As expected, unrestricted free agent defenseman Steve Eminger has re-signed with the Rangers.
The deal is believed to be one year at approximately $800,000.
Here is the official announcement from the Rangers:
RANGERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH DEFENSEMAN STEVE EMINGER
New York, July 25, 2011 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenseman Steve Eminger on a new contract.
Eminger, 27, skated in 65 games with the Rangers last season, registering two goals and four assists, along with 22 penalty minutes. He made his Rangers debut in the season opener on October 9 at Buffalo, and tallied his first point as a Blueshirt with an assist in the home opener on October 15 vs. Toronto. Eminger ranked third on the team with 101 blocked shots. The Rangers posted a record of 4-1-1 when he tallied a point. The eight-year NHL veteran recorded one assist and posted a plus-three rating while skating in his 400th career NHL game on March 4 at Ottawa. Eminger notched his first goal as a Ranger on November 24 at Tampa Bay and posted a season-high, plus-four rating in an 8-2 win vs. Edmonton on November 14.
The 6-2, 203-pounder has skated in 411 career games with the Rangers, Anaheim Ducks, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals, registering 17 goals and 74 assists for 91 points, along with 323 penalty minutes. Eminger posted a career-high, plus-five rating, tying Anaheim’s franchise record for plus/minus rating in a single game, in a 5-2 win at Colorado on March 31, 2010. In 2008-09, Eminger established career-highs in games played (71), assists (21), points (26), power play goals (two) and shots on goal (85), and tied his career-high in goals (five) while splitting the season between Philadelphia, Tampa Bay and Florida. He tallied his first career NHL playoff point with a goal in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at Philadelphia on April 17, 2008. Eminger registered his first career NHL goal on October 10, 2005 vs. the Rangers. He made his NHL debut on October 11, 2002 vs. Nashville and recorded his first career point with an assist on October 10, 2002 at Toronto.
The Woodbridge, Ontario native was acquired by the Rangers from the Ducks in exchange for forwards Aaron Voros and Ryan Hillier on July 9, 2010. He was originally selected as Washington’s first round choice, 12th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

I rock!!
NYR
you on FB??
First btw and for a hattie!!
wow and a bag lady
sorry, wick. I just had to stop you.
I like Steve.
Wick – Yep, I have a FB…but I can’t access right now since I’m at the office…
Wow! Eminger played on tree different teams in 2008-09! He’s a keeper!!
No, but seriously, he played some pretty decent minutes for the Rangers as the 7th d-man. Glad he’s back for a bargain $...
Now we don’t need Doughty, because we have Eminger!
That’s “Mrs. Eminger” to you, Carp.
Hands to the chest!
good signing… very serviceable dman… and the price is right too.
Does this mean no Caber?!
We can pretty much guess Cally’s deal at this point. Can’t be long until he signs. There are so few options for his numbers now.
Good deal for all!
Like it. Discent, solid guy and well known by team already.
No Caber!
Callahan is greedy. he is not doing the right thing by the team. he should take whatever the Rangers are offering. some captain. Callblowahan.
Very smart signing. And he is still 27.
According to Waseka it is $800K——->
Happy to see Eminger back in the fold. Team is (almost) complete.
It would melt my heart if Callahan simply asked to have the same (or very similar) deal that his BFF Dubi got. But, not even I’m that naive. It is a business after all.
bull dog line,
what’s you beef with Cally? Or it’s friendly sarcasm?
Happy summer, boneheads! I haven’t chimed in for a while, but so far, I like this offseason. Good job signing Emmy – he knows exactly where he stands with this team and they gave him the correct amount of dollars.
Hey Carp! Thanks for all the updates and posts during the slow days.
Looking forward to October!
I would like to see Eminger be the 6th D-Man until Del Zotto proves himself. I think Eminger is a better player (defensively) than he got credit for last year.
bull dog line
i agree… some future captain this Callablowski! ;)
NYR
who are you on there, if I may ask? Are we Friends?
manny
sent you a FB msg!!
wicky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yea NYR- are we friends on fbook?
Emmy showed ability to play either side, was ready when called upon after sitting out, adds jam, nice price and could still get better – what not to like
CCCP mother-in-law, future = MILF
manny!!!!!!!!!!!
ilb, according to Carp, too. ^
I’m not FBook “friends” with any boneheads (that I know of)!
But, let’s make it happen! But, we’ll have to wait until later when I can access….no access in the office…
nyr
cool
With the Islanders looking at bringing back Yashin, I thought that a team couldn’t bring a player back that they bought out?
4ver,
it would be the latter.
Yeah, Carp, but who reads it? :-)
NYR Crazy- they can after one season….
good signing. team is young, growing , and improving.
they will make the playoffs and should be built to make a run. 2 premium offensive players and many 2nd and 3rd types. with a young and developing d. premium goalie and a good backup.
hopefully a hagelin, zucc, or thomas or another young skilled guy or guys can make the jump and really cintribute to the team.
only really mega bad contract on the table is dredden….
Eminger might have a great shot. I don’t know. He might have been teammates with Erskine.
This is no way for a future captain to act. Callahan-dling this poorly.
