  1. Got to try and find out if (and where) i’ll be able to view the 24/7 episodes over here. I’m guessing they’ll be on the internet somewhere, seeing as the TV rights in the UK are with some little known subscription channel.

  2. UKRangers>> If (or when) you find out, please let me know. Here they hardly broadcast any games, have links via their website on to GameCenter who have better quality on the broadcasts…. So stupid.

  3. Should be a good game!!! Will be there, hoping to keep my record of witnessed wins intact!!!

  4. Good morning all.

It might have been said over the past few days (and Carp mentioned the Knicks) but I am already tired of the Knicks commercials and I don’t want to have to watch the Rangers on MSG2 since it is not high def and you know MSG loves to move the Rangers….

  5. The Make Believes can score a lot of goals. That is scary.

Six in a row? Is that too much to ask?

  6. Oh – Happy “Repeal Day” everybody. Don’t forget to have some drinks in honor of the fall of prohibition!

  7. Good morning, boneheads!

The part 2 of Derek Boogaard story in NY Times is even better than 1. A must read imo…

  8. ilb – great article and great read – cant wait for part 3.

I now feel total guilt for complaining about how much Slats paid the guy – worth every cent and much more. RIP Boogeyman.

  9. don’t look now, but somethign special is happening with this year’s team…and no disrespect to BoogieMan’s memory, or any of our pugilistically inclined players of the past, but this year’s balanced team is showing the value of not wasting a roster spot on a fighter.

Is Kocur the only recent enforcer who might have cracked the roster with other skills?

  10. *The Make Believes can score a lot of goals. That is scary. *

They also let up a lot. Think of having Biron’s Carolina game be the Rangers goaltending situation every game. That’s basically the Maple Weaps goaltending.

  11. It’s pay back time. The leafs beat the rangers 4-2 at the garden earlier in the season. Time to pay the leafs back. LET’S GO RANGERS!!!

  12. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

I am, I am, I am Avery-man and I can do anything…. If you go a million miles away, I’ll track you down now….. I am, I am, I am Avery-man and I can do anything.

  13. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Manny – interesting sidebar regarding tonight’s game. Should they finish regulation, or ot, or the SO, with more goals than the leaves…. There is a very good chance that they just might potentially win their 6th in a row. But as I like to say…. Never say never.

  14. Ya know eddie I was thinking about something very similar. The Rangers have won 5 games in a row here and it would seem to me that if they can win tonight, by scoring more goals than this other team, they should win 6 in a row. I don’t think tonight’s game counts as 2 games or even 3 games but I may be wrong.

  15. It’s an ORIGINAL SIX matchup.

If you threw in a Staal brothers matchup, I think Joe M would spontaneously combust.

  16. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Manny – interesting point. If this game counted as two, there is a tremendous opportunity to win their 6th and 7th in a row. That is why they play the games. 200% effort would be needed to pull this off.

  17. Eddie – i’m real sorry to have to tell you this but he’s dead. Died Oct ’77.
But there is a 4-CD box-set or a Greatest Hits collection available if you want to reminisce….

  18. Great point eddie. Tonight could be a great way to get 2 wins in one. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Est un avis en dextra extra quan quantum merior.

  19. I’m hoping my reward will be courtesy of Buff posting a useful internet link for us Euro-Ranger-pansies.

  20. congrats, Mama.

Manny and e3, not sure if you covered this, but according to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Rangers have scored more goals than their opponents in each of the last five games. Coincidentally (perhaps not?) they did the same during a seven-game stretch earlier in the season. And in between, they scored fewer goals than their opponents in two consecutive games.

  21. Blogmama. Look up Temple Run, Zombie Highway(both addictive, fun and free) and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit – plus Twitteriffic and Mypad for the usual Social Networking stuff.
    Have fun!

  22. Wow. Great research there, Carp. That’s very interesting. Scoring more goals almost always leads to a win and that’s a good thing I am told.

  23. I heard Bettman was looking into a rule that you could win by scoring less, but having Sidney Crosby on your team, possibly by either a gimmick in which you have a lookalike competition on the jumbotron where each team fields their best Crosby lookalike (not Bing) or by having a new rule created whereby anyone checking a player named Sidney gets penalised and the opposition automatically gets a goal.

  24. Someone needs to have a word with The King. Henrik, don’t tweet about your new mask without first of all postic a twitpic – or is that subject to HBO 24/7 copyright?

