The first day of the rest of Chris Drury’s life

Because yesterday, when Drury surprised everybody by anouncing his retirement — through the players’ union — we didn’t really get a chance to discuss’s 30-in-30 on the Rangers

In case you missed it, here’s the main story. For the whole package go to

And here is the video assessment of E.J. Hradek (who originally worked at the same paper with me … bet you didn’t know that).

Alongside that are other Rangers video highlights to help you through this weekend.

Finally, apparently there was a tribute to the former captain at the Little League World Series game last night. Did you guys know that Drury won the Little League World Series?

I think Dolan will make Drury the assistant VP to the assistant VP thus making him earn more money and keep his Ranger cult status , so if need be they can coax him out of retirement at some future date.

  2. Let’s just say that Drury doesn’t have to worry about working for awhile… a long while.

  3. I’d venture a guess that Drury takes a year off and then turns up coaching somewhere. No way does this guy leave professional hockey altogether at 35. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up here. In fact, I’d be happy. He’d be a great addition to Gernander’s staff in Hartford.

I just read the NHL’s 30-in-30 report on the Rangers, and it seems like there are heightened expectations for the Rangers for once. Usually, the line is the same: They’ll struggle to make the playoffs. This year, they’re predicting the playoffs with no struggle. I hope they don’t let their heads grow big before they hit the ice. We need the same grit from last year to be that type of team.

  4. Wicky/Orr(from the last thread) – I’ve found the best two things for wait gain or loss are how you regulate your carbs. Now it’s been sometime since I made an honest effort at gaining wait(no need after you pass two bills), but I do remember trying to get up to my quoted playing weight of 165 by front-loading a bunch of garbage. It simply doesn’t work if your metabolism is off the charts. Try pasta. Lots of it. Don’t load it up with garbage though. You’ll regret it if your metabolism drops like mine did.

As for losing, I melted through 15 pounds(plus or minus) in about a month by reducing carb intake(not eliminating) and replacing what was usually a pretty unhealthy lunch with a large garden salad. I have one five days a week, with either a couple of bananas and/or some hard-boiled eggs with hot sauce. By large, I mean like half a head of romaine and a whole beefsteak tomato large. Then I eat whatever I want for dinner and on the weekends. I dropped 13 pounds in the first few weeks, and now hover between my low(197) and high(202). Five pounds is usually just what you carry in water wait. And my friend, let me tell you the results on the ice are noticeable! Goal output is up. No longer getting beat to the puck. Not sweating like a fat pig on the bench. I kind of slacked off this summer playing once a week. I can’t wait to get back to three games to see what I can do in better shape.

With all these proposed line changes i just thought of a new rule that i think should be implemented into the game. All five players that were on the ice when the penalty was committed (besides the player who will be going to the box) have to stay out on the ice for the beginning of the power play, just like if it were an icing. This way you wont have these 4th line players going around taking stupid penalties all the time and if they do, well im sure that would increase power play scoring.

Phil , I don’t want to sound like an infomercial but, I too play hockey and last year I did P90X for several cycles each cycle is 12 weeks, first cycle I lost 24 lbs.. I made a big improvement in my skating and endurance.. dieting and hockey aren’t enough for me I needed the off ice workouts.
I just did the Insanity workouts which are tougher than the P90X but I haven’t been on the ice to see the results..weight is the same but body fat is lower..more muscle mass is there .
We now resume regular programming Sorry carp

  11. >>The biggest loss for the Rangers is Chris Drury, who had the final year of his contract bought out
    >>this summer.

Carp, you should have told us this Dave Lozo fellow was a comedian.

  12. Carp

Don’t tell us that you didn’t know that Chris Drury was the winning pitcher at the little league world series years ago?

  13. Look, don’t get the idea that I’m anxious for this series to start, but…, just another game right? NOt this one – it’s an insight into what the Rangers will become in another few years.

  14. onecupin72yearsandcounting on

Does this mean that the Chris Drury fan club is no more and dues will be refunded forthwith ?

  15. Good morning all! Heading outside but first has to share this. From NYT story today:

“Drury’s ability to perform in the clutch was prefigured by his experience winning the Little League World Series with his hometown team in Trumbull, Conn.; he pitched the championship game and drove in two runs in a 5-2 victory over Taiwan.”

wicky, great song from last night :)

    See ya!