What a greedy bum.
ilb
So you’re saying the return of the Incredibile Holik to the Rangers is still a possibility then?
haha… i can’t even type that with a straight face.
Cally will be signed in due time…. and have a big ‘C’ on his chest come October!
Lungfist should get the “C” tattooed on himself, because he’s the real Captain of this team!
Thanks for reminding me, LW3H. That took care of my lunch…I can’t believe they were paying him $9M per season…..
well, if Holik had scored 50 goals like he was supposed to, it wouldn’t have been so bad.
Lundqvist could never ruin his looks. They help him get exposure for his restaurants
Does anyone remember what Holik told Barnaby about his own role on the team?
If Callahan were loyal to the Rangers, he’d already be signed by now. Trying to get more money than you’re be offered is greedy and selfish and sometimes I don’t even think he cares about me at all. Callahandout!
(being … whatever, its Monday)
Now that we all have heat stroke we can have the pool put in!
Mazel Tov, Mrs. Eminger. From my family to yours.
(This is a Wedding Crashers quote. I always say it on here and am getting the idea people think I am being serious…)
very stupid gift of gab. Callahan’s agent is in the midst of negotiating a deal for his client. That is how business gets done. Callahan is not a hold out
And Holik walked straight into a deal worth $4.75m per with the Thrashers too. Best paid 3rd liner in history? (Until B-Rich next year…)
by the time this season starts, B. Rich will be washed out!
Callahan wants to be compensated, end of story
ddebened
LOL @ MILF—- mother-in-law, future!
Callahan wants to cash in, end of story
Callahan needs to ca$h in. He has medical bills to pay for all those broken bones!
If Callahan were loyal, he’d just sign for whatever amount the Rangers offer. Its still like 40x what I make! I’d play hockey for free!
I want a “Lungfist” tattoo…
FYI – NHL.com’s shop is having a 15% off sale until 5 PM today…
“Best paid 3rd liner in history? (Until B-Rich next year…)”
I guess Drury was only a 4th liner last year.
Cally will play for free, or just for medical injuries insurance. Wearing jersey with his name – for bonus.
LOL! There’s a tab on NHL.com for “hidden gem” free agents and it pictures Dreary and Caber!!! Haha!
I guess “hidden gems” means that they are hidden because they are injured or invisible on the ice?
Sorry for impersonating and violating always copyrights.
The Russians are coming!
http://youtu.be/s79NpamUO2M
I’m already embarrassed!
True, Doodie. I was thinking more like career earnings. At least Drury used to be an overpaid 2nd liner. Holik was never anything more than a 3rd liner, realistically.
To be fair to the incredible Holik, he put up his career averages and got paid about 6 million more a season to do it. That’s quite impressive. Most guys just mail it in…haha
cccp,
It’s so-o-o bad and embarrasing, I wouldn’t even mention it on this blog, not worth it.
4everanger
yeah but people will see it once it hits TV networks anyway…
It makes no sense. From what I see, they’re all Jewish. I just hope these families represent their actual ethnicity unless they’re half breeds. Brighton Beach is a historical neighborhood for russian/ukranian JEWS and not Russians/Ukranians. Russian Jews made that neighborhood what it is today. No offense to any non-Jewish Russian folks on here.
Oh wow. Just when we thought reality shows couldn’t get any more ridiculous!
This is all insane. I hate to sound like an old man but….Seinfeld was a show about “nothing” but it was great and well thought out. Someone brilliant realized that for basically no cost you could film people’s lives and it would be of similar interest. It makes me nuts to watch this junk (even though I get absorbed into watching it regularly). I wish the only reality tv was SPORTS. Which are 100% real.
The Irish part of me takes great offense CCCP.
CCCPyou have done nothing but make me proud of my ancestry!always, i think you’re missing the sarcasm there.
I thought we were calling him Calla-hand-me the money?
I think we should call him “CA$h-in-hand”... at least once he signs.
Manny,
Same here. I always complain about how horrible most of the reality television crap is, but, you’ll find me watching Real Housewives of NJ on a Sunday night. It’s veryyyyyyy addictive (and in this particular case, hilarious considering I know some relatives of the cast). Especially when there’s no hockey on!
Callahan!
Bryan Calahann is a greedy bastage!! Trade his rights!
Amen, Latona. That is one of the one’s that I get stuck watching. I just stare in amazement. Why do they have so much money? That is my favorite thing to repeat.
I think he needs to be stripped of captaincy! Remove the C from his sweater right now. Oh wait….
off…
If I were ever able to blow 50K on a Christmas party, well, I probably wouldn’t.
I think Callahan will be signed before arbitration. I think ilb is the one who said a year longer than Dubinsky for the same/almost the same annual, and I think that’s fair and realistic.
It’s funny how everybody killed dubi, which I might add I could not understand and it pissed me off but I wasn’t going to get into it on a blog but now Callahan is asking for the sky. I myself has been a huge Dubi fan. Don’t get me wrong, I like Callahan also but not if he is going to want allot more money than what dubi got, if that is the case than goodbye calli. Callahan works hard, hits, hence the reason why he never plays a full season. Callahan’s body isn’t big enough to play that type of game consistently and Callahan can’t stick handle to save his life and not extremely talented in shooting either. Callahan shouldn’t get much more than what dubi got, I’m sorry but I tell it the way i see it.
