It’s Go Time!

Live from Nassau Coliseum … no accidents, no tickets, no roadrage incidents …

First game in North America, only game in the U.S. until the home opener Oct. 27.

Rangers are without Marc Staal and Michael Sauer, so the third D-pair is Steve Eminger and Jeff Woywitka, making his NYR debut. Michael Del Zotto and Tim Erixon are the second pair. Wojtek Wolski (groin) is also out. No pruchas.

Henrik Lundqvist starts his third in a row in goal. Evgeni Nabokov a surprise starter for the Islanders, making his Isles debut and his first NHL start since the 2010 playoffs.

Speaking of home opener, should the Rangers do a players introduction or not?

  2. repost:
    Carp October 15th, 2011 at 6:31 pm

Accidental incident in first moments of warmups. Parenteau lost his edge and fell and came sliding across the red line as the Rangers were circling on their side of the ice. Parenteau went right into an unsuspecting Woywitka, who had to leap over him and looked quite shocked.

  3. Hope they dusted of their hard hats and packed their lunch boxes full o’ grit.

Time to stop with the dumb byfuglien penalties too.

  4. Changes of Village People (funniest nickname ever bestowed here at RR) versus Rupp? I would say above 90 percent.

  5. Noah, Associate Assistant Alternative Captain on

I just got in…I heard Comeau isn’t playing tonight? If true, that is bizarre since he’s good for a point a game against the Rangers.

  6. Ten minutes before gametime, place is half empty. People must be out in the luxurious corridors or those nice bathrooms.

  7. 4generations 4 cups on

Carp thats the way it always is, what, they’re there to see a hockey game? psh.

  8. iDoodie machetto on

Ugh. Giannone. I see the devils stuck with cangiolosi and all I can think of is we need to keep Sam Rosen around forever.

    Let’s go Rangers!!!

  9. billybleedsblue on

I’m kind of missing the game, but I’m kind of near a terminal, so, keep me updated!!! LETS GO!!!!

  10. N.CountryNYRFan on

    Lets Go RANGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to see them come out fired up, and get off to a fast start.

  11. MickeyM – Probably because Stepan was out on the penalty kill.

Does Giannone know that the Isles traded for Rolston rather than signing him? Helped them reach the floor and Devils go below the ceiling.

  12. ZzZz NYR ZzZz© " Don't stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

GO TIMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! ooops sorry im late …

    Undefeated in regulation!!!!

    GO GO GO GO!!!

  13. >>another penalty, here we go :(

This is also the part where they’ll take another penalty and go 3v5.

  14. I’d love to see someone give Parenteau an open-ice hit like the one that got laid on that rookie the other night……..

  15. Stranger Nation on

3 on 1 for Isles and he shoots from above the circle with no screen, thanks for the gum ball Baily!

  16. I can’t figure out if the islanders are allot better team than I thought going into this year or the rangers are worse.

  17. bad defense holycrap we need staal back. who did thebelly flop on the 3 on 2 that gave the isles alone in front to shoot?

  18. ises are better, ranger are about the same tomg. we added richards and lost staal for now.. richards is no good unless he has a sniper to pass to. gabby hast been a sniper snce he hurt his shoulder last year. but gab n rich havent done anything on the pp either. not lookin good

  19. One day the following will happen-

    -The Rangers will be disciplined

    -They’ll have a decent PP

-Dubinsky will get to a rebound and actually put it on net

  20. ilb- if we idnt have girardi we’d have the worst d in teh league. hes keeping us in it imo. some stupid plays by eminger and erixon. so far woywitka is ok. mcdonagh is doin fine but if girardi was hurt too, fugetaboutit. might as well bring aves and redden up and make them the 3rd pair

  21. Okay, I’m already in a cranky mood, but I’m going to look at something positive, 14 shots in one period is pretty good, right?

