July 1: Get the checkbooks out!

The festivities begin at noon.

The read I’m getting is that the Rangers are going hard for Brad Richards, but they expect several teams to be involved — maybe even a surprise team or two — and if they whiff on him, they won’t go for another big-ticket guy.

They might also try to add a piece here or there, but Richards will be Glen Sather’s only major target today. At least that’s what I’m hearing.

Look at the bright side. No matter what happens, it won’t be the worst free-agency day in Rangers history. Right?

Will be back by noon, at least, with a Go Time!

In the meantime, here’s that link again. I’ve watched it several times, and it cracks me up every time.

Pre-season news: Because of the renovations at the Garden and the Europe trip, I’m hearing the Rangers will only play three preseason games on this side of the pond. Two of those will be against the Devils, one in Albany (hear that Julie?!) and one in Newark; then they will play in Philly and fly directly out of there to Europe.

Prior to that, training camp opens Sept. 16 with physicals, and I suspect the next day on the ice — and unless John Tortorella has softened (he hasn’t), there won’t be pucks for the first two or three days.

About Author

  1. Why don’t we sign Richards to the type of deal that Buffalo just did…. Richards already said that he wants this to be his last contract…. do am 8 year 40 million dollar deal…. year 1: 8mil, 2:8 million 3:7 million 4:5 million 5: 5 million 6: 3 million 7: 2 million 8: 2 million. That’s an easy 5 million cap hit… and if need be towards the end of the contract it can be bought out for cheap or he can retire…

  2. If you are following Brad Richards on Twitter, you get the impression that the guy only cares about one thing: Lobsters.

  3. This gave me a good early morning laugh, not just because he wants Drury, but because of how he spelled his name!

Honestly I am a leaf fan. I don’t want them to over pay for richards. He is just not worth 8-10 Million. They are better off with Criss Durry for 1 or 2 mil. He still can play top center for them baring physical health. Same problem we face with Richards too he could be one concussion away from being a Marc Savard

  4. Eric Cole, Marco Sturm, and Simon Gange could also be of use to the NYR. Of the 3, I would’t mind signing Cole….

  5. Johnny LaRue on

Re: Sather’s checkbook, I’m guessing he went with the clown and balloon design.

  6. I wonder if we do miss on Richards, whether Slats is going to work the phones to deal. I always trust him with trades anyway.

  7. LinCalPrustBoylahan©is hoping today is not known as SLATSAGEDDON© on

Glennies getting his fireproof oven mitts to handle the checkbook today!!!

  8. LinCalPrustBoylahan©is hoping today is not known as SLATSAGEDDON© on

ILBZO, BANJ and NORA, check your FB messages for a request from me lol

  9. hello all. my nerves are taking over my whole body.

im here all day. working from home. its my fav day of the year that is until sather makes us all puke.

its richards or bust it looks like. i like bust better. stay put dont waste money on this class

  10. LinCalPrustBoylahan©is hoping today is not known as SLATSAGEDDON© on

Well put Eric! If he wants mad money, blah, sign OUR guys!! Just because ya have the money doesn’t mean you gotta spend it, and like Torts said, you shouldnt have to talk someone into wanting to be here!

  11. gregm_section403 on

Sather drives a hard bargain with his own RFAs, but when it comes to UFAs, he’s a pussycat. AS soon as he hears his target may go somewhere else, he gets nervous and overpays by 30-40% more than any other team was willing to pay.

July 1 always sucks for Rangers fans. Except last year, when the Rangers didn’t do anything big.

Remember: Richards is only a 20-25 goal, 70-80 point a season guy, and that is his ceiling. He’s a playmaker. Period. Reminds me of another ‘playmaker’ the Rangers threw the checkbook at a few years back. See: Gomez, Scott.

  12. Leino is overrated. He’s the guy the will get signed to an expensive contract that he wont live up to.

Forget Cole, Gagne, and Sturm! Go with the youth!

