About Author

  1. That Winnipeg button is hilarious. The NHL should be ashamed to have no logo or team name there! Come on people!

Didn’t they know this was happening before they told the public? Was it a shock to the people in Winnipeg that own the team?

    Manitoba Murderers. DONE.

  2. Hey Heads. . . Just want to throw out there that I’m selling the majority of my season tickets this year. I’m only keeping about 10-12 games for myself. Seats are in 426 row C right off the aisle & will be face value for my fellow bloggers. Tickets can be e-mailed or shipped & will be handled on a first come first served basis. E-mail me with any game or games you might want and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

  3. Doodie Machetto on

BTW, guaranteed Winnipeg has the largest home-road win differential in the NHL.

  4. Those Canadians have it good. Penguins and Rangers both starting their (North American) seasons in Western Canada. And they don’t have to see the Lightning this season.

  5. Looking forward to it Manny. Maybe we can get you the Garden for the playoffs this year too.

  6. Gift of GAB-orik on

That’s alot of games against Western conference teams early in the schedule!

  7. That would be AWESOME!

Great one Doodie. I was just listening to a band called “The Weakerthans.” They are from Winnipeg and in one song titled, “I hate Winnipeg” the lead singer says, “who cares, the Jets were lousy anyways.”

  8. Gift of GAB-orik on

2 games against Anaheim in the first 11 games, play division team (Isles) once. Weird.

  9. West coast trip right at the beginning of the season. I don’t understand how the schedules are made.

  10. Shame on the NHL for not having Winnipeg ready to go with a team. I am sorry but this is pathetic. No logo!? Just the NHL logo. That is so sad.

  11. LOL! If Jags goes to the Wings, he will make his return to the (transformed) Garden on March 21….I’m definitely going to that game….

  12. One home stand of six games early and one of seven games late. Aside from the initial seven game roadie, they only have a trip of four games once and three games four times. They play their last 5 games against the east’s best. Could be good or bad depending on their opponents compete level at that time.

  13. there is a west coast trip in the beginning because MSG will not be ready until the end of october…..

  14. Gift of GAB-orik on

I agree if Jagr makes a return to the Garden either on the Wings, Habs, or Pens… he will almost certainly get a great reception.

  15. Gift of GAB-orik on

I also agree that if it becomes a hectic bidding war, the Rangers should back away from Richards and pursue other options.

It’s clear he wants every dollar, and will call all the shots. We don’t need to get saddled with another 6 or 7 year, most likely $7+ million dollar contract on a 30 year old, recently concussed player.

In 2 or 3 years when he sucks, or his numbers drop off… we’ll all be saying the same things alot of people said about Drury.

  16. can someone double check my eyes

the 2 western conf teams we play twice is chicago and anaheim. is there a 3rd or is it only 2. be back on at 430 have work to attend to

  17. Gift of GAB-orik on

ibob tweeting that Philthy and Bryzgalov close to a contract deal. And that it puts pressure to move Jeff Carter.

Also seeing Stamkos close to deal with Tampa.

  18. Since ilb hates reposting, I’m doing so on his behalf :)

I hope Carp doesn’t carp me soon, I hate reposting.
Anyway, we have a little vacation house upstate, it’s on the lake and also very close to Hudson River. It’s not far from exit 21 on NY Thruway, hour and a half drive from Manhattan, two in traffic. My wife and I want to offer it for the boneheads summer gathering. We can do fishing, boating, kayaking, drinking, eating, talk Rangers and whatever crazy stuff we want.
So, it should be one of the Saturdays this summer.
The options are 7/9, 7/23, 7/30, 8/6. Once I have all the responses and preferences, I’ll be able to choose one- majority wins.

(Note from mama: 7/16 is no longer on table cause I can’t make that day. ilb approved :)

I will provide the alcohol ( you can certainly trust Russian with that one) and other drinks. If you want to bring your favorite dish, you’re welcome. But you don’t have to. Plenty of places to order from, my wife and I will take care of that. Only one requirement: you and your significant other HAVE to wear something Rangers. Hats, socks, boneheads T, doesn’t matter. If you don’t drive, you can take a train and I’ll pick you up at the train station in Hudson.

So, if you’re interested, please email me at Tell me who you are and what your preference(s). And whatever other questions you may have.

  19. Yes, five or so Saturday home games, three of them in the afternoon, two or three, that I’ve seen, at night.

  20. Winter Classic and 24/7 is going to awesome!!! I can’t wait!!! Avery will prove his worth on 24/7 this year!

  21. This is so frustrating — I live in LA. So, not only will the Rangers away game against LA be played in Stockholm, but I’ll be in Stockholm in August. Can’t really go back.

