First!! Yay!
I only see one Conn Smythe winner there, but I guess he should be the one asking the other three average players (Drury’s case-below average) how he will like NY…
...whatever. I will be the first to call out the naysayers if they are right. They deserve the props for their clairvoyance.
only one more season and Mario Avery is gone!
Hey your link is pointing me to the gannett exchange webmail.
Great comic though.
Yeah!
cw – I only see one consistent scorer in there also. Drury and Gomez were not consistent scorers. They had a good year or two, but for the most part were not scorers. Why they gave Holik all that money and expected him to be more than a checking forward was beyond me. Richards has been pretty consistent in his career and like you say, was actually more clutch than Mr. Clutchness.
...and they should be sitting further apart too. Richards is such a higher talent than any of those guys. Tier one talent v. tier2/3 talent. Laughable. But it is a comic…
..and he has the wrong # on top of that.
And if he was trying to illustrate the previous team of each of the dearly departed centers prior to getting filthy stinking rich via the Rangers, Gomez should be a Devil.
maybe he should walk into a bar with Messier, Nemchinov, McTavish all sitting at the bar…
Um….It’s just a comic, folks…..Geez…
Good morning, boneheads!
So last night we were trading AA left and right again, eh? Life is back to normal, I guess.
Thank God none of us is a GM!
And Gomez wears 11 for the Les Scabs.
lib,
Yeah but I’d say any of us could do a better job than what Mad Mike did with the Fishsticks.
Respectfully disagree, CTB…..Mad Mike? You have to be very smart to be that stupid…..
Nothing interesting in the papers that I can find worse linking on the blog at the moment. Except there is an article in NYP by Howard Kussoy, who tends to make many factual mistakes in his articles, I noticed many times before. This time he announces Richards’ contract as 9 yr, $58.5M. Oh, well…Doesn’t anyone edit those things?
Oh that totally makes Richards the steal of free agency.
The boring mornings are just beginning, ilb. Here come the dark doldrums of summer. I will try to entertain you while keeping myself under control. :)
Did we sign Luigi Dubinsky yet?
If Messier was at the bar he would have the Stanley Cup with him!
Yeah, maybe there are some inaccuracies in this comic, but at least it’s a sports blog that been updated since April 19.
Here’s a funny picture of Boudreau from the Daily News sports/celebrity lookalike article: http://assets.nydailynews.com/img/2011/07/04/gal_boudreau-hatt.jpg
Is that Herm Edwards in the Gomez jersey?
For many years (when I was younger), when I would see a #19 New York Ranger jersey, I just always thought..Jean Ratelle. Then, sometime after 1994, I was visiting the NHL Hall of Fame in Toronto (which fortunately I have done several times), and a Nick Kypreos jersey from the Stanley Cup Champion New York Rangers was hanging proudly in a display case. Now that is what I think of when I see a #19 Rangers jersey (but then I think of Jean Ratelle also).
Hopefully, BR will someday make me think differently
Carp, your link is broken. I think it’s trying to log me into your e-mail.
And Gomez definitely looks like a black guy.
In the drawing, that is.
I just remember Kypreos being one of the first guys trying to get a touch of the Cup after it was handed to Messier and thinking “what did this guy do to be moved up to the front of the line?”
Yea Doodie – it’s like a bobblehead. All the people just look generally like the person they are supposed to represent.
Lots of Number Switching. Richards – 19, Fedotenko – 26, Christiansen – 40, Rupp – 71. I might have to rip Gomez off my #19 jersey and get Richards sewn on.
It’s probably easier to get a Richards nameplate sewn on.
How about tattoo? That should be good for at least 9 years…
Kinda stealing this from Blueshirt Banter, but unscientific goal totals predictions, choose over/under
Gaborik 32
Richards 21
Callahan 26
Dubinsky 28
Anisimov 23
Stepan 24
Fedotenko 13
Prust 12
Zuccs 16
Boyle 17
Rupp 6
Avery 9
Christensen 11
Wolski 18
So if no more trades are made, we sign all our RFA, and we go into training camp with who we currently have, this is what I came up with as the training camp roster:
Returning Forwards (Absolutley making the team)
Gabby – W
Richards – C
Stepan – C
Prust – W
Rupp – C/W
Fedotenko – W
Dubi – W
Cally – W
Artie – C
Boyle – C
10 Forwards – Leaves 2-3 spots open based on 23 man max roster
Signed forwards fighting for a roster spot
Christensen – C/W
Avery – W
Wolski – W
Zuccarello – W
Defense – (Absolutely making the team)
Staal
Girardi
McDonough
Sauer
Fighting for spots
Del Zotto
Erixon
Eminger (if he is resigned as the 7th Dman)
Rookie challenging for spots (I may have missed some people, let me know)
Valentekno – D
McIlrath – D
Thomas – F
Hagelin – F
Mitchell – F
Borque – F
Lindberg – F
Weise – F (though I dont think there’s any room for him this year)
Redden – D (Had to put him in there, ha)
Goalies: – Done & locked up
Hank
Biron
So in a nutshell, 80% of last years team returning, with a maximum of 6 roster spots open for competition.
I think it really comes down to Christensen & Zuccarello fighting for that 13th forward position who is shipped back and forth from hartford as needed.
Wolski has alot talent and even though inconsistent I don’t think there giving up on him just yet, could be mid season trade if he faulters.
Avery is basically untradeable, is good friends with Richards, and is the only agitator we have. Rupp & Feds are a little, but not in the same way Avery is. Plus it’s his last year of his contract, so I think he stays and if he struggles is sent to Hartford.
EC is a head case and is inconsistent, but has great hands and skill.
Zuccarello is small and inconsistent but is younger, has great offensive skills and has more upside.
Both are shootout wizards, though EC has the better history being in the league longer.
So one of them is going to Hartford.
Defense is a little tougher to gage.
Erixon & Del Z will be given every chance to prove they belong on the roster
If Eminger is resigned, he’s the older D man and rotates in & out as the other guys struggle
OR Valentenko or another D from Hartford impresses in camp and makes the team.
So not really projecting lines, as much as full roster, but I have no problem goign into the season with the team looking like this:
Feds-Richards-Gabby
Dubi-Artie-Cally
Avery-Stepan-Wolski
Prust-Boyle-Rupp
(EC or Zuccarello as the spare forward)
Staal-Girardi
McD-Sauer
Del Z, Erixon, Eminger
(one rotates as 7th Dman)
Hank
Biron
What do you boys and girls think?
Satisfied with a roster looking like this come opening night?
Gaborik 32 Over
Richards 21 Even
Callahan 26 Over
Dubinsky 28 Under
Anisimov 23 Over
Stepan 24 Under
Fedotenko 13 Even
Prust 12 Under
Zuccs 16 Under (not counting Shootouts!)
Boyle 17 Over
Rupp 6 Even
Avery 9 Over (1st line minutes coming right up)
Christensen 11 Over (not counting shootouts!)
Wolski 18 Over
When I first looked at this I thought under for all of them. Then I decided to try and be positive and think it through.
Mikey…well done…with the exception or possibility that if we find ourselves in a Salary Cap crunch after the Dubie/Cally/Sauer/AA/Boyle deals are done / and if Erixon makes the team…then Wolski will get bought out/cut because he makes too much. Other than that possibility, you are right on. (I guess we all assume Vinny will not be signed for one more year)
TheREALMikeyNJ
Long, but very good and complete summary. Great job, Mikey.
Gotta go, will give my thoughts (if any) later. Good productive day, everybody.