I am interested in signing this “Criss Durry” guy. Sounds like he has potential.

  13. orr, i agree with you on gagne and sturm. but, i think leino is going to be a great sign for somebody. his contract will be reasonable (prob around what cally and dubi get $3.5-4mill range) he has a ton of skill and has never been given the top 6 minutes or PP time he should with philly and det. all i hear from so called experts is that he has a huge offensive upside. i could be wrong and you cold be right but i would keep an eye on him today and in future. i wouldnt be upset of the rangers took a run at him

cole is another guy who is going to be a great signing. prob around $3-3.5 million. this guy scores goals in big games and still can FLY on the wing.

i look at it this way- richards = $7million, leino and cole=$7million. what would you do?

  14. Any word on whether an enforcer is on the radar? It’s a lot to ask of Prust to take on the Trevor Gillies of the league all season long, especially after his surgery.

  15. I wasn’t looking forward to this day and now that it is here I’m sick to my stomach. I’ve been reading how Richards is the only decent free agent on the market and how teams are going to bid to get him and overpay and I know Moron Sather is going to throw stupid money at this guy. This could turn out worse than redden, Gomez and Drury’s contracts put together. This could be the day ranger fans will remember that the rangers died. This will kill the rangers going forward especially when the new CBA will likely have a smaller cap ceiling.

  16. If you guys want to have some fun, check out the archives and reactions to previous July 1st’s.

    HIGH comedy.

  17. nyr13 – you still take Richards. Cole is a waste of time and money. He’s older and has already show he’s out of his element once you pull him out of Carolina. Leino had a great season, but is that the norm for him? He’s also going to be looking for a four- to five-year deal. And most of all, in signing those two, you’re grabbing two guys that sort of fit the Rangers’ needs. But not really. There’s only one guy who is a hole-in-one to solve a bedeviling problem for the Rangers and that’s Richards. Sign him, or go home. Those are the two options.

  18. CTBlueshirt on

Leino got sheltered minutes on the Flyers. Richards and Carter were their guys to play vs the opposing top 6.

  19. As Torts would say, +stay the course!!+

He would also say, play within yourself, next question, fugg you, etc,

Seriously, as *I* always say, Sather needs to continue his “Michael Jackson” ways, and stick to the youth. No old guys, they just can’t help us.

  20. Onecupin72yearsandcounting on

I doubt Richards signs with NY. With the exception of Jagr and Shanny , Sather is awful at FA signings…

  21. Manny Mania on

Fire Sather? Fire Richards? Panic? Who did we get? Who did we give up? WHAT? How much did we pay? WHAT? THAT’S TOO MUCH! PANIC!!!!!!!!

  22. czechthemout!!!! on

I find it bizzare how so many fans are willing to bring in other teams drek instead of calling for more opportunity for the home grown players to get the chance instead. I can understand wanting a very good not plAyer like Richards to come in and fill a hole but Eric Cole? Villie Laino? Give me a break! Come on guys!

  23. Boom Boom Bathgate on

If we sign Richards – “To help Gaborik’s production,” what if BOTH go down to serious injury, during the season. I mean, you talk about coals to Newcastle, what next, THREE more FA’s next year to compensate for two lost careers this year? Sather is like “Big Government,” – got a problem = just throw more money at it. Never tighten your belt. Always make the public or someoen else pay and compensate for YOUR mistakes.

This default philosophy of spending your way to glory is utterly vulgar, same as the man at the wheel. And his boss is an enabler woman, if you ask me. What a disgusting pair of whores – Donlan and Sather.

  24. one cup, jagr was a trade wasnt he?

i get it that leino has to prove himself more , but the guy has already done more in the league than dubinsky (post season especially) and he is still 27. given more icetime and responsibility he should put up better numbers than dubi or cally. he put up the same numbers last season with less ice time and no PP minutes.

i disagree with the cole comment. he was in edmonton! nobody would have been successful there. i watched a lot of canes games late last season the guy can still play. he scored 26 goals in 2011 and i=still has legs and is a big man.