  22. Czechthemout!!! on

They played an decent 15minutes, but with the dregs on the ice, the islanders scored. By the way, Rupp did not hustle all thevway back on the goal and that fool crapinger screened LQ. You cannot be a contender for anything if barring injury, Steve Eminger is one of your top six and Brandon Prust is one of you top 9.

  23. Maybe the nitwits of OccupyWallStreet should try to occupy the Dump of Nassau? Could be a match made in sewer heaven!

  24. Stranger Nation on

Artie looked good for a shift, gabby scraped the boards, dman Dan and cally with 2 good hits – that’s about it for period #1

  25. if the Rangers lose (loose, as is the common misusage) this game, I will ‘BoB’ myself…and give myself a 2 week ban…that is all!

  26. I was just gonna post they can’t get out of their own D zone and then.. woowza, Richards and Gaborik!

  27. Stranger Nation on

    3rd pair + 4th line = disaster

    Enuf with Arty’s legs Joe

Del Zotto shot just goes wise

  28. just discussing that in the pressbox, Stranger. Totally mismatched fourth line and two minor-league defensemen on the ice at the same time.

  29. Does anybody know what the Islanders (or Rangers?) fans were cheering during “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands” music?

Carp – MSG 150 is basically MSG copying ESPN’s fastest three minutes during MNF with Chris Berman.

czech – Also disagree about Prust. And Eminger is the seventh D without injuries.

  30. N.CountryNYRFan on

    Gabby’s been looking good.

C’mon Cally, just because your Captain doesn’t mean you can do anything you want. Kinda a cheap call though.

  31. iDoodie machetto on

MDZ has pinched in well tonight, but Orr nailed it, can’t hit the net at all. Joe doing his best Chico resch homer impression

  32. LinCalPrustBoylahan© on

i’m about 2 minutes behind you guys… sorry for my late responses to things

  33. N.CountryNYRFan on

I thought that just maybe without Avery we wouldn’t get the BS calls against all of the !effin time

  34. It’s hard to win games playing shorthanded. An epidemic for the Rangers so far this season

  35. I guess waiving Avery didn’t win us a reprieve from the wrath of the refs – they’re still calling phantom penalites on us as if Aves was still here and playing on the first line…..

  36. I see one thing hasn’t changed, the refereeing against the rangers. Every freaking year I watch my team get screwed by the refs. I watch other hockey teams play and I never see the soft calls like I do against the rangers. NHL, Buttmen and the rest of his crew suck butt.

  37. Stranger Nation on

Erixson has to stop throwing puck widely on goal when pinching. Will result in odd man rush with only MDZ back, enuf said

ty, Orrstradamus! lol I could go to any number of other sites, but it’s more fun to come here :D :D :D

  40. Stranger Nation on

Step playing both first line left wing and chairman of the boards. He is laying the lumber out there and sticking up for team. Luvin it!

  41. billybleedsblue on

Linda, YOU ARE SO RIGHT. some other official site could be faster to find out a scoreboard, but, whatever! Carp, “you’re welcome Torts” — too funny. I wonder how close he’s come to actually posting here… hehehe

  42. carp, I went to the ranger/islander game with my nephew a few years ago. It was the game at the end of the year. The rangers won the game and a huge brawl broke out right above us. There were allot of security that got involved and this one guy near me was so upset he used his cell phone and actually called the cops. That’s when i turned to my nephew and said “let’s get out of here”. There was only 10 se3conds left in the game. That is normal for a ranger/islander game. It’s like fight night after the alcohol takes affect.

  43. Girardi has played solid too, CTM…

Is it me, or does anyone else think that we need to recall Newbury to center our 4th line?

  44. VPG with an impressive 2:47 played so far, six minutes less than any other Islander forward. And no doubt primed to play a key role in a tied game heading into the third.

But he has certainly deterred a whole lot of mayhem on the ice.

  45. Is Anisimov your new Avery, bull dog? They guy’s been fine tonight and the chance you’re talking about was broken up by a good defensive play.