Apologies for the link. no idea what happened or when or how it was fixed. but I think it’s working now. Or, as GLC once said, “Jimmy cracked corn, and I don’t care.”
And This, when i see 19 think of Dean Talafous.

also, ilb, you missed this from your second-favorite newspaper. Steve Serby’s Q&A with Brad Richards:
http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/rangers/serby_special_with_brad_richards_aYOgw5IWSMTgJVKJG0fjZM
Good morning, Sally!
I wouldn’t call an internet version (mobile, too) of a sport section a newspaper, Carp….But yeah, I missed it.
Thanks LIfetime
I agree Wolski could be bought out if we need the cap sapce after resignings
I just think Torts is on the fence about him
either way its a 3 dog race between EC, MZA and Wolski
Does the season start soon? hehe
LEts go Rangers!!
LOL! Lord Avery is going to score 40 goals this year on the top line. When he plays with Gaby and Richie, he will be the All-Star LW we have been missing… Best hockey player ever….
Gaby is lucky that Avery likes him and has agreed to play with him. That should easily add 20-30 goals to Gaby’s season total.
And, MZA is surely a bust. 16 goals is a stretch for him. This isn’t the Swedish Midget League. He’s lucky he can even see over the boards. Maybe he should stick with spells and magic and forget this hockey stuff… He’s not ready for prime time
Maybe it’s time to give up on Artie. He’s got world class skill, size, skates well, and is a good teammate. We should trade him for a hard-nosed vet like Rissmiller…
And, Torts ain’t got carcillo on Roger Nielson…
Good work, Mikey. I noticed you used the word “dog” to describe the race. Woof. Woof.
Color me a changed man. After a protracted lament over the passing up of Fowler, I’ve seen the light. McIlrath was by most accounts the best player at the recent prospects camp. That means he’s at least a year ahead of the curve and he is likely to make the team next year. Interesting that he apparently looked better than Erixon and Pashnin. I think there’s little to no chance of him making the team out of camp so it’s gonna be back to Moose Jaw for continued growth.
McIlrath’s dramatic improvement creates an interesting potpourri of possibilities for the Rangers. Suddenly top heavy with talented defensemen, it seems evident that a trade of one of these guys is inevitable if not imminent. The Rangers have projected Erixon as a top four dman and ditto McIlrath. If MDZ and Vtank measure up, all the more reason to trade someone. An embarrassment of riches and someone is going to go barring injuries.
I’m thinking how the Pens traded Goligowski and got Neal for him. I see the Rangers getting a big tough goal scoring winger sooner than later. Maybe a Jamie Benn. Your thoughts?
Gaborik 32 -over
Richards 21- over
Callahan 26- even
Dubinsky 28 – under
Anisimov 23 – under(but close)
Stepan 24 – even
Fedotenko 13 – over

Rupp 6 – over

Hopefully, sacrascm wasn’t lost in my rant above ;)
i thought it was pretty sarcastic. but I’m an expert on sarcasm.
sarcasm
sarcasmCaber!
Sarcaberism
Is that Scott Gomez or Darryl Strawberry?
Caebrino
TheREALMikeyNJ – Couple minor things. Lindberg already said he’s not coming over this season. Not sure if he’s going to be in camp, but it sounds like he won’t. Also Fedotenko is a great third liner. But him on first has been tried before with very poor success. He simply doesn’t have the skill to be that high in the lineup. Zuccarello will either be making the team or will be back to Sweden. I don’t see him accepting a demotion to Hartford. On the contrary, I see him as making a big leap. Maybe even to the left side of Gaborik and Richards. If not him, then definitely Wolski. They’re really the only two to move over there without breaking up the second of Dubinsky-Anisimov-Callahan. Though personally, I think Dubinsky would be the best bet fit. Maybe move Fedotenko up to second. I don’t know.
jessespector Who will play left wing on #NYR top line with Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik?
Um….Avery. Duh! The question should be “who will play center and right wing on the #NYR top line with Sean Avery?”
I wish NYR re-signed all their RFA’s already. I hate this time of the summer.
Yeah, Slats seemed confident that contracts would get done within a few weeks. I have a feeling that teams/GMs are all waiting on the Stamkos decision….
The four who filed for arbitration will either be signed before their arbitration decisions, or at the time of the arbitration decisions, so that will speed things up, and Anisimov ought to be close to signing.
I don’t think Stamkos has anything to do with it.
Ready to go:
WW – BR – Gabby
Duby – AA – Cally
Fedtank
StepOnMZARupper – Boyle – Prust
OPG – Staal
Sauer – McD
Erixon – Eminger
Lundsequester
Biron
Avery – observer.
NYR – maybe you are being sarcastic…I actually think Avery will fit in there. Just a hunch.
Well, I know Dublowsky’s deal will be done while the team is in Europe, playing their pre-season games.
I do expect everyone else to sign sooner.
Hopefully Slats makes a few trades. Get some of the dead weight off the boat.
Gaborik 32 even
Richards 21 over
Callahan 26 under
Dubinsky 28 under
Anisimov 23 over
Stepan 24 under
Fedotenko 13 under

Boyle 17 under
Rupp 6 under

No, Voice. Dubinsky’s going to arbitration. So if they don’t sign before arbitration, then the arbitration decision will be his contract.
Gaborik 32 – Over (And it better be over by like 10, or else we’re b’ed)
Richards 21 – Under
Callahan 26 – Over
Dubinsky 28 – Over
Anisimov 23 – Under
Stepan 24 – Under
Fedotenko 13 – Under
Prust 12 – Under
Zuccs 16 – Under (Might take the under on that if it were games played)
Boyle 17 – Under
Rupp 6 – Push
Avery 9 – Over (Yea Doodie!!!)
Christensen 11 – Under (Would take the under of 1 so long as this is “goals as a Ranger”)
Wolski 18 – Over
(14 guys, 256 goals if you took the push on each one.)
Why is Kevin Weekes (Weekesie?) part of the twitter sidebar? Its all hockey writers writing mostly hockey comments then him talking about the minutia of his life.
the latest all the rfa will be signed is august 6th the last day arbitrator decides. more then likely they all get signed prior to july 20th first day of arbitration.
i could only see dubi perhaps going to arbitration.
Oh, I see, Carp.
I still don’t expect him to be a Ranger by the 2012-2013 season.
Gaborik 32 – Over
Richards 21 – Over
Callahan 26 – Over
Dubinsky 28 – Over
Anisimov 23 – Over