  25. I will edit you post UK..

Someone needs to have a word with The King. Henrik, don’t tweet

  26. Wow, I’m impressed mama…I didn’t think you’d be able to turn it on until I show you how to….:-)

For every other math gurus here- it’s not even noon yet and you’ve already lost it….:-)

  27. I know, after days of pretty much straight hockey talk, a good amount of g(j)ibberish today. … must be getting close to Festivus.

  28. Manny, hockey is going to have to take a backseat until 6:30. There are more important things to discuss right now;

Reyes to play in front of 3,000 fans per night for the next 6 seasons

Giants losing to the men in stripes

  29. Barry, I would love nothing more than to talk about Reyes going to Florida for about 2 years and 70M less than I expected. Maybe the warm weather will help his hamstrings not fall apart. I bet Hanley Ramirez is one unhappy duck today!

Giants game was brutal. I wish they got blown out. Everyone will just say the “left too much time on the clock” which is the dumbest critique ever. First off, they scored. That was the hard part. Second they needed to leave time on the clock in case they missed the 2-point conversion. Finally, they should have played another 44 seconds of Defense.

It’s true ilb and vidz. Everyone actually WANTS to be sad!

  30. Hate the Mets but to give that guy a six year deal is insanity. If it took that many years (and dollars) to keep him, good riddance.

  31. When the team is losing this board is flooded with people demanding trades of young, still learning players. Winning streaks bring choking hazards as people are forced to swallow stupid comments.

  32. I am so curious about the 24/7 thing and HBO’s access since Torts is so closed off about “what happens in the locker room is private.” It’s between him and the players.

  33. Reyes didnt deserve more than 5 years. Now he’s going to go to Miami, Ramirez is going to bitch and moan that he now has to move to 3B and fans will still forget that there’s a baseball club in their city. New stadium or not.

And the Giants got fleeced by the refs.

  34. eddie eddie eddie on

carp – your point is valid… seems by scoring more goals than the other team, regardless of who that team is, for the most part, you leave your self in a near excellent chance to get the two points….the exception, obviously, is when the aforementioned game is really 2 games…in which case the multiplier effect is in play…it also means that AVERY could get 40+ minutes of ice time…..

some people see things as they are, i cant see the big E without my glasses, others dream dreams that are dreamily dreamlike….

a stitch in time saves nine…and certainly, manny, to your earlier point…two of my hands in a bush is better than any hands around either of the cocks….bab or hitch

  35. eddie eddie eddie on

ricardo – upon sencond thought and review by toronto off ice officials…are you sure that in the last 5 games, the rangers did score more than the team they were playing?….what i mean is, the 5 game winning streak does not neccessarily they actually outscore the team they were playing… can still win by losing….i.e. ergo, therefore…and thus….

  36. eddie eddie eddie on

hello earthlings… this thing on?… important announcement announcing a trade is about to be announced…..stauehewll for ryan straight up on the rocks

  37. I dont like to make excuses (injuries, officiating) but the refs clearly got the memo before yesterdays game. If was bad.

  38. iWicky (Leeloo Dallas mul-ti-pass) on

    Morning ILB and all!!!

As per the norm, working during game so LGR and LGD!

Any one have a link to the second boogeyman article? TYIA!!

Nba sucks and tebow sucks, I’m done!!

  39. I think Hanley Ramirez might end up in CF, Barry. I really, really thought he would sign a mammoth 8 years @ $168M or something like that.

If I was a GM and he didn’t have absurd demands I would offer him about $13M over 2 or 3 years with a team option because of his history of not running properly and injuring himself repeatedly (for which I blame the Mets for teaching him “how to run properly” or whatever they did).

The Marlins are really trying to buy a WS team again. Heath Bell, Reyes and apparently they are going after Pujols. I guess when you spend the least amount of money in baseball, so little that MLB orders you to spend more, for a number of years you get quite a savings.

Giants made that game great and competitive. Packers missed a key Field Goal that allowed it to be close at the end. Remember, they should have gotten killed by the best team in football.

  40. There was one bad call, Barry. I don’t blame the refs. Eli’s pick to Matthews who just sat in the flat in soft coverage and then grabbed a pick-6, which was very high school, hurt. A lot.

  41. eddie eddie eddie on

manny – the bobbled touchdown, after being reviewed was an adisma call…….also, the mickey mouse pass interference calls were really really adismal….mainly because the giants werent getting the same…

  42. I can come up with at least 3 bad calls/non calls.

But I have to go grocery shopping…………

  43. eddie eddie eddie on

wicky – NBA is the ultimate team game…no other sport has guys putting it out there for each other night after night like NBA players…

    TEE BOW greatest QB EVA

  44. Eddie – the reviewed plays were called properly. I don’t know why people blame other things. The Giants made the game VERY close. That was a victory in itself. In case you guys haven’t noticed, the Packers have won *18* in a row. The Giants love to spoil runs like that and they _almost_ did it last night. It was not to be. The better team won by a narrower margin than was expected.