  16. Actually sad to see Drury retire.

And pissed off that he didn’t do it before the buyout of his contract.

And he could have saved some face and retired with more pride as the Rangers captain.

Maybe he should have looked into his options before accepting the buyout?

  17. fran, I promise I will try to get rosters with numbers for the Traverse tournament. also, I think we’ll do Go Time posts since the games will be televised.

  18. eddie eddie eddie on

Drury is looking to join the yankees – that is why he retired from the rangers…..Jeter will give him the C and take the A…..THE PRUST also played baseball……but the ball kept quitting because it didnt like being hit so hard

  19. onecup – I always tell myself I’m going to start working out, but the furthest I’ve gotten is buying a gym membership I never use and jogging five or six miles every other week. My body fat is definitely higher than it should be and a workout-diet regimen would probably help. But for now I’m happy to be back closer to where my body mass should be(still probably about five or six pounds over) and not getting winded like hell after a (slow)rush up the ice!

  20. eddie eddie eddie on

ricardo – i am on a huge beatle jag…..its all i play these days….join …no comercials, its free, and its 24/7….

  21. eddie eddie eddie on

i must have about a hundred favorite beatles songs…..but “the night before” is my current #1

  22. i saw the time-elapsed photos on like a freakin’ sci-fi movie. talked to Don Maloney about those recently.

  23. DDeb

Thanks for the effort, it;s pretty good lineup, and better than nothing, but I hope those announcers realize that we don’t know these kids by number and it wouldn’t hurt for them to tell us in during their marathon conversations about little and little more.

  24. eddie eddie eddie on

…tho, the thought of letting the world know when i am about to poop intrigues me

  25. I’m writing a diet book for couch potatoes.

    the title will be —-

“I Used to Have a Pot Belly. but That Is All Behind Me Now “

Talk about the Beatles , this afternoon I heard Lovely Rita Meter Maid Sgt Pepper album, brought me back to the summer of ’67 great year. Hendrix, the Doors , Love , richie havens and others all exploded for one of the best era’s in Rock.

  27. onecupin72yearsandcounting on

Phil you don’t need a gym membership , just a VCR DUH, DVD player a mat some weights and go !

  28. The sooner we can forget this guy was ever a New York Ranger, let alone a captain, the better. I’ve never hated a Ranger as much a this guy, please don’t bring this dead wood back into the system in any capacity.

  29. onecupin72yearsandcounting on

Rangers in 60 , starring Chris Drury and MSG top 100 performers Chris Drury ranks where ?
All propaganda right CCCP ? (cold war reference )

  30. Quite honestly I have never heard any stories regarding Drury’s captaincy. Have any of you because I was never impressed with him. I never thought he would equal his good season’s with Buffalo but who knew he would be so lousy. I knew Sather was paying way to much for a player of his ilk before playing a game in New York. I’m hoping Richards doesn’t resemble him in any way! I see a player who is much better in many ways. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. onecup lucky if he makes the top 200.

  31. CaRP

I don’t mean to get all whiny about this, but I just
thought that is might be possible. I am very comforted with the knowledge hat you will do what you can, and is there such a words as Pre thank you?

  34. Wicky (Leeloo Dallas mul-ti-pass) on

It’s ok, I just dress like one like the rest of the europansies

  35. The most annoying thing: When you think there are new posts to read and its just Wicky posting 17 times in a row like an idiot. Pro tip, nobody thinks its funny or cute and you should stop.

  36. Anyhoo…..Finally got around to reading 30/30 dealio. Can’t say I disagree with much, though of course I look forward to Carp’s thoughts when he can…

I mostly like/agree with this though:
“If the Rangers can avoid half the injuries they suffered last season, not only will they be a lock for the playoffs, but they’ll contend for the Atlantic Division. They have a solid group of young defensemen who showed improvement throughout last season and a world-class goaltender in Henrik Lundqvist there to cover up any mistakes.

Consistency from the offense will be key. If the Rangers have it, they could find themselves in the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2008.”

And I say say this, Stanley! :)
