Draft over, Sather speaks

Rangers president/GM Glen Sather addressed the media in attendance in Minnesota following the draft today and discussed a number of issues, though some of those vaguely, including the futures of Chris Drury and possibly Matt Gilroy, and the trade of Evgeny Grachev for a third-round pick.

Gordie Clark also commented on the Rangers’ picks.

    LEETCH!! (#2)

Some relevant and humorous quotes from a little known hockey movie…

” I got a good deal on those boys. The scouts said they showed a lot of promise. ”

” Jesus, what did the old man trade for these assen-holes, a used puck bag?

  2. I read what Slats had to say, and I suddenly became dizzy. I’m not used to reading so many Slats quotes in one sitting.

I love how we only hear from Slats during training camp, trade deadline, playoffs, draft, then during free agency period.

I wonder what he does in between those dates.

  3. did Sather say he traded Grachev for someone who is more ready to jump in?meaning Fogarty?

  4. ” We just feel that the person that we got in the trade is going to be able to respond a little bit quicker. “

  5. where is Tony i need something “refresh”ing………who was drinking vodka/soda/cran last night?…that sounds refreshing!

  6. Yeah, Clarke thinks he’ll develop quicker. When you’re a Euro Pansy, you need to get used to the smaller rink, and North American hockey, etc.

John Fogerty wont need that time. Not that he’ll be ready by next season.

Why can’t the Isles just move to KC and get it over with? Bet my bottom dollar the new arena deal tanks. A really shifty owner not to be trusted, they have. First year the Isles are the new Kansas City Steers, we can all say: Zero Cups In One Year!

  8. JimboWoodside on

Don’t be so sure that the arena deal will be rejected – almost all of the politicians in Nassau County are lobbying and shilling for the Isles cause – they don’t want to see the pro sports wasteland that is Long Island to be abandoned by the NHL.

  9. JimboWoodside on

Nah, Orr – they will never become Ranger fans. Never. Anyway, there aren’t that many of them to worry about!

  10. JimboWoodside on

The league was smart when they only allowed another NHL team to be as close to the Ranger center of operations as is Buffalo.

If it were not for the WHA’s encroachment on the NHL markets in the early 1970’s, the league would never have allowed a rival team to be headquartered so close to NYC.

  11. Here is the following from New York Post New York Rangers’ beat writer Larry Brooks on his Twitter account:

Sather: Grachev asked out, wanted new start. GM had been shopping him for year, Blues only team interested

Sather would not discuss Drury potential buyout/medical issue

Per Sather: Rangers will open next 3 seasons in Europe, no sites yet selected.

Rangers did not qualify Gilroy, headed to market after rejecting alternate offer

    have at it

Sather : ‘Hey Dolie , how’s my box ” ? reference to msg box.”did you talk to Bloomsy about the no smoking bs? ,Don’t wanna get fined for a cuban or two, by the way I need more of these things from your friend in Cuba.what’s his name”?. Draft? oh the draft , what about it ?
Yeah yeah hold tight, were on target, I thought you meant” wheezer” reference to donnie walsh, what’s he doin pickin a no name? Let Isiah do his thing ,hey my wife’s decorator doesnt like the tile for the john in my box, oh, she’s good she did my fishing lodge in BC, trust her let her do the rotunda.. . The kid? which one. Oh millzie, hey did you check out his mom what a looker, look dolie i got to run..

  13. JimboWoodside on

Good stuff, Onecup……I suspect that it really does play out that way, too……..maybe he’ll ask “Dolie” if he can bring him back a duck from his western Canada hunting expedition….. ;-D

  14. NYR_FAN via Android on

Orr’s correct!!! There are too many dopey NYR fans!!!

I personally believe that Grachev was a 3rd round pick with potential to be an NHL impact player. I think he didn’t get a fair shake here and Slats knows it. He needs 1st line AHL mins and NYR can’t give it to him

  15. wreck, that’s why(zerman) we have that widget up there on the right … so we get those tweets, you know, when(zerman) they happen.

  16. wicky(grating PIBG)© (Non visor wearing male, 26, holder of 5 LLPs!!) on

so no offer to gilly, good move (like the guy, but too pricey)!

I wish we would have been in on regher, he was my third choice on d men to add!

    back to work, later assens!

  17. Good evening all! So, now what(zerman) happens so far?

I am stilling losing it over the zerman thing :) Thanks again for all the wishes yesterday, but I gotta catch up tomorrow…..TA!