Really starting to like the look of this team going into camp. Other than our power play I don’t have too many big concerns. It’s going to be a dog fight for the top 6 spots on the blueline. After Staal and Girardi nothing is guaranteed
McDonagh, Sauer, Del Zotto, Eminger, Valentenko, Erixon, Pashnin, Kundratek, Niemi..
Lol, tomg, we are all kidding around here….
I would really hope the 2nd pair is all but guaranteed.
Right on Latona – that is my reasoning for why I should be able to win Powerball. I wouldn’t become a jerk and change my entire life. I would just be less anxiety riddled.
oh and I forgot Heikkinen..
sorry, rough day!! It felt good though.
yeah, I think McDonagh and Sauer would have to have a pretty lousy camp to not be assured of being in the top six, if not the top four.
latona
not on FB?
I really think one of those two guys is going to end up in the top D-Pairing at some point this year. Hopefully not because of an injury to our #1 Goalie, Girardi.
alright
something to take our minds
away from the Cally talk
an interesting, but skeletal reporting,
on flyers troubles with carter/richards
....just something
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Unnamed-Flyers-blame-Dry-Island-partying-for-?urn=nhl-wp9667&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Negative, wick. Although I know you are probably dying on the inside, waiting for me to sign up so that I can be your number one friend.
jpg, saw that about the Flys. Very interesting.
That’s been a rumor for a while now….Still not sure it’s the right way to deal with it…
I know reports from overseas are always iffy but this one from Sweden is saying Rangers looking to move Zuccarello: http://www.nyrangersblog.com/2011-articles/july/rangers-looking-to-move-zuccarello.html
Oh no….the hobbit wizard? Can they move him back to New Zealand so he can at least visit Mordor?
Long Live the Hobbit Wizard for he is Lord of the Rink
There is also a rumor all over the internet that Carter had an alleged affair with Hartnell’s wife. It’s like that’s something the Flyers would confirm….I doubt it, though…
But, hey, it’s happened before in hockey….You guys know the story of Craig Janney and Brendan Shanahan when they played on the Blues together?
It?s not like that?s something the Flyers would confirm
Affairs in hockey? Uncle Daddy?
Two Yankees pitchers swapped wives….stuff happens!
Thinks about Major League…Roger Dorn…..eh?
Heard from a good source the Hartnell’s wife thing isn’t true. Bad divorce, but Carter not involved.
“You guys know the story of Craig Janney and Brendan Shanahan when they played on the Blues together?”
And Ryne Sandberg’s wife and lots and lots of teammates.
I also read that the rangers were looking to move Zuccarello a few weeks ago and it was on a USA internet site, don’t remember which one.
haven’t heard the whole story in regards to
their partying ways vs. success.
don’t have individual stats in front of me
so
i don’t know if they plummeted
of course flyers didn’t drink from the Cup
so it gives ‘em an excuse to blame on these two.
always right definately missed the sarcasm earlier. The moniker should be modified to ‘sometimes right’ !
Quit trying to put a positive spin on Callahan’s contentious situation ‘always right’, let’s see it for what it is, a ‘me first’ cash grab, for a guy who’s small, can’t hit, and doesn’t sacrifice for the team. I know what the ‘A’ on the front of his jersey stands for… and it’s not associated with alternatively being an assistant of any kind.
Let me know if that sarcasm came through!
Doesn’t surprise me Hartnell’s wife left him, he is a prick on the ice and probably off the ice, can’t stand the prick, actually I can’t stand the flyers. I grew up watching the 70’s flyers, talk about getting away with assaults, it was ridiculous what the flyers in the 70’s got away with on the ice.
Most of the Zuccarello “trade rumors” I’ve read are written by Rangers fans that think he hasn’t show enough to be a capable NHL’er and/or he is too small for success in the the physically demanding NHL….
These patient fans should be scouts for the NHL…
Caber!!!!
Meh. For a decent offer, I’m more than happy to move MZA and let someone else see if he can overcome being little.
I don’t think we will get anything in return for the hobbit wizard that will be playing on the ice this season….at least not the ice at the Garden.
Yeah! Crapinger signs.
Big wup!
If we trade the hobbit wizard to Edmonton, they could have the hyphenated line!
Zuccarello-Aasen, Nugent-Hopkinsm Paajarvi-Svensson
Bam!
Hopkins, ^
LOL! Clever, Latona…
I think Paajarvi dropped the Svensson, but oh well.
He’d have to take it back.
I’d be pissed if EC plays for NYR, and we trade MZA.
Tomg, how do you know Callahan is “asking for the sky”? It’s pretty obvious he’s going to get a contract similar to Dubi’s, maybe longer, maybe a year shorter. I’m not worried aboot this.
You can’t compare what he’s doing now, to what Dubi did two years ago. Two totally different situations.
We should have traded Bryan Calahann after 42 games, as well. He is too small for prime-time!!
Aren’t the Rangers owned by Cabervision?