  45. eddie eddie eddie on

lloyd – while i normally agree with you on nearly everything…the giants were hosed by the refs….

  46. eddie eddie eddie on

bob pooper and carl banks on the giants radio were incredulous over the adismal calls….and they are not normally homers….ala the pens announcers (who are the best in all of sports btw)

  47. Hockey-wise, realignment should be finalized today.

Lloyd – I Admitted it. Reality Check for us Giants fans.

  48. the Giants played a good game and made it competitive, and yeah that one call was bad. that being said, they’re not an elite team. the officials weren’t responsible for Manning throwing that interception, nor did they allow the Giants to drive down the field to end the game.

  49. eddie eddie eddie on

lloyd – not true…rumor has it there was a chip planted in the refs shoes that were putting massive amounts of high frequency radioactive subliminal interference waves and particles….otherwise FABIO never intercepts that pass…

  50. Manny:

I know you did – sorry if it seemed as if I was including you. Just talking to these other dopes who think the refs were the reason they lost to the best team in the sport.

  51. eddie eddie eddie on

you guys are way off…giants are elite…..come super bowl sunday, we will see who wins the cup….

  52. Here is a rule:

It’s OK to lose to the best team in Football who is undefeated and has won 18 in a row including a super bowl.

It’s NOT OK to give up 49+ points to the Saints, lose to VINCE YOUNG and the Eagles or lose an early and emotional game against the REDSKINS.

  53. anyone else besides me hate the new realignment proposal that may be done by today according to mckenzie

top 4 make it in each div then you play inside div like old days.

so pitt wash and phil will be in every year and it will come down to devils and rangers for last spot probably every year until isles and carolina get better

  54. eddie eddie eddie on

manny – those are just details…fact of the matter is the GMEN are the best in the league this year…6-6 proves it…

  55. manny:

agreed on all counts. fortunately for the Giants, they’re in a division so bad that they can lose those games you listed and still potentially win the division. still, given what we’ve seen from them lately, I think their season ends if they lose on Sunday night.

  56. That proposal has to be approved by 2/3 of team owners/GMs, eric. The consensus is that it’s not going to fly. The more plausible scenario is that Detroit will replace the Jets.

  57. Yea it’s true. I predicted the Giants would win 8 games MAX this year. They could potentially outshine me. I thought it would take about 10 wins to make the playoffs (Giants would have to win out) but I am starting to think you could get in with 8 or 9. EVERYONE lost yesterday. And the Giants get 2 against the Cowboos and one at the Redskins and some stupid game against the J-E-T-S? It’s a gift to be .500 at this point and still somehow control your fate.

  58. Manny,

Some guys are just injury prone. Look at Gaborik. Even if he hasn’t had the same groin/hip issues that he had in Minny, he’s certainly picked up a couple of different bumps in NY.

I mean the Mets had Reyes change early on in his career and he became pretty durable for a few seasons (05-08) but sometimes you can’t escape biology. 5 or 6 year deals are certainly a risk for any fragile players, even moreso when they take the player beyond 30. But what’s angering Mets fans right now is that they basically can’t even sit at the same table as the one serious bidder for one of their own cornerstone players. And that says everything that’s been wrong about the franchise for the last 5+ years. As a team that plays in the largest market in the country, with a new stadium and its own TV network that’s inexcusable from an operating perspective. For having a weak farm system because the former GM completely botched the amateur draft and bore very little fruit from his supposed strength of international scouting and the owners played nice with Selig’s office and never went over the slot with their picks. Top to bottom the organization deserves their quarter-filled stadium next season. And shame on Selig for not letting the Wilpons hit rock bottom and essentially get forced to sell the team like the Dodgers and Rangers. I sometimes feel like the Dolans pay the Wilpons to act as they do so there’s always someone underneath them in the Worst NY Team Owner list.

  59. I agree, CT. I am a Yankees fan by birth but I do not, in any way, hate the Mets. I actually root for them unless they are playing the stupid Subway Series (“inter-league” play is the second worst idea in Sports History behind the Shootout). I cannot believe the Mets didn’t trade him to a team as a rental last year and get something for him. It was well known that they had NO chance to get him re-signed.