  46. Stranger Nation on

Ilb – Newbury is a good call – he and Rupp along with the hobbit is a solid line 4

  47. Mayhem? The dude from the Allstate commercial is playing tonight? No wonder the Rangers are taking so many penalties!

  48. ok, I’m sorry.
I should save that stuff for days when there is nothing to talk about.
no, I think AA can actually play. Avery, not so much.

  49. do we have 1 more goal to tie this?? forget aboutextending our ot losing streak, les just et to ot boys!

  50. If we had this lineup and Wolski playing instead of Rupp, the fourth line would be our shootout all-stars. Just shows how much of a mockery the shootout is.

  51. me thinks we’ve been outplayed tonight. even though Gaborik has been the best player on the ice tonight.

  52. LinCalPrustBoylahan© on

    lmao ilbzo!!!

Orr, irecall him taking a penalty like 5 seconds into the game, then drawing a penalty later on… that’s it

  53. iDoodie machetto on

Interesting decision by torts to make Callahan and Dubinsky a line together without a third guy. What’s that you say? Anisimov is on the ice? Really?

  54. Yeah, efforts alone are not enough with such a week defence and totally incoherent ofence. Scrapy.
Individually though, Gabby, AA, Stepan are not bad at all. Woiwitka, BTW, mocking aside, is solid and calm considering circumstances, IMO.

  55. iDoodie machetto on

What’s that thing the islanders are doing on their PPs? It’s like they move their legs and feet so as to avoid being stationary in the offensive zone. I didn’t know that was allowed!

  56. it is blasphemous to hear “let’s go rangers” chant at texas rangers’ game. that chant is for the new york rangers. rant over.

  57. iDoodie machetto on

The Carped 4 Life league is broken. The scoring system is just totally imbalanced. Maybe a change to default scoring is in order

  58. I was just yelliong for Gaborik to get off the ice right before he did that. Richards was already at the bench. Coach has to stop that stuff if he won’t

  59. N.CountryNYRFan on

i think Artie \has been decent tonight, it’s Cally and Dubi who have been very quiet.

  60. Well, another crappy effort in the Nassau Mausoleum – no matter who the coach is, who our players are, what the standings are…..we consistently *SUCK* playing out there.

  61. N.CountryNYRFan on

one postive tonight was the Step-Richards-Gabby line. Torts better leave it together.

  62. sad, when Carp says go home time, but I must admit I ran to the store and missed most of this. jpg is at Widespread Panic show. He keeps texting though with the score.

  63. N.CountryNYRFan on

whats a 30 sec timeout gonna do when ou just had a week off to practice. Pathetic!!!!!

  64. >>>Rangers may have gotten better this off season but so did everyone else.

Everyone else has, but what makes you think that the Rangers did? What do you see that’s different so far?

  65. N.CountryNYRFan on

what do these guys need to come out fired up, they get off to the worst starts!!!!!!!!!

  66. We all knew this was a trap game and it went as many of us expected I fear. And yet, I still hate losing. :(

  67. LinCalPrustBoylahan© on

    well said NC!!

blah! this was so putrid it ruined my yummy cheat day food… bastages

  68. N.CountryNYRFan on

the Boyle penalty was a horrible call and it cost us. but our team still only seems to like to play half a game.

  69. LinCalPrustBoylahan© on

waiting until the last 5 minutes of periods one and two to play does NOT lead to wins

  70. sorry to say this ….woulda liked to have Avery playing tonight !!!!!!
…dont think would coulda had any more penalties than we did ..

  71. can’t blame it because staal and sauer are out. This team looks like the same team I’ve been watching the past few years. Power play still stinks and they still are anemic offensively.

  72. Can the hockey Rangers borrow some offense from the baseball Rangers? They’re up 8-2 right now.

  73. Don’t forget, the second Ranger goal went in off of an Isles skate – our guys only put one puck directly into the net – we got lucky on that one, but not in the outcome of the game.