Flyers story everyone knew about for the last few years. They partied to hard and when Pronger was the one to confront Richards about it and tried to help him gain control of the locker room, Richards wanted no part of it so Pronger stopped speaking to him. Carter wasn’t a fan of Prongers either.
Probably the only time I’d ever side with Pronger on any dispute since he was actually right.
LOL! Too small for prime time.
latona
damn, you are on to me
That’s pretty impressive Latona.
Maybe we can trade Callahan for Dubinsky…STRAIGHT UP!
or better yet…in a package?!
Callaman, Dubinky, MZA, and a 2nd round pick for Jason Spezza and Bryan Murray’s lisp!
Make it happen, Slats!
Make it one of those USPS boxes. If it fits, it ships.
Flat Rate Trades!
No to caber, yes to Ray oh root so Lennon
Caber 2012!
Delivered straight to your door, daily. And you don’t even have to tip the postal worker, because there’s a trade freeze around the holidays!
Maybe the Islanders will trade him for Yashin? Straight up? I’m sure they would be willing to pay his salary too….Twice.
Only issue is that the Postal Service seems to be slowly collapsing like Flan in the cupboard.
i am all for sending down mza this year. at 5 on 5 he still has a lot to learn. i wouldnt trade him but would give him more time playing for the whale.
like the eminger signing for 800k. last year he made 1.1. i would have him in top 6 on opening night.
USPS is the WORST company in the world!
If they keep MZA down in Hartford for most of the year there’s very little reason to think he’ll want to come back to the Rangers after his contract is done.
Amen, Eric. I think Eminger is in the top 6 until someone proves themselves.
I’m all for being patient with MZA, but my only concern is that he doesn’t pull a Ilkka Heikkinen on us, and bail if he doesn’t get a shot with the team.
There were a lot of rumors last season aboot him when he started in the AHL. Apparently he was unhappy. Can’t trust Euro pansy sources though.
I’m not expecting much from him though. He has talent, he’s a good playmaker, doesn’t have a great shot, a bit feisty, etc, but I don’t see him being a major contributor to the team, but he’s useful.
V-Tank vs Erixon! Euro pansy deluxe! Who will win?
V-Tank vs Erixon vs Pashnin…that would be like the padded screen match.
Oh, and don’t forget Jared Nightingale! He’s the real deal!
So in a sort of related story, the NFL and NFLPA just agreed to a new CBA. The salary cap for this year is going to be less than what the cap was in 2009.
Something tells me this isn’t going to bode well for the NHL when their CBA expires after this season. And just for reference purposes:
Current salary floor = $48.3mn
Salary cap 05-06 (first year after the lockout) = $39mn
Over/under on how many times we’re going to here the term “rollback” mentioned in CBA negotiations?
That’s exactly my concern, too, Orr…But, I think he wants to play in the NHL. He admitted that Hartford was a huge help to adapting to the North American ice and style of play…He had a good attitude and could have been a Europansy about it…
I just think deserves another shot to make the team with NHL experience under his belt, before he’s pencilled in the as the top RW on the Whale…
I’d like to see him improve his overall game and earn more responsibility…we’ll see…
LOL! I remember this time last year, everyone was debating whether he should play on the top line, or the second line. Now, nobody is expecting much from him. Bwaha!
I’ve been right aboot him all along! I like the guy, but everyone made him out to be a potential superstar, when we signed him. He has talent, but he’ll never be more than a 3rd liner, in my opinion. If he had some size, he’d obviously be much better.
The hobbit wizard won us over with his wizardry in the skillz competition. But alas, he has been brought down to reality.
I don’t think he’s that far off from being a 1st or 2nd line player…that’s why I don’t want to see him go…
I don’t think size is a factor…his skating/strength is the issue….he needs to be stronger on his skates…
You all could get off the MZA bandwagon! I’m still on for the ride!!!
He could be a first liner/second liner on this team, but not on many others, excluding the garbage teams that experiment more than Amy Winehouse.
Oops! Too soon?
Right on, NYR. He just needs to learn to use his low center of gravity.
I believe people were defending him with five syllables….Martin St. Louis.
St Louis doesn’t have 100% Euro Pansy blood flowing through his veins, so it’s unfair to compare MZA to him.
“Brighton Beach is a historical neighborhood for russian/ukranian JEWS and not Russians/Ukranians. Russian Jews made that neighborhood what it is today. No offense to any non-Jewish Russian folks on here.”
My Irish side is offended, too!! ;D
I’m not sure what you’re saying, 3C – that the people that are in this unfortunate show aren’t real Russians/Ukranians? Does their religious background (even if they are completely non-observant) make that much of a difference?
I’m certainly not disputing what you said, because I don’t know anything about the subject. I’m just trying to learn here.
I am ok with this signing if this journeyman hack is our 11th defenseman.
I think a better comparison would be Pat Verbeek…(The Little Ball fo Hate)
MZA is a lot more fesity than St. Louis….Wizard isn’t winning a Lady Byng…ever.
of*
I know which team is going to win the Superbowl, this coming season, but if I reveal it here my legion of friends here will abandon me. Let’s just say it’s a team after my own heart, located east of Pittsburgh.
I don’t care who wins the Superbowl. I just hope it’s not that dog killer cooke suckeror the rapist who managed to convince some chick to marry him, among others.