  25. Philly might be the 4th team talking to Jagr. Ugh! Imagine that. LOL! I wonder how the Pens fans would react to that!

Maybe the Yotes could be involved. They have a star Czech d-man who can persuade Jags to join up.

    They are “Rangers-West” after all.

  26. just for the record, i never said to get cole and leino instead of richards i just put that out there as plan B. i would rather have richards and the same group of forwards we have now rather than no richards and the cole and leino

  27. So I’m sitting outside of Murrays Bagel in NYC and a friggen brinks truck pulls up right in front of me and and is from Dallas, TX!! Ohhh man this is too funny! An early sign that Richards is on his way?!

  28. Nyr, Leino hasn’t done all that much. He had one great year in the playoffs, then scored 19 goals last season, in his first full year.

All this while playing with either Richards, Carter, or Briere.

Signing him would be a mistake, unless they get him cheap, which probably wont happen.

  29. Leino has only done more than Dublowsky, because he’s on better teams. Wings, and Flyers, much more talented overall than NYR.

Dublowsky is better, for sure. You put him on the Wings, and Flyers, and he puts up better numbers, most likely.

And there’s no upside to signing him. The guy’s 27. He’s only going to score 20 goals or less. Pass!

  30. Manny Mania on

Cole and Leino just make it more difficult to find spots for our homegrown little guys to develop.

  31. I’d rather sign Zenon Konopka, a defenseman with a rocket from the point like Babchuk, and someone who can score 20 goals or so like Gagne to affordable deals then repeat the Vicious Cycle of Doom by signing Richards.

  32. nyr13 – still no. That Edmonton team wasn’t bad and it was one that Cole chose himself through free agency. He’s 33 and he’s going to be looking for a long term deal. He’s about as sensible a signing as Matt Cullen was several years ago.

Sign Richards or go home. Those are my options.

Czechthemout!! – I’m with ya’, though I think Thomas is juniors bound. Bourque, however, is either in Hartford or New York.

Orr – I read somewhere that the fourth(assuming Montreal, Pittsburgh and Detroit are three) is the Flyers. I can’t see him doing that, but I also didn’t see him bolting from what he had in New York.

  33. Manny Mania on

+thanks, Orr!+ No Matter what David says, I think you’re a great internet friend.

  34. With Sheldon Souray being bough out you can bet Slats will go after him once he clears waivers. I’d rather go after Cam Barker who was bought out. Wonder if Torts will puch for former Lightning d-man Shane O’Brien.

As for forwards, if we don’t get Brad Richards I might go for a one-year cheap deal with Andrew Brunette. He is 37, but has only missed two games during the last six years since the lockout. He has averaged about 23 goals (9 on the PP) and 37 assists.

Another forward I might kick the tires on is Anthony Stewart. He had career highs last year in Atlanta (80-14-25-39). He is 26 and is a 6-2/235 RW. He made about $650,000 last year so the Rangers might be able to get him for a decent price.

  35. Manny Mania on

ORR!! Great point. Prust needs a lighter workload and I happen to agree with you that Zenon Konopka would be a GREAT addition.

Carcillo scares me because we all hate him so much and seeing him here might be a bit of a tough feeling for a few of our heroes. You never know though.

  36. CTBlueshirt – Leino is technically a center. I think Filthy moved him over to wing because of their depth. I agree though. He’s no answer to the Rangers’ woes. Connolly would be a better answer, and that’s more to emphasize how wrong of an answer Leino would be. I guess they could sign him for secondary scoring. But he’d be expensive(probably $4 million-plus over five years).

  37. Phil, he didn’t necessarily “bolt”. Slats didn’t give him the contract he wanted, and he didn’t want to play for another team.

But, I agree, I can’t see him doing that. I’m sure he wants to repair his image with the Pens fan base, and signing with the Flyers, only makes it worse.

