great Job HBO for sticking with all the AA stuff. No Doubt Avery’s smirk walking into room (looking like “well now you’ve gone and done it) was priceless. The apology stuff worked too. Showed the togetherness of the team.
    3. I love that HBO and NHL and whoever followed the Giroux stuff with the concussion and got as much lockerroom access as they did with it. Shows how much goes into this stuff and he’s not that simple. Plus, it shows that the Coach really has no say and it’s up to doctors and trainers (eliminates the old conspiracy theory that coaches make players play hurt)
    4. Bryzgalov – All I can say is – There have been loads of goofy NHL goalies in the past. You need to be to have a frozen puck shot at you for a living. But, he might be the all-timer.

  32. Ohh and I did notice one other thing. I don’t think Torts goes into the lockerroom after the game to talk to the players, which I think he did say on Behind the Bench one time. That’s a strange one for me.

  33. Orr, I agree, I was REALLY surprised that they didn’t mention Marc Staal at all or show the Rangers in Europe.

  34. whining about flyer injuries. how about mark staal. he probably is better then the 38 yr old pronger. poor philly all the injuries…

bryzgalaov will not last in philly he is a mental case…..

  35. I just had a crazy realization after watching 24/7. Bryzgalof was 100% serious about there being no parks in Winnipeg and that being why he didn’t want to move there. I’m not sure if that is even more hilarous than the previous presumption, or incredible.

  36. Shoot the puck, Barry on

Enjoyed the episode. Cally’s Grandma was definitely the highlight.

Liked seeing our boys bonding over dinner– couldn’t tell exactly who all was there but obviously Hank, Woywhatever, Gabby, Prust, Boyle, Dubi. Cool stuff.

Looking forward to next week– liked that tease about learning more about the “Rangers coach John Tort-or-rella”…
