  1. The NYR will get Bobby Ryan, they will IMMEDIATELY be considered Cup favorites, and then self-destruct under that pressure.

…and we will never know how great Krieder would have been.

  2. great minds.., cw!!

Given the coaching change, i’d presume Boudreau will want some time to assess his roster before deciding on if/when to trade Ryan.

  3. No, they don’t. Highly doubtful. It never made much sense anyway. Crazier things happened before, but the routine is to fire coach first rather than trade away one of your young star players. I always felt the rumor was just to light up a fire under the team. Not surprised BB was hired fast either. Now, in Carlyle, someone else will get a good coach.

  4. Wow, the coaching carousel this year is crazy! BB wasn’t even unemployed for an entire week… and they say the job market is bad?

  5. So Mike Babcock is now has the longest tenure (post Cup) with the same team…going into his 4th year. Nice to know how much rope a Cup win will get you these days.

  6. iDoodie machetto on

Canning Carlyle tells me nobody was willing to pony up to their price for Ryan. He is staying put.

  7. And part time Bond villain Guy Boucher, who only started in Tampa last year, is the longest tenured coach in the SE division. 2nd longest are the coaches that started the year in Florida and Winnipeg.

  8. Can’t remember how long Trotz has been in NSH, but he’s never made it out of the 2nd round and won only one playoff round ever which was last year.

  9. So has Zach Parise’s so-so season in NJ been overlooked because a bigger star like Ovechkin has seen his star fade faster? On average he’s on the ice for more goals against than goals for (5v5). And assuming he plays a full season his points per game would be his lowest since his rookie year.

  10. incarceratedbob on twitter reckons Slats had a possible deal in place yesterday, but Slats didnt want to give up that much, especially Dubi:

    MDZ/Dubi/AA/#1pick for Ryan/unnamed prospect

If its true, fair play to Slats either way that would be at least 1 player too many.
If you said AA/Valentenko/#1 then i’d do it.

  11. Amazing how many deals fall apart _just_ before incarceratedbob gets the chance to break them…

Someone asked whether anyone had coached two NHL teams in the same season. Must’ve happened several times (happens all the time in Eurosoccerpansyligas). Ken Hitchcock for one got fired by Philly and hired by Columbus in the same season.

  12. re: Parise – his struggles are overshadowed by those of Fatso(only 5w and .890 sv%) and Kovalchoke(only 5 Goals, -8)

  13. Ranger results so far:

Last season through November: 26 games played – 14 wins, 11 losses, 1 reg. tie = 29 points

This season through November: 21 games played – 13 wins, 5 losses, 3 reg. ties = 29 points

A nice improvement, particularly in fewer losses.

    So far, so good. LGR!

  14. Will anybody from this group be at the game tonight? I’ll be there with all my Rangers adornments on.

I hope they don’t fall flat after a couple of good wins against good teams.

  15. It’s a good point, CT. Parise has not been stellar this year, sadly for him it’s a contract year.

  16. I almost never do this but……..this time I must point out that I said Bruce would have a job by the end of the week. I was wrong about the Conf. though. Thought he might spend a lot more time in the Garden.

    *************************

    *Manny* November 28th, 2011 at 3:18 pm

_Bruce will be employed by the week’s end. He will be back in the Garden at some point for some more chanting._

  17. No, no, no, the GRATE one is the cause for all this. Avery mentioned Paulina in a tweet last week and hell broke lose.

  18. Here is what Gretzky said to his daughter. This is a transcript…

“Hey Paulina. It’s your dad. You know, The Great One. I accidentally got a touch indecent to your pics on that tweeter doohickey before realizing it was you. Anyone ever tell you that you look a lot like your mother when she was young? Anyways…Time to shut that Twitter thing down.”

  19. I still don’t think MDZ would have been a piece the Ducks were interested in, not with Fowler and Visnovsky on their team.

  20. This morning I saw Jereme Roenick and Mike Keenan on versus hockey show and they were asked what should the ducks do and Roenick argued with Keenan that they should trade ryan for a goal tender and Keenan was adamant about not trading ryan and that they should replace the coach. Hats off to Keenan since he was right, they changed the coach.