Zuccs 16 – Under
Boyle 17 – Over
Rupp 6 – Under
Avery 9 – Under
Christensen 11 – Way Under
Wolski 18 – Under
NYR players should be added to the Widget.
So if Boyle went 3 or more over, you’d have us with 7 20+ goal guys, Orr. That would be super neat!
I agree exactly with 4ever on the over/under.
Very neat! It better happen!
LOL @ the comic! Roughly 192 million dollar picture!
A Rangers fan walks into a bar. There’s another Rangers fan there. “Neat!” they yell in unison as they high-five.
What do you think those guys ordered and how much was their bar tab?
I hate the over/under projections on stats. First off it’s impossible to determine because you can’t predict ice time, opportunity, slumps or health. Second- WHO CARES who scores 20 or 24 or 30 as long as they get the job done every night.
I am pretty sure it was just for fun James. Shoots-n-gigs as they say.
Then again there are some people here that make it seem like the Rangers could be handing the Stanley Cup off to each other and they’d be sitting slumped in their seat at MSG frowning and thinking about how Richards has x amount of years left on his deal and Gaborik didn’t score 40 goals in the regular season.
What’s the over/under on “F” bombs, Torts dishes out on 24/7??
I’d love to take those Wolski-over 18 bets.
Manny I want REAL fun. I think Carp and Torts should plan a day trip to 6 flags for all of us.
Great idea, voice. does anybody have a list of Rangers players twitter addresses?
And maybe we can get Torts to use our vocabulary on 24/7 … byfuglien, bryzgalov, carcillo, cooke, clutterbuck.
lol Orr. Can you guys imagine if the Rangers go through a slump during filming like Washington did? Torts may beat a camera man with one of Lundqvist’s sticks

“What do you think those guys ordered and how much was their bar tab?”
I’m usually a craft beer guy but the list sucks so lets assume a dark & stormy (sazarec if I’m feeling less sweet, pear mojito (???) if I’m feeling fancy) plus the “chicken sando” although I’m asking for the brioche bun instead of the ciabatta (the best ciabatta is on par with mediocre brioche). So that’s $12 + $14 + $2.31 tax + $8 tip (I’m good like that) and its $36.31 for my side. $37.31 if I get a dollar upcharge for the brioche bun.
What are you getting Orr?