No problem, Manny! Do I contribute to the blog as best as I can? I really hope I do :P

  38. hey guy, gotta get to work, but theyre sayin that richards wont make a decision right at 12 anyway. be back for the craziness later! be good heads.

  39. orr, i disagree. leino played mostly with hartnell and powe and saw no PP time yet still put up almost the same numbers as dubinsky. phillys first 2 lines were richards, giroux, briere and carter, jvr, and versteeg

one thing i have learned from this and other boards is that most ranger fans over rate there own. things like “thomas and hagelin before cole and leino” are crazy….we fall in love with the thought that MAYBE one of the NYR draft picks becomes a legit 1st liner. when has the ever happened? not since 1990 (savard, weight, amonte, kovelev). why not get guys who have proven themselves, or in leino’s case somewhat proven themselves in NHL rather than hold on to a pipe dream that we have great prospects. yes thomas could be really deal or hagelin could score 30 goals in NHL someday. but what are these ideas based on? 3 scrimmages vs guys who aren’t even in hartford yet? a season in JR’s? tons of players score huge points in JR hockey and become 3rd and 4th liners in the NHL

    sorry for that rant

  40. oh before i go, i think i jus aw hank inteh crowd at wimbledon orr. i know u like ladies tennis, but u should watch tsonga vs djokovich(sp)? very good game.

  41. I also think that Derek Stepan will be a 30 goal 50+ assist player if he has the right guys on his wing.

  42. again, i am not saying go sign cole and leino…all i said in my original post was that they would be good signings for some teams not necessarily the rangers

  43. i don’t think cole(will be 33 in nov) is looking for a huge pay day. leino would be looking for years though, but he is 27

  44. DJK, i agree stepan has potential to be a great center with scorers around him

  45. Manny Mania on

    Yea Stepan, go Stepan.

That kid showed flashes of brilliance. I think he has TONS of potential. Remember he’s only like 13 or something like that.

  46. Actually, Leino *did* see PP time, with Briere and Hartnell, most of the year.

Playing with Briere, is a reason why he racked up so many assists, it could be safe to assume.

The thing with Dublowsky is, he has upside, whereas, with Leino, what you see is what you get. I highly doubt he’ll be anymore than what he is. Just my opinion.

  47. CTBlueshirt on

In a thin UFA market with a decent raise in the cap players with any sort of track record are going to demand as much as possible.

  48. Pfft. Carp and his “insight”. I get alliance need to know from real *somebodies* like Rod Lurks and those who post deadly accurate iBob tweets and the millionth Dubi-for-Cogliano trade variant.

What’s a good analogy for our current cap space number and roster? The most glorious ice sculpture? You just want to keep staring because you know its only a matter of hours before its just a puddly mess.

  52. Olga Folkyerself on

There’s still time to FIRE SATHER!

What ever he does or doesn’t do, it will be the wrong thing.

  53. orr, i respect your opinion. we can debate this again after next season and see who is right

  54. Let’s Go Slats!!! Make it count!!

I also wonder where Jags ends up today!!

  55. Johnny, some day you will do me a favor, and that day is today.

    Andrew, that’s hilarious and spooky.

    Good morning, Sally!

Just Say No to Gagne and Connolly and all those whose heads are mushy.

    Fire Sather, hire Brad Pitt.

  57. Doodie Machetto on

“Just Say No to Gagne and Connolly and all those whose heads are mushy.”

Richards doesn’t exactly have a coconut.

  58. If there are no pre-season games at the Garden, why was I charged for three of them? Seems the Rangers jacked me for 240 bucks.

  59. gregm_section403 on

Yeh, Richards’ head also has at least 1 ding. Run away as fast as you can and don’t look back!

  60. remember yesterday someone posted a tsn link with an article “A LOOK AT THE NHL UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENT MARKET” that had Steve Dubinsky? lol

i sent an email to Scott Cullen who wrote the article… just got his response.

