God, I love that Twitter widget over there ——>
On a day when there’s news, it really does its job.
So Brandon Dubinsky and the Rangers avoided arbitration at the last second, and you know what? The deal is the right one for everybody. If it took a little longer than you’d like, or if it cause a little more discussion than it should have, it came out right in the end.
Four years, $16.8 million is right about where Dubinsky should be slotted, and for a long enough term that is good for both the player and the team. It isn’t too much, it isn’t too little, for either side.
Good job by Glen Sather, and by Dubinsky’s side, too.
Now Dubinsky has to “get it” to another level. Last year, when he was probably the team’s first-half MVP, it seemed he figured out the idea of consistent effort, of moving is feet, finishing every check. That fell off a bit in the second half. Some of that might have had to do with the leg fracture, but some of it sure appeared to be his concentration level.
And, despite all the flack he takes in our comments section, this is a really good hockey player, a cornerstone player, a guy who does a lot of everything for his team. He’s a guy other teams would love to take off the Rangers’ hands. He’s a keeper.