nice to see you are a changed man, congrats and welcome to the logical side!
mickey
sorry I didn’t get back to you last night. I had to work late. Are you on FB? I’ll give you directions.
cracking me up that the 4th period (I think) is trying to get a drive going to have mike commodore take the #64 with the wings
we are putting ranger players on the willywonka——>?
Great idea!
I go with torts and a minimum of 100
are these the actual addresses?
That’s a lot of people to add to Waseka…how often do they post? Will this make it impossible to find news in there?
UncleGlennie
We don’t need Waseka filled up with a list of how much Michael Del Zotto drank.
100th.
...and jackwagon!!!
Hey everbody…..Just introducing myself. I’m friends with BANJ, we work together…. I’m 42 years old and have been a Ranger fan for about 30 years…. Really like the look of this Team, we’re not to far away…I play NHL ‘11 on the PS3 alot, can’t wait for NHL ‘12 to come out… Looking forward to being a regular member here… RalphieG
Agree, Manny. It will get too busy.
well, I don’t even know who St.Croix is, so he’s out.
iamseanavery is not sean avery, so that’s out.
Chris Kreider?
andyyogs?
I wonder if Sean Avery will come “out” in 24/7? Not that there is anything “wrong” with that…
Ralph!
Wilkomen. Bienvenue. Hola. Aloha. etc…
welcome, Ralphie! tell your friends.
When do we start the new NYR captain debate? Everyone has Cally penciled in. Why him and not Staal, Dubi, Henke, or even Girardi? Or did the Carcillo debacle forever tarnish Girardi?
Manny, i really thought that Dubi looked like Luigi from Mario Bros in the playoffs too…hahaha
Ralph reminds me…....did anyone ever write a glossary to this website for newcomers? I feel like it has gotten infinitely more confusing to people since I began here (about 9 months ago).
Somebody please play NHL11 or 12 with RalpieG, so he leaves me alone. :P
That’s awesome 4Gen! I thought nobody was with me on that one. Thanks for validating my life.
Because very simply when something needs to be done on the team, we all turn to Callahan and nobody else.
Citation: Rangers are down in a crucial game VS. boston 3-0, for the 3rd goal, Ryan Callahan turns into Henrik Sedin with a backhand-behind-the-back-tape-to-tape pass to Dubinsky to tie the game (that we eventually won 5-3).
Our captain IS Callahan and has been since Dreary started drearing.
Manny idk how nobody could be with you, he needed to be wearing a hat and overalls all playoffs, it was making me laugh so hard when he celebrated the goal in the 3rd game, so Luigi status.
”..Dreary started drearing.” LOL!
Mark Cuban in the Dreary Jersey…..
Bienvenue Ralphie
“Because very simply when something needs to be done on the team, we all turn to Callahan and nobody else.”
What about when we were on death’s doorstep and Dubinsky won Game 3 against the Caps while Callahan just sat in the press box and watched???
(I agree, I like the sound of Captain Callahan. But in my world one A would definitely go to Dubinsky, mostly because I want to know that management views those two as near equals in terms of the core.)
hey hey ralphie-boy…...
Any friend of BANJ’s is…well a friend of BANJ’s!
(Hey Carp, at 12:37 I’m showing a comment “awaiting moderation”. Is that weird?)
Believe it or not…that’s really Sean Avery…LOL!
this website is one of the harder ones to understand even if youve been here. ive been reading this blog since Sam Weinman was here, and then the Carp regime started and now we all use random words for cursing and random other terminology that nobody else understands.
Lol Wicky
THE PRUST’s shoulder seems fine…he is bench pressing 747’s…..
my PS3 handle is CCCP_94
i play NHL11
4gen
I think it is clutterbucking Prust awesome!!
THE PRUST will score 12 goals in his first shift….12 way too low…
yeah well what the byfuglien, have some fun anyway
Welcome, Ralphie. Nobody is 42 here, we are all 26, remember?
BANJ- you’ve got to teach him how to properly post monologues on old posts :-)
wicky?
i approve of using random things as adjectives, even if theyre explicit nouns. When Chara takes the bomb they have ‘The Heat of Zdeno.’ Just the way it is man..
CCCP, sounds good bro. I’ll send you a friend request tonight. Mine is MMTAMI26 (wife’s name, she created it, long story-lol)....
One more thing guys, I made a mistake. I’m not 42 years old. I’m actually 26.
I hope they do not rush McIlrath this year, I really do. For what is expected of him, he needs at least another year to mature physically.
Hello, ‘heads!
Hey, did everyone see that the Blues signed Langenbrunner and Arnott? Maybe the Habs can get rid of Gomez by sending him to St. Louis? They seem to be stockpiling defunct Devils…...
one thing not quite right with the cartoon/comic at the top of the page…is the size of Holik’s head…..that massive cranium should be at least 300 times larger….
i’m 22, im pretty sure ORR is too. we’ve got people of all ages in here :D
ralphie-boy…isnt your wife’s name alice?.....still drive a bus?
AHhahahhah eddie eddie eddie the last playoff game i was at (was Game 4 VS. Thrashers sweeep) all i could hear the entire game was (because Holik was still playing at this time) “GET OFF THE BYFUGLIEN ICE YOU CLUTTERBUCKING WATERMELON HEAD!”
I will never forget the man of whom harrassed Bobby Holik from the 300 sections.
And yeah – in the comic above, Gomez looks like Ray Emery…what’s up with that!?
Re the overs and unders, I make the number on Gaborik 18. Cally and Duby look a bit high. Stepan is interesting, could go either way. I’m thinking that fall 2012 could be his break-out season. Generally, the third year is when those who are going to make it big move from “having potential” to realizing that potential. Richards and AA should go over. The rest = who cares? Staalwart should be in double digit goal scoring totals for the next 10 years.
AVERY RICHARDS GABBY …..A-VERY good line….
ilb…first Ralphie has to understand all the Bonehead-isms..Carcillo..Byfuglien etc. Alot for a rookie to learn. I’ll have him ready by pre-season.
4 Generations: What the Carcillo are you saying?
4generations…so now you think you’re better than us?!
Boneheads: I know youve all thought of this, but in all honesty, when do think this franchises ‘year’ is? Our goaltender is in his prime, several of our players are starting to play very good for us and potentially break out next year (Staal, AA, Stepan, Dubi to higher point/goal totals) do we have a shot to compete with the B’s, Caps, Bolts in terms of structure and production? I wish chere was still around, we needed a sniper like him..
I knew you looked younger Ralphie
James G, neveeerrrr. I always condescend to Bobby Holik and never feel pretentious because of my younger, spritely age. The older, wiser people in here always got respect ;)
4 generations – Holik’s head was HUGE…..how that thing ever fit inside any helmut is beyond me….he needed a special shower nozzle because his head blocked the rest of his body from hetting wet…..that was one giant noodle
eddie eddie eddie you know when he went home after a long game he had to put a towel on the floor to help him drag his head all over the house. he never bought a house with stairs, for the obvious concussion risks.
my emotional age is 7…wont turn 8 for quite a few years…
Welcome abroad, Ralphie. Good luck.
eddie,
Holik always sounded like he had a mouth full of marbles when he did interviews.
4 generations…..this year we go to the CF…next year we win the cup…take that to the bank
IDK why they interview eastern european players when theyre physically dead tired. I can barely speak english after i get off the ice after a good skate. These guys are pushing themselves as hard as possible.
latona – yeah….to be honest, it was amazing he could do anything because 98% of his blood supply was always circulating in that giant chrome-dome….that he didnt have major organ failure is beyond me…
“Major Organ Failure”
sounds like two things….
A. A funny story about a church organ not working or….
B. An awesome band name
i wonder if crosby has pooped yet…
eddie,
You are a riot.
i need to watch some more Rangers playoff hockey. I really think the addition of Rupp was key, in the sense that he can score, fight, grind, and play an overall Rangers style of play.
Where i worry are parts like Wolski, whom in my opinion, is a europansy. He needs to get the cajones to go into the corners and beat for those pucks, but he doesnt.
We need workers, not passengers.
ra ra riot
manny—major organ failure!?!?!? do you listen to death metal!?
I think an awesome band name would be “The Percolated Collective.” That is trademarked by myself, btw; I used it in an essay in the 9th grade.
4 gen that’s it. it’s go time!
manny – Major organ failure is why viagra was invented…
I NEED TO WATCH RANGERS. IM STARTING TO SCRATCH.
We need a countdown until preseason—like a constantly moving clock.
I need it.
My favorite band name was one I recently came up with:
“Ass[en] Full of Bees”
great band name The b^4…..the befores…...and ….pi over 2
LOL, you guys…
Good thing I have to work, ‘cause this place is about to go from suck to blow….Which reminds me, we haven’t done Spaceballs for awhile. Manny?
Suck, Suck, Suck, Suck!
the killers were originally named THE PRUSTS…..but there was another band in the east end named the PRUSTS, so they changed…..later the PRUSTS changed to THE NEW PRUSTS, and the killers were going to change back to THE PRUSTS, but then said…ahhh what’s the point
“Raspberry. There’s only one man who would dare give me the raspberry: Lone Star!”
eddie x 3?

OH I HATE YOGURT! EVEN WITH RASPBERRIES
Oh, man…May Schwartz be with us this summer. We’ll need it.
speaking of lone star, any of you guys had that beer with that name? There is always a pretty cool game under the cap!

Wolski 18 Under (won’t even make 18 on another team after he’s bought out)
lord helmut?.....is what holik called his noodle protector?
I think Rupp was signed to essentially fill the role of Jody Shelley. Odds are that he’s going to have an ATOI of less than 10 minutes. His ATOI was up slightly last year because of all the injuries to the Pens. Next season basically heavily hinges on the production of Gaborik and Richards. And if Wolski isn’t bought out then I assume they’re planning on using him somewhere in the top 6 because he really isn’t useful as a 3rd or 4th liner.
” 1,2,3,4? That’s the combination an idiot would have on his luggage ”
i had a chia pet groomed to look like holik’s head…it takes up 5 acres of land…
Find anything yet?
We ain’t found Carcillo!

Ok assens, off to get a hair cut and a shave!!

Prepare space ball 1 for immediate departure. and change the combination on my luggage!