  60. That new division looks like the old Patrick division plus Carolina.

Depending on how well the Caps eventually do this season, I don’t know if you can count them as an automatic playoff team every year. At some point they will blow that team up if they don’t win. And the Flyers could certainly go either way down the road as the top half of their defense ages even more, let alone how long Bryzgalov lasts before he falls victim to the Philly goaltending curse.

  61. Manny:

Have to think they beat Washington – even my crappy Jets managed to beat Washington. And I have zero faith in the Jets against the Giants, so that means really only having to split the two games against Dallas. Does that win them the division?

  62. Sadly I think it does, Lloyd. Somehow they can win 8 or 9 and still win the Division as long as they Cowboys lose.

  63. And even if the Marlins don’t get Pujols, they’ll still be a very dangerous lineup. Just between Reyes-Hanley, Mike Stanton and Logan Morrison they should be able to score pretty easily. If Josh Johnson stays healthy they have a pretty good rotation. The Phillies offense is already in decline, the Braves are kind of top heavy offensively but their rotation and bullpen are tremendous.

  64. Reyes and Hanley are an injury disaster waiting to happen. Not to mention Logan Morrison spent a bunch of time on the shelf this year for injuries and/or behavior issues. Stanton is a beast. The Sleeper pick, for me, is the Nats. Michael Morse looks like an absolute stud and their team just quietly gets better and better.

  65. ilb, i have a question about Ipad2. Im trying to help Blogmama be able to watch Hulu tv shows on it. Can you watch a Hulu TV show on yours?

  66. This was only the first year that Hanley really had injury issues. Coincidentally I think his big problem came when he injured his shoulder I believe in a game against the Mets. My bigger concern with Hanley is attitude, but as long as they have a manager they played in the big leagues maybe he’ll be ok.

Not sold on the Nats yet. I’m wary of any player having a breakout year in their first fulltime stint after being a career part time player, particularly ones that are 29 when they do it (see Pagan, Angel). Even with Strasburg coming back their pitching is still behind the Phils, Braves and most likely the Nats. They do have the makings for a good team in a few years, especially if Harper turns out to be the real deal, arrogant as that kid is.

  67. Oh, Tiki. Hulu is blocked on the iPad unless you download the “Hulu Plus” application which requires a Hulu Plus account which I think requires a monthly fee.

  68. *Even with Strasburg coming back their pitching is still behind the Phils, Braves and most likely the Nats. *

Should’ve read the Marlins, not the Nats. Pretty impressive if they have one staff that’s behind and ahead of itself at the same time.

  69. How have you been Manny? Are you going to hook up with all of us to watch the Winter Classic in the city?

  70. I wish, Tiki. My wife and I are taking a trip post wedding celebration out to the vineyards of Northfork. I will sadly probably not even see the game. It will be the second game I miss this year!

  71. Trade her Manny? You know the Rangers record since she was born? It’s even better than the Avery effect. Although it might be smart to move her before she learns to talk and negotiates herself a NMC.

  72. Rangers are the second ranked defense in the NHL.

Haha. GREAT point, CT! Everybody thought it was Olivia Munn but it was really CT, JR. Feminine.

  73. So how about that awful idea of 4 conferences? Please hope that doesn’t happen.

Im expecting Detroit to move to the Atlantic with Pittsburgh going to the Southeast to make Ovechkin and Crosby division rivals although they will probably just swap Detroit and Winnipeg because Phoenix is still up in air…

  74. Have a great wedding, Manny. If you eventually wanna see it, Ill leave a copy of the Classic with Blogmama for you.

  75. Thanks, Tiki!!!

I can’t wait for 24/7 to come out on DVD. That is exciting for me (since I don’t pay for HBO)

  76. all of the 24/7 episodes (and every TV show, computer game and movie for that matter) can be downloaded (illegally of course) through torrent websites.

  77. Not sure what you guys thought of Bobby Ryan speculation, but I think hockey is the sport most dependent on chemistry, and especially for defensemen, D men need to know where their partner is going to be all the time. So with the way the team is playing and the likely cost of getting him, Id rather just stick what he have, and maybe add a piece or two at the deadline.

  78. I thought the Bobby Ryan speculation was Larry Brooks getting bored that he couldn’t write any snarky comments about the team.

  79. There was something about Roy Rogers fried chicken…could go for a plate of it for breakfast

  80. My wife has eaten at Boston Market 3 times in her life and has thrown up each and every one of those times. They were also years apart.

  81. I know Prust isn’t a scoring forward but the guy really needs to pick his offense up a bit. Dude is pointless in 11 straight games and has 1 point in his last 18 games.

