Rangers and Drew Doughty? Not happening. Here’s why

Kevin Allen wrote this column for USA Today about restricted free agents and offer sheets.

He talks about the few offer sheets in recent history, and why they’ve succeeded, why (mostly) they’ve failed, and why nobody does it. Interesting read.

This will (probably) be my last plea for youse to “like” the LoHud and Rangers Report Facebook pages.

If you can, thank you. If you have, thank you. If not, thank you anyway.

The LoHud Facebook page.

And the Rangers Report Facebook page.

  1. Good morning All.
Drew Doughty – just what we need, a young defenceman (although i admit he’s more offensive minded than most of ours – with the possible exception of MDelZ).

  2. I don’t think there was anybody here that thought Drew Doughty was a possible acquisition. At least I didn’t see any posts that thought signing him to an offer sheet was going to or even should happen.

The team really needs to figure out which of the young d-men can play in this league. If they find out that Del Zotto, Valentenko, Pashnin, etc. have it then going after a restricted FA would be a waste of resources.

  3. I liked those pages AGES ago, Carp.

I like Doughty but we have a bit of a logjam at Defense as it is.

  4. But Doughty is MUCH better than all of them. If this was plausible, you do it and clear the space you have to. However, there is no chance of it happening so it’s not even worth discussing the whos and hows of it.

That’s like saying the Yankees wouldn’t go after a Halladay if he was available because they have all these pitchers in the minors.

  5. carp- i also went to those 2 sites to “like” them, but had already done so awhile ago i guess. cuz i cant remember that i even did it. anyway, im trying to recruit some fans here. and im always telling my family to check it out, especially my supposed huge ranger fan sister. well, since we moved out of ny, and she cant go to the garden anymore, shes lost her ranger fanaticism. i think she reads here once in awhile though.

OK, wow, I miss one day ONE DAY and well the numbers are down, sorry carp!

    Morning ILB and all!!

You and the mrs are the best, THE BEST!!!!!

Speaking of bruce lee (yesterday) didn’t they make some parody of enter the dragon in like the 80s or something with some guy named bruce leroy??

pashnin signed, sweeet…I really hope he makes the roster, we could used his hitting!!

  7. ilb- i know we have 5-6 mill. how are we going to even sign a vet d man and cally?. maybe eminger for a mill. cally for 4.5. but thats it.

  8. Doodie Machetto on

I’ll admit I’m not very familiar with Pashnin. Can anyone provide me with a comparable player?

  9. Doodie – The one I hear frequently is Kasparitis. I think he’s a bit smaller though.

    I liked x 2

The thing I like most about pashnin, he kept his word, even when offered a chance to come over here in FEB, to his team over there and stayed to fulfill his obligation. Nice to see a player play hard and physical and keep his word (certainly not all about the jagr)!

  11. I am very optimistic they can continue what works so far that is the decent to very good defense backed up by an extraordinay goalie. I said it numerous times at the end of last year this team will go through a wall if need be. They have upgraded themselves offensively and that sets the stage which puts them on the rise in the eastern conference. The caps lucked out landing a vey good goalie which very much keeps them in the conversation. The bruins have to count on a repeat from their 37 year old goAlie to be in the mix again. The devils are Anyone’s guess. The penguins will not be the same as Crosby will either play a peripheral game and not be the same player he once was or get re injured. Who does that leave? The habs? Speedy yet a year older. Henrik plays like a sieve in Montreal. The isles? Young fast and improving. Always a thorn in the side. Panthers? Sloooooooowwwwwwwww. Yet difficult for our heroes to play against. The sens are sliding into 1993 land. The sabers are always well coached and energetic. Everyone talks about how torrid the debs were In he second half but how about those sabres. And all the without Derek Roy. The lightning should be the most difficult team to beat now that the flyers have taken at best a lateral step and at worst a step back with another non performer in between the pipes and removing sixty or more goals from their lineup. So I see it like this

    What do you think

  12. Wicky(grating PIBG)© (The she/it on our D is sofa king SOFT!!!) on

yep, the kaspar (not that one) comparison is also the one i read a lot about!

In this years prospect camp, rumour has it at the beginning he was actually fatiguing himself running around trying to hit everything…he settled down towards the end. Unfortunately that may mean hartford.

The guy I am very curious about is erixon, I quite frankly have no idea who he is compared to in playing style. I just hope he isn’t vanilla and takes another roster spot. I’d love to see a pair of vtank and pashnin (hank might not some times). But then you have staal, OPG, mcdonut, sauer, mdz, and erixon yet (and ktek, with slim outside shot of mcilrath). I think mcilrath is the one we need the most on the blueline, but he probably needs another year of minors. It will be interesting!

I think the caps far and away did the best off season job

  14. I think you forgot the Hurricanes and Maple Leafs.

Can’t see Lightning winning the conference, and I think the Penguins and likely the Flyers will finish ahead of us. Anything is possible!

I see the Maple Leafs making the playoffs instead of the Sabres.

  15. John M,
I’d love to share you optimism…but will stop right here.
According Globe&Mail, Evgeny Nabokovsign with Isles for pitty cash of $570K, but his agent – Don Mean(?) said he can still change team before september. Have no idea what all this supposed to mean. Just info.

  16. CCCP,
Your absent, buddy, was my only disappointment from otherwise wonderful ilb. gathering. I really counted on it. If transportation was a problem, I could easily pick you up from Brooklyn in any combination of 4 (including, but not limited, dogs and/or cats). Sigh.

  17. 4everanger

Yes, transportation is somewhat of a problem since i do not have a car of my own at the moment. But it wasn’t the main problem, though… It was my girl’s bday this past weekend so her mom was in town and I had to entertain my future MIL (mother-in-law) (:

I apologize for not being able to make it. We’ll do this next time.

  18. Good morning, ‘heads!

wick, Erixon isn’t vanilla…He’s a well rounded player, according to most…Almost every scout loves the kid’s game…