This team just does *NOT* have enough consistent scorers! Didn’t last year, and don’t so far this year.

  74. Stranger Nation on

Cannot be an effective grinding defensive team with 2 of your best D on sideline. The rangers medical staff is on par with the Mets. WTB!

  75. ZzZz NYR ZzZz© " Don't stepan the logo!!!"...says Greg L. on

Ahh , all is not lost. We win on the road in the western trip comming up!!! We win and win and win some more!!! No need to panick and jump off the boat . Our team will rally early on and start winning I promise you. Either that , ya trade Hank for a real elite goalie or draft pick….? Sell the goalie and force the team to play “full time” defense.

  76. onecupin72yearsandcounting on

This game was an Avery game.. he would have stirred the pot as well as taken a penalty or two..
I’ll take tavares over the Richards and gaborik.
After the first line who’s taking charge?

Don’t blame the european start and the week off. its the same old story with sather and torts

  77. LinCalPrustBoylahan© on

to hell with opening in Europe every year. There are plenty of other teams in the league to do. And they are talking about possibly doing it DURING the season at some point? As long as EVERY TEAM goes, and not the freakin Rangers every year..

  78. Yes, really. The puck was coming around the boards; if he had held his position, he would have either gotten the puck or impeded Moulson enough as to allow McDonagh to get the puck.

I’m obviously not blaming the game on Girardi; he’s been one of the best players so far this season, probably. Just another poor decision by the Rangers 6 on 5.

  79. I tell ya, I’m not inclined to spend this whole season following a team with a popgun offense lose a ton of one-goal games again……these past few seasons have been murder to put up with….players with a load of potential (we all believe) underachieving, not scoring, taking crappy penalties…..Bah!

  80. >>>LOL! Slats said that he wants to start in Europe every year. Hahaha! Great idea, you idiot!

He *should* start in Europe every year – he should become a GM of some KHL team!

  81. what happened to that line continutity we wer supposed to start experiencing today.

    Isles dominated.

they actually have some superior talent, after cherry picking the draft for umpteen years.

They have a good breakout, we definitely do not. Its like we have no dumping it in is Ok in certain predicaments. That is our typical patented giveaway play from preseason

Some good things. we gotta give our lines abit of time to gel.
they need s little game time together.

It is time to open some vodka, run the forget about this game app.
    hockey is back!!

    good night to all you late nighters on the East coast;

  82. Olga Folkyerself on

Jimbo- pick a team in the West to follow for this year. (I picked Chicago) There’s no conflict of interest unless they meet the Rangers in the Finals.

Which will never happen as long as Sather is in NY…

  83. For all of Torts talk about discipline, this team takes WAY too many penalties. Also, he shortens the bench way too early and they’ve looked gassed come the 3rd period.

I know it’s only 3 games, but I’m getting real tired of Torts tough talk.

Also, Artie was AWOL this game.

  84. The outstanding 2003/04 Rangers swept the season series against the playoff-bound Islanders. Coach for all those games: Mr G. Sather…

  85. I hear what you’re saying, Olga, but I just can’t transfer my “ardor” to another team, even if it’s only temporary – it’s a good thing if one can do it, but I don’t seem to have that ability, unfortunately.

  86. I’m all grumpy now after this game so signing off to watch a movie and hopefully get in a better mood. later gators!

  87. ORR, and what is even more galling is that these moves were made by a G.M. that is considered to be a laughing stock on a team that has laughing stock management – but a lot of his moves aren’t looking too bad!

  88. Stepan looked good on the LW. I will still argue that he needs to be the number 2 center, and for that matter Wolski needs to be the top LW. you have to have balance. one line does not cut in the NHL. the Rangers can keep waiting for AA to reach his potential, or they can put the better player at the number 2 center position.
    WW, Richards, and Gabby.
    Dubi, Stepan, and Cally.

  89. Olga Folkyerself on

Jimbo- I got in the habit when Sather GM’d the team onto the golf course every April. I had to have SOMETHING to watch until June each year…

  90. >>>And I thought VPG was very effective in his zero shifts in the third period.