  18. guys, i’m just lookin forward to next season no matter who we sign or dont sign, i wanna see torts on hbo’s 24/7. that is gonna be comedy gold, and were gonna kick the bejesus out of philthy too.

  19. Something is telling me that we will “bite our elbows” in a year or to with both Grachev and Gilroy. Just gut’s feeling…Hope I’m wrong.

  20. carp, in the 70’s, did u ever party with dugay n maloney and the other oo la la sassoon guys at studio 54? were u a disco duck?

  21. my ex wife even liked it and she only likes goofy ben stiller movies. and she dont like hockey.

  22. “Oh this young man has had a very trying rookie season, with the litigation, the notoriety, his subsequent deportation to Canada and that country’s refusal to accept him, well, I guess that’s more than most 21-year-olds can handle… Ogie Ogilthorpe!”

  23. gilly i an live with orr. we have deep d corps, but im just a little pissed we couldnt get this guy ready, be it his fault or thje ahl coaching staff, whatever. i just ont think even a year ago we’d be “ok” with getting rid of him without giving him every oppurtunity first.like giving him first part of this season on the top line andtryin to motivate him. i know he needs to earn it, but hes still a young kid orr

  24. David’s back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. He definitely is young, but he’s a little Russian girl. Actually, he’s worse. Little Russian girls are probably tough. He’s not.

Yeah, the coaches may have fugged him up, by playing him on the 4th line, but, minutes are minutes. When you’re on the ice, do something productive, and you’ll be rewarded.

  26. JimboWoodside on

You mean to tell me that if Grachev was lighting it up in Hartford, even when playing on the 3rd or 4th line, that they wouldn’t move him up the roster? Who are they protecting that he wouldn’t be able to move into their spot!? Do we have a Gretzky in Hartford that I’ve not heard about?

Granted, I don’t know anything, but if he was relegated to a 4th line, chances are that he was playing up to the abilities of a 4th line player. They didn’t draft him to be a 4th liner!

  27. JimboWoodside on

He was brought up to the Big Show for 8 games this past season, and he did bupkus(sp?). Did he impress anyone here?

  28. fact of the matter is he didnt produce and he showed nothing in his two years that would suggest he would produce going forward.

just because someone is young doesnt automatically mean you will be good in the future…

  29. It is always, always all my fault. I deeply apologize for the great inconvenience I have caused.

As mom always said, “You are a constant disappointment, not only to yourself, but to your family and friends as well.”

  30. Oleo, true, but it means he has lots of time for improvement.

Jimbo, when you’re getting outplayed by AHL lifers, then you’re clearly not going to work out :P

Good riddance. I don’t want players like him in this organization.

  31. Lol. I’m kidding, folks. I have the best mom ever.

My family and I were just reciting Steven Wright quotes. That guy is freakin’ funny.

  32. JimboWoodside on

I think you’re right, Orr – the NYR organization wanted to make him into an NHL-worthy player, and in 2 years, they couldn’t do it – he wanted out, and probably figured that he would get a fresh start somewhere else.

Maybe our development people are at fault – but he did get a chance to play up here for a short time, he was given a “change of scenery” to see if he would blossom in the pressure of the big leagues, and he really didn’t show us anything.

Maybe JD down in St. Louis sees something that our guys don’t – anything’s possible!

  33. “Right now I’m having deja vu and amnesia at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.”

  34. “I went to a restaurant that serves ‘breakfast at any time.’ I ordered french toast from the Renaissance.”

  35. JimboWoodside on

‘If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.”

I sure can relate to that one! It’s true!

  36. reginald dunlop on

Brophy is the drunk and Hanrahan is the goalie with the lesbian wife…………come on people get it straight……….ha ha ha

  37. Oh crap! I am totally late to the draft bust, Grachev “just another busted hope” trade after party!!

Just hope we didn’t give up on Grachev too early. Only time will tell, I guess.

  38. ORR, you spend a tremendous amount of time on this blog. I am guessing you are in your 20’s……You should put the same amount of passion and time into something more constructive like schooling or a career. Thank goodness the internet was not around at the height of my NY Rangers hang-up/obsessive years (1978-1996)………..I will always remember my Dad yelling at me to do my homework….all i cared about is if bobby carpenter would be the answers to all our prayers with ridley and miller going to the caps….lol……or if johnny orgrodnick would put the puck in the net rather than hitting freakin’ post every game.