Mr. D … and all others … I just found a whole boatload of comments stuck in the awaiting-moderation file …
almost all of them are in there because of multiple links in the comment. The wordpress reads multiple links as spam.
so, please, keep it to one link per comment. you can comment as many times as you want, but one link per.
Question for youse all—Jagr was the last Ranger to collect more than 100 points in a season. Do you think Richards could do it, or will he be too low on the G side?
(My personal opinion is that he could—I like him for slightly OVER the 21 goals—like 25-30—and I could see him with 60 assists. It will probably be close, but my prediction is—26-61 = 89.) Thoughts?
Some of those might be me Carp. Sometimes, when I add a website to my Monicker my posts don’t show up but if I try again it says “duplicate comment, etc.”
Sorry.
i’m not gonna do this over/under crap…
my prediction – everyone on the team will have a career year.
Laws of Rangeritis say Richards: 20-49-69 this season
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
take it back james!
Starbucks coffee is horrible. Why does my boss insist on getting coffee from there…which means I have to get coffee from there.
no need to apologize to me, Manny. Makes no difference to me. But if you want your links to be posted, then they have to be done in separate comments. that’s all.
and I like Starbucks.
Starbucks sucks!!
Dunkin’ is waaaaay better.
But, nothing beats homemade espresso…
So now there is a need to apologize after the Starbucks comment?
Vibin’
Vibin’!
So we’ll have about 5 mil of cap space left after all the RFAs are signed up. Bring in a veteran d-man for cheap like Rivet, Staoas, or Sopel (preferably Rivet). Now with Tank probably coming up as well, would anyone else not mind seeing Zherdev play wing with Richards and Gaborik? Figure he’ll get 2-2.5 mil for a year, and couldn’t hurt too much. I think it would take pressure of Step so he wouldn’t have to play up on the top line. Zherdev could keep up offensively with the other two and hold the puck longer to free up Gabby.
I’m like one of 3 Rangers fans who wouldn’t mind seeing this though.
“would anyone else not mind seeing Zherdev play wing with Richards and Gaborik?”
LOL!! Yes!! I’ve been waiting my whole life for this.
Dunkin is the worst. I think they heat it to 400 degrees just to cover up the taste.
Manny, apology accepted.
It would be funny to see the Rangers sign Zherdev just before the start of 24/7. That would increase the Torts byfuglien count exponentially.
Best rain delay ever:

Carp, I got them from SNY. SNY has a widget of NYR players and prospects.
St Croix is the guy that was drafted a few weeks ago, I think. Andyogs is Andrew Yogan
say no to sonny and cher-dev
Carp which video is that?
Cher is/was awesome! Moonstruck!
Sweargen,corksoaker!
Also StevenFogarty19
Nicholas Cage = Overrated Actor!
His son is a whack job too!
Nic Cage is SO good in Adaptation (and a few others, e.g. Raising Arizona, Moonstruck)
I see often and deep routed disgust with Avery in this column, and usually his PIM and missed shots are oft cited.
And yes there are times when he is off the plantation so to speak, but what is ignored are the many instances of his being almost demonic in the attacking zone, keeping the puck in play and disrupting the opposing team for long periods practically by himself, while a lot of serious looking on is evident with the others on ice at the time. And he does take punishment and bounces back. They could do worse than keep him….much worse.
Yeah, that video is OK but can’t they just call all the ticket holders if the game is going to be rained out?
The only Nicholas Cage movie I like, that comes to mind, is Kick Ass.
Coincidentally, it’s his most annoying role!
Here’s a hilarious spoof of his horrible acting on Conan. The Nic Cage Threat Level!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cV3io76BuQ
Here’s another one with different clips
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpYpARJKvQ8&feature=related
Remember that crap movie “National Treasure”. LOL!
LOL! I know not to see a Cage movie just by the trailer alone!
The funny thing is, he’s having money problems, so he’s doing random movies, and they’re all beyond horrible, except Kick Ass.
He’s even doing Ghost Rider 2! LMAO!!
That movie needed less Nic Cage and more Diane Kruger.
Johnny, they’re going to have Snow Tire Day, or Jon Voigt Day.
Carp – that video is amazing. If those kids were professional players they would all be suspended for being funny and bringing about the possibility of injuring themselves.
OMG!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to Zherdev! WHY in the name of all that is holy would you want that lazy, wife beating, piece of Carcillo on this team???
manny
umm, well as you could see by the contest pic I have a bit of a baby/puppy face so I don’t shave very often…so yes a shave that was due, it is getting really hot here now (it is getting into the 20s and 30s now and I prefer the single digits, speaking celsius of course) so time to lose the hair!
Timmy’s is the best!!
Actually, Face-Off was a pretty decent movie, I think. I haven’t seen it in ages.
The best Nick Cage movie bar none is Raising Arizona:
“Do these ballonnsblow up into funny shapes?”
“Not unless circular is funny.”
LOL! Was that the movie where he switched faces with Travolta (the villain)? LMAO! I never saw it! I just remember the commericals when it came out on DVD…
Yeah? It was good?!?
“Edwina’s insides were a rocky place where my seed could find no purchase.”
I thought con air was pretty good. Any one see season of the witch?
orr
did you see sucker punch? Should they have changed the title to tie domi?
Con Air rules.
Wicky – my beard is getting huge and it’s 100 F here (about). Hot. I find that the beard makes me look crazy and keeps me safe in the city.
Ha—nice get manny!
I heard Sucker Punch was boring, aside from the babes.
NYR, I think it’s good. I haven’t seen it in over 10 years.
manny
LMFAO!! In the immortal words of ILB/the most interesting man in the world “stay safe my friend”!
Nic Cage is interesting because he’s a Coppola so he doesn’t need money but he continues to do horrible movies solely for the money and then every couple of years he will do a great film and show how good he could be if he tried consistently.
ok assens, off to work!
have a great day!
Thanks, Wicky!
lotsa gibberish (jibberish) here today.
time for a commercial, yo.