  82. I don’t see the Rangers trading for any big name players although I’m still holding out for Shea Weber since he would fit perfectly with our team. Dubinsky, Del Zotto, Zuccarello and a 1st rounder is a pretty solid offer…

However, the most likely scenario, I think, is the Rangers bringing back Vinny Prospal…

  83. I sometimes stop in Boston Market just to drop a deuce and destroy their bathroom haha!

Prust isnt here to score, Dubinsky is.

  84. Amen, Tiki. I don’t mind Prust not scoring. I think his goals last year were almost comical because he was producing so much (for him).

As I said, this year’s Pruster is Hagelin(er). He will provide the unexpected offense and spark for the team.

  85. oleo,

Even with the prospect of losing him in FA, Nashville would want a much better haul than that. They’re losing one of the top 5, maybe top 3 D in the league.

  86. Except Hagelin has about triple the offensive skill set Prust has and should actually be scoring.

  87. Liking this concept of scoring more goals than the opponent.

It sounds like Something Renney would talk about in a post game presser following 5 game losing streak in which the Rangers only scored 2 goals. “Well I cant quantify the amount of goals we need to score but relatively speaking I would think that it is going to have to be more than the opponent on a game by game basis. And we’re going to have to be proactive about that.”

  88. And a lot of his goals last year were shorthanded. There was a time several years ago when the Rangers would never get shorthanded goals, and hardly ever get 4th line scoring. It’s nice to know that Boyle, Avery, Prust, guys like that can occasionally pop in a goal.

  89. My fiance just now after I touched her stomach “your hands are cold! your hands are cold your hands are always cold anymore!” I think I froze her retarded lol

  90. Prust might have more goals if he actually shot the puck. He’s passed up shooting a lot of times this season, especially shorthanded. Last season, on odd man rushes, more often than not, he shot the puck, and he scored a few times.

  91. question, which Rangers are expected to produce offensively?

    Richards, Gaborik, Dubinsky, Callahan…who else

  92. lol that’s funny. I was joking last night about both Weber and Prospal. VInny’s got 6 goals 14 assists. He keeps this up and he’s probably going to be a very sought after rental this spring.

As for Weber- pipe dream. You think we’d have to overpay for Bobby Ryan? Nashville would unquestionably want Staal and or Mcdonagh and probably Sauer or Del Zotto just for good measure. Add forward from the roster in there too. And that’s after we gift wrap our first round pick for next summer and put it under their tree.

While the rest of the league is oogling Shea I wouldn’t mind turning around and making an offer for Ryan Suter if they don’t sign him to an extension before the deadline. Prob wouldn’t cost us much less though

  93. Orr:

According to the way Tortorella plays him, Avery has to score at least a goal a game. So, yes, you’re right.

  94. I am just saying that Hagelin is “surprising” and “energetic” and people really like him. So he energizes the team in a different method than Prust but with the same effect.

  95. You let a team go 51 yards in 2 plays, you don’t deserve to win. They should have tried an onside kick after taking the lead, their chances would have been better :(

Probably need to sweep Cowboys + 1 more win. They’d be 9-7, Cowboys at best would be 9-7. Giants win Div head to head.
Their conference record would most likely bite them in a potential wildcard tiebreaker.

    I think

  96. Rangers have won more games without Avery scoring than they have with him scoring.

Torts is doing the right thing.

  97. loneranger December 5th, 2011 at 2:19 pm
Hope Torts gives Aves more than 5:28 tonite. He deserves more time.

Lloyd Braun December 5th, 2011 at 2:24 pm

According to the way Tortorella plays him, Avery has to score at least a goal a game. So, yes, you’re right.

    — I want to address both of your statements and I’m not trying to attack you guys so please hear me out- Yes, he deserves ice time- when he shows he can be relied on to play them.

And no- he isn’t expected to score a goal every game. It just so happens that when he’s at his best it often leads to him being out on the ice for a Rangers goal

Avery is expected to play a certain way. Absolutely. Who isn’t? Depending on where his head is at he is 2 different players- more so than just about any NHL player. When he’s on he can skate better than just about anyone in the league, provide some offense and muck it up down low where he usually winds up drawing penalties. When he is off his game he coughs up the puck and he isn’t strong in any particular area of the ice. That makes him a ticking time bomb and usually leads to bad decisions which hurt the team. Torts only tolerates having the first player I described on the ice. Torts is stubborn but he isn’t stupid. If the right Aves shows up he isn’t going to hurt the team by benching him over a personal vendetta

  98. Orr:

Your argument would be valid if not for the fact that Prust, who as has been stated here, contributes nothing offensively, gets power play time (and 3rd period PP time). I don’t have a problem with keeping 4th liners off the ice late in the game, but the application is inconsistent.