    Damn you, schedule makers.

  22. Doodie Machetto on

    Wow, surprised about Regehr.

I’m so pissed about the date of the winter classic. That’s my wedding anniversary! how the hell can I ask my wife with a straight face to sit out in the freezing cold in a hostile Philly stadium on our anniversary?

  23. Gift of GAB-orik on

But Torts says he doesn’t really go into the locker room between periods or after a game… so i don’t think we’ll see the Boudreau fireworks and F-bombs of the previous 24/7.

Maybe they will catch him pre-game screaming ” DON’T STEP ON THE BYFUGLIEN LOGO!! ” haha

around the practice rink should be interesting too. Poor Torts, his blood pressure is gonna be as high as Brad Richards contract demands!

  24. Hartnell is such a clown…I’m sure we will be making fun of him relentlessly during the whole series…

  25. Thanks NYR. To be honest, I’m not sure I like the idea of the distraction, but I sure will watch!

  26. I just want to see/hear Avery uncut! I can only imagine the stuff he says on the ice…

  27. Dreary is refusing to be bought out, because he wants to promote Colony Grill on 24/7. I bet if he’s not a Ranger next year, he begs his former teammates to take a camera crew down there. Ahaha!

  28. I honestly think you’re right Carp. I also honestly think he’s not doing this by choice :)

  29. Gift of GAB-orik on

I was about to launch into an expletive substituded tirade about Hartnell… but then i realized half way though typing it, it was pretty inapropriate. So i’ll pass on that.

It did involve Byfuglien, Carcillo, Cooke, and Bryzgalov… and i was introducing Filatov and Clutterbuck into the mix.

Though in fairness… i did have to stretch a bit and use some linking phrases that Carp would not approve of… so i leave it all to your imagination!

This is P.G. GAB-orik, and I approve this message.

  30. Maybe it happened while I was gone, but has it ever been officially announced that the Rangers/Flyers will be on 24/7 this year? I don’t remember seeing or hearing that.

  31. It’s true that Torts doesn’t go into the locker room….but the camera crews will and Torts is always saying that what happens in there is PRIVATE. so……

  32. That’s it! ORR is David Klein! I got back to my original stance that it is just ORR being funny.

  33. eric – Two games against Phoenix

Doodie – It was probably a mistake to have a wedding on that date to begin with, unless you’re not a fan of pro/college football. ;)

  34. Gift of GAB-orik on

Carter to CBJ in return for 8th overall pick, Voracek, and 3rd round pick

  35. Bad job by the NHL starting the Rangers on Kol Nidre night in New York. I remember the NFL adjusted a game last season or the season before because of something similar.

  36. Me, if they don’t change it, I’m guessing there will be many tix available for sale then….or lots of fans dressed like seats.

  37. Now Eklun says Mike Richards being traded? I doubt it. Also people saying Versteeg to Florida, others saying not true (like the Panthers GM). Where’s iBob when you need him?

  38. Latona is here! Latona is here!

Death to fake trolls! I see through the facade of ORR.

  39. I am excited to see the Winter Classic jerseys/uniforms….

I’m hoping the Flyers go back to the black & orange girdle pants from the 70s! LOL!

Thinking the Rangers’ jersey should look like the Heritage Jersey, but in vintage white instead of dark blue.

  40. The Carter trade is actually not bad for the Flyers. Voracek is a good player and the Flyers could very well land a very good player at #8 in the draft…

  41. Gift of GAB-orik on

Interesting… Voracek is a RFA, Zherdev and Ville Leino are UFA. Carcillo and Powe are RFA as well. PHI still kinda tight against the cap even with this move shipping out Carter.

  42. Gift of GAB-orik on

wow… PHI trying to make moves… Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds for Mike Richards possibly?

  43. Wow…LA is stupid to make that deal, IMO….Schenn is going to be stud…so is Simmonds…

  44. Gift of GAB-orik on

What else is interesting.. is it appears Jeff Carter has a full NTC. So he had to agree to this trade?

  45. NYR, it’s a decent return, but they could be replacing Carter’s big contract with Bryzgalov. I’m not impressed with Bryzgalov. I’d rather have Carter.

That has to be BS. It’s one thing to trade Carter, but both he *AND* Richards? No way!

  46. Gift of GAB-orik on

wow… ok so after some research… Carter’s NTC doesn’t kick in until next season.

  47. LA’s GM is probably worried about figuring out an extension for Doughty rather than making trades.

  48. Am I the only one confused why they were doing all this for the sake of signing Bryzgalov? He’s average at best.

  49. Maybe Flyers thought they had Brad Richards the UFA and Ryan Carter, lol.

Official cap: @Real_ESPNLeBrun: NHL salary cap has officially been set at $64.3 million upper limit; $48.3 million lower limit

  50. Gift of GAB-orik on

One could assume this takes LA out of the Richards sweeps no??

