According to Katie Strang of ESPN-NY, and via Adam Rotter’s SNY blog, the Rangers claimed D Jeff Woywitka off waivers from Montreal, according to a source,
Woywitka is a big 6-2, 6-3, 227 pounder, who played last season for Dallas and is a former first-rounder of the Flys.

First!
Who???
Wicky must be excited over this news!!! Nice acquisition, Slats!
I think it moved…
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY? This is just getting ridiculous. How many mediocre at best defensemen do we need?
And this guy doesn’t even hit much.
Claimed from Montreal. Played for Dallas last year.
I remember that he was part of the deal that sent Pronger to the Oilers…how could you forget a name like that…
They should trade him for a second rounder while they still can.
EVERYTHING IS GONNA BE FINE YOU GUYS! JEFF WOYWITKA!
To those in the Carped 4 Life fantasy league, it was nice drafting with you all last night. I hope to crush you all soon.
ilb, did you see the report on Martin and CTE? What are your thoughts on it?
My hat trick was Carped.
Too bad his first name is Jeff instead of Wojtek.
Woywitka is a nice depth pickup. Rangers are stock piling depth which is smart in the current NHL. The teams that have won the CUP coming out of the lockout have used up to 35 players throughout the season to win. While this certainly doesn’t propel them any further in the standings, it’s an upgrade off Bell and Bickel. Woywitka will probably challenge Eminger for that 6th spot when Staal is back figuring they force feed us one of MDZ or Erixon all year.
I’d like to see them make a bigger splash on defense, but I think defensemen have become the starting pitchers of hockey. You have to overpay in dollars and talent to get them. I don’t think Slats is willing to part with Dubinsky to get a player like Carl Gunnarson from Toronto. (Don’t laugh – that’s the going rate for defensemen that can play top 4 minutes). Just look at the Erhoff and Wisnewski contracts.
Doodie – I had a brilliant time drafting with you chaps last night also. I can’t wait until my team goes 5-12. I am also really happy about my auto-drafted bench full of players on IR.
Based on what is Woywitka an upgrade over Bell or Bickel or even Eminger?
I know one thing… that CT Whale defense is going to be pretty good.
Parlett-Bell
Valentenko-Redden
Niemi-Bickel
Manny, what is with this 5-12 thing? I was away from the blog for a couple of weeks, but it seems to be the big new joke.
bob, over Eminger he is an upgrade by just not being Eminger. The other two, I don’t know.
Are you serious, Doodie? Maybe you weren’t around for everyone poking fun at David Klein and his blog “Defending the Core.” I would link you to his great, and most recent, post which describes the failings of the Met’s season as their record is now 5-12.
I meant..I would link you, but his blog doesn’t exist anymore.
Wasnt this guy in Transformers???
Ah. Got it.
I was around for David Klein. He tried to expose my real identity. But as a superhero, this could be very damaging to me.
“To those in the Carped 4 Life fantasy league, it was nice drafting with you all last night. I hope to crush you all soon.”
Doodie, it was a pleasure. But, we’ll see who gets crushed ;)
Defending the Snore!
Bob – Bell and Bickel are not NHL Players. Bickel is a career AHLer and Bell was playing the Spengler Cup for Messier last year. With the shortage of defense in the NHL right now, if you are playing in the Spengler Cup last year that means no one had you as even an 8th d-man/first callup guy on their depth charts.
Woywitka has played 250 NHL games. He was a plus player in 63 games for a bad hockey team last year. No one is saying he’s going to a top 4 defenseman but he’s definitely a proven NHLer where Bell and Bickel are guys you are hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with.
Bell and Bickel should be in CT and prove to the scouting department they belong in the NHL.
I wish I knew which bonehead was which team. CCCP should send out a list.
From The Hockey News:
ASSETS: Has great size and strength. Displays a nice all-around package. Can produce points at lower levels.
FLAWS: Struggles with confidence issues at the NHL level. Lacks defensive polish and makes too many mistakes with the puck.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Depth defenseman
I am sure glad we are pulling in top D men who can help out our young core who may lack polish and make mistakes with the puck at times. And the confidence issue sure makes me feel better as well
So it looks like Kundratek is not even on the radar anymore.
Whale now has:
Lee Baldwin
Collin Bowman
Brendan Bell
Stu Bickel
T.J. Fast
Tomas Kundratek
Jyri Niemi
Jared Nightingale
Blake Parlett
Wade Redden
Pavel Valentenko
“And the confidence issue sure makes me feel better as well”
Would you say it makes you confident?
“Displays a nice all-around package”
What’s the Hockey News doing writing about his package? And, what’s he doing displaying it?
Somebody’s gone some ‘splainin’ to do.
Doodie –
Cant wait to see Torts face when he coughs up the puck at the blue line on the break -
My team is “Whoaaa Bundy”
I’m taking some chances on a few rookies. I got Ted Nugent-Non-Hodgkin’s-Lymphoma and Mark Scheifele.
I have no idea what to do, but I fell good!
LMAO @ “it moved”
I have no idea who this guy is.
Yea – send out a list Doodie!
Ohhh, I might miss the Yankees game. I’ll probably be watching Flyers/Bruins. I’ll try to watch a little.
Doodie
i made a topic in the league for people to post their RR names. We aim to please! :)
Thanks for coming to the draft. Good luck!
Woy-WHO-tka?
who’d you think we get off of waivers a player of Sean Avery’s talent?
new post.