    I wrote:

    “Hey Scott,

Who’s Steve Dubinsky? It’s Brandon Dubinsky… i guess you didn’t bother to look up his name.”

    Scott wrote:

“Steve Dubinsky used to play for the Blackhawks. It wasn’t a matter of looking it up – I’m actually aware of Brandon Dubinsky’s name.

    Anyhow, it’s been corrected.

LMFAO! Steve Dubinsky used to play for the Blakhwaks? OK but what does it have to do with the Rangers? schmuck…

  61. I can see Sather picking up a 6-7th d-man at a bargain. Why not Huskins? Won a cup with Anaheim. I went to college with him at Clarkson, good and steady, nothing flashy.

    Kent Huskins, D, San Jose

    TSN.ca Rating: 61.83

    Stats 2-8-10, +8, 12, 50 GP

    ’10-’11 Cap Hit: $1.7M

Comment: Veteran plays a no-frills game, but reliable third-pair defender.

  62. again, for me, no reason to run away from someone simply because of a prior concussion(s). old age+concussion, maybe.

  63. Would not be opposed to Konopka or a faceoff guy like Belanger.

I could see the Isle picking up Carcillo and putting him alongside Gillies for a sideshow.

  64. ugh really? is this POS back again? i was actually looking forward to reading the comments here today but I might run if this SOB will ruin the day. grow the byfuglien up.

  65. Lev, I will just keep on blocking his IP address while our legal guys handle it. Meanwhile, Mets are 5-12.

  66. Rumor: Sather Won’t Enter a Bidding War for Richards

The latest from Larry Brooks of the New York Post:

If Richards is going to make his choice purely on dollars, then the Rangers are extremely unlikely to become involved in a bidding war, let alone win one.

If that’s not enough, however, it is unimaginable that the Garden will throw more (and more and more) at No. 91 to entice him to play Broadway.

If it’s truly going to take an eight- or nine-year front-loaded deal worth between $55-60 million to sign Richards Buffalo is believed preparing an offer even larger in scope — and if Richards is going to need a match to become a Ranger, Sather will hold on to his cash for a later day and another option.

  67. Why is everyone pining for a player whose average PIM per game is like 30% of his ATOI. You can’t really take defensive zone faceoffs or PK when you’re the one in the box.

  68. Buffalo will have to shed some payroll to fit in Richards and re-sign RFAs to fill out their roster.

  69. The guy is a faceoff Beast and we were 25th in the league last year in that stat.

Plus he can lighten Prusts fight oad

  70. Prust needs to share that load. After a while it becomes more than “just pain.”

  71. The conventional wisdom is that Stamkos will sign in Tampa…I still think it’s weird that he isn’t signed…An offer sheet isn’t the craziest idea, as some think…

The owner of the Baby Buffaloes may offer B. Rich 10 years. It would be a fantastic thing if Slats didn’t match!!!

I am still LMAO from B. Rich’s tweet from last night!!

  72. Lin, re: your suggestion for a live chat … I think those make it more difficult for comments to get through, and they are monitored, and limited in number. I just think on a day like today, if I stay in the comments section with youse, it serves the same purpose and allows everybody to comment any time a thought crosses their mind (or jibberish (gibberish)).

  73. @BRichards_1991
Brad RichardsBig day tomorrow. Very open minded to all the situations that will be presented. To bad I couldn?t try them all?. Will be good to move on

    He tweeted that last night!

  74. Carp any good behind-the-scenes stories of big free agent signings from your days on the beat? Gretzky in ’96, perhaps? Fleury in ’99? Messier in 2000?

  75. NHL.com had Konopka at 30th in faceoffs won, but like 47th in faceoff taken. It’s also the only year he’s been up that high.

And if Richards comes to NY you’ll have him, AA, Stepan and Boyle as centers.