2 horse race with us and TOR??

  51. whyzerman? whozerman? whatzerman? whenzerman? wherezerman?

    I’m loving this.

I’m going to miss the Dubinsky-Richards silliness, though.

  52. Gift of GAB-orik – They just won the Richards sweeps. :P

ORR – Total reverse in philosophy. Get the good goalie then fill in with others I guess.

  53. As someone who is the no to Richards camp, can someone please explain to me why you think it’s a good move? I am serious…….

  54. Spider, Hacklund kept saying the Leafs were the team though. So he was sort of half right I guess.

I too will miss the Richards-Dubinsky “fights.” I felt like they always had a mutual respect for each other.

  55. Gift of GAB-orik on

    Which Richards? haha

So LA gets Mike Richards, deals young prospect center in Schenn, and has Kopitar. I gotta imagine they can’t fit B. Richards on that team.

  56. So, today the Flyers basically confirmed they’re signing Bryzgalov, long term, and they replaced a 30-40 goal scorer, Carter, for a borderline 20+ goal scorer, Voracek, and they traded a 30 goal scorer, Richards, for a 15 goal scorer, Simmonds, and a prospect, Schenn, who could make an impact this season, or not.

How does this help them win the Stanley Cup?

  57. Richards is a 70 point guy that plays against the toughest competition for the Flyers. He could do very well if he gets weaker competition in LA if other teams chose to match up against Kopitar’s line.

  58. Richards is fits two Rangers needs in one: (1) playmaking center; and (2) power play puck handler.

Not sure why people are against it (unless it’s for an insane amount of money and/or years).

If we can get Richards for 4 years at something less than Drury money, it’s a no brainer.

Oh, and he’s played under Torts before and has won with him. (See: Fedotenko, Ruslan)

  59. *CARP* ORR says you can confirm that he is not messing with everybody by being David Klein……Please confirm or dis-confirm!

  60. Schenn and Simmonds will be very good players (Simmonds already is)…the Flyers just got younger and potentially better…not to mention 2 1st rounders…

  61. Gift of GAB-orik on

Flyers at this point have $13 mil and change in cap room with new $64 mil cap. Voracek and Simmonds both RFA. Bryzgalov, Zherdev, Leino, plus others UFA.

Bryzgalov wanted in the neighborhood of $5-6 mil.

Schenn contract is $3.1 mil for next 3 years.

  62. MANNY!

If I’m a Flyer fan, I am not happy right now…though the Richards deal did net them a solid return.

I do wonder if they’re also clearing the deck to make a run at Brad Richards. Not sure why they would do that rather than just keeping Mike Richards though.

  63. NYR, I disagree, I think they got worse. Schenn hasn’t proved anything yet. Vorecek, and Simmonds are good, but they’re not as good as Carter, and Richards.

They got worse, in my opinion. Younger, but worse. Maybe they go after a FA or two. Ryder, maybe?

They must be hoping for another big year from Briere, and for Giroux to take his game to the next level.

  64. Gift of GAB-orik on

I retract my previous statement about LA being out for B. Richards. They have $10 mil in cap space (before Doughty contract renewed/traded)

But reports were Smyth wanting to be traded to EDM, which would free up additional $6 mil.

Can the Kings have Mike Richards, Brad Richards, AND Brad Richardson all on the same team?

  65. JimboWoodside on

I cannot believe that Philly traded Carter and Richards – that’s incredible to me!

I would have loved to see Carter (especially) wind up with the NYR – and Richards ain’t so bad either….

  66. Well, you’re right there, Orr. Carter and Richards are stars. Big price to pay for a goalie. Right now it is not a win for the Flys….I’m thinking we can judge this trade for what its worth in a few years….

Simmonds has a lot of upside (15 goal scorer at age 22)…I hope I’m wrong!!

They expect big things from Giroux…I think they will also sign Leino…

  67. JimboWoodside on

Why in the world would Carter want to go to Columbus!? It’s a black hole franchise…….

  68. Gift of GAB-orik on

I’m shooting blind here… but last season, Didn’t Carter score more goals than all the guys PHI traded for combined?

Plus they got a goalie who had one good season and is marginally better than what they had last year and who wants a ton of money?

  69. Me, October 7 shouldn’t matter about Kol Nidre…game will be during the day…eastern time. Plenty of time to eat, watch hockey before repenting for our sins.

  70. Gift of GAB-orik on

Though it seems Carter was not liked in the lockerroom. Chemistry is important.

