Will update with more later.
The NHL suspended Andre Deveaux for three games for his elbow to the head of Florida’s Tomas Fleischmann Wednesday in Sunrise.
That sounds about right. The Rangers were anticipating the suspension, so either Carl Hagelin or John Mitchell—both called up Thursday—will play in Deveaux’s spot this afternoon in D.C. Maybe both will play.

Here’s Brendan Shanahan’s video explanation of the disciplinary action.

And here is the NHL’s announcement:
RANGERS’ DEVEAUX SUSPENDED FOR THREE GAMES
NEW YORK (November 25, 2011)—New York Rangers forward Andre
Deveaux has been suspended, without pay, for three games for delivering an
illegal check to the head of Florida forward Tomas Fleischmann during NHL
Game #307 Wednesday night in Sunrise, Fla., the National Hockey League’s
Department of Player Safety announced today.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and
based on his average annual salary, Deveaux will forfeit $8,513.52. The
money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
At 10:59 of the second period, Deveaux delivered a blow with
his elbow to Fleischmann’s head. Fleischmann was injured on the play and
taken to the lockerroom but returned later in the period. Officials
assessed a match penalty to Deveaux under Rule 48.5 for an illegal check to
the head that caused injury.
Deveaux will miss games this afternoon at Washington, Nov. 26
vs. Philadelphia and Nov. 29 vs. Pittsburgh. He will be eligible to return
Dec. 1 at Carolina.

First. Carped. Ha.
My first post in days and I was Carped!
THE ISLANDERS HAVE ARRIVED!!!!! PLAYOFFS HERE WE COME!!!
I hope they put Okposo on waivers. Would love to get him for nothing.
I’m actually surprised by this decision. Three is fair, but I figured with him being a 4th liner borderline NHLer type they might use him a guinea pig and throw the book at him with 6 games to sooth the panzies in the media who think everyone player who throws a hit should be suspended for season because a player Might one Day die on the ice.
Isles lost Comeau to the Flames for nothing, so I doubt they’d risk Okposo. I’m sure he has some trade value.
McDonut looked lost against OvechCANT when he had to fill in for Stahl last season. Hopefully he’s up to the task now!
LOL On Comeau. He went from one diaster of a team in the Isles to another miserable organization in the Flames. Maybe Brent Sutter will teach him to smile since Sutter brings such joy to that lockerroom.
thought this portion was worth a repost
So I meant to bring this up the other day, but I really like the “grit” the bruins play with. I mean, look at the malicious intent they show up with on every scrum (mcquaid for example on the link below). It doesn’t matter what position they are a top 6 forward or bottom pair d man. I get so tired of a bit of a scrum start and seeing VV2 just yap a bit or another ranger sashay in and give a little shoulder to shoulder bump and that is it. I understand that boston buffalo game had some energy to it, but the rangers seem to lack malicious intent at this point and that really sucks!!

later aasens and LGR and LGD!!
Good afternoon, boneheads! Had to go to work for a bit, now back home, ready for a big hockey day.
Three does sound about right. The reason he didn’t get more is because he isn’t a repeat offender- no suspensions for him prior. Btw, if you look at the hit, it’s obvious that he intended to deliver a clean body hit originally, then when Fleischman avoided it, Deveaux stuck his elbow out. Stupid, but deserves three games
Saw that, Wicky. I agree, if you go into scrum, do it with purpose. It was obvious Gaustad went after Marchant, who is much smaller, and McQuaid went in with serious intend to punish him with his fists.
Would have been fine with more than 3. Penalty should be for the act, not the result.
mcQUAAAAAAAAAID…start the reactor!
Wicky Link +1
Go Seguin!
I’d have no problem with a suspension of 5+ games for that. Might not have been especially malicious, but it ended up being a flagrant elbow, not a poorly executed hit.
Good afternoon, Carp!
Hope all yous ‘heads had lovely feasts yesterday! Mmm… leftovers.
Here comes the first mention of original six
Hi, havent seen Devaux’s hit ! Do you have a Link for me ?
1-0 Wings!
Buff, check the Shanny suspension video on the widget
Noy-Vare in net for the Craps later.
>>Hi, havent seen Devaux’s hit ! Do you have a Link for me ?
Is there something wrong with your Google?
He is in the hospital. Be nice, JBytes
Today will probably be a matchup of backups (like the rhyme) with Biron vs. Neuvirth. 3 in 4 days with Flyers tomorrow would seem like the logical move.
Suspension update above, with Shanny’s video explanation and the league’s statement.
Good afternoon, Sally!
So much for that.