I thought he has money problems, Manny. I read aboot how he owed the IRS an insane amount of money.
RIP John Mackey – another reason why head shots need to be outlawed in ALL sports!
Oh yea…that’s right ORR. I don’t know what happened there. I thought he was a Coppola.
lol I think after Zherdev played for Torts in the playoffs it’s safe to say he’ll never be a Ranger again while Torts is at the helm. The guy can’t keep it together for a full season and is a playoff failure. I wish we had Cherponov :(
btw in regards to the above cartoon- did Scott Gomez start undergoing chemo therapy? (relax I’m a cancer survivor I can make that comment)
I erased Gomez from my memory – thanks to that cartoon it all came back to me! : o
Actually, Gomez’s head is fully shaved. He started balding during his final years with the Devils, so he decided to shave it all off.
Getzlaf should do the same thing.
Gomez looks like he’s naked from the waist down.
And Holik looks like his waist is attached to a beanbag chair.
“RIP John Mackey – another reason why head shots need to be outlawed in ALL sports!”
Boxing might be weird without them.
LOL!
The Devils new head coach will have a girls name!
Which one, Orr? The one before or after Christmas?
Let’s sign Mike Knuble and Jason Strudwick! ex Ranger powerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
The Serby Q&A with Richards just made me like Richards that much more. Sounds like such a class act and a level-headed guy.
(How is he good buddies with Avery?!)
Good one, ilb!
Holik’s face looks like a cross between the Frankenstein monster and Eric the Midget.
LOL! LW3H, that’s true!
—-
Damn shame how the Devils treated Johnny Mac. He is a good coach but he had to take the blame for Kovalchoke’s miserable start…
damn shame what they did to that dog…
Is boxing even a sport anymore?
LMAO, James!
“We got a little bit of an ‘insect problem’. But, you boys from Africa are used to that.”
I want a woman that will arouse my intellect as well as my loins.
LOL!! Hey stu- your rent’s due! don’t try that fallin down the stairs cooke with me! you conscious!
“Aw, hells bells. They even shot the dog!”
And back to Coming to America….
“He helped Joshua fight the battle of Jericho, he helped Daniel get out the lion’s den, he helped Gilligan get off the island.”
Eric, the obnoxious midget!
“Fascinating! Semmi, look at this! America is great indeed. Imagine a country so free, one can throw glass on the streets!”
He’s club byfuglien footed!
Apparently these are the best women Queens has to offer. Pick one and let’s go home.
Just read Richards’ interview. Some nice charities he has been involved in…Let’s hope he does something similar in NY…
Ack, Ack!
ETM’s head explodes.

Uh-oh, stuttering BANJ!
Ah! ORR! WTF. That was horrifying!
OMG and to think he had a good time at the Bunny Ranch.
With a mug like that, he’ll never get Kelly Clarkson to go on a date with him.
And if you were wondering what Bobby Holik’s head was up to these days:
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/2716/easterisland5.jpg
MZA-Stepan-Wolski
WOuld like to see this line get a bit more time this year. Seemed like there was some potential.
Orr, High Pitch would date him.
LW, Witch one is Holik?
Which. geez!
None, BANJ…..He didn’t fit..
J, if those three guys are playing together, they’re playing fourth-line minutes.
Which means Stepan was worse than Boyle at Center.
Lol ilb!
I can’t click on any links at work…I will wait to be horrified tonight…
So I took a day off tomorrow after working July 4th weekend. Will be driving upstate soon. Want to make sure the house is ready for the party in a couple of weeks. Any special requests?
I’d love to figure out early in camp that one of the kids (lets go with Hagelin and his pretty blonde hair) is well past MZA on the depth chart and he just doesn’t have a future in NY. Something about the guy just irks me, beyond him seeming like the type of player who shouldn’t be able to crack the top 12 on a good team.
Long Live the Hobbit Wizard for he is Lord of the Rink
Fedotenko is the Lord of the Dance.
http://www.peterandchrizelle.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/lord-of-dance.jpg
Thank god we resigned him.
ETM took dancing lessons
http://i1086.photobucket.com/albums/j443/jcounce1/Howard%20Stern%20Show/Midget-Britney.gif
LOL! It irks me when Ranger fans insert Avery on the 1st line…and MZA is left as a spare forward…
MZA won’t be a spare forward on any team. It’s either top-6 in the NHL or top line in AHL…or back to Sweden…
ORR – do you have like a hard drive full of the creepiest things ever?
ilb, bring some lime for the bodies. wink wink.
lmao Orr!
LOL! I don’t, but I should!

you guys didn’t like Nick Cage in “Matchstick Men”? I thought it was a great movie!