  71. Noah, he will want insane years and money.

Manny, Orr (the Voice of Reason) is not the Core guy. I swear.

  72. I think these are good trades for the future. Can’t see what they’re gonna do for next season, unless they get a big UFA or make another trade of course.

  73. LOL! Carter must be dying right now. Wishing that NTC kicked in this year, and not next. Ahaha! Poor guy! Columbus will never win a Cup.

That’s a great deal for the Kings. Unless Schenn turns out to be a big time superstar. But, it doesn’t matter if they win a Cup. That’s all that matters!!

  74. So which goalie plays Game 3 of the first round for the Flyers? Bobrovsky, Boucher or Leighton?

  75. I just think it’s crazy that they actually happened. How often is it that a franchise trades away two legitimate first liners on the same day, in exchange for assets that are not equivalent to them at this point in time?

  76. Flyers moved back the clock a bit on being a contender. But they still have Giroux, JVR, Briere and Hartnell. The only problem is that this doesn’t really align too well with their defense given the age of Pronger and Timmonen.

  77. Doodie Machetto on

Spider, these aren’t even good for the future. Carter and Richards are 26! It’s not like they are old guys. They still have at least another 5 years of top level hockey in them.

  78. JimboWoodside on

How do you sign a NTC that doesn’t go into effect immediately? You’re giving the team that just signed you a big chance to have “buyer’s remorse” and dump you and the contract on another team….it does not make sense to me, but what do I know!?

  79. Doodie Machetto on

This just in: faced with the prospect of playing in Columbus, Jeff Carter announces retirement!

  80. Mister Delaware on

“Though it seems Carter was not liked in the lockerroom. Chemistry is important.”

Flyers locker room is the only place I ever get little tiny bits of gossip and I don’t think this is the case. Their young core was actually pretty tight but management really hated the way they conducted themselves off the ice. (Although I’m pretty sure none of that is / was a secret.)

  81. I thought Lupul was the guy that shipped out because of the excessive partying. Or maybe it was because there’s some rule that every couple of years Lupul has to be traded for Chris Pronger.

  82. Who was the guy who was banging Hartnell’s girlfriend? Richards or Carter? Or maybe both, which would explain today’s trades :P

Maybe Richards asked to be traded. Now that I think of it, he was apparently pissed off with the team, specifically Pronger, among others.

  83. Holy Carcillo! That’s a lot of years.

    TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie
Bryzgalov contract with PHI is done. 9 years, $51 million.

  84. That’s interesting info ORR.

9 years. Looks like they don’t think Bobrovsky is gonna be any good…

  85. Gift of GAB-orik on

I don’t think Philly can pull that off salary wise. I think they’re still too close to the cap after they sign Bryzgalov plust Voracek, Simmonds, and Leino.

Don’t see how they’re fitting another $7 in on top of all that. only working with $13 mil in room.

  86. They signed Bryzgalov until he is 40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A 40 year old goalie! Roloson inspired them!

  87. why would the flyers trade 26-year old centers to sign a 31-year old center with concussion problems?

  88. Gift of GAB-orik on

$7-8 mil in PHI cap space now after Bryzgalov contract depending on AAV of contract.

Still have to sign a few guys. No way B. Richards fits dollar wise unless another large move comes.

  89. Mister Delaware – Apparently, Richards did not deal well with the media, bad captain quality according to Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News.

Doodie – I think the assets they got back are greater, no matter the ages of Richards and Carter.

Laurel – You don’t wanna get banned talking about BMs from Richards.

  90. Might this set off a chain reaction of insane trades? That would be pretty awesome.

  91. I just think that this means the Phlyers are not done. They will probably try to move Leino and Giroux now. They want to rebuild….then they better get goin.

  92. Giroux, Briere and Schenn are all centers and should fill their top 3 Cs. They are not going after Brad Richards. They had 2 perfectly capable centers in Carter and Richards that were also younger and better goal scorers (although Brad is a better set up man). This is all about blowing up their core.

  93. i told you all i would be back at 430 a its now 500 and i am at a loss for words with the flyer moves. i was in the car and listening to nhl home ice and they are all stunned.

there is no doubt the flyers are players for b ricahrds.

they cleared 110 mil with richards and carter long term deals and just put back half with 51 mil with bryzgalov.

    im stunned

  94. JimboWoodside on

Geez! I thought Philly had a pretty good team there – aside from a first-rate goalie, they were pretty darn close – they only lost in the SC Finals a year ago in game 7 with essentially the same team……something here doesn’t make sense.

  95. Laurel – I would have thought nothing of it if you didn’t mention no pun intended.

Manny – Giroux is their second-line center now, assuming Briere is first.