Christensen Stralman also out with Deveaux. Lundqvist playing.
No EC! No Stralman!
Torts hates EC?
According to Andrw Gross: Christensen, Stalman also out. Woywitka back in.
which means Hagelin and Mitchell Report, or is that Willie?, are in.
Hagelin and Mitchell in. Everyone here will rejoice I’m sure. I like the Mitchell addition as I said yesterday. He’s a better offensive player than Deveaux with same size and toughness. Hagelin – can’t be any worse than EC even if he’s a little raw.
Nobody is so Smart like you Jbytes !
you couldn’t be any worse than Crusher.
Carp – Without skates probably. On skates, EC has me beat. I make Sandy McCarthy look like a great skater.
AGrossRecord Andrew Gross
Torts on Christensen scratch: “I don’t see much in Erik’s game right now.”
Pretty much sums it up.
Thanks Carp for the Link ! Three is a good decision because he could have more…..
Did anyone notice Stahl and Wolski having a great ol’ time in the press box the other night? For two injured guys, they look way too happy!!
It was weird seeing Stahl though. He’s like the new Bigfoot.
LMAO@ “I don’t see much in Erik’s game right now .” Maybe he needs to visit an eye doctor?
Stahl-squatch.
Just wondering, Did Fleischmann get his Bel Biv rung?
According to Steve Goldstein their TV pxp guy, Fleischman will be in lineup tonight so no injury which is why Bel Biv got 3 when he probably could have gotten 5 or 6.
LOL @ Stahl-Squatch
Terrible giveaway by Jimmy Howard! 1-1!
Fleischwoman!
Datsyuk! 2-1!
Just because Fleischman came back and passed the “quiet room” test doesn’t mean he didn’t sustain mild brain injury, Carp. In sure he did. I have no doubt he had headaches overnight. Tge issue is, if he gets hot hard again within tge next week or so, he’ll have a full blown concussion.
So far, despite being dominated physically, Detroit is winning because of their skills. In fact, they’re fully responsible for all three goals.
I’m 99% sure Fleischmann just has a broken fingernail.
Hit hard… and I’m sure. Maybe I should use my iPad instead
Carp Never understand a Player who is seeking the Head of Another One with the Elbow
As i Said He could have more

RT @capgeek: #NYR are just under the cap right now thanks to unattainable 75 games-played bonus for Carl Hagelin that saves them $187,500.
Don’t forget that LTI doesn’t get used unless you are over the Cap. Also, wouldn’t be surprised if we’ve seen last of WW and his 3.8 cap hit in the NHL this season.
Bruins should have played Thomas. Just play Rask tomorrow against the Craps!
Already Hagelin has failed to attain a bonus. Bust. Should’ve traded him for a 2nd rounder while they had the chance.
and Torts hates him.
ilb, I don’t think I suggested he wasn’t hurt … except for my usual sarcastic remark during the game that it was a Festivus Miracle he returned.
They never officially placed Staal on LTIR, so it wasn’t about that. But unattainable bonus explains how they could get both of them up.
Giveaway by Lidstrom…Too many passes by Detroit on PP. TRADE THEM ALL. We’ll take ‘em…
I know, Carp.
If any of those Wings players play for NYR, they’ll conveniently look their age, and retire after a few horrible years. It’ll be just like old times!!
He’s actually called Cårl Hågelin.
Fishstiks against the Devils at 3. Now, that’s a tough one…I’d go with: a) No 3 points. b) Fishsticks should win.
I thought it was reported (Brooks?) that Staal was going on LTIR back around Nov. 4.
Really, Carp? I must’ve missed it. Are you sure?
I have been reading and visiting the blog for 2years now. This is my first post! Carp, thank you so much for all of your work in making this the most informative and well organized Rangers blog!
First Time, Long Time!
Orr, I actually thought about using that line, but I can’t stand wfan
http://blueshirtsunited.com/posts/1385-alumni-roster-set
So here is the Rangers’ roster for the outdoor alumni game against the Flyers:
Goalies: Dan Blackburn, John Vanbiesbrouck
Defensemen: Ron Greschner, Darius Kasparaitis, Tom Laidlaw, Brian Leetch, Dave Maloney, Dale Purinton, Mathieu Schneider
Forwards: Glenn Anderson, Paul Broten, Ron Duguay, Nick Fotiu, Mike Gartner, Adam Graves, Pat Hickey, Kris King, Nick Kypreos, Darren Langdon, Stephane Matteau, Brian Mullen, Darren Turcotte
Coaches: Mike Keenan, Emile Francis, Colin Campbell
Ambassadors: Rod Gilbert, Ed Giacomin, Harry Howell
(Stahl on LTIR) Brooks had wrote that as a possible way to bring up MZA. Rangers oddly haven’t said anything about Stahl…
Stahl-squatch is amazing, btw….
ANF, you should have said…
“Carp, me love you first time, long time”
I would have choked from the laughter!
I think he suggested they would too, but I don’t remember seeing any official announcements
“If any of those Wings players play for NYR, they’ll conveniently look their age, and retire after a few horrible years. It’ll be just like old times!!”
LOL! Shanny?
new post.
That would have been a great intro. VBK seems to be finally getting some love back from NYR
last
nope