  21. UKRanger – I think the deal talks have dwindled, but the player exchange you listed simply would never happen. First, because that deal would have Anaheim actually taking several million in salary. Second, because they already have a defensive retard in Fowler. No need to get Tweedldumb and Tweedledumber together under the same roof, much less the same bench. And finally, because that punches three holes into the Rangers’ lineup and only fills one of them. Keep in mind, there are already two holes on defense called Woywitka and Eminger. As adequate as those guys have been, they’re only skating about 10 minutes a game, which is going to quickly become a liability as the season progresses.

  22. Concern here about the possibility of a Ranger let down, given the opposition and the past 3 victories.

I share that concern but will say this: These are games elite teams routinely win, regardless of how they fared in the past few preceeding games….

  23. re: re: Parise

Kovalchuk and Brodeur aren’t that big of a surprise to me. Kovalchuk has always been a player that gives up as much as he produces at even strength. That signing was so out of character for the Devils on a number of levels, the mismatch of his playing style vs the Devils traditional brand of responsible two way hockey was just one of them.

Brodeur’s decline was a long time coming. Given his age and the steady decline of the quality of defenseman in front of him, it was only a matter of time. He already had a subpar save percentage last year, anything below 91% these days usually puts you in the lower half of the league amongst starters.

But Parise was their golden child. Maybe it’s that he’s still coming back from his knee injury, maybe it’s the absence of a bona fide center. I don’t doubt that he’ll most likley have a better season than he’s currently on pace for, but it’s starting to look like he also might not have one that will drive his price tag up by at least $5M-$10M.

  24. phil – i’m not saying it would happen, just something i saw on twitter from incarceratedbob (who is basically Eklund, with a marginally better hit rate).

I cant see them wanting MDZ either, although i’m sure we would just call up Erixon or use Stralman/Woywhatever/Eminger more and hope they can survive till Staal is fit again.

I dont think we need to be making big changes right now though, as much as Ryan would be a great addition, you have to also think about current team chemistry and to acquire him we would have to give up 2 current young players and a #1 pick.

  25. a packae of dubi and mdz and some picks i would do in a heartbeat but i dont see anaheim doing anything now since fat boudreauuuuuuuuuuu is on board now

  26. ^”This was an extremely difficult decision,” Murray said in a statement. “Randy is a terrific head coach, and did a tremendous job for us for six-plus seasons.^

^”At this time, we simply felt a new voice was needed. Bruce is a proven winner with a great track record, and we are optimistic we can turn this season around under his leadership.”^

Was there a season in 04-05 that I don’t know aboot where Boudreau won the Cup?

  27. they just missed off the words “proven regular season winner” and changed it to “proven winner”.

What the Ducks have really lacked in the last few years is a real leader in defense. They never replaced Nieds or Pronger. I think they hoped Beauchemin or Visnovsky would be that man..

  28. You folks really amaze me. You know everything about everybody and all their in laws, How do you manage to handle such a colossal amount of information and know when to dispense it? I’m surprised that I get room to slip in a mot or two now and then, never mind about making sense.

  29. Only 3 jobs i’m interested in: Chief Test Driver at Lamborghini or Chief Taster at Cadburys or Masseuse for Angelina Jolie

  30. Actually, ORR a friend of mine worked as a “changer” during fashion week once. He spent all of his time holding up clothes for runway models as they did quick changes and buttoning them into their pants and stuff. I said, “Wow that is a dream job.” He let me know that it was so much worse than it sounds. He said the models were all stuck up and their parents were usually in the room so while he was holding up clothes for a scantily clad model her father was staring at him.

I think UKRanger has the better job Massaging Jolie.

  31. I also forgot to mention guys: it’s world *AIDs* day so don’t get AIDs or give it to anyone and try to think of a cure or perhaps at least think of all the millions and millions of people and children suffering from this incurable and debilitating disease. (You like how that went from snarky to serious?)