    Who is VPG?

  91. I getcha, Olga – I always watch all the playoff series games, but to me, it’s always “which team do I hate the most?”, and then I kinda root for their opponent – but it in no way approaches the ardor I have if the Rangers were still playing.

  92. MZA has no role on this team. move him to left wing, or send him down. with Gabby Cally, and Prust on the right. it does not leave much time for MZA. with the complete lack of goal scoring it is a bit surprising he is not getting more of a look.

  93. Thanks on VPG – I can’t seem to keep that one in my memory banks! Lots of jibberish to remember here….

  94. I don’t really agree with the excuse as to why they sent him to the AHL. If you can’t squeeze him in for more time, then trade him, or trade someone else to create more room.

I like MZA, but I’m just not all that impressed with the kid.

  95. Olga Folkyerself on

I generally favor the Original Six teams (except Montreal). Chicago stunk for years until their decrepit owner Wirtz dropped dead. When they revived and were finally getting good, they were a joy to watch. I enjoyed the Black Hawks Cup run almost as much as the Rangers in ’94. (I said ALMOST). It is much more satisfying the “rooting against”, although there is some joy in watching Philly lose all these years…

  96. Carpinello's Grocer on

BETTER GO BACK TO THE BANK FOR MORE RAG TRADITION. Poor red-headed step child franchise with one bought cup since 1940 from Edmonton Blackhawks.

At least one team named Rangers will be the New York headline tomorrow, the Texas Rangers….LOL

Someone getting Leetch out of the gutter, he’s drunk again.

  97. Olga, if I were ever to go that route, the Hawks or Detroit would probably be the teams for me. I’ve always had a “love-hate” thing with Chicago from back in the day (believe it or not!) when Rangers-Hawks met in the playoffs for lots of seasons in a row… the late 60’s early 70’s.

I always liked Bobby Hull, too – I always wished that the Rangers would be able to pry him from Chicago, but it was WHA money that finally got that job done.

  98. >>>Man, these Preds jersey’s are fugly. Bright yellow jerseys. Looks like fresh pee.

I thought they looked like French’s Yellow Mustard myself…..

  99. Olga Folkyerself on

I always liked the Black Hawks Jersey. Best in the NHL. Detroit has won too many Cups lately, time for new blood. I would even root for Toronto if they ever get any good.

  100. ORR!! What Is It Good For?!?! October 15th, 2011 at 10:01 pm
MZA to the AHL. Uh oh! NYR is gonna lose his shyte

If the team can’t stay at even strength…what’s the point of having Zuccarello? He’ll never play…He had 7:55 in that game…It’s not his fault…

Hopefully he does well enough in Hartford….the Rangers need to figure their shyte out soon before they end up in the bottom of the barrell early on…

  101. >>>I would even root for Toronto if they ever get any good.

Y’know, of all the teams in the NHL, I think I feel the most sorry for the fans of the Maple Leafs. Now that, coming from a Ranger fan, may sound very silly, but those poor TO fans consistently have to put up with teams that are just terrible – TO’s management rivals the Rangers for most consistent ineptitude over the years…..

  102. Slatsko Folkyerself on

Did you hear about the two hockey fans in Buffalo that were arrested for attempting to kill Sather? When they asked them why they were in Buffalo, they replied “That’s where the end of the line was”

  103. Well. That sucked. PA Parenteau killed us again and boy oh boy does Tavares (and that whole line) look good. Sloppy and horrendoUs defense without Stawl and Sauer Pauer

  104. Could it be that the Rangers got beat by a better (OMG, brace yourselves) team???

Yes, it’s fun to knock the Islanders and certainly for the most part it’s not without merit, but let’s not forget they’ve stockpiling top end talent, specifically John Tavares.

And think about this: Who’s the top Ranger and would you do a 1 for 1 swap if you could for JT?
