Good-bye Kundratek, hello Bouchard

From the Rangers:

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired forward Francois Bouchard from the Washington Capitals in exchange for defenseman Tomas Kundratek.
Bouchard, 23, has skated in 227 career games for the Hershey Bears (AHL), compiling 49 goals and 63 assists for 112 points along with 129 penalty minutes.  In 2009-10, Bouchard notched career highs in games played (77), goals (21), assists (31), points (52), plus/minus (21), and penalty minutes (55).  Last season, he finished seventh on the Bears in goals (12) and recorded four multi-point games.
The 6-1, 198-pounder has competed in 39 career playoff games for Hershey, registering seven goals and seven assists for 14 points, along with 38 penalty minutes, helping lead the team to back to back Calder Cup Championships in 2008-09 and 2009-10.  In 2009-10, Bouchard played in 21 playoff contests, registering 5 goals and 5 assists for 10 points, along with 28 penalty minutes.  He tied for second among team forwards in plus/minus (9) and tied for seventh in playoff scoring.
The Sherbrook, Quebec native was originally selected as Washington’s second round choice, 35th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Kundratek, 21, has played in 77 career games for the Connecticut Whale (AHL), registering two goals and 12 assists for 14 points, along with 44 penalty minutes.  The Trinec, Czech Republic native was originally New York’s third round choice, 90th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

As per our friends at RDS, PIT trades Mark Letestu to CBJ for a fourth-round pick. And, no, it doesn’t have any impact on 87’s status.

  2. LMAO@You’ve all been smayer’d. You tell them, Sean!

Now, I really hope Carp doesn’t decide to ban everyone who made their entries -TODAY- instead of @TOMORROW@. Because if he does, there will be very few contestants *TOMORROW*

Damnit smayer’d for the second time on as many days and BANJing again as well

Guess I see the blunden incident as more of an unfortunate collision like the shanny knuble incident than a Johnson sucker punch.

I understand (I think) that you are talking about players in vulnerable or defenceless position or unaware of an impact. The only issue I have with that is the NHL is an impact sport.

I think teaching players awareness and how not to put themselves in vulnerable positions is every bit as important as no targeting the head.

I also think getting rid of the instigator rule and letting players police themselves would help,

limiting the shoulder and elbow pad size and rigidity is another step to be taken.

And penalizing and fining players who put themselves in vulnerable positions specifically along the boards.

  4. Haha! Sean, nice…

    True Blue Mike

If we were to trade him alone right now, I don’t think we get much of anything…maybe a 2nd round pick/prospect. He’s still not a bonafide NHL’er and I don’t think his stock is very high around the league. If MZA’s fate is like K-Tek’s, I think that would be a shame.

FWIW, I think Torts has been completely honest with the fans about the situation. I do appreciate how much he cares about his players. He has acknowledged that Zuke can only play top 6 minutes to be effective, not a fourth line role. He wants the kid to play and develop his game just as much as we do. That’s why he’s in the AHL.

  5. iWicky (Leeloo Dallas mul-ti-pass) on

From last thread, I liked that trade, then turn around and move huginsky and assets for suter…BOOM!!!!!

  6. Everythin ive read on this kid = another EC / Woofski…..talent that makes fans and gms salivate but inconsistent / disappearin act for stretches…

  7. Wicky- Shanny/Knuble incident is unavoidable. Blunden hit could’ve been avoided if there was enough players respect to one another. How do you teach someone to be aware on the ice if the player who hits you just simply can not, or shouldn’t be there? I understand it’s a contact sport, and that’s the way I like it. But as long as anybody decides to hit as hard as they can if the player isn’t expecting it, there will be devastating injuries. And waiting for a player to turn his head so he can’t see you would be cheap and sneaky in a fair street fight, wouldn’t it? Why is it different in NHL? You see, if you hit unsuspected player legally (shoulder to chest) he may still get a severe concussion. But somehow it’s legal. But when you hit someone in the head with your elbow even if he can see, is not. I do not get it. As long as there isn’t enough players’ respect for one another Matt Cookes will be plying hockey. And Marc Savards will not.

    Anybody watching the Jets-Sabres game?

Scoring in bunches… Sabres score two goals 11 seconds apart. Game Tied 2-2.