  32. Noah-aal-olski-upp, 28 on

Manny, did you mean the Olive Garden in your original post? If so, it still works, no matter what conference he ended up in.

  33. Ha! Good one, Noah. You topped NYR and Latona’s jibes at me which were taken that day.

    Can you hear us?

  34. Noah-aal-olski-upp, 28 on

All kidding aside, I think hiring Boudreau is a shrewd move by Anaheim. Their big guns are mostly North American guys and it seemed, at least in his stint with Washington, that the North American players responded to Boudreau moreso than the Euro(pansies).

  35. Doodie Machetto on

Orr, Boudreau has a great regular season record. That’s all the Ducks care about. They need a playoff gate to help offset the cost of canning Carlyle just after he signed a 3 year extension.

  36. It is interesting that they decided to pay TWO coaches at once. I thought the extension might prohibit the firing but as usual I was wrong.

  37. All kidding aside, I think hiring Boudreau is a shrewd move by Anaheim. Their big guns are mostly North American guys and it seemed, at least in his stint with Washington, that the North American players responded to Boudreau moreso than the Euro(pansies).

    ***

Wonder how the elder statesman Selanne and Swiss goalie Hiller are going to get along with BB.

  38. Doodie, I have insider… what would you like to know?

The article basically says that he isn’t shopping ryan but he is listening to offers from teams.

Ryan’s agent said that the GM told him Ryan’s name wasn’t the only one being asked about.

They conclude the article saying Ryan will probably remain with Anaheim.

  39. How about this proposal? Salaries match closely but probably the Ducks would want better prospects like Kreider especially with Beauchemin involved. I guess Sather should just stand pat in that case.

RYAN (5 MIL YR) + BEAUCHEMIN (3.8 MIL YR)

    for

    DUBI (4.2 MIL YR) + ZUCC + ERIXON + WOLSKI (3.8 MIL YR) + 1ST RD’ERS IN 2012 AND 2013

They might take back Wolski because he’s a UFA after this year and gone.

  40. NYR_FAN "Step-on the GAS!" on

IMO, it’s a hell of a lot easier to shake up a team by firing a coach than it is to try to upgrade your team by moving one of your star players…

I think the remote possibility of Ryan getting traded is now even more unlikely.

Dreger said last night that to get Ryan, it would take a star player + more (prospects and a d-man). They aren’t giving up on Ryan. They would need a very good return.

  41. Biron Starting Tonight (another thing I called – just to brag)

Knowing what we know now about how Girardi and McBust can handle top pairing I still don’t know if I would trade Staawhl. He’s really he anchor of our Defense and I think we can’t get him back soon enough to lighten the tremendous load being place on Girardi’s shoulders.

However, Bobby Ryan is *24* and he’s a superstar in the making. He’s worth a lot of good pieces of your organization. Especially since he has a totally reasonable contract.

  42. Hi Guys, i Know this is out of Rangers stuff but i am working on a schedule for my doctor who is in Manhattan between Jan. 2-12 trying to convince her to go to the Game on january 5th vs Florida :)

Do you Guys Know about a Place called espnzone at Times Square a very Big sportsbar but i heard its closed now.. Is there anything similar in this Area ?
And do you have good advices for Italian Restaurant at Mulberry Street in Little Italy and Chinese Food in chinatown ?
    What about nobu Restaurants ?

  43. Doodie Machetto on

I’ll leave other things for others, but for the Chinese food, you want to go to Wo Hop. It’s in a basement. there is a ground level store also called wo Hop right above it, but it is not affiliated with the basement store and it is nowhere near as good.

  44. Maybe we forget about Ryan and place Carp on Richards’ wing. His unparalleled hockey sense and knowledge will make up for his tripod-like quickness.

  45. That’s the over/under on shots by Hagelin tonight?

I might suggest 6 SOG and I might take the Over

  46. adios to Andre Deveaux…the right move, I guess, but I’d still rather see Christensen off this roster.

someone actually proposed a Bobby Ryan trade involving Wolski…you guys are aware the other GMs aren’t lifelong Rangers fans, right?

