Zuccarello fined $2,500 for hit on Clifford

From the NHL:

NEW YORK (October 7, 2011) — New York Rangers forward Mats Zuccarello has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for boarding Los Angeles Kings forward Kyle Clifford in NHL Game  #5 on Friday in Stockholm, Sweden, the National Hockey League announced today.
The incident, which occurred 3:05 into the first period, was reviewed by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety. The fine was levied for violation of Rule 41.1 — Boarding, of the National Hockey League’s Official Rules. A minor penalty for boarding was assessed on the play.
The fine money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

  1. Wait till one of the NHL’s “boys” gives a hit from behind and watch how fast shanahan’s choke collar is pulled.

  2. Just watched the ending. I’m not going to get into the whole “weak call refs suck” debate. I’ve always said good teams find ways to win despite officiating. The fact is that this team even with Richards still does NOT have enough talent to win when they half ass it. They just got a quick reminder that in order to win they have got to play a full 60 minutes of smart and aggressive hockey every night. And once they’re back at MSG they’re going to have to win game at home this year too.

  3. good point james – they can’t afford to re-learn the lessons of last year over the first few months. They need to start the progress toward clicking on all cylinders if they want to get out of the 7,8,9 position. I’m ready for Wolski and Zucs to take a trip to the AHL and send up some youngsters. They add nothing.

  4. I wonder if MZA’s “offense” gets a review by Shanny – or is the fine the last word on the subject?

  5. Thanks, ORR – that’s good news, at least. I think it’s discrimination against Hobbits, however…

Finally got to watch the dvr’d game…

    congrats you hottie!!!

Not much to say really as one game does not make a great sample set, but

    we were not physical enough

loved the way eminger was physical around the net, penalty and all. sauer was good there as well, got smoked by brown on one play though.

I think that is going to be the story of the gabby line all season quiet quiet GOAL quiet

credit to dubi for a great pass in front of the net to gabby on the goal

OPG still needs to stay on his feet (you were right LW)…on that note he is one of my daughters favorite players because he slides around all game on his stomach like a penguin (she loves penguins! No, not the ones from pittsburgh).

speaking of d men, willie mitchell looked pretty good…why isn’t he a ranger?

also a D man note, jack johnson looks so much like ulfie when he is out there it is almost creepy.

    is woywitka—> playing tomorrow?

what is the name of the B and J’s that is german chocolate cake??

as far as fantasy goes in the cccp league doodie is killing me, in my league I’m giving sally the what for!!

  7. wicky© (Our D is a bunch of poussins and belongs in MAMBY PAMBY LAND!!!!) on

    two other things
agree 100% with milbury during the second intermission, stop making this a pansy league!!

and isn’t the kings coach the one that used to coach the flyers and colin campbell was going to whip his assen during a game when he was rangers coach??

  8. billybleedsblue on

Wow, Carpenter really deserves this IMO. Ok, back to hockey, it’s a good thing for the rest of the league that Zuccs isn’t 6′ +

  9. TLR talking about the Squirrel and Torty. There something we don’t know about Torts??!!

  10. billybleedsblue on

This makes Tony La Russa look like a genius. Carpenter vs. Halladay in game 5 and the Cards slay the Philly dragon in Philly. Wow Weeeee. Lol, La Russa is out of his mind. Did anyone catch that interview from the dugout? Hahahaha, eat it Philly. Let’s go Cards! And Rangers! Let’s Go Rangers!

  11. billybleedsblue on

Mickey, how crazy is that guy? Lol, the Cards and that damn squirrel. Hahaha, good for them!!!

  12. Well, on that point we can certainly agree, Mickey – anything that screws over Philthy and their fans is good in my book!

  13. billybleedsblue on

La Russa has a job for life in St. Louis, I know that much. I admit I have a soft spot for the Cards. Wow, what a win! Those Philly fans looked shocked. Hahahaha, OH WELL.

  14. I’m become forced to be a Cards fan, living here in STL. And now, I’m full fledged.

See ya next year, Philthy. BUh Bye.

  15. billybleedsblue on

The Cards were out by 10 1/2 games on August 26th! What a crazy game. It’s so impossible to predict. La Russa for president!

sick as a dog and working like crazy, other than that fine!!

  17. ORR

Do you want Kari Lehtonen? Think which of your top 3 forwards you’re will to part with and I will trade Lehtonen. Remember, goalies are pretty important in my league…bring tons of points :)

  18. Hahaha!! I love squirrels – I rescued a tiny baby one once, and I used to feed them peanuts by hand in my backyard. Smart little buggers!

Didn’t the 1969 Mets have a black cat that mysteriously showed up on the field a few times during their miracle World Series run?

  19. Sorry to hear that you’re sick, Wickster – what’s ailing you out there in the wilderness?

  20. wicky© (Our D is a bunch of poussins and belongs in MAMBY PAMBY LAND!!!!) on

just some kind of funkish crud, half the people at my work have had it or have it!!

did they do any special ceremony for boogey before the game or anything?

baseball=the crappy sport that just never seems to end (painfully so)!

I’ve been this way since this hottie on a blog dumped me and this other guy for a guy that stammers when he types his name…

  23. wicky© (Our D is a bunch of poussins and belongs in MAMBY PAMBY LAND!!!!) on

btw, how is your fantasy team doing?

  24. billybleedsblue on

There was a squirrel at Yankee Stadium a few years ago that would run up and down the Foul pole… in right I believe. Hahaha, the Phillies totally got owned by a squirrel.

  25. wicky© (Our D is a bunch of poussins and belongs in MAMBY PAMBY LAND!!!!) on

not doing so well in the NFL league??