The Bills are winning the super bowl?
I hope the New York Rangers win the superbowl!
MZA is so inconsistent! Too small, can’t skate, can’t stay on he skates, can’t really score and sucked on PP and SO (after attempting the same move for 7 million times) and he is DEFINITELY making way too much money! get rid of him! Package him and EC for Kyle Okposo.
http://puckcentral.blogspot.com/2011/07/rumor-is-zuccarello-being-shopped.html?spref=tw
The world inconsistent is only used once in this article. But I think we’d agree that it’s aptly applied in this case.
CT, hope I’m retired and sitting on the porch when the next lockout comes … doubt if very highly, though.
as for Zuccarello, the little Italian kid, I don’t think even the Rangers scouts/coaches/front office people know what he’s going to be yet. But, of course, lots of people have already figured it out here.
TRADE EVERYONE!
too soon?
and what the hell could they possibly get for Christensen or Wolski?
Thank you, Carp.
See Carp… if the Rangers scouts/coaches/front office people visit this blog more often, then they would have a clue as to what kind of players they have! Because here, at the Rangers Report, we figure players out!
Defending the Rangers Report – We’ll figure YOU out!
agree CCCP,
I feel the same way about Erixon, VTank, and Pashnin. they are all to small, to slow, and fall down too much.
Carp,
Wolski probably has some value. maybe to a team looking to get to the salary cap floor. I want the Rangers to give him a long look this year before giving up on him.
but what could they get in return?
So whats the big deal about moving Zuccarillo,so move him.Who we gonna get for him Mike Flutoge? That’s my point,”who the F is that” ?
If I was to ask any of you to name the top ten Ranger’s how many lists will Zuccarillo make? Who ever we get isn’t gonna make the team anyway.
carp – do not underestimate what ec could fetch on the open market…..great 8 hour, 150 move game at Dortmund…G. Meier-H. Nakamura 1/2-1/2 King’s Indian Classical (Be2) variation
Carp,
So you’re saying that you think the fear of another lockout will force both sides to cut a deal? I hope that’s the case. Still, the fact that the salary floor is above what the original cap was is going to be one of the things the owners are going to want to see changed. And maybe the concession won’t come in the form of aggressive rollbacks, but the a difference in the distribution of revenues between the owners and the players.
I mean you’d agree that the NFL is a much better run league than the NHL (the moral upstanding of some of the players notwithstanding)? If they’re lowering the cap, what does that say for the NHL? Obviously a new TV deal and better TV ratings in recent years can help justify some of the cap increases, but there are some pretty weak franchises in the league that would probably impose stricter austerity measures that would push their team below the current salary floor if given the chance.
LOL! Zuccarillo!
I don’t think MZA will ever amount to much….its not personal, Sonny…it’s business…
Maybe we could get a 7th for EC.
I think we could get something for Wolski. Malone will be out a few months for Tampa, maybe they’d be interested in Wolski. Different style players, but he could add some offense, potentially.
Maybe!
Weekes had sushi! But the music was stupid!
I like eel
By the way, EC’s nickname is “Crusher”, apparently.
LOL!
if there’s a chance to get something of value for either one of them, they should just do it NOW … but I honestly doubt they could. One of the two will be a fourth-liner/prucha most nights. Maybe both.
CT, both of the last two work stoppages looked like clear-cut victories for the owners (remember cost-certainty? well the cap has done nothing but bring the floor way up, and increase spending by teams that couldn’t afford to spend half of what the floor is) and yet the cap and salaries continue to go up and up, and teams continue to go belly-up … and each of the last two CBAs in retrospect have turned out to be, in fact, victories for the players and losses for the owners (by and large).
yes, The Crusher.
I don’t eat sea food, but I might have had shark once.
LOL! I remember I heard someone call him that! Haha!!
Google “the crusher and Bugs Bunny” if you don’t know who “The Crusher” is.
“and what the hell could they possibly get for Christensen or Wolski?”
The Habs would probably give us back Blowmez for EC!!! But they won’t assume half of his salary, though!
Jesse Spector does a great impression of the P.A. guy introducing The Crusher at ringside, and it cracks him up every time he hears or says “The Crusher.”
so did we name the weekes—-> yet?
If you trade wolski (still think he should get a shot with the top line) and get anything back, it is better than buying him out for what ever amount and having any type of cap hit for him or losing him for nothing at the end of the year IMHO!!
No point of buying him out. Try him on the top line, if he doesn’t work out, he plays somewhere else. If he sucks, don’t play him, then he’s off the books when the season’s over.
Not sure changing MZA’s stick size did any good to his game….
Wolski isn’t of any value to a team that’s is trying to reach the floor- his salary is more than his cap hit.
Also, I don’t see any compelling reasons to move/trade/buy out any of them- the team doesn’t have any cap issues. Wait and see what they’ve got. They can be moved/Reddened after the camp.
is hartnell still with the flyers?