Horrific!
Avery had 20 something assists last yr, with an average ice time of about 6 mins.. avery has proven to us before that he can play on a top line. Avery is an easy player to come down on, but he really might be the best for that top line lw spot.
Normally when Avery is put on the top line, he has two or three good games, then comes back to reality.
Yeah, I used to think the same way about Aves. Why not more ice time? He no doubt has skills and can move the puck effectively down low…he’s also a good skater…
He’s not nearly as effective as an agitator as he used to be. He had a mediocre season last year.
He is a liability, defensively. He goes offsides way too much. His shot accuracy is putrid. Those are the facts…I’m not hating on the guy…
Not exactly what I’m looking for in 1st line LW…Prust sayin’
True, but do u think torts has something to do with that? Plus. I would be more willing to have avery start up there then wolski, wolski needs to work hard and earn that spot, I don’t think he’s quiet earned it yet.
I just think u need to start him there and see where the seasons takes us.. avery also brings so grit to that line, which is very much lacking.
I can’t wait until after next season, when Avery signs with another team, and nothing changes.
Then finally everyone can stop blaming Torts for Avery’s lack of production.
Hard to not blame torts when avery produces 20+ assists with 4 line min and players. I honestly don’t like avery but think he fits in that spot best with how our roster is set up
I think guys like Feds, WW, MZA, and Hags will get a shot there before Avery does…
But, hey, I’m not the coach…that’s Tort’s job…
I don’t think Torts has anything really to do with Avery’s decline..the organization made a pledge to go with youth…he’s on his way out…
Torts’
Let’s not act like Avery was getting Booger minutes each game. He was on the ice for a good amount of time. He bounced around, and some games he had more minutes, and some he had less, but it’s not as if he was getting two minutes a game all season long.
It’s Sean Avery. It’s not like we’re winning extra games, or scoring extra goals if he gets more ice time for him.
I put Dublowsky on that top line, not Avery. I don’t even consider Avery for a second. We need someone who has the ability to put the puck on the net, and Avery’s not that guy.
He gets a pass from Richards or Butt-Chin, and the puck goes flying into Michael Douglas’ little daughters face!
is 11 minutes a lot?
per game, that is…
Avery gets 11 minutes? That seems perfect to me!
You’re exactly right, Orr. He got ice time. He had his scoring chances last season and didn’t execute. It’s that simple. He has a role now. 4th line/spare forward. He’ll probably alternate with Rupp…
I still enjoy Aves for his antics and personality. I think he’ll be a fun part of 24/7.
I’m glad I don’t make these decisions. At least well have the summer to see what combos work.
that is 3.6 minutes a period… no pp time, rarely any pk time, if at all. Can’t really be productive like that and yet Avery was able to collect bunch of assists.
If Avery can’t do anything in 11 minutes, then he doesn’t deserve more time.
When he plays well, he gets more time, and Torts has done that for him.
But, everyone still says he’s unfair. Waaah! Gimme a break!
Avery will resign with the Rangers next year…
bull dog line will have a heart attack
MZA-Richards-Gaby = too small to work long term in east
Enough already with the Avery 6 minutes bull carcillo.
Avery averaged 11:14 minutes per game for the year – while doing no PK.
Over the first 15 games of the year, he averaged closer to 15 minutes per game.
He had 1 goal and 6 assists in the first 8 games.
The next 7 of those initial 15 games he had 1 assist.
He had 6 more assists in the 2 games where Gabby went off on the Isles and the Toronto.
That leaves 2 goals and 9 assists = 11 points over the other 66 games he played.
A point every 6 games.
Gotta love when people get creative…
Found this pic of ‘customized’ NYR jerseys… thought youse guys might be amused…
http://tinyurl.com/3poyzcu
If you google image jersey foul… there is some funny stuff on there.
.... and yes i have way to much time on my hands today that i’m randomly googling jersey foul.
I’d like to see Dubi there but, I don’t want to break up the Pack Line…
If he’s willing to take a major paycut, then I can see him re-signing. But, there’s always teams willing to overpay for average players.
I really would like to see Torts put Artie or Step-On on the wing, along with Callaman, and see how they look.
So is Hbo 24/7 going to happen this yr in ny?
Yeah, I’ve heard it’s definitely happening.
Feds says he “wants to play with Butt-Chin and Richards line”
I want Dubi there too, but I don’t think we should break up that line.
AVERY!! AVERY!! AVERY!! :)
Orr..where did u read/hear that? If so, I’m pumped. That’s all good stuff. Torts might blow up but makes for better tv, eh?
Name one forward on out team that wouldnt want to play on that top line.
Buttman has said that the Winter Classic and 24/7 is a package deal.
I could be wrong, but I could have sworn I read Torts commenting on 24/7. So I’m positive it’s happening.
It’ll be pretty damn cool. The whole Jagr side of it will be interesting. I’m not looking forward to seeing him in that clownish orange jersey.
I am, I love the mullet and ill love then Rupp hits the mullet(he Tweeted that). Thanks Orr, more stuff to look forward to.. oh speaking of HBO, game of thones, amazing, I know I’m a little late but its a pretty Damn good show.
Awesome show! HBO finally has good shows again! True Blood, Game Of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire!
Dubi/BR/Gabby
Cally/AA/Feds
Avery/step/WW
Prust/Boyle/rupp
Limited 4th line time
Prust/BB on the PK
I’d rather have Prust with Step, and Wolski. Give the line some toughness.
Oh, also forget to mention Entourage, and Bored To Death. Two good shows.
Last season of Entourage starts later this month! But, there will be a movie!
I ♥ hat tricks!
Feds / Richie / Gaby
Dubi / Artie / Cally
Wolly / Stepan / Wizard
Aves or Rupp / Boyle / Prust
great analysis, dde.
Dublowsky – Richards – Butt-Chin
Step-On – Artie – Callaman
Wolski – Boyle – Prust
Hobbit – Rupp – Feds
Oh, I didn’t even see Dde’s post. Welcome back, broseph!
I agree with Carp, great analysis.
Did I mention that I ? hat tricks??
♥
Why is everyone hating on Avery so much?
I don’t hate Avery, but I just get annoyed when people blame Torts for Avery’s lack of production, and make it seem like Avery can improve the team with more ice time.
Avery is an average player. He fills a certain role. Guys like him don’t consistently help win you games, or Cups. I just don’t get the fascination NYR fans have with him, and why they make it seem like he can magically transform himself, and the entire team just by getting eight more minutes, more or less, I just don’t get it!
“Name one forward on out team that wouldnt want to play on that top line.”
“I don’t know … seems like a lot of work. I mean, that’s atleast 20 minutes per game, isn’t it? I don’t know, man …” – Eric Christensen #40
(Erik. Dammit.)
Nice post, ddeb. I like your analysis too. Those facts should help clear things up…

timbits from timmys and wiser’s.
Hi gang. Sorry I seemed to just disappear last night. I actually fell asleep on the blog. Opps?
I could see Dubi B-RICH gabby
AA Step Cally
Fedz Boyle prust
Avery Rupp Mza
That cartoon is awesome. Although I wonder why Gomez looks like Pillow Hands…
btw were so lucky to have a great back up in biron. He could be a starter on many teams.
mickey
you on FB?
If you want a bit more of a defencive player on that line, then feds or prust. If you don’t care about defencive accountability on that line, then WW or dubi, who are both defencively on par with avery.
is mickey asleep again?
Danny Boy, you forgot about WW!
Question: Isn’t it Prince “HA-keem”?
Vat is dat, velvet?
Thanks guys.
Not hating on Avery, CCCP. It’s just that when the number given as Averys ice time (6 min) is so far from the real number (11:14) it tells me somebody’s not overly concerned with the truth.
Probably an honest mistake though. Kind of like when you did the same thing :P
Orr – I was reading your thread with bulldog from yesterday, the one where 4everanger commented on the maturity you were displaying. I had noticed the same thing as 4everanger and I thought to myself – “my boy is growing up” I have to say it was bittersweet and I got a little tear in my eye. I was just glad Grabby, ZzZz or especially Mess weren’t around for fear it might become contagious.
lol wicky with the Dubi D again
LOL! Like I said last night, I’m saving it for the upcoming season!!
&heart;
Ha-ha
wicky, I’m on FB, but not right now. Also, I didn’t fall asleep, I was on the phone!
ddebened,
the Marcel Avery fans do not like facts. that was very wrong of you to give them the facts. Bobby Avery is great, and don’t you forget it.
Haha…
Q: The very first time you played at the Garden?
Richards: I remember facing off against Mark Messier . . . very nervous. . . . I got two assists that game, it was a pretty nice moment for me, pretty cool moment.
Q: You didn’t stop to ask for Messier’s autograph?
Richards: No, I was just hoping he didn’t crosscheck me.

Well, that didn’t work…
Let me try again: !heart; No!!!
I need Master ORR again.
I love that Richards will wear No. 19 and some people still remember Jean Ratelle.
Richards can bring many of the same qualities. A classy No. 1 center that produces points.
Went back to take a look at Ratelle’s career, which was just outstanding.
He produced 3 more seasons of 85pts+ after being traded to Boston.
Somehow the Rangers never figured how to honor him for playing in parts of 16 seasons.
Yet they put Graves # up in the rafters for playing 10 yrs (with dramatically lower point totals), basically slapping Andy Bathgate in the face along the way.
Bathgate only scored more than anyone in the NHL over an 8 year period and won the Hart trophy. From 1956-1963, Bathgate finished in the Top 5 in scoring EVERY year. Wow.
Here’s the bulk of Ratelle’s NYR career.
1964-65 New York Rangers NHL 54 14 21 35
1965-66 New York Rangers NHL 67 21 30 51
1966-67 New York Rangers NHL 41 6 5 11
1967-68 New York Rangers NHL 74 32 46 78
1968-69 New York Rangers NHL 75 32 46 78
1969-70 New York Rangers NHL 75 32 42 74
1970-71 New York Rangers NHL 78 26 46 72
1971-72 New York Rangers NHL 63 46 63 109
1972-73 New York Rangers NHL 78 41 53 94
1973-74 New York Rangers NHL 68 28 39 67
1974-75 New York Rangers NHL 79 36 55 91
1975-76 New York Rangers NHL 13 5 10 15

