One dog-days week down

Yep, a hockey fan’s worst month is in its seventh day already. I’m not too thrilled that the summer’s going by so quickly, especially since last winter seemed to last four or five years.

On the other hand, we’re getting closer and closer to puck-drop(s).

Starting to wonder what kind of venue issues there might be holding up the official announcements of the Winter Classic.

Had to make an executive decision last night. So we’re holding a special guest blog from our buddy Eddie, Eddie, Eddie — or E3 — until Monday morning. It’s worth the wait.

Here is Larry Brooks’ take on the whole Sean Avery debacle, from today’s Post.

About Author

  1. iDoodie machetto on

Brooks is so pro-Avery that even his attempt to scold avery’s actions comes off as an apology on his behalf, with, of course, a little jab at Torts.

    God I hate him.

  2. um, yeah, ilb, it was in my post on Friday morning … before Avery decided to become front-and-center. So it wasn’t really discussed.

    Good morning, Sally!

  3. Carp, I know exactly what you mean about last winter!! It felt brutally long…hopefully, we don’t have another Ice Age this winter….

I’m starting to seriously question if Avery even makes the team out of camp…there are too many promising youngsters who can make the team over him (Weise, Hagelin, Zucc)…and we signed Rupp…then there’s this latest news, too…

Tortles is going to have some tough decisions…

  4. From that ESPN article, interesting:

talk of “sophomore slumps,” the cliché is a myth, …rookies usually produced at a clip of .39 points per game…second-year players often produced around .45 points per game, an improvement of around 15 percent. _In fact, it’s the biggest jump in production players experience during their careers._

  5. bull dog line on

have the Rangers moved Stepan to left wing yet.
Avery is in his last season as a Ranger. if he is in the way of a young player, than he has to go. if not he stays, and plays the role of 4th line pest and sits in the press box sometimes.

  6. bull dog line on

Richards, Gabby, Boyle, AA, Stepan, Prust, Dubi, Cally, Rupp, Wolski, Fedotenko, Christensen, and Avery. that is 13 forwards. not sure I see room for a rookie or 2 this season.

  7. Interesting article (a hockey piece on ESPN quoting advanced stats?) and a million miles better than that thing on Puck Daddy last week, but I still don’t understand the shared premise that the Rangers are (or should be) loading up during a three-year window for success with the inevitability that they will be reduced to garbage after that three years.

  8. Good afternoon all! Belated kudosto Jon for yesterday’s guest post. Well done. I wish this “other” story would just go away. Sigh.

  9. I think it’s more a matter of the uncertainties progressively starting to mount, LW.

7 UFA + 2 RFA’s after this year: Prust, Wolski, Avery, Feds, EC, Eminger, Biron as well RFA’s MZA and MDZ

The following year, 4 probably key/core RFA’s : AA, Step, McD and Sauer

Then after the 13/14 season Gabby, Cally, Boyle, Rupp, Girardi and LQ become UFA’s

So, how effectively some of those players are replaced, how cost efficiently others are resigned and to what degree lower priced prospects step in will have a lot to do with ongoing success.

  10. bull dog line on

who is your 4th line center? I guess you are assuming that Rupp is going to play center. I think they may have a bigger role for Rupp than just 4ht line center.

  11. Wicky(grating PIBG)© (The she/it on our D is sofa king SOFT!!!) on

    morning ILB and all!

sorry about the absence yesterday (If you guys even noticed)!!

I commented on that article the other day asking if vtank (I think that is the article that listed him as a hulking farmhand) had put on more weight and got zippo response.

So the lack of black russian bread here is frustrating as hell, I think the mrs is about to go recipe hunting!!!

  12. bull dog, I want a balanced team…EC just doesn’t bring enough to table to justify a line up spot, IMO. I guess if the season started now, here are my lines:

Zuccarella-Weise-Prust spare: Woof or Avery (if he’s not banished to Europe)

I am not high on Wolski. It would be nice if he come out and plays like a first line LW, I just don’t see it happening (woof). Talent is there; head is not in the game. I have a feeling he’s going to be gone sooner or later…I’d like to see Stepan and MZA alternate ice time on the top LW spot…I think you need to balance their minutes, not sure either can handle 1st line minutes all season. I could also see Rupp and Prust alternating responsibilities….on the 3rd & 4th lines…

  13. Wicky(grating PIBG)© (The she/it on our D is sofa king SOFT!!!) on

problem is, you just can’t find it anywhere around here! Any brand! Everyone says the closest thing they have is pumpernickel!

That is why she is trying to find a recipe to make some!!

  14. My bad, Weise is not a center…I guess Rupp would be that guy…

You know Torts doesn’t roll all 4 lines anyway…Rupp will play in lots of situations, as will Feds, Boyle, Prust, Dubi, Cally etc…

  15. wicky

that Borodinsky bread is like pumpernickel but better. It has a sweet kind of taste to it and is great with anything! Give me your address…ill mail you some ;)

  16. dde

I understand that, but outside of some small-market / tanking / long-term rebuilding franchises (delete as appropriate), which teams *don’t* have a selection of key players scheduled to hit free agency at some point within three years?

If any of those players are still young and productive enough over that period, the Rangers would at least attempt to re-sign them.

I wouldn’t pretend the Rangers’ long-term outlook is a sure thing by any stretch, but the current team and solid group of prospects is young enough that I don’t think portraying them as a veteran-laden team that has a shot in the next three years but absolutely no shot beyond that makes sense.

But maybe I’m just scared of Sather and Dolan believing the hype and reverting to their previous destructive short-termism…

  17. Wicky(grating PIBG)© (The she/it on our D is sofa king SOFT!!!) on

I knew I wasn’t losing my mind about the rupp and beer incident..