  99. btw- someone mentioned an original 6 conference….Soo Detroit, Boston, Toronto, Chicago, Montreal and NYR and the top 4 qualify for the playoffs every year….no thanks lol

  100. JamesG- showtime!

And if they keep winning there is a good chance Torts simply miscalculated their schedule and they are peaking too soon. FIRE TORTS!

  101. Interesting take from Spector:

“…Habs fans bewailing the trade which shipped McDonagh to the Rangers as part of the return for the overpaid Scott Gomez need to remember that, if that trade wasn’t done, Brian Gionta wouldn’t have signed, as Gomez was the bait to entice Gionta. If Gionta hadn’t signed, neither would Mike Cammalleri, Hal Gill, Travis Moen or Jaroslav Spacek, and in all likelihood, Erik Cole would’ve taken a pass two years later. The Habs up until the Gomez trade had tremendous difficulty attracting quality UFAs. That changed in the summer of 2009, because of the Gomez trade. Besides, the Habs owed the Rangers for that lopsided Alex Kovalev trade in 2004!”

  102. Wicky©Is staal out for the season yet?? on

just musing here, but I wonder if the rangers )if they are playing really well still) make a push for an iggy/sarich deal from the flames closer to the deadline? Didn’t sarich play for the ning when torts was there??

  103. Can we just make a deal Lloyd? We’ll stop trying to convince you that Torts is doing a good job as the coach if you stop trying to convince us that Avery is supposed to be more than a 4th liner on a team that’s done pretty well itself with or without using him in a major role?

  104. lol well yeah cnce the world of UFAs realized they were stupid enough to pay Gomez his salary they knew they could cash in

  105. ok, so the top 6 forwards are the offensive contributors and the other six just have to chew up minutes, right?

  106. CT- if that was Avery it’d be on about 60,000 twitter accounts right now with raging commentary

  107. Amen, ORR. Choosing Prusty in that one. Also choosing him in PK situations and I would rather have him on PP when a team is playing high on the PK and we have to chip and chase. Then I want Prusty down low forechecking. I don’t want Avery on the PP ever.

  108. I honestly don’t think the NY media outside the beat writers really care too much what Avery does off the ice. Yeah he had his Vogue internship and his gay marriage ad, but there are much bigger news stories on a daily basis and even when the Rangers are doing well, they’re at best the 5th most followed team behind the Yankees, Giants, Jets, Mets and Knicks.

  109. NYR_FAN "Step-on the GAS!" on

How aboot Tiger Woods? Won his first tournament in 2 years!

    He’s back in the game!

Let’s Go Rangers!! Six in row! Make it so!

  110. So Llyod you’re saying a coach should be playing his 3rd and 4th lines an equal number of minutes as his top 6 forwards? So if you were a Pens fan you’d argue that Bylsma should play Cooke and Kennedy and Asham more minutes and lessen the TOU of guys like Neal and Staal?

  111. Agreed CT- but when I said Twitter accounts it was a reference towards fans and critics rather than actual NY media. :)

  112. James:

    I already answered that question.

So your basic point is you just want whatever John Tortorella would do in a given situation.

  113. I guess? Yes, Lloyd – I happen to agree with the choices of the winningest American Born Coach.

I think there might be a reason that things are done this way. The reason might be that the team is 12-2 in their last 14 games. NO BIG DEAL.

  114. Also as I said earlier when this team was playing poorly: A Team playing exactly to it’s ability is the neutral category where no one deserves praise or blame. A team over achieving can be due to GOOD COACHING and a team under achieving can be due to BAD COACHING. Thus, Torts gets some credit for this team over achieving on this run, as do the players that are on the ice.

  115. Loyd- It has very little to do with offense. It’s about being responsible and disciplined.

and I’d say Torts knows the story of the Scorpion and the Frog.

  116. Lloyd are you a Sean Avery fan or a Rangers fan? This is an honest question. I mean I understand that everyone will have their favorite player(s), but if given the choice of Sean Avery getting the Hart, Richard, Selke, Lindsay and Lady Bing in the same year but the Rangers not winning the Cup vs seeing Lundqvist traded for Brodeur but still winning, I’d say a lot of people here would still opt for the latter.

  117. Miller > McIlrath, fire the guy that drafted McIlrath and extend the guy that drafted Miller

  118. Manny,

Y u want Original Six division? We would just get out Zuccarellos kicked and never make the playoffs ever again.