  96. Yea totally. I just think they are going to move what they can. Maybe the Islanders would give up a stud or two.

  97. Doodie Machetto on

“there is no doubt the flyers are players for b ricahrds.”

Unless they plan on letting all of their UFAs and RFAs walk, they are not in the conversation for Richards.

  98. eric, on the heels off the Bryzgalov signing they have about $8M left in cap space before signing Voraceck and Simmonds as RFAs and if they care to retain Leino as a UFA. And that would be just to get to a 20 man roster. They can’t afford Richards.

  99. again…why would the flyers trade two 26-year old centers to sign a 31-year old center with concussion problems?

  100. Gift of GAB-orik on

Let’s put an end to the Flyers being players for B. Richards talk.

As of this moment, barring any further big salary moves, there is NO WAY Philly can sign the RFA’s they just traded for, sign Ville Leino, AND fit B. Richards in with only $8mil in cap space.

    The math doesn’t work.

  101. JimboWoodside on

Can Carter jump to the KHL? Omsk might actually be better than going to Columbus! ;-D

  102. Bryz’s contract is for a few too many years, but I can’t believe Holmgren got what he got for those guys. Great moves and he gets rid of two players who were huge clubhouse cancers for them in that locker room. Both were way too immature and ran their way out of town.

  103. I wish the Rangers had clubhouse cancers that helped get them to the conference finals and then within 2 games of the Stanley Cup in the last 4 years.

  104. wow…crazy news! how does all this make Flyers better? Can’t wait to hear Flyers fans booing Bryzgalov! lol

  105. Wow, just caught up….Carter being traded has been floating for a long time, But Mike Richards is totally unexpected. He was considered their core. Something isn’t right. They got good return, but it is a step back, IMO. And they do not have enough cap space to go after Brad unless they make more moves.

Bettman and the league talking serious turkey about reverting to FOUR DIVISIONS in a couple years. Bettman, I don’t kiss men, but I might give you a little peck if you pull this off. WOW!

  107. @DarrenDreger: Flyers asked for Kadri and Kulemin from the Leafs for Mike Richards. Toronto said they would consider it, but never heard back from Phi

LMAO! Burke must be flipping out right now. Maybe Burke tries to acquire Schenn. He’s always wanted him.

The look on his face when LA drafted him was priceless.

  108. Doodie Machetto on

Toronto was asked for Kadri and Kulemin. I wouldve taken them over Schenn and Simmonds.

  109. What combo is better, Schenn and Simmonds, or Kadri and Kulemin?

Schenn has the most upside, of the bunch, but as of right now, Kulemin is the best. He’s coming off a 30 goal season. I wonder whyzerman Holmgren never called back.

  110. If I was Mike Richards I’d be praying to whatever big guy upstairs I pray to that I didn’t get traded to Toronto. LA’s centers will be Kopitar, Richards, Moeller, Stoll.

  111. Oh and LA has Lokitinov. If they could move Smyth and then maybe someone like Moeller or Lokitinov or one of Bernier/Quick they could set themselves up to have an awesome team.

  112. LOL! Apparently, because of the trade, Carter’s NMC is now void next year in Columbus…

  113. Czechthemout!!! on

I don t care what the Flyers did. What pisses me off is that the Kings offered us Scenn and Symmonds for glass Joe Gaborik, Mr. Slovakia last year and we turned it down. Oh well, we will continue to throw more good money after bad in a futile attempt to find a star player/ center to play with glass Joe Gaborik. Just like the crap Sather pulled when he signed Gomez and Drury to play with Jagr.

What Sather should be doing is looking to dump Girardi to a team for either young forward help or a number one pick while his trade value is still high. And before I get attacked by his defenders who will say ” he blocks a lot of shots garbage”, that’s because he turns the puck over so much that he has no choice but to scramble to cover up his many mistakes.

I read a Rumor that the Bruins were looking to trade the #9 pick and this years 3rd rounder for Girardi and next years 2nd. If true, I would do that trade and draft Ryan Murphy to quaterback the power play . He scored 26g and 53 assists in 78 games!! He is only 5 10.5 and 185 lbs. But so was Leetch when he was drafted. He will probably hit around 6 feet as he gets older. At 15, would draft Ty Biggs or Mark McNiel and call it a day.

  114. @DarrenDreger: Leafs were also interested in Carter and Kadri was discussed, but Tor wouldn’t include Kulemin to close deal for Carter.

LOL! Burke 0-2 today. Poor guy! Hopefully he’s 1-2 by July 1st, landing Brad Richards.