  47. Thanks Tony i understand your joke but thats Not really helpful. I Want to make a good job As an Advisor :)

  48. in typical ranger fashion tonight has let down written all over it however biron starting tonight is the right move. hank played 4 games in 7 days now gets rest from wed-sat night.

4-1 canes who are desperate beyond belief

    go rangers

  49. Wicky©"suspend the hittee..LW compliant version" on

    is biron starting tonight?

I think you are playing grabby, not me

  51. So I’m emailing with a friend who said he saw an article about 24/7 and it had a picture of Torts on the behind Betts, Korpedo and Orr. Which had to have been taken during his first year as coach, 3 seasons ago. Then we started talking about that team (IMO by far the least likeable of the post-lockout Rangers teams) and how so few guys on that team are still with the Rangers. Then it dawned on me how many players from that team aren’t even in the NHL anymore. So far I’ve got:

    Drury
    Redden
    Zherdev
    Naslund
    Mara (no team this year)
Betts (tecnically no team this year)
    Dawes
    Prucha
    Voros
    Sjostrom
    Kalinin
    Valiquette
    Reitz
    Rissmiller
    Fritsche

I mean holy jeebus was that a bad team. How did they even make the playoffs?

  52. You mean bad coaching from the other team bull dog? That’s about the only way I could see a team losing to a team with those guys on it.

LW, that’s the list of players no longer playing in the NHL. Although I suppose you could throw Gomez on that list in spirt.

  53. Although I do remember going to the season opening party at the Bohemian Beer Garden in Astoria and they did the play the Melrose coached Lightning that opening weekend. So maybe you’re on to something about bad coaching.

  54. Taking my son to his first Rangers game tonight. Not like when my father took me to my first Rangers game at MSG, but it will have to do. We are amped. Should be a good game.

  55. I wonder how much of a distraction it was to the players to hear the whole story about Ryan trade, and their names involved in it.

You can trade injured players, CTB. Including the ones on LTIR. You can’t waive them.

  56. Does the other team have to acknowledge the player is injured and consent to it? Because the original trade between LA and EDM for Smyth was flagged because of an injured playing from EDM.

  57. It doesn’t prohibit the trade, CTB. Theodore, just as one example, was traded to Colorado in 2006 while he was on IR.

  58. *Emergency Update* The guy that replaced my co-worker who ate the amazing lunches just came back with a shopping bag from McDonalds. More on this breaking story as it develops.

  59. Ah, I see LW. Yes, No Gomez has been replaced on the Rangers in the form of Gaborik, McDonagh and Prust.

  60. Did you guys hear the rumor that Prust’s fight to open the Phlyers game was STAGED for 24/7? That cannot be true, right?

  61. Mister Delaware on

“Did you guys hear the rumor that Prust’s fight to open the Phlyers game was STAGED for 24/7? That cannot be true, right?”

My first reaction to the Shelley-Dubinsky thing was that it was two ex-teammates just messing around for the media.

  62. ORR,

Not sure if it was mentioned earlier or a link posted…but the NYR Facebook page has a set of 16 pics of different celebs etc wearing the winter classic jersey. Pic #2 is Kate Upton. Only good thing about it really is her hair looks like she just took a role in the hay and she’s wearing a rangers jersey.

Has anybody proposed a Willie Mitchell for bobby Ryan trade yet? Wait…what…Willie Mitchell isn’t a ranger yet?

  63. That would be pretty sad if true….

Not good for the whole “violence in the game” stuff. If fighting is outlawed and the pansification continues we might have to all switch to watching women’s field hockey or something

  64. AGross has a stawl interview up on his page for those interested.

Basics are he’s headache free but still has bad days. Hoping to play this season, not holding grudge against Eric.

  65. Buff, I absolutely *love* Wo Hop – but if your doc isn’t into novelty, she might not appreciate the place. It’s down in a basement, and it is a “dive” type of a place – certainly not visually or aesthetically elegant or refined. Think “cafeteria” that serves some very good Chinese-*American* food. No, they’re not known for authentic Chinese cuisine, but old-fashioned Chinese-American fare.