One Pittsburgh Penguins fan has learned there really is no need to cry over spilled beer.Mike Rupp, a forward for the Penguins, hit the rink’s boards during warmups at a recent game, accidentally knocking over a fan’s beer on the other side. But rather than ignoring the trouble he caused, the NHL player apologized to the fan with a puck and some cash.
“Mike felt terrible about it, so he asked the trainer to grab $10 out of Rupp’s wallet,” Rupp’s agent Allan Walsh told the Toronto Sun.
“He then wrote an apology on a puck, signed it and taped the $10 bill around it. He went over to the glass, got the guy’s attention and tossed the puck over to him.”
The Toronto Sun reported that the fan smiled and gave Rupp a thumbs up after reading the puck’s note.

  18. Wicky(grating PIBG)© (The she/it on our D is sofa king SOFT!!!) on

I bet it is smooshed by the time it arrives!!

  19. That video will get Gregzzzzzzz pumped up, wicky. Just think what kind of frenzy the Blue Man Group, Ace Frehley or Coldplay will get the MSG crowd into at the home opener…

  20. Wicky(grating PIBG)© (The she/it on our D is sofa king SOFT!!!) on

LMFAO!! I wonder if the beach boys are available for the opener??

  21. They’ll probably have Gene Simmons wedding before puck drop, then the Anthem sung by Dee Snider.

Last year was just embarrassing. They desperately need to change the “win song”. That Coldplay song is annoying. I just can’t listen to it!

  22. LW- I hear what you’re are saying, but I don’t read it as the “the window slams shut” just because the next few years may provide a better than normal shot at winning.
I’ll add that if you believe you are ‘that close’, at some point a move that could sacrifice some ‘future’ for some ‘now’ might be made. It wouldn’t necessarily mean a “reverting to their previous destructive short-termism” per se. It would hopefully be a move that puts you over the top.
However, getting it right could be the difference between success or failure both short term and long. That’s why I think patience is key.

We’re probably getting a little ahead of ourselves anyway ..let’s make the playoffs 2 years in a row first. Lot’s of hard work yet to be done.

  23. I think they’re trying to pad Gabby’s stats showing the same goal 3 times in that video.

  24. Funny, the first comment under the Brooks article:

“Could this article be any more one sided, we get it Larry, you don’t like him.”

  25. lol ddebened

Even if you wanted to compare the two, you can’t :)

Infected Mushroom guys are masters of complex sound.

Coldplay is just another commercial band ;)

  26. Wild trade Sheppard to the Sharks for a 3rd round pick.

He was drafted ninth overall. He’s still pretty young, but he’s played three seasons, and put up crap numbers. Talk aboot a bust! Only 23 though. Maybe the proverbial change of scenery will do the trick.

  27. Actually, Boyle is somewhat similar. Sheppard played aboot 30+ more games than Boyle, and Boyle just had a breakout year. So, maybe it’s unfair to give up on him just yet.

But, then that would mean maybe it’s too soon to give up on Jessiman!!! Ruh roh!

  28. 3C Masters of complex sound but Amateur Hour when it comes to melody. ;)

Never heard of Voivod but their cover of Pink Floyd’s Astronomy Domine is pretty cool

  29. bull dog line on

wolski is not going to be a 3 million 4th line player. he is going to have to play on the top 2 lines, or not be there at all. since they did not buy him out, my guess is there looking to put him on one of the top 2 lines to find out about him. unless they whale Avery, Christensen, and Wolski, I still do not see room for a rookie forward this season. MZA, is probably still going to be on the outside looking in.

  30. ddebened

i strongly disagree with you! What you say is baseless since you are not familiar with IM. They define melody and complexity. Go and listen to some of their work… because you clearly haven’t yet.

    here… start from scratch ;)

  31. 3C I listened to Muse Breaks, most of Psycho and Deeply Disturbed before posting that.
I like DD the best :)

I’ll listen to your link now

  32. Muse Breaks is a rmx to a track by J.Views and somewhat not a typical Mushroom. Psycho is from their first studio album back in 1999 and has a dark sound. If you like Deeply Disturbed the best, then you should like that whole album. It has two sides. Innovative trance sound side and more mellow side, with some trippy sounds! The album is called “Converting Vegetarians” IMHO, their last true PsyTrance album. After that, they became a full band and have more of a electronic rock sound with psytrance roots.

Here is a little taste from that album’s “other side” :)

If this is not melodic, then i truly don’t know what is! Listen to the whole track

  33. lmao @ because you clearly haven’t yet.

Those last 2 were definitely the best.

I can only take so much of the throbbing 150 beats per min in the first 2 songs though, especially when you’re talking about a 10 minute song.
Even in the songs I like, with all the variations they have throughout a 10 minute song it’s like multiple songs in one.
You might have two 3 minutes segments that you enjoy wrapped around 3 minutes that you don’t care for as much.

In the beginning of Dancing with Kadafi, does a guy in the band play the guitar and what about the violin later. Is that done digitally?

  34. Evening all.

Summer sucks. Can it be winter yet?

The weekend of Sean Avery continues!

    NYRAnews NYRA News
Sean Avery pulls the upset and wins The Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap!

From jail to winning a stakes race? Aves is one busy man recently.

  35. As far as I know, all done digitally. Their last two albums “Vicious Delicious” and “Legend of the black shawarma” are done with addition of live guitars, drums and vocals.

I like high beats per minute. I grew up in that sort of scene. Seen IM more than 20 time all around te world. :)

Long tracks are good for a certain trippy moods, if you know what I mean ;)
