Fan Interaction to Play a Major Role in Television Coverage of Four Rangers Games Sept. 10-14 … Viewers to Have Unprecedented Access to the Rink and Locker Rooms
New York, NY – September 8, 2011 – MSG Network will offer Rangers fans an opportunity to take part – via Twitter – in the telecasts of four Rangers games from the 2011 Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament, which runs from September 10-14 in Traverse City, Michigan. Viewers will also have never-before-seen access to the team, coaches and executives during the five day competition.
Starting today, MSG Network’s Traverse City play-by-play man John Giannone (@jaygeeMSG) and reporter Dave Maloney (@DaveMaloneyMSG) will call on fans to join their conversation on Twitter by using the hashtag #NYRprospects. Giannone and Maloney, along with color commentator Joe Micheletti, will turn to Twitter for questions and remarks from viewers, which they can respond to and comment on during the action starting Saturday. The former Rangers captain will also use Twitter as the source of his questions as he talks to players benchside throughout the game, as well as for reports and interviews during intermissions.
MSG Network viewers will have unlimited access to the players, coaches and executives at the tournament. A number of players will wear wireless microphones during the games and cameras will follow the Rangers’ prospect team coach, Ken Gernander, into the locker room for pregame and intermission talks.
Viewers can also follow @MSGNetworks on Twitter or go to www.msg.com/rangers for additional information and tweets, including live updates from the tournament, as well as exclusive photos and interviews with players and coaches in their entirety. Extended video clips of Giannone, Micheletti and Maloney responding to fan-submitted questions will also be available.
The 2011 Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament includes eight teams from the NHL, split into two divisions: the Gretzky Division (New York Rangers, St. Louis, Dallas, Carolina) and the Howe Division (Detroit, Buffalo, Columbus, Minnesota). Each team will face its division opponents once in the opening round and the final day will feature the top seeds in the Championship Game, as well as the remaining teams in the third, fifth and seventh place games, based on their records.
2011 marks the 14th year of the Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament, which has previously featured current Rangers players, including Marc Staal, Dan Girardi, Ryan McDonagh, Michael Sauer, Artem Anisimov, Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Callahan and Derek Stepan.

He also relates a tale of some plane problems some NHL stars had in Russia during the Lockout. It is about halfway down an article that starts with Berlet writing about Anisimov and Vasyunov.

You know something I read that Derek Jeter said really strikes a chord. He said that although it made people feel better when the Yankee players went to see them, he personally felt very uncomfortable. I’m in total agreeance that although it was great for sports players to help ease the pain the country was suffering, we “now” are putting waaaayyyy to much emphasis on how they helped. Of course this is going to lead to some reporting agency like ESPN to ultimately embarrass themselves or even our country by putting 9/11 and sports together, and really they are the very far apart. What helped this country was just the fact that these players are everyday people and they were suffering just like us. Thats it people leave it at that.

IMHO, The best thing the sports guys can do for America is to just play their respective games and stay out of ‘politics.’ If they just do what they are paid to do (keep us entertained and provide some form of escapism), that might help Americans to feel that things are ‘normal’ (or closer to it).
Obviously, charity work is wonderful, but past that, these sports guys really should keep their mouths shut and just do their jobs. Emphasis on the shutting of the mouth(s), and I too will “stop right there before I make any accusations.”
It’s just if it’s that reliable why go ahead and gather large groups of people?? It’s a very difficult question. Do we let them win, by doing this? Another question is if we were to cancel things where would they turn there attention? The Jets game on 9/11?? I don’t know, but the Government is gotta be going nuts trying to find these guys.

Manny I didn’t take it personally. I was just pointing out something that I thought a lot of people are thinking but not actually saying. I would do nothing to change my routine, but if your in NYC on Sept. 11th it is a thought that would personally bother me. The bridges, tunnels, everything that stands for NY is a target. Their was an article in the Daily News today about a Muslim family that has denounced the Muslim religion 1. cause they lost a son on 9/11 2. in the aftermath they were discriminated against and they too just want the American dream.

Manny understand that I was a Police Officer, and when NYC was asking for help towns from all over Morris County…..thats like a half hour away…..we all gathered Officers and sent them to NY. I in no way feel we should be intimidated but these guys are just trying so damn hard to show us they can do it. I believe they no longer want to do it to cry about America and it’s stance in the Mid-East, but they want to do it just to show they can get us no matter what we do. Over 80% of Americans believe we will be attacked again, and over 80% believe we will live with terrorism, and never really be able to stop it.
This is not the place to really talk about it, so sorry this fodder is so serious. I just thought it would be interesting to get peoples take on going to NYC for the anniversary. Sorry I’m being serious it is a touchy subject to a lot of people even thou it’s been 10 years.

I have spent enough time in Israel taking public transportation and visiting the West Bank (living on the border of it) that I just think you have to enjoy what you can and accept the inevitable. I am not saying we ARE going to die in a terrorist attack but I am saying that if it happens, I don’t want to be living scared when it does. I want to be enjoying myself to the fullest. I am very happy that I was allowed the chance to live on this planet and with these people (all of you) and I am going to cherish that and not let some miniscule chance bother me.

The flight was 10 hours, Tiki. By the way, for world travelers on the blog, I’d strongly recommend Xcomglobal Mi-Fi. We landed in Ben Gurion, turned it on and have Wi-Fi on our iPhones and the iPad. Secure, of course. I drove to Tel-Aviv and mrs was reading turn-by-turn directions using the iPad right to our hotel. We unpacked, went for a walk and found the restaurant using Zagat’s on line service.

I took the day off from work (Farmer’s Insurance) and was the ONLY ONE to miss work that day, and the next day they wanted to know where I was the day before (while Americans in droves were dying!)
You know something, we are under siege at all times, even if the next two-three days are relatively quiet. All of our enemies do not reside overseas.