  9. Debbie’s coach still looks like Andy Kaufman – he should stand behind the bench dressed as Tony Clifton!

  10. Good day all!

C3, I forget who coined it…sorry!…go back a couple of threads…smayer’d is the semi equivalent of beiing carp’d….when carp can’t update, his awesome ranger fan boss fills in…sean mayer….smayer…hence smayer’d

without taking away from carp’d….I like it :)

    Hi smayer!

  11. Did anyone see the face painter episode on TBS tonight? One of my favorites.
“We’re the Devils, the Devils!! Aggggg!!!”

  12. Olga, looks like Matt Cooke has been allowed to make a career on illegal hits at tge moment.

team olga!! glad we is on the same side now, mr go folksyourself!

  15. Playing the Islanders will be even more interesting with Bouchard in the line up. His cousin is PA Parentheau.

  16. bob The Builder (In search of.... Leonard Knee-moy) on

never olga… i used to think dubinskee was an integral part of this I know it was a plant by Sather to make us think we had top knotch casagrown talent…TRADE DUBINSKEE then FIRE SATHER!

  17. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Manny – smokin Joe was the only decent thing philly ever produced….but then he WAS from south Carolina

  18. Wicky©news flash, anyone on the ice is in a"vulnerable position" on

I know you know this is a contact sport and I wasn’t trying to insult you at all. i understand that you are probably trying to look at it as any type of hit in general (legal or not) that could cause a concussion or where the player is vulnerable of defenceless should not be made. The fact that they are made is due to a lack of respect from a player towards the other player (if I am understanding you correctly).

I do appreciate that stance and as always respect your opinion (both clinically and as a fan), but I just don’t agree with it.

I think that hockey should be played hard and hits should be delivered in the same manner. I do not agree with blatant elbows to the head or dale hunter or matt johnson cheap shots and concussions just flat out suck. There is an inherent risk of injury in hockey to include concussions and to keep the integrity of the game intact you can’t over penalize the contact!

  19. I think the Canes have the hottest babes in the NHL. Every time I watch a Canes game, it’s really the only thing I notice. Especially when they play NYR, a lot of NYR fans that live there go to the game. Babes!

Go Oilers! Go Kings! Go Panthers!

  20. bob The Builder (In search of.... Leonard Knee-moy) on

why cant the players all skate in those bubblicious Sumo wrestler outfits…end result: NO CONCUSSIONS, ONE YEAR!

  21. Wicky, I didn’t feel insulted, lol.

You exadurated a bit what I said. There is a way to keep the game physical and still deliver hard hits the way we all like, and yet diminish the amount of unnecessary, devastating and career ending injuries. And NHL alone can’t do it. It has to originate from within the players themselves.

I think I’m ready to drop it. We will have to agree do disagree. But I have a feeling the boneheads are getting bored by it…

  22. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

When we did we acquire Orest Kinderchuck from the flyers anyway. He has to be in his 60’s …this trade is sheer genius.

  25. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Ilb – speaking of belles, I was watching the catwalk YouTube video of Kate Upton, and I think I have detached retinas – what should I do?

  26. so, ilb

if all the predictions today are too early
than i guess i’m the winner
since i worked all day and didn’t have a
    chance to say carcillo.

    booking my flight now…

  27. Sather really is the master of this deal – he pulls at least one every season

Someone no one’s ever heard for someone no one’s ever heard nor will ever hear from again

  28. Eddie etc.
YOu don’t have to put up with detached retinas…any auto parts store can sell you a new set, and just a small wrench, and a bit of grease afterward can anchor them down.

  29. Eddie, she is a *real* stunner – I wish she needed rehab, too – plenty of room in the basement next to LiLo!!

  30. Olga Folkyerself on

Hawks have a goal disallowed- quick whistle.

  33. eddie eddie eddie on

carp – mentioned it last thread, but a contest predicting the number of times joe m says groin in any given game would be a great contest….

  34. Eddie!!! Shocking!!! But I definitely agree – as long as those rumors of her being with Kanye West are false – if not, she’s isn’t even rehab material for my basement…

  35. eddie eddie eddie on

joe m – “player x is complaining of a sore elbow…..could be a groin issue”

LiLo was in jail for 5 hours. You all missed the conjugal visit sex.