  76. Too bad I can’t attend with you, darn it. You want someone who can be a 4th line center, fight, and score an odd goal or two- sign Mike Rupp. Hard working, honest NHLer who can handle better fighters than Prust and Konopka.
If Buffalo is planning to offer THAT to Richards- it could make Sather’s job very easy. Stay put.

  77. sami salo back to nucks for 1 yr extension

james wizneski reached agreement with columbus 6 yrs 33 mil. over 5 mil.

    eaves resigns in detroit

  78. czechthemout!!!! on

This will be the most anti climactic day since frequency darted. Other than Richards, there is no one left that would even draw as much as a yawn. NHL network will broadcast 5 hours of carcillo today.

  79. I think Konopka would be a pretty nice match although I doubt it happens.

Either way if the Rangers pass on Richards, gotta go after D’Agostini or Kennedy and then make the trade for that #1 center. Signing one of those two young guys would help in the likely event, Anisimov and/or Zuccarello would need to moved…

  80. czechthemout!!!! on

It looks like there are owners of teams waiting in the lobby of his agents office to make him offers. I think Sather should play it exactly the way Brooks is saying. Make him a good offer but not one that will hamstring the team from signing their rfa’s.

  81. Dreger said that teams will line up to make presentations to Richards today and that Richards is expected to mull them all over and take his time.

I don’t want the guy if it’s gonna mean paying him like a top 10 in the league player, which he is not now, never was, and will never be.

  82. 4generations 4 cups on

This is going to be another Kovalchuk/Sundin/Forsberg/Niedermayer/Favre/Every year guy

  83. DJK,

Sure, Richards isn’t a top ten player in the league, but I’d reckon he’s in the top ten or fifteen centers in the league. And the Rangers do not have any centers in that category, so they need to fill a need. If they overpay, it isn’t worth it, but I have some confidence in Sather for once.

  84. Doodie Machetto on

“NHL network will broadcast 5 hours of carcillo today.”

    Only 5? That’s a 19 hour improvement for them!

  85. the thing is unless Richards signs for 8.5+ mil cap hit, the Rangers will still have PLENTY of cap room for all their RFAs.

Thats why I dont really have a problem with signing him since it really doesnt hurt them in the next two years…

  86. czechthemout!!!! on

The te does not have anyone like him now, but may in the next season or two. Don’t break the bank for him. He is not worth it.

  87. 4generations 4 cups on

Wisniewski was worth/was going to get 5.5m a year anywhere.

No. That does not jack up the price for Richards. lol.

  88. Latona? Have you had any visions of what will occur today while you were hopped up on meds?

  89. eric

Gaborik’s contract comes off the books then, same with Girardi. Still plenty of cap room…

  90. Wisniewski is a nice player not a 5 mil a year player. Sorry I think that is overpriced…3.5 to 4 mil at best…Not paying a guy that much who had one good season…

  91. Carp,

I’m not really in too much actual pain; just very, very sore. Hard to move. It’s all just very weird to me, on Tuesday night I was sitting in my living room doing a crossword puzzle, and then on Wednesday night, I was sitting in a hospital bed doing a crossword puzzle, but with a missing body part!

Unfortunately, I haven’t had any Ranger visions. I did, however, dream a recurring dream with entirely different people in it. So I dunno. Maybe that says something about the Rangers.

  92. Well Latona. Feel better and keep taking as much Peyote as the doctors will give you. Let me know after you find your spirit beast what types of moves the Rangers will be making today.

  93. somebody posted earlier to make richards an offer like erhoff got. makes sense. front load it so he get a ton up front and the back end is low and annual hit is around 5.5-6 so he can be bought out on the cheap or he will just retire having already made most of the $ in the contract

    8 yrs- $44million $5.5cap hit

    2012-$12mill- 31yrs old
    2013-$12mill-32 yrs old

makes it a little more tolerable

  94. Mister Delaware on

If 24 hours from now all our RFAs are safe and all we’ve done is add Konopka, I’ll be the happiest boy in Boston.