  119. It’s true, Latona. I don’t actually want it. It was just a joke because earlier people were saying how much the announcers love to bring up “original 6.”

Sorry. I guess I will give myself a timeout.

  120. “just want whatever John Tortorella would do in a given situation.”

..Like that time he rode Modin, Lecavalier, St. Louis, and Richards to a Stanley Cup victory? Wonder how many TB fans were cursing him for only playing Eric Perin 5 mins a night during that Cup run….

  121. CTBlueshirt:

Are you a Rangers fan or a John Tortorella fan? This is an honest question. I mean I understand that everyone will have their favorite coach(es), but if given the choice of John Tortorella getting the Jack Adams but the Rangers not winning the Cup vs seeing John Tortorella not playing favorites but still winning, I’d say a lot of people here would still opt for the latter.

  122. Lloyd,

I don’t care who coaches the team if they win. I’ve pointed out that with Torts calling the shots they’ve done pretty well so far, but if he was fired tomorrow and they made Avery the coach and they won that’s all I care about. I’m not the one who constantly insists that the coach is misusing a player that has an occasional positive impact on the outcome of the game.

  123. You just wasted your second timeout with the challenge flag. The ruling on the field stands, Manny.

  124. I’m a Rangers fan but I think John Tortorella is a dishonest, thoroughly unlikeable human being. It is possible to support the team and question the choices of the coach, even if the team is winning. I think many choices he makes are based upon playing favorites and are spun as vital strategic decisions. I hope I’m wrong and every move he makes leads the Rangers to a President’s Trophy and a Stanley Cup.

  125. Fair enough Llyod, but it seems that basically every single one of your criticisms about Torts and how he handles the team (personality aside, which is also something I don’t care about seeing that I don’t work with/for him) is solely directed at how much ice time he gives Avery.

And even if Torts has explicitly admitted making a mistake in cutting Avery out of camp, he’s kept him in the lineup every game since his recall even when other chocies were available to him.

  126. Jesus Lloyd what’d Torts sleep with your mother? If the Rangers DON’T win a President’s Trophy or a Stanley Cup it WILL NOT be because he didn’t play Sean Avery more. Trust me on that. They’ve won 15 out of 23 games so far. Micro manage all you want but something somehow for some reason is working. end of story.

  127. CTB- Any thoughts on tonight’s game jersey?

Lloyd – It’s funny how coaches “favorites” tend be those that are trustworthy and dependable.
    Go figure.

  128. CTBlueshirt:

Obviously I’m a fan of Avery so there’s going to be a bias – even so, I don’t think the guy is Mike Bossy. But, I do feel he holds Avery to a standard that he doesn’t hold other players to, particularly players who are supposedly in the bottom line grinder mold. My feeling is that he sends Avery out there as if he’s a scoring forward, and when he doesn’t score, cuts him out of his plans. I don’t agree with Tortorella that anyone on the third line is a better player than Sean Avery, nor do I think a player can be expected to produce when he’s playing 5:20 a night. This stuff about trust or whatever Tortorella claims he’s doing, doesn’t seem believable to me, and that’s what bugs me about him.

  129. Dishonest!? Unlikeable?

Huh? How can that possibly be an opinion of Torts? Even the Ref’s like the guy!

  130. DD, If they’re wearing white then I have to choose between Gaborik and Dubinsky. If they’re wearing heritage (usual jersey vs ORIGINAL SIX!!! MATCHUP) then the choices are Cally and Stepan. If they wear blue then it’s Richards or Del Zotto (I have a Staal jersey, but as a rule I don’t wear it if the player isn’t playing).

Last game, I wore Richards because I wrongly got caught up in the “Richards returning to Tampa for THE FIRST TIME as a Ranger and ignoring his previous trips with Dallas. And they promptly gave up a goal. I switched to Gaborik between periods, et voila. They won.

  131. LMAO @ you, guys! You will learn one day, I hope….Until then you’ll keep coming here with unsettled feeling….

  132. At what point does Rhode Island Ranger jump in? Seems like he only posts during this particular topic.

I’ve lost all confidence in Dublowsky. At this point, I expect as much offense from him as I do from Avery. Sad, but true!

  133. CT – I have actually shelved my Rangers hats since the win streak began. I was taking credit for it. I guess I will “take my hat off” to you.

  134. Ilb – I see our friend has rejoined before he supposedly heads to the Garden tonight with his little 16 jersey on and a picture of his hockey card in his wallet.