    Better than make up sex…

  37. Apparently it isn’t a great idea to aim a TV camera at the coach whose team just got scored on. Paul Maurice promptly said “Mother Byfuglier”

  38. That L. A. judge crossed me up! LiLo was supposed to get shipped here upon her release from the county jail after 5 hours – something went wrong!!

  39. eddie eddie eddie on

olga – thought you were busting out a Butch cassidy & the sundance kid line with “who are those guys”

I hope so Olga because my Fantasy team sure needs him. My injured player’s include: Crosby, Carter, Kovalchuk, Keith and Briere. They were all injured at the same time at one point! NO LUCK!

  45. eddie eddie eddie on

olga -i f so, i guarantee you, crosby will be so nervous, he will poop, like, 20 times

  46. Olga Folkyerself on

Eddie, you mean Crosby doesn’t poop 20 times? The way they cover him, they should be checking for parasites.

  47. Maybe one of these Christensen/Wolski/Antropov/Grachev guys will finally pay off for the Blueshirts. Has to happen sometime, doesn’t it? Doesn’t it?

  48. Olga Folkyerself on

You know, Carcillo looks better in a Black Hawks jersey, than Brashear ever did in Broadway Blue.

  49. eddie eddie eddie on

your werd, crosby’s turd, words are slurred, vision is blurred, cow’s got curd, i came in third, horses in a herd, geeks and nerds….

  50. “Oh we all get a little cuckoo sometimes George, I used to be like you. Rating personnel ’till they cried, calling managers on the field during a game, threatening to move the team to New Jersey, just to upset people. Then I found a way to relax. I’ve got two words to say to you, George: hot tub.”

  51. iWicky (Leeloo Dallas mul-ti-pass) on

You realize you have been debating with mrs wicky the last few threads? I have been working!

  52. ORR,

Similar thing happened in my league. I traded Franzen after he was useless for around two weeks; Manny gets him, and he has like four or five goals in two games!

  53. Didn’t Kaleta just get suspended for headbutting? What’s with these guys thinking they can headbutt all of a sudden?

  54. Yeah, it’s odd. But, I don’t know if Kaleta was given more than a minor, if that. This one might be a little more vicious since they called a major penalty. He fought Iginla, so I’m assuming he did it during the fight.

  55. I’ll give everyone one to watch. Mike Knuble blew up the Caps locker room after their loss tonight. These are some tough quotes from a guy who wants to win.

“Defense takes urgency. Urgency in your play and it takes urgency in your mindset coming into the play. I don’t know if it’s because it’s November – there’s not that urgency yet. Nobody’s really under the gun at all. We still feel like the season’s early. Eleven games in, you haven’t played that many games. I don’t know if that’s the case; maybe a little bit more defensive urgency because last year we were under the gun when we started playing well defensively. Everybody made a commitment. They’re not scoring ugly goals, either. They’re snapping it around and backdoor play, goalie not even in the net. They make you look bad. It’s like embarrassing when you’re on the ice and guys are beating you. The other night, get beat one on four, just playing like a bunch of losers. You’re going to lose if you play like that – you’re going to lose every night in the league. Let alone talking about playoffs and all that. You’ll lose every night in the league and I think we all went through that last year.”

A question was then asked following up on the need to develop defensive urgency early in the season.

“You practice it, but it just doesn’t happen. It takes a commitment. We practice it in practice; we can’t say we’re not prepared. We know what we’re doing, we talk about it, we watch film about it. And then it’s just a commitment to doing it on the ice. Maybe through the first five games I felt top to bottom it was a better commitment. Of late, I don’t know if we’re all committed. It’s sad to say and we all look bad because of the result – because we don’t all commit. We look great when we’re all committing; we look all like a bunch of clowns when we don’t. A very average team when we’re not all committed.”

  56. Jimbo – Bingo on the captain part. Ovie’s quote after game

“It’s good question but I don’t have the answer for this,” Ovechkin said. “I think everybody try and everybody wants to win and everybody wants to play how we can, maybe tonight was not our night.”

  57. More premature e-speculation!! It’s not “Go Time” yet…..

HW, I don’t think Ovie makes a good captain….he’s too much of an individualistic player, and I don’t think he has great English communications skills – Russian, probably – but not English….

I looked at that fight – I barely saw the head-butt, but my viewing angle wasn’t very good, either…