  66. I have that scene from A Christmas Story in my head with the duck on the table now…LOL. Fa Rah Rah Rah Rah Rah Rah Rah Rah!

  67. I only say this, Buff, because I don’t want you to be embarrassed by your recommendation. As I said, I love the place, but it may not be for everybody.

  68. >>>I have that scene from A Christmas Story in my head with the duck on the table now…LOL. Fa Rah Rah Rah Rah Rah Rah Rah Rah!

    Beautiful!!

  69. >>Basics are he’s headache free but still has bad days.

He’s nowhere near ready. Shut him down for the season.

  70. Thanks Jimbo ! I will recommend it to her , no Manny but its a Hidden agenda because i will talk to her afterwards using those advices for myself in March, when they have those Huge homestand

  71. Mister Delaware on

“He’s nowhere near ready. Shut him down for the season.”

I’m closer to this opinion than not. Bonus of this huge streak is that Staal won’t feel any add’l pressure to rush back.

  72. Manny i Hope you don’t mean it sarcasticallY, i like her but Not more, those Thinks are for both of us :). She is Not my Type !

  73. Who did Rinaldo take out in the Rangers preseason game at MSG? Was it Sauer? Or someone else?

In any case, I think Prust was getting back at Rinaldo for that.

  74. Nightclubs!? Who is this little lady? What kind of medicine is this!?

Actually sounds like a girl I once dated…

  75. Tonight is a tricky one. Carolina has a new coach and as we know Ward loves to try to steal these games from us. Especially in Carolina. I don’t think the Ryan rumors really went beyond designated internet sites aside from the Post but hey- what Rangers care about what Brooks has to say?

Should be a good one. even without Ryan :P

  76. @RealKyper@ #Ducks GM Bob Murray has assured Bobby Ryan he is off #NHL trading market today. Also told Ryan’s desire to be moved is no longer an issue.

    *******************************

Well that was fun while it lasted.

  77. Guess we’ll have to go and start some new rumors. Iginla? Semin? Hemsky? Or just focus on the actual team that is playing very well.

#Ducks GM Bob Murray has assured Bobby Ryan he is off #NHL trading market today. Also told Ryan’s desire to be moved is no longer an issue.

  79. Had a busy day so I’m first catching up on the news. Nice to see Staal out skating. At least it’s a first step. Still feels like he probably won’t be back until at least after the All-Star Break at best.

  80. >>>Also told Ryan’s desire to be moved is no longer an issue.

Hmmm……..maybe there were issues between Carlyle and Ryan..?

  81. MDZ was probably never going to be part of the package. The Ducks already have guys like him.

  82. Yes Carp you have to suspend him for the remainder of the Day here at the Blog for those remarks :)

  83. Go ahead and suspend me! I own two restaurants and date an endless line of models and actresses. It would be my pleasure!

  84. Manny! Now you’re being insolent as well as boorish!!! All you need to do now is to impugn the reputation of a Canadian actress-goddess, and you’re gonna be done in this league!! ;-P

  85. Manny, do you have a “no-move” contract? Proctologists notwithstanding…….. ;-D

  86. If dearly departed bob (not bob the builder) had his way the 2nd round would have been exclusively the Rangers round.

  87. He may have been on to something, the Rangers have done better in the 2nd round than the 1st round in some years. 2004, 2006 and 2008.

  88. I am not the ASS-MAN but I have his license plate. I do not have a NMC but I am having my agent negotiate one. My Agent is Sally.

“Guess we’ll have to go and start some new rumors. Iginla? Semin? Hemsky? Or just focus on the actual team that is playing very well.”

I know you’re being silly there, but the guys you listed sort of underline why Ryan had me so worked up. Great player now, great in the future. Those guys all have atleast one major negative and I wouldn’t really be interested in any at their assumed market.