  26. Oh, I see – take care of yourself, Wick – one of us has to survive to keep MickeyM happy if she ever decides that she made the wrong move last season…… ;-D

Mickey, I thought I remembered the black cat incidents – very good!

And in Toronto, back when they first came into the American League, they played in a park that was inundated with seagulls – there were gulls *everywhere* on the field when they played at home!

  27. Can the ref that screwed us in OT get fined?

How are Wolski and Zuccarello supposed to play themselves out of Tort’s doghouse when they aren’t getting enough icetime, PP time or OT time to get going?

What amazed me the most this game was how physical Gaborik was, he was throwing his body around and had at least 5-7 hits, but got credited for zero.

Wasn’t too impressed with Boyle’s line especially Rupp who did not look like a great fit on that line. I would put Rupp back with Stepan and Zuccarello and try Wolski either with Boyle or Anisimov or Richards.

Prust looks like he got a bit faster thanks to skating lessons.

Erixon wasn’t bad, but I wish to see more physical play and more offense.

    Del Zotto looked pretty good.

Eminger besides a bad penalty did not completely stink.

  28. MickeyM – See what you did to Wicky? I haven’t felt too well myself since then……hussy!

  29. wicky© (Our D is a bunch of poussins and belongs in MAMBY PAMBY LAND!!!!) on

I agree about gabby being the most physical on that line!!

  30. >>>Eminger besides a bad penalty did not completely stink.

Well, that’s a ringing endorsement if I’ve ever heard one!! ;-)

  31. Anybody hear about Sullivan not being at the bench? Did he and Tort have a falling out? Did Tort can him?

Pretty funny how egotistical and arrogant Tort is having only 1 assistant coach(or maybe 0 now) when all other coaches have 2 or 3 assistant coaches.

  32. Orr- I didnt get a chance to repost from the previous thread but I agree with you about line juggling. Dubinsky on the top line really screws with the chemistry amongst the other players

  33. billybleedsblue on

I saw the 1st period and couldn’t believe that Dubi was up there on the 1st line. Why would you break up the CAD line? Ugh, I’m sure there’s more juggling to come. I missed the rest of the game, but I didn’t like the calls in the 1st. We really are going Europansy… Zuccs barely hit that guy…

  34. Speaking of assistant coaches, I saw Scott Gordon (ex-Fishsticks coach) behind the Leafs bench as an assistant for them – I guess Wangster completely got rid of him…

  35. You guys who don’t watch baseball, you still would have enjoyed seeing the Cardinals celebrate on the Winter Classic field and all those Philly fans booing and crying. Waaaaaahhhh!

    well, i enjoyed it.

Not coming to St. Loo, though, Mickey.

  36. Well, they’ll have a few extra weeks to get the Winter Classic rink and all the other paraphernalia in there now! Hahahaha!!!

  37. Hey, I’m not overpaying for Kari Letting-Everything-In based on one win!!!

I might as well pick up DiPietro or Nabokov.

Speaking of which, which goalies are starting for the Isles tomorrow. Are they going with all three of Montoya, DiPietro, and Nabby?

  38. billybleedsblue on

lol, what are these guys on? (the tbs post game show) They are really bein’ silly.

  39. If they put Nabokov and Montoya in *with* DiPi, they may protect him from getting hurt in the first period, at least……

  40. wicky

yeah… my football team blows! you might as well find someone to replace my assen :(

Lehtonen had 34 wins last year and was a great fantasy goalie for me…and when healthy, he is definitely one of the better goalies in the league. Your goalie position kind of sucks and i felt bad for a moment…but now, suit yourself :P

  41. “If the Rangers recall Avery, he could be claimed for 25 percent of the price, with the Rangers paying 25 percent and the Dallas Stars 50 percent, according to a recent ruling by the NHL.”

  42. bob, interesting for who? no one wants him. get that through to your head. please. have a pleasant night.

  43. also interesting if another team claims him on recall waiver and then waives him and another team grabs him on recall waiver does that mean that team only pays him 1/8 of his salary?

  44. Bob

From my admittedly disadvantaged viewpoint of being in the actual building and facing the players’ bench, I could see Sullivan on the bench. Though he wasn’t holding hands with Torts, so you could be right about there being a major problem.

Or you could just be making Carcillo up.

Some interesting column titles currently posted at: http://www.vegasinsider.com...

    1. “Raiders – NFL honor Al Davis.” (Hmmm, let me guess, leading the honorary contingent were one time fans of the Los Angels Rams, Baltimore Colts, St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Oilers, (original) Oakland Raiders, (original) Cleveland Browns, and (almost) Phoenix Eagles.) Makes sense to me.

    2. “Gary Bettman welcomed in Winnipeg.” (Well, let see, my guess is that three members of the “Welcome Gary Committee” showed up – two politicians up for election getting some gratis camera time, and a 16-year old female Gary Bettman groupie who is hot for Bettman’s body, in lieu of Arnold Schwartzenegger’s failure to show up at the Winnipeg Airport, yet again. As for a contingent of REAL human beings showing up to welcome the Commish, rumor has it that they hit the Martini Circuit a bit early, opting to dive for an olive pit over genuflecting to a human hockey puck.

    3. “Fan throws hot dog at (Tiger) Woods.” (Looks like the human race is catching on to the fact that you just can’t throw a banana at anybody, indiscriminently, any more, without suffering some legal repercussions. Plus I hear “the mustard was off the hot dog,” making it politically-correct as a projectile.)

    4. “Ex-Southern Indiana coach loses appeal.” (Truth be told he threw his toupee at an official who made a bad call, so that while the official looked bad on the call, the coach looked even worse in the mirror.)