I agree with orr, I’d try to move EC for a 7th or anything
my 2 cents
Quite honestly , based on what I read about MZA and my few Swedish friends impression, last year, I expected probably, nothing short of miracle, when comes to talent level and supposed mature St.Louis’s skill set type. I thought that this alone much stronger will influence Rangers offensive abilities. Never happened. Disappointed? No. He was OK, but not spectacular. Just my never dying beforeseason’s hopes and expectations, as most of the time were too high and premature. And when it comes to pure natural level of talent, there is not such a thing as a “probable potential”, it either is or not. You don’t buy it or develop. So, I’m fine with him parting ways with Rangers.BTW, have to admit, ORR was right about MZA before last season in his posts, however for different reason (like he is too small for NHL).
Totally different picture is with Wolski. There is undoubted talent; it’s only the matter of interlace his game and ability in fabric of team system and concept. That’s coaching task – great material is here. It would be a HUGE mistake IMO, if he will be moved from team in any combo- buyout or trade, without trying this season. Team will most definitely has a different games pattern, than last season and he can be a very creative and productive part of it. (Coming on the move in the middle of season after 2 quick stops in the 2 different teams before, he understandably looked lost sometimes last season). So, there is very little risk, but reward could be potentially huge, if everything clicks. If not, he can always be shipped or bought out at February deadline.
do WE give the 7th and ec to some team and nothing back?......pull the trigger on that one….
i wish we could get erskine. ;) right orr?
ec probaly gsinglehandedly got us 6 or 7 extra points last year in shootouts. the guy makes peanutsand scores morethan aves and prust. ok ok he is very inconsistent, but when it comes to game 82 and if, we gt to a freggin shootout like in 09, i’ll be damn happy to have ec on teh team for an almost garaunteed goal every time. and he makes a lot less than wusski. he scored as much or almost as much as wusski did lat year anywa. why dump him? dump cally. hes the greed one.
4everranger- that was more a dollar fifty bro. jeez 2 cents? my assen
im having technical difficulties here. bear with me.
Like Carp said, I don’t think we’ve seen enough of MZA to make a call either way…I think the problem was that NYR fans expected him to be a superstar right out of camp!
42 NHL games is a walk in the park…he’s still a baby…
He’s only 23 and it won’t hurt to hang on to him….he has potential, he’s not a bust…yet!!!
If I read one more thing about Zuke being traded, bought out, or skipping camp to go to Europe, I’m gonna flip a bryzgalov!!!
We could really use his great shot, Grabby.
As for the shootout. We need to stop relying on it, to get us points.
Sorry, Grabby. It still just $1.25 according Carp’s menu, to be precise.lol.
Craig Janney….the golden boy of Enfield CT…my son used to play against him and Leetch in pick ups, when they were home from school and wanted to keep their legs in. I asked my son what he thought of them and he said that he thought that he was as good as Janney, but said Leetch was in a class by himself. ( My son was offered by the North Stars to join their jr team in Oregon , the Winterhawks,) but hockey was just fun to him and he had no fire in the belly for the game. Too interested in outdoor stuff hunting and fishing…but he could have been a great player if he had the attitude for it. Ask Mike Milbury what he thought of Janney.
Boo, the Champs a bum. I could beat him with both arms tied behind my back!
Carp,
I think you could probably get a mid round draft pick for Wolski. I think that is a better option than buying him out. if MZA is not going to be on one of the top lines, I do no think it makes sense to keep him around. I think he has NHL skill. if his skating was just a little better I think they would have something.
just for fun here is what I would like the lineup to look like opening night.
Dubi, Richards, Gabby.
Wolski, Stepan, Cally.
AA, Boyle, Fedotenko
Avery, Rupp, Prust,
Staal, Girardi,
MCd, Sauer.
MDZ, Erixon, Emminger.
I like the look of my 4th line. could be mean and nasty. they could play against any other line. would not have to just be matched up against other 4th lines.
CT – the difference between the NHL and the NFL is that the NHL has a great relationship with the NHLPA. This was expected that the cap would come up this much because it’s based on a healthy percentage of revenue that the players get. The NHL actually has mostly healthy teams outside of the few that we know about (and one just moved).
The NBA on the other hand has 23 out of 30 owners losing money. That’s why they are having a lockout. I think the NHL owners and players realize this system is working and will probably try to make some tweaks around contract length and things like that. But it won’t be a huge problem.
more likely it will be:
WW – BRich – Gabby
Duby – AA – Cally
Fedot – Rupp – MZA
Avery – Boyle – Prust
Staal, Girardi,
MCd, Sauer.
Erixon, Emminger
bulldog- i like ya man. my roller hockey team was named bulldogs. plus u like dubi, like me. but wheres ec in your lineup? im sorry, but unless were getting john “the shot” erskine in a trade for him, hes on the freakinteam!! got it!!!??/ yea, thats what i thunk!
4ever,
you left out Stepan. where do you want to put him.
sorry Grabby,
I would put EC centering the 1st line, and playing the point on the PP.
The biggest success of Great Red Army and United Soviet teams was attributed to concept of playing constant lines, which played for years with each other, with intuitive interoperation between them. Ideal hockey ABC, right? So, you don’t want to ruin rapport, achieved in lines like Duby-AA-Cally or even Boyle-Prust bond. Playing them is like voucher of stability. All other new combinations is derivatives of professionalism and good (or bad) luck.