I’m with you too:
WTB?dde practicing his latin on us? Cool, bro.
Just a slow day…
Jimbo, I use to work in Woodside and people from this area are mostly nice and not too judgmental, with great ability to learn.
It’s
prettyhardeasy onceyouget hang ofitYes, Rod, you are. And you’ve done great!
@hearts; your approach lately. And I enjoy your posts.
Carp and ilb… it’s nearly midnight in July and you were expecting sanity here?
Oops! ♥
It is
prettyharder, EASY !ok…I think we’re all having too much fun with this ;)
Well, I wasn’t really trying to be judgmental – but tonight’s activities seem a little weird, even for here! ;-D
It is pretty hard er, EASY !
That’s what she said. Cough
On a rare hockey note, I also have wondered why Jean Ratelle never has been “honored” at an MSG event – he was a true star in his day, a product of the Ranger farm system, and a class guy, as far as I understand it – why was he forgotten, I wonder?
I’d give Stepan a shot on the left wing with Richards and Gaborik. Right handed shot off the left wing. He might surprise. Less defensive responsibilities than center. Let him learn how to distribute the puck from Richards. They’ll switch when, and if he is ready to take over.
Wolski “I’m not going to let not playing on the top line ruin my fall”
Mickey!!!?
Mickey!
I answered you late last night, you had departed this “blog” by then. Sorry. How’s everything?
Hello, everyone else!
ILB- in seriousness- I can see Stepan flourishing as a winger. I’m more concerned about the players we put at center being able to win faceoffs this year. Last season was a disaster in that area and they’ll need to improve upon that beyond Richards.
Hi, Latona!
Carp, any opinions on Ratelle? You’ve been covering the Rangers forever – why is he not a “star emeritus”?
Jimbo,
Well, every Ranger fan I know – and I certainly count myself in there for sure – love Adam Graves. How could anyone not?
At the same time, there was published information at the time that the retiring of Graves # was being ‘pushed’ by the extra millions that would be generated for MSG.
I remember hearing more than a few retired Rangers had to weigh in with the suits just to get Bathgate and Howell recognized, as originally their contributions and numbers were going to be ‘honored’ but not retired.
There wouldn’t be such a push for Ratelle, though the Garden is sold out every night.
Some of it is how TV ratings tran$late as well. Some of it, frankly, is now peoples’ memories too. Ratelle was dealt coming up on 40 years ago (!!!), so there’s basically a few generations that never saw him play. He was the sh*t.
Scary how time flies. Heard the Bowie song “Let’s Dance” the other day. Not my fav but not a bad song at all. I remember when it was came out and was on the charts.
But the DJ came on and said it was released in 1983.
That’s almost 30 years ago!!!
Yeah, Rod – but you know, his linemate and longtime buddy Rod Gilbert is there at the Garden all the time – I think he has some official emeritus job with the organization – so why not Ratelle? I realize that he’s not a New York resident like Gilbert is, but still…..
♥
I love “Gravey” too – but Ratelle was a product of the organization, and one of the very well-respected Rangers throughout the league.
You’re right about time flying, though – 40 years – yikes!
Jimbo?!?
I’ve felt like carcillo all day, Latona, but otherwise good. You?

fivesixI remember 83 like it was yesterday…
No, I’m kidding. I don’t recall that year at all since I wasn’t around, only being 26 ya know..
seven
I with ya Jimbo.
Thinking about it, can’t even remember last time I saw Ratelle at a Ranger function or ceremony, etc.
Would be at all surprised if he’s still stung by the trade.
Gilbert & Ratelle played together from when they were teenagers in Guelph.
To show how totally screwed up some things were in that era, imagine this;
Gilbert, the all-time Rangers, scores 27 goals and 48 assists, 75 pts in 77 games.
The next year, not even 20 games in, Ferguson (his arch nemesis from Montreal but now Ranger GM) wants to trade/cut him. Gilbert retires instead.

Gilbert was 35 at the time, but nowadays those numbers might earn you,
say, a $58.5M contract!
“Star recognition” has more to do with recency, and P.R. than historical merit. Thus the snubs toward Park, Ratelle, Howell, Bathgate, and two others… No one here, there or anywhere ever mentions two of the greatest players in National Hockey League history, and they played right here: Bill Cook and Ching Johnson. If the Rangers could add RW Cook and D Johnson, at 25 years of age, to this coming season’s roster, we would win the Cup in a walk.
I’m hanging in there, Mick. Glad to hear you’re doing okay, feel better!
Yeah – that byfuglien Ferguson was a real piece of carcillo – and totally inept at anything other than pummeling weaker opponents on the ice….he had NO skill as a coach or GM…
Another instance of the NYR hiring a guy who tormented them throughout his career – and who finished tormenting them while in their employ!

I’m really sorry that I never saw Andy Bathgate play as a Ranger – I think he was still in the league when I became a fan (think he was with the Penguins at that point), but I never saw him play for us…...
Hey Latona – still in recovery? How are you feeling?

Yup, Jimbo, taking it easy. Been trying to be somewhat more and more active each day, but not overdoing it. I’ve missed out on a few things I would have liked to have done, but, some R&R is never a bad thing. Soreness, however, is. But I digress. How are you?
Thanks, Latona. Hope you are feeling better, too.
hello to all….and to all, hello

I think eddie refers to Mickey as “meeska” or “mooska” due to the long-standing chant as seen on The Mickey Mouse Club.
jimbo – its and ode to mickey mouse clubhouse…the magic words are meeshka, mooooshka, mickey mouse…then the clubhouse appears…

FWIW, I think everyone is a little off on Avery. I am absolutely nuetral on him (sorry mama and mrs wicky) at this point. When he first came to the rangers he was more valuable to the team than he is now, but his style of play has changed quite a bit.
I blame the change on the NHL and the suspension/counselling. While torts openly admitting when he got here avery’s antics would not fly with him, certainly did not help, the die was already cast by the league.
When Avery plays like old Avery he is useful, when he doesn’t, he is overpaid (at full salary) substantially. He played his best when he was under renney and on jagr’s line.
Maybe if he does play on a line with Richards he will rediscover a bit of a goal scoring touch as well as his “edge” if the NHL will allow it and the coach feels it is “within the limits”.
Either way, most are a bit too polarized on their opinions of him IMHO.
Mickey?
Umm anyone?
Hattie
Sorry I left gang. Dozed off again. eddies gets ♥ for my new nickname.