  95. ilb,

Don’t apologize! I had appendicitis and had to get my appendix removed.. fortunately, it hadn’t ruptured, or raptured, as we’d say around here. Manny actually said I should have asked you to be my doctor! Thanks, though.

Spirit beast? I thought I was looking for the flying spaghetti monster!

  96. czechthemout!!!! on

Give Stamkos 10 and 120mill. Frontload the first four years at 25 mill per year and call it a day.

  97. Czech- playe’rs salary in any year, including bonuses, cannot exceed 20% of total cap. $12.8M would have to be max.

  98. Yup, ilb, very sore. I’m not too worried though. Anything beats the pain I was in prior to the surgery.. I hope none of you ever get appendicitis!

  99. Just now: Huray-y-y-y-!!!!
There will be no Jaromir Jagr in Pittsburgh next season. The pittsburgh Penguins have withdrawn their offer for the Czech forward, a move they announced by e-mail just minutes ago. “We made what we thought was a very fair contract offer to Jaromir on Tuesday, based on his stated interest of returning to the Penguins,” GM Ray Shero said in the statement. “We made our best offer from the start, given our salary cap structure, in an attempt to facilitate the deal. But now, after several days, with an extended time frame for making a decision, and additional teams getting involved, we have decided to move in a different direction. It was never our intention to get involved in a free-agent bidding war, and we have to focus on our team. Jaromir is one of the greatest pLayers in Penguins history and we wish him all the best.”

  100. Thanks Latona. I hope I never get it either. Nice job biting the bullet and getting it for all of us. That was very noble and brave of you.

  101. Mister Delaware on

I know we’re going way off topic here, but how did you know it was appendicitis and not a terrible stomach ache. Like what was the tipping point there?

  102. I don’t think you could structure a contract like that where there’s such a large drop from year 4 to 5.

  103. Forget Stamkos is right. All these offer sheets are useless. I’m out again, wicky will keep me in the loop.

  104. wicky(grating PIBG)© (Non visor wearing male, 26, holder of 5 LLPs!!) on

    morning ILB and all!!

so all of a sudden jagr not signing with the pens?? Anyone else here not shocked to see that bs move?

I bet carp’s got the mulcher all ready to go!

I hate to sound like oddball from kelly’s heroes, but enough with all the negativity out there!!! sheesh!

  105. wicky(grating PIBG)© (Non visor wearing male, 26, holder of 5 LLPs!!) on

jagr is such a prima donna putz!

  106. wicky(grating PIBG)© (Non visor wearing male, 26, holder of 5 LLPs!!) on

I hope jagr goes to the flyers, he deserves them. Carcillo and jagr are about on par with each other wait that isn’t fair to carcillo.

  107. I will forget aboot Stamkos when the ink dries on his contract…

    LOL! Eklund was right!

  108. Delaware,

I didn’t. I figured it was a terrible stomach virus. I called up my doctor to see if I could get a prescription for Zofram without going in (I was too sick to sit in a doctor’s office), but he told me I should probably just go to the ER. So I did; the doctor there didn’t even suspect appendicitis until I had my CT scan.

  109. wicky

stop hating on Jagr! Just because you want him to make his decision right away, does not mean he has to… he’s looking out for his own interest just as anybody else would.

  110. 16 min. countdown
Slats opens ready his big wallet …or not. Doesn’t matter. Get set…
Gentlemen, start to open your big mouths, collect poisonous spit, sharpen your fingers, in all – get ready…

  111. Crosby does need Man Bear Pig to distract everyone from his own hot dog lips.

  112. wicky(grating PIBG)© (Non visor wearing male, 26, holder of 5 LLPs!!) on

sorry, I just want him to come back to the rangers sooooo bad I can hardly stand it!!

  113. With Jagr, one less thing to worry about. I would hated to see him, who I always admired, against Rangers 6 times a season with team 2nd on my hate list.