Since Step-On is not in the lineup, he can be assistant to the GM’s assistants assistant. That might be Messier.
bull dog, sorry technical mistake..
here we go again with the lines …
I wouldn’t break up Dubinsky-Anisimov-Callahan. I wouldn’t let Woof, I mean, Wolski, anywhere near the top line. I would use Stepan there. And I doubt very much that Tortorella will break up Boyle and Prust, using either Fedotenko or Rupp or Avery there.
And I wouldn’t buy out Woof, I mean, Wolski, when I could just Redden him and take him off the books completely.
Did youse know that Martin St. Louis lives in Greenwich in the off-season? And that he and Matt Moulson did a hockey school at Stamford Twin Rinks?
sorry Carp,
I was by myself for a while here, I did not think you would notice.
ec could score 50…..plus, he is dapper
Fran – your son could play,,,,,impressive stuff…
3rd line should be: Fedot-Stepan-Rupp. MZA was fired before.
So the Step-child would be the associate alternate assistant to the assistant to the assistant GM?
carp – i never met marty st louis, marty st louis is not a friend of mine, i never worked with marty st. louis….and carp….....marty st. louis is no mza…...
.caber?
hmmm, that is a nice title…...
Speaking about hockey schools. Do you know that Gabby have his own Sport Complex in his native Trencin, Slovakia. ...and he did it without B.A. degree, so his management team there is: his Mom – Silvia, his Dad – Pavol (spelled right) and his Bro – Branislav. Facility is very successful – a lot of KHL teams use it for of season training. Just for useless info.
is this thing on?
Dunno… Looked like remote country cemetery before storm.
Birds are not singing…Strange… Au-u-u!!
I’m considering calling Step-On “Stephan” for the upcoming season. So many NYR fans think that’s how his name’s spelled, so it seems appropriate.
Carp? Are we alone? Mano + Mano. Technical brakedown?
ORR, you’re Da saviour!
Stepan-Stephan, what is he good for?
I’m good for a useless hattrick
OK, I got it. People are exhausted after this heat wave and start crystallize their melted brains.
Stefan? Stephane? Stephon (Marbury)?
Good, that I don’t have any. Helps.
Still can’t beat Wicky for frequency of sequence posts and probably never will, thank you…
LMAO! Stephan! Good idea, Orr… And, I noticed you called Dubi, “Dubinky” earlier…haha!
Carp,
Did anyone like Laurell or ilb. himself sent you censored pictures from gathering? I should do it myself and send it directly to you, but didn’t dare.
I feel like everyone already has it already penciled in their brains that Gabby and Richards will be on the top line together. But why? Gaborik scored 42 goals the season before last playing with E.C. and Prospal. Then plagued by injuries and heightened expectations he faltered. I think that something along the lines of Wolsi-EC-Gaborik, Dubinsky-Richards-Callahan would work out much better. This way we are spreading out the talent. Richards makes everyone else around him better and it shouldn’t be difficult to believe that both Dubi and Cally could score 30 goals each on a line with Richards, if they stay healthy.
For the sake of linguistic science, Dubinky – make no sense, because in russian it’s plural for Dubinka, which is baton. (etymology of this word is something, like small baseball bat, made out of oak-(dub in russian)
Or perhaps, Stepan-EC-Gaborik? Wolski-AA-Rupp?
Spread is not necessary, True. First line has to be absolutely dominant not only for production, but taken “defensive fire” on them self, making other lines more productive, giving them chances. All tactics and coaching “shuffling” is based on it. Besides, as I mentioned before, you don’t want to ruin already built chemistry of your existing lines.
Knowing Torts appetite and passionate love for countless line combination you can be absolutely sure he will do it for us and we will see “no rocks not being turned around” any possible (and impossible) combinations. So, chances are you will see yours too.
Hoo rah!
It’s a good point 4ever. Torts loves to play with line combinations. We wil probably see infinite numbers of lines over the season and a few “mainstays” that start the games for a stretch and are then moved back to the 4th line.
Everyone has an argument and splitting up Gabby n Richards would probably work out but im of the belief of having ur true 1st line be dominating…..Those two will play off each other so well and whoever is on their LW will def benefit like an Alex Burrows does playing with the Sedins…...(hopefully Avery gets the chance and makes the most of it cuz hes got all the tools for it) and that’ll leave the homegrown line to do its thing and they’ll all be a year older n wiser and better imo. But to me the real key for the Rangers having success this year is the 3rd line. If Fedetenko/Stepan/Zuccarello or Wolski or EC or whatever the combination will be can produce somewhat regularly then it’s gonna be a great season…....idk thats my thought on it
oh and good signing of Eminger…......reliable 7th d-man in the wings just in case any of our young D are going thru a rough patch and its gonna happen…....