  115. Can anyone imagine what this place would be like if we had say traded Cally and Staal for comparable packages?!?

  116. the flyers will have 13 mil cap space. they may still free up more.

leafs and rangers in bidding war for b richards

  117. Czechthemout!!! on

I read it either from Brooks or one of the other beat writers.

Do you like the flyers trade?

  118. Richards says he’s not surprised aboot getting traded.

I’m not surprised that *he* was traded, because I’ve heard rumors for the last year or so, aboot that, and same with Carter, which was even longer. But, I’m surprised that they were *both* traded. I just can’t agree with it! Whyzerman!

The Flyers just Derker Derr Richards, and Carter. Shocking day!

  119. I’m sorry, but I can’t imagine Philly being so close two years ago, and pretty damned good last year creating such a vacuum at Center. One had to go, not two. I really believe that Holmgren has another major move to make… for a Center that hasn’t just competed for a cup but WON one.

  120. Czechthemout!!! on

By the the way, Kadri is nothing, Kulieman had a fluke year just like Boyle did with us. Schenn is considered to be the best prospect in the NHL and Symmonds will thrive in Philthy and get about 20g and 20a. I read their were some issues in the lockeroom between Richards and Carter.

  121. Mister Delaware on

“I read it either from Brooks or one of the other beat writers.”

You’ve gotta cite something like that.

  122. “I read their were some issues in the lockeroom between Richards and Carter”

LOL! And the solution to that problem is to get rid of both of them? You’re supposed to send them to the principals office, not expel them both!

  123. Doodie Machetto on

CTO, Kulemin had 30-27-57, which was also spread out consistently over the whole year. Boyle had 21-14-35, which was heavily frontloaded. 3 goals and 5 assists in February and March.

So while Kadri is still just all potential, I’m buying Kulemin.

  124. Czechthemout!!! on

    Mister Delaware

    Sorry, I don’t have a link.

What do you think of the Girardi rumor ? Would you do that deal?

  125. “I read their were some issues in the lockeroom between Richards and Carter.”

That would explain trading ONE of them. Pronger is a world class D-bag. There are other guys that are dic*s in that room too. I am sure. But I can’t see why they would trade two of those guys. Can’t see it.

  126. Doodie Machetto on

I don’t get what the big deal about Biggs is. From everything I’ve read, he’s going to be like Dubinsky, except more physical, but not as good offensively. That’s the definition of a good third liner. Why waste a first rounder on that?

  127. @EJHradek_NHL: The buzz from NHL types is that there will be several more trades over the next few days. Stay tuned!

Steve Zipper-Head thinks that if the Kings trade Smyth, they might have a shot at B. Richards. Very slim chance.

Richards wont sign with a team that has two 1st line centers. No way!

Would be great though. Michael Richards! Brad Richards! Brad Richardson! BOOM!

  128. Doodie Machetto on

I’d jump at that Girardi deal without hesitation, but I don’t think Boston would actually do that.

  129. Eric- Flyers just signed Bryzgalov. Their cap number is just below $8M. The EL bonuses (JVR, Bobrovsky, Schenn) can not be deferred until next year because of expiring CBA. They need to sign Voracek, Simmonds etc…

  130. Czechthemout!!! on

Kulemin is a decent player on a bad team. That’s all. He will not repeat those stats at all. In fact I don’t think he is much of a player. Very soft.

  131. btw…i love seeing other teams shoot themselves in the foot.
makes me feel ever so slightly better about the redden, gomez, drury type deals

  132. ORR,

Although that would never happen, if we fleeced the Flyers with Drury, I would literally laugh my aasen off.

  133. ORR….Great idea. If it could happen I would be ecstatic. I would also drive to their arena and puke on someone.

  134. What the hell am I going to do with my Drury Rangers jersey?

I guess the same thing Philly fans are doing their Mike Richards jerseys!!! LMAO!

    Burn baby, burn!

  135. Mister Delaware on

“I would also drive to their arena and puke on someone.”

Every variation of this joke works for me.

  136. Doodie Machetto on

CTO, we will just have to wait and see on Kulemin.

Dreger reporting that B. Richards was asked to waive his NTC today. I wonder who the team that made the deal was?

  137. JimboWoodside on

If Drury went to the Phlyers, he would miraculously recover and score 12 goals against us during the regular season – and eliminate us from a playoff berth!

  138. You know, you’d think the mass suicides would drop the crime rates in Philly, but Flyers fans are so stupid that they’d fail and be sentenced to prison!

  139. True Blue Mike on

I would love to see if Sather could some how trade Drury, McLratrh, Borque and our 1st rounder for Keith Yandle and a 2nd rounder

  140. True Blue Mike on

Yeah i doubt it but they need to reach the floor of the cap and Sather and Phoneix love to trade so why not help the Rangers out ;)

  141. Czechthemout!!! on

Burke is a lunatic. He must be tearing his hair out because he has struck out three times today.