  114. Mister Delaware on

XXXXXXX filled by a 2nd tier signing / rookie. Does anyone really hate that roster a lot? Its competitive, with a ton under the cap to jump at the first great opportunity that presents itself.

(And now its about to strike noon so my fantasies of recognizing we’re still a little away and playing it as such will be shattered …)

  115. wicky(grating PIBG)© (Non visor wearing male, 26, holder of 5 LLPs!!) on

He was a great offencive player, but it is just ridiculous to me how bad everyone just falls all over themselves about him here, way overrated in his time with the rangers and a bad leader and those are just facts. If he brought us our first cup in like 54 years or something then I would be fine with him, but he didn’t come any closer than drury did (and people butcher that guy and all he ever did was what he was asked).

When people start being realistic about jagr here, I’ll give him a break.

Everyone better hope he signs in the NHL and not the KHL again!

  116. Mister Delaware on

Latona: You just confirmed my fears that I’d never actually know the difference.

  117. Mister – Our PK is not good enough to have Prust, Avery and Konopka on the ice at the same time.

  118. Mr DE

For what it’s worth, there’s MZA and Erixon to fill out the XXXX spots.

  119. Delaware,

Well, at least you’ll be more cautious with any stomach virus you may have, but I’ll promise you it will be the worst stomach virus you will ever have. My pain was never concentrated on my appendix, which was somewhat odd, I thought.

  120. wicky(grating PIBG)© (Non visor wearing male, 26, holder of 5 LLPs!!) on

so stamkos still has no ning contract?

Hopefully, there will be a trade or two just to make this day interesting.

    I agree with czech

  123. wathcing live on nhl network.

pegula owner of buff will meet with richards in person. rangers not sending anyone in person

  124. I’m cool for change, thanks to Carp, who, as usual, describe it in best terms. I’m perfectly OK with or without Richards. As for money…everything has timely market value, even gas and you either have that kind of money to spend or not. Besides, I never saw, even in animated movies, dollar bills itself playing hockey, people do. Paraphrase Prust: “It’s just money”.

    no no thank you latona!

    Resign Sjostrom!

What about Matt D’Agostini? 24 years old. Scored 21 goals and 25 assists. Plays a hard game is 6.1″ 201 lbs.

  128. wicky(grating PIBG)© (Non visor wearing male, 26, holder of 5 LLPs!!) on

didn’t he resign with the blues?

  129. As per usual, I could care less about how much money the Rangers give to a player. It is always about how many years they lock a player into being overpaid. I could care less that they gave Redden so much money, I hate the fact that they gave him so many years.

thanks guys, for some reason I thought he resigned with them yesterday. My bad!

  132. Torts made it seem like we either make a Big splash or No splash at all

I think thats the best course of action for this young team that really just needs to add a little talent

  133. billybleedsblue on

Carpy — That video is pretty darn funny. “Hi Brad, welcome to the Rangers.” lol

“New Yoooork…Our GM will sure overpay you, but the coach may not play you.”

The Interweb may largely be a giant waste of time, but it’s nice to know there are fools like this to make us laugh, making it all worth it.

  134. Per #Flyers GM Paul Holmgren: The Philadelphia Flyers have agreed to a contract with free agent RW Jaromir Jagr.

  135. Jagr signed with the Flyers because he feels his big butt will look smaller inside black pants. I for one will enjoy seeing him again in the NHL regardless.

  136. Sather spotted on Banff golf course playing 3rd of 5 rounds of golf TODAY. Supposedly part of the Lawrence Taylor re-hab process (in Sather’s case it’s the addiction of over-paying media proclaimed UFAs of the year). 27 deals today so far. Hope someone turned off Slat’s cell phone.

  137. The toe has been dipped. Ranger Rupp reporting for duty. Now that the beast within Sather has been awakened it cannot, it will not be destroyed.