Also – we have so many D-Men we might be able to renew my plan to use 5 D-Men at once at all times. Never let up a goal!
trade them all.
did we get stamkos yet.?
i agree with ilb
hold on to them all for now. but if we need to move salary mza goes down to the whale
So can EC, eric. And WW.
g-NY-R- I believe Torts will leave Richards-Gaborik combo as long as he can tolerate it. They will really have to prove they can not play together. The L wing- is another story…
LOL, I guess it’s true:

L. Brooks’ Slap Shots Blog is apparently very popular:

I think David had more hits on his blog….before Mets improved to 5-12, that is.
ilb
where the pictures. i want to put faces to some of the names
4ever
thank for recognizing true greatness, no applause necessary just throw money!
eric- I think they will appear on FB as soon as mama is done censoring ‘em…
or should I say true GRATEness??
giantsNYrangers,
you had me with your name, then you lost me with Avery.
I willing to bet MZA (if he’s not traded by then) has a monster pre-season on that Europansy ice!

How many games until Orr starts calling him Suckarello-Assen?
Bwhaaha!!!
wicky (Give Prust the “C”) July 26th, 2010 at 10:44 am
I still think they need to add some grit on the blueline!
Things haven’t changed much around here:
ORR! Bring The Amberlamps July 26th, 2010 at 12:33 pm
“How many games until Orr starts calling him Suckarello-Assen?”
I wont call him names, because unlike every NYR fan, I’m not expecting anything from this kid.
Everyone is ready to call him Gabby’s wingman, but I’m not buying any of the hype until he plays a month or two.
And I have no expectations for him. I’ll call him Suckarello if he plays like a poos.
Avery! Give him the “C”!
nyr
archive keeper
LOL!! I went back to read!! I was curious!!
CCCP July 26th, 2010 at 3:14 pm
let’s hope he’s the next Tampa Bay Marty St Louis and not the Calgary Marty St Louis :)
Yeah things haven’t changed much, indeed
Wicky July 26th, 2010 at 6:8pm
Jagr sucks

Oh, tricky Wicky…dominant like 1st line or big crease-clearing nasty D-man.
Brandon Dubinsky or Jordan Staal?
LOL! I love reading what we all posted in the past. Always funny material!!
Bring the amberlamps! Haha, I forgot aboot that!
Just in case anyone forgot, here’s the EPIC video!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDQyae9v1VA
I must have missed the memo – who or what is a “bag lady”, as described on the Boneheads blog?
hey bull dog…......Avery has shown in the past that he can score, we know he can forecheck and cycle and grind it out in the corners…......why wouldnt it work? Who would u put on LW thats a better option….....?
Bwahahah! That whole situation in the vid is byfuglied’d up. I remember watching that with my friend last year!!
byfuglien’d
giantsNYrangers – Avery couldn’t find the net at all really last year. We need someone who can score on that top line. What makes you think he can turn it around this year?
jimbo
mama (aka the bag lady) always says TA to indicate she is done posting for the day, but then usually posts several more times (each time being officially know as a laurel). 4 laurels subsequently becomes a bag lady (a song that was the topic of the day that particular day)!
That chick in the purple jeans is pretty cute. Nobody knew her name, so they dubbed her “Amberlamps”
She has a lot of tribute vids made by creepy guys! LOL! It’s all material from that fight. Funny!
We need a guy who can put the puck in the net on that top line, and that sure as hell is not Avery.
Classic video!
“I’m gonna put my foot up your assen! Bring the amber lamps!”
Mama is the bag lady!? That doesn’t sound very complimentary….but thank you, Wicky! – These rules are pretty complicated. There should be a “newbies manual” or something for us to study! ;)
I didn’t even know that there was a “bag lady” song…...maybe I’m too “out of the mainstream” to hang out here!
giantsNYrangers
Little word of advice for you from someone who’s been around this blog…there are many people on here (I won’t name them [bull dog line, NYR_FAN, ORR, wicky and such]) who don’t think Avery is valuable to this team. So…I would suggest you pick a different topic because you ain’t winning this one lol
CC, you can’t put me in the same category as Bull Dog. He apparently hates him because people like him! LOL!
I don’t hate Avery, I just don’t expect as much from him that a lot of NYR fans do.
ORR
I know you don’t hate Avery…but I know you don’t think very much of him ;)
Plus, I had to beef up that list to sound legit :P
Yeah, my name definitely beefs up a list!
I don’t hate Avery, either. I can’t wait to watch Avery on 24/7!! Pure entertainment! He’ll be useful! Otherwise, he’ll fit right in on the 4th line!!
I don’t mind him on the 3rd/4th line. I’m just sick of people blaming his lack of ice time, Torts, etc, for Avery’s lack of production.
301 Spartan
Avery for caprain
I don’t hate avery either, I just think his fist tenure, he made a big difference, not so much now! Still like what he brings physically, just not burying the puck!
first, not fist
hattie!!!!!
and a bag lady!!!!!!!!!!!!!
captain*
I am sooooo awesome!!
wick – you are sofa king awesome
A2E3
thanks bro
You on FB??
Avery for this blog is like raising a debt ceiling for Washington – divisive and bad either way. Better don’t touch, in a fear to become public enemy or at least Blogmama’s shooting target.
Good night, boneheads. Save some space between bones for tomorrow, will ya.
Funny…I never said you guys hate Avery but you automatically assumed it because that’s a normal thing…to hate Avery :)
I don’t have word hate in my vocabulary…so?
I’m talking too much today, time for humble shut up, kids. Have a good one…
