FWIW, the current Cleveland Browns were allowed to have that name even though the Baltimore Ravens are really the old Cleveland Browns. So there is precedent.
I’m happy they kept the Jets name…but then again, I’m more of a traditionalist.
I love this (from ESPN Insider). These “rumblings” are not attributed to anyone.
“Rumblings of a possible trade bringing forward Jason Spezza of the Ottawa Senators to the New York Rangers have become a little louder of late.
But, from where we sit, this deal isn’t going to happen.
Newsday’s Arthur Staple says there’s “no chance” the Rangers are trading for Spezza. And RDS reporter Renaud Lavoie claims Sens GM Bryan Murray has no intention of moving Spezza.”
Pitkanen on average misses 10 games a season. He’s coming off a deal that had a $4M cap hit, so you’d assume he gets more than that as a UFA. He’s generally a 35-40 points per year guy. I’d rather stick with MDZ at about 30% the cost even if you’re losing 10 points in production. He’s not worth the $2.5-3M or so in extra cap hit.
I definitely like the name “The Jets.” They already have merchandise printed and for sale. Why not?
I imagine that the Jets will have to pay a licensing fee or outright purchase the name from Phoenix.

For those that are ready to give up on MDZ, just look at the career progression of guys like Letang, Yandle, Enstrom, Dan Boyle, etc. Half off those guys weren’t in the NHL at 21, let alone 19 when MDZ was. Most of them didn’t start to hit stride until 24-25.

Rumors popping up of the Kings talking with the Avs about Stastny?
According to SNY, The team brought in Ryan Murphy in for a visit last week.
This a kid that I have liked since I read about him last year.
The consensus on him is that he can step in right away and run any powerplay.
He is the best skater in the draft and put up 79 points in 78 games.
He may fall because his defense needs some work and their is some concern about his size.
He is five feet ten inches tall and about 180lbs. About the same as Leech when he came out.
I think if he is there, we should be all over him! I watched some of his highlights and he looks like Leech when he is skating with the puck and deking around opponents. He also has a big time shot
If we can land him, it may allow us to trade MDZ for a good forward prospect.

Here is my 7/11 story….
My friends worked at a Chuckies (7/11 in CT) and I went to visit them. When I was leaving I held the door for some guy. That guy proceeded to hold them up. He put a knife to my friend’s throat while my other friends started emptying the register. Their boss locked them both out with the armed robber and hid in the “safe room” and refused to either call the cops or let them in. (I guess there was no phone in there).
Best part of the story – I held the door for the guy so they didn’t get his prints on the door AND I never looked at his face so I had no idea what he looked like for a description. I was the last one to have the chance to see him without a stocking on his face.

Del Zotto was a point per game player in the OHL, there was concern about his defense too.
Being 5’10” when Leetch was drafted 20+ years ago wasn’t as big a concern.
Trading him still gives the Rangers only true puck moving defenseman in the organization. So what happens if this new guy struggles or goes through a sophomore slump?

Bull! Leech dropped to #9 precisely because he was considered to be small and lacking a good defensive game .intact, when Leech was drafted, Craig Patrick took heat for drafting him too early.
As for MDZ, his numbers were not anywhere near Murphy’s in terms of goals and points . I am not advocating a trade of MDZ. Just suggesting that it can be an option.
Also, Mdz does not skate anywhere near Murphy. Nor does he have his shot. Murphy has what scouts are calling.g franchise offensive defensemen ability. Mdz never was considered to have those skills.
Murphy is a more highly touted prospect than MDZ was. However, Murphy will not fall to us at 15.