  90. I’ve never seen TGO’s daughter, but judging by the ongoing comments here, she must be something!

Is it right to lust after the progeny of a hockey deity? ;-)

  91. Amen, Tony.

I own many things Buff. Like the rights to your doctor!

Alright, I don’t. And I wish you nothing but the best of luck!

  92. Random thought- Wayne Gretzky would have gone his entire life without once having his name dragged through the dirt if he had just stayed single….Food for thought ay?

  93. >>>Jimbo GOOGLE HER immediately.

    Hmm….yes, SIR!!

Quite the healthy-looking young lass – she does look like her mom at a younger age…..

  94. James, I don’t see how this tarnishes TGO’s image any – he has an adult daughter who chose to show off some of her “assets”…..it’s not like she’s a criminal or a porno actress or anything like that, unless I’m missing something here…?

  95. Tony, I said it’s *not* like she’s a porno actress…..that would be much more embarrassing to TGO…..

  96. Amen Jimbo. She didn’t do anything wrong. In fact, she showed that The Great Ones genes can produce Great Ones. (See what I did there?) And I don’t think she’s doing it in a lascivious fashion I think she actually wants to model and act.

The biggest problem I have is that she has a belly button ring. Not a fan.

  97. >>>I am still interested in more adresses in Manhattan ….ITALIAN FOOD ?

I’ve had some nice meals at Da Nico on Mulberry Street.

  98. Jimbo my point is simple- There’s never been negative publicity linked to the Gretzky name outside of hockey aside from stuff his wife and now his daughter have done. Maybe people who get their jollies from seeing her pics don’t see it as a big deal, but for a guy who’s built a legacy and always done the right thing I think it’s a slap in the face. And what’s worse is that she had to know full well what the repercussions would be in the media when she put those pictures up. Not saying she isnt hot or whatever but you can’t just do those things when you know there will be controversy that effects more than just you.

  99. Best Italian in the City:

    1.) Marea
    2.) Del Posto
    3.) Babbo
    4.) Il Mulino
    5.) Scalini Fedeli
    6.) Scalinatella

  100. Right, Manny – the pictures I saw were playful and fun, not slutty or lascivious ones. Granted, I may not have seen every image she’s posed in, but those Twitter pics are just cute, not outrageous.

  101. Wasn’t saying it’s tarnished his image- just that it isn’t positive for his image or his legacy

  102. Well she’s over 18 so Gretzky just has to live with it. He, as a parent, should have equipped her with the knowledge to make decisions on her own. She made that decision on her own and as an adult, it really has nothing to do with him.

  103. Manny has trotted out some heavy hitters there, Buff – better bring the ‘scarola with you if you go to any of those fine establishments!

  104. iWicky (Leeloo Dallas mul-ti-pass) on

    Manny
You are going to counselling immediately and suspended indefinitely!

Shut Staal down for the season!!

    LGR ang LGD!

  105. It’s true Jimbo. Those are some pricy joints. Nothing ever beats Babbo and it’s really not _that_ bad. My wife and I have had meals there for around $100 for 2 people and it’s worth every single penny. I swear.

Best bet is to head out to Brooklyn (Park Slope) and eat at AL DI LA.

  106. Oh another great Italian place is Vino en Vino which is on 4th and B. It’s not expensive at all and has a nice “wine cave” atmosphere and a killer wine list. That should help you get her defenses down, Buff.

    http://vinovino.net/

  107. *Buff* December 1st, 2011 at 4:48 pm

I am still interested in more addresses in Manhattan ….ITALIAN FOOD ?

    *****************************

You asked, I delivered. And will continue to deliver!

  108. I understand your point, James – and all I can say is that I don’t think any less of Gretzky or his accomplishments during or after his hockey career based on anything I’ve seen.

Should Paulina have been a bit more circumspect about posing for sexy photos? Maybe – but as Manny said, she’s over 21, and it really has little to do with her dad at this point.

Wayne’s an upstanding citizen with a great reputation, which I think will remain intact regardless of these pictures.

  109. lol at you, guys! Dammit, looks like I won’t join you until the second period, things got busy at work. Make sure they come out swinging, will ya?