  135. Maybe if Little CT learned to pick up after herself I could stumble around my house, blinded by a tangled up jersey with impunity.

  136. Now as for everyone else, I think this is a good test tonight for the Rangers. Unlike the last two opponents, this team is very offensive minded and we will have to keep up with them tonight. This could be a 5-3, 6-4 kinda night.

  137. HWirth, I’m pretty confident if they can outduel a team with Crosby and Malkin, and shutout the #1 scoring team at the time (Flyers), they have a good shot vs the Loafs.

As a team they’re in a much better position this game than when they first played.

  138. By high Scoring I mean like 7-6 or 6-5 or something like that. Both teams could score a bunch.

  139. Yup, HW…He did exactly what he wanted to. Came in, brought up an empty subject, riled up a few people….That what makes him happy, I guess. Oh, well….

  140. Carp had his share of headaches with this guy too. Bet you he spent more on Motrin than he got paid for this blog….

  141. I wonder if there is a place to get masters in gibberish. Some people here could easily be grandfathered for diploma. Heck, some can teach there! :-)

  142. Is “Prust gets PP time when he doesn’t actually get PP time” one of those Prustisms, or just another woefully inaccurate claim from somebody obsessed with Avery’s TOI?

  143. Mama, if you’re out there driving on your iPad, no calendar yet … unless they gave them out at a game I missed. I don’t think so.

  144. eddie eddie eddie on

according to Elias…and i quote “THE PRUST leads all rangers in PP time”

    well, that settles that

  145. eddie eddie eddie on

if no one is getting more PP time than Prust, then by definition the prust is leading in PP time….

in other words, if 5 is less than 7, and 9 is less than 65, then 34 = 17 times two

  146. eddie eddie eddie on

you have entered…THE PRUST ZONE….rod seiling, another ranger great that wore #16

  147. Thanks Carp! I got to see the Oshawa Generals beat the Pete’s 9-1, which was fun. Also, did you know you can order something called a “Bacon Plate” at Canadian diners? I was definitely born in the wrong country.

  148. eddie eddie eddie on

AVERY is better than Mike Bossy…

according to Elias Sports bureau S. Avery is beter than M. Bossy….. and I quote “Sean Avery is much better than Mike Bossy ever was”…well, that settles that

  149. eddie eddie eddie on

according to kevin bacon’s 6 degrees of separation, Sean Avery can be linked to every ranger victory over the lat 25 years

  150. ZzZz NYR ZzZz© " Don't stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

    Yo CARP!! im back!!!!

I Never missed a game but had no internet access so I couldn’t make ” GO TIME ” BOOOOOOOO!!! Dubinsky is really having a stale year btw.

  153. Avery-man gets primary, secondary and tertiary assists on all 6 goals and we’re all shiny happy people

  154. eddie eddie eddie on

my brutha – wigger toods gets plenty of that a birdie in hand is worth 2 in the bush

  155. I think, since there is no real college to teach gibberish, we should open one. Eddie3 for Dean and Provost. Every regular should chair a Department. We’ll hire Avery, he can run our sport gibberish department…

  156. eddie eddie eddie on

by torts giving prust more PP time than avery indicates to me that he really hates avery

  157. eddie eddie eddie on

manny – by playing avery on the PP (prnounced pee-pee huhuhuuh uhuuhuhuu huhuuhu) ..hmmm i forgot what i was going to say….

  158. Hey ORR: Check out this trade in my Yahoo! league:

I gave up: OvechCannot and S. Weiss

I got: Louii Eriksson, Pavel Datsyuk and Jason Pominville

  159. Oh also….. It seems that OvechCannot and Brucey B were not each other’s problems since they both are still losing.

  160. eddie eddie eddie on

Ilb – did you see that Josef Stalin’s daughter died last week?….i bet she had issues…poor thing….

  161. eddie eddie eddie on

ilb – yes, she went back a couple times too…sounded like an interesting person….

  162. Went into the city yesterday with some friends, parked at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Totally felt like the Seinfeld gang wandering around that hell hole trying to find the cars. If anyone would care for the narrative of how horrific it was, I’ll gladly tell.

  164. ORR – I picked up WellWood because Mike Richards went on IR and I just needed someone decent to fill a spot and he had the best “Avg. PPG” available.

  165. eddie eddie eddie on

anyone watching NHL channel?…some guy just called in …and his game haze was wayyyyy on

  166. What the heck!? I can’t trust you guys to keep the flame burning when I’m not here!? How did you let the score get to 3-0!? WTB!?