He will make some stupid trade in the next 24 hours that will set the
Leafs back eeven more than he already has. Dope!

  142. Czechthemout!!! on

    Dave Klein

Mcilrath is going to be a borderline bust in my opinion. Bourque is a small forward that wll never be more than a 4 th liner. Our first is a decent asset but in the context of who Keith Yandle is, that is a trade that will never happen.

  143. billybleedsblue on

Howzerman is it that the Rangers have 12 back-to-back games? Is that a lot? They had a bunch last season…

What’s with the Flyers? *scratches head*

Ascending the Floor: A Tequila Blog

  144. David great reasoning. The Phlyers having a plan CLEARLY means that the Rangers do NOT have a plan. Remember when they didn’t trade away the farm to get a borderline team into the playoffs? So glad that WASN’T a plan!

  145. Czechthemout!!! on

By the way, in a strange twist, the salary cap rising the way it has actually may make Drury an asset. He won’t play this year which means insurance will cover 4 of the 5 million that he is owed. For team like Pheonix that appears to be far from the salary cap floor, Drury is very valuable. It is very ironic that Drury by not playing may turn out to be more valuable to us than when he played.

  146. In order to get a guy like Yandle. We’ll have to give them Artie and/or McDonut. That’s all there is to it.

To get any significant player that can improve the team, that’s how you start off the trade.

  147. OH MY GOD. David!? Did you just engage ORR in a direct conversation!? Isn’t that …. how did you put it…..hypocritical!?

  148. NYR_FAN via Android on

Lol! McIlrath hasn’t even played an NHL game and he’s already a bust!!

We should have drafted McIlroy instead!!

  149. I hate it when some people asses players w/o even seeing them play a single game in NHL…

So now the Flys have a goalie but lose their top center (carter) and top defensive forward. Very sather-esque

  150. Gift of GAB-orik on

Even Zip is on ibob’s bandwagon! Zip retweeting ibob’s posts. Hilarious.

McIlrath a bust? did he play in the NHL yet? Is it 2016?

Some good convo fodder flies around here… and there there is some gibberish (jibberish) that floats around too.

Not saying McIlrath couldn’t be a bust…. just saying at this point, how do you say that?

  151. Gift of GAB-orik on

The Rangers drafted McIlrath to fill a certain role. That role is not to be another Brian Leetch, or MDZ, or quarterback the PP, or anything like that. They wanted a big, tough, hard hitting D man who can intimidate. He seems capable of all that physical play… so i’m not going to call him a bust.

Unless he gets to the NHL, and gets a broken orbital bone or nose or something in his first fight. THEN i’ll be less excited. But if he turns into anywhere near the nasty physical D man Beuke was….. i’ll be over the moon.

  152. IGWT.

    In Gordie We Trust.

As long as Mr. Clark (hey, wasn’t he the principal at East Side High?) is around, I’ll only believe in a bust when I see one.

  153. The smart thing to do with a kid like him, that plays that way, is to be extra patient. let him finish Junior hockey, and spend at least a year in the AHL before he makes it on the team.

I’d hate for him to act all tough like Dublowsky did in his rookie year, only to get knocked out in game one! LOL! Things like that can lead to depression, erectile dysfunction, etc. Let him develop, mentally, and physically!

  154. Gift of GAB-orik on

Go back and look at that draft…. Cam Fowler is legitimately the ONLY other name picked after the 10 spot that you could say would have been a good pick.

And he was 10-30-40 last year on a team with Selanne, Perry, and Getzlaf.

MDZ put up similar numbers his rookie year, and we all know struggled and got mind freaked by Torts last season. Or sophmore jinx… whatever.

SO given the alternatives… let’s not say McIlrath is a bust just yet. No evidence to prove he is or will be at this point in time.

  155. Regehr wont decide today, whether he’ll accept a trade to Buffalo. I wonder what they’re offering. Hopefully Gerbe! The East isn’t big enough for two midgets. You’d think it is, but it’s not!

And Pierre McPenis-Skull says “Richards will be a Ranger”

  156. Gift of GAB-orik on

Wow did you guys see Bryzgalov’s contract breakdown year by year?

    $10M, $6.5M, $8M, $6M, $6M,, $5.5M, $5.5M $2.25M, $1.25M.

Frontloaded indeed…. $10 mil this season? THE FLYERS ARE CRAZY. It’s officially official.

  157. Boom Boom Bathgate on

Carter and Richards are just 26! This is the kind of trade you make when key players are 30+. The Rangers division just got softer for at least the next couple years.

  158. Gift of GAB-orik on

So if B. Richards becomes a Ranger, we can have a concussed center passing to a concussed winger! Awesome… that should work out well.

  159. Gift of GAB-orik on

that’s ok Boom Boom… The Rangers will try and bring a 30+ year old guy come July 1st.
And for a boat load of money. Sounds familiar no?

  160. Boom Boom Bathgate on

Rangers with 12 back-to-back games next season is a cakewalk. They had 18 back-to-backs this past season. Of course, in a sane league with a sensible number of games on the schedule, no team would ever have to play on consecutive nights with or without time zone travel.

  161. Wow. That is insane. They went desperate for Bryzgalov. There were plenty of guys that could get a 1, 2 or 3 year deal. This is nutso.

  162. Gift of GAB-orik on

Man Holmgren is really pinning his hopes that Bryzgalov will be the answer in goal.

  163. Gift of GAB-orik on

If Bryzgalov doesn’t stabilize the goalie position for Philly, after dumping Carter and Richards… Holmgren will get run outta town!

  164. Gift of GAB-orik on

And probably that piece of carcillo Pronger will be named captain. Seeing that byfuglien cooke head wear a ‘C’ is a disgrace.

Though in Philthy i guess it fits.

  165. Bryzgalov might be better but …… Vokoun is GOOD and wouldn’t require 10 years and they might be able to keep those guys that score TONS OF GOALS!

  166. Vokoun’s had pretty awesome numbers on a pretty adismal Florida Panthers team. Plus, he wears his glove on the right hand. That’s something I don’t think should be overlooked.

  167. I cant believe Vokoun didn’t get traded last season before the deadline. I mean…..he’s good and stuck in a no-win situation.

  168. How about predicting the Ranger’s first round pick?

    I predict:

    Christopher Gibson- G

  169. Three random thoughts…

I wonder what happens to Zherdev? LOL! Is there any way they keep him?

Where Jagr is going to end up!!? I will become a bandwagon Wings fan in a heartbeat!!

#91, NYR Center, Brad Richards ….get used to it, folks…six years, $47 mil is my guess…

  170. So I txted my buddy who is a Phlyers Fan:

    Me: “Your team hates you.”
Him: “I haven’t made up my mind yet. I am ok with losing Carter. Richards kind of Bothers me.”

    WHAT IS HE SMOKING!@!@?!??@?

  201. Paul in sunrise on

I am totally on the B. RIchards bandwagon – I want him in the Rangers.
maybe a deal like that stupid flyer goalie deal – maybe a few more bucks

would you all do it for a 6mil cap hit???
    thats cheap – no?

  202. Gift of GAB-orik on

6 mil cap hit I could probably live with. But again… if it’s a 7 year deal i’m not ok with it.

  203. Gift of GAB-orik on

Whatever contract he gets… he’ll have a full NMC and NTC i’m sure… so what happens if his skills drop off big time in 3 or 4 years, or he gets hurt, or another concussion, then we’re in deep carcillo.

I just don’t think HE is worth the cap hit at this stage of his game. I just don’t think he’s the one solution to the Rangers troubles.

  204. Why would the Kings want Brad Richards at this point?

They have Mike Richards, Kopitar, and Stoll as their top three centers.. that looks pretty good to me. And they could resign Handzus. who is a perfect 4th line center, for cheap or go with a prospect for the fourth line. They need some wingers, especially if Smyth leaves.

  205. I could see it now. Sam, and Joe Mich during game one, in Sweden…

“Brad Richards is a talented guy. He was brought in to set up Gaborik, and help the PP”

    55 games later….

“The PP has struggled all season long. Gaborik and Richards haven’t clicked”

  206. Paul in sunrise on

With the cap higher and drury likely going to ltir could the rangers do a two year 8-9mil per deal?
Or am I just a crazy person today.

  207. ORR,

Didn’t catch that, thanks for the info. In that case, it may be worth it, but I still wouldn’t go for it. I’d get some official wing help.

Or even worse – Joe to Sam: “Brad Richards sure could have helped our power play – it’s too bad that he tripped over the blueline in his first scrimmage with the Rangers in September, landed on his head, and has been concussed and out for the whole season – who knows if he’ll ever play again, Sam?

  209. poor richard on

    B. Richards says he wants this to be his last contract, so you can bet he is looking for about $60 mill over 8 years. way too long of a contract, but the idiocy continues with the Bryz signing 9yrs by the frantic Flyers.

  211. Um, yeah, you got that wrong Jimbo :) I’m a gift every day, but not a present, or present….

  212. JimboWoodside on

Darn it!! Who lied to me!? I’ve got a a birthday coming up, and……….

Is this worthy of a newspaper whack?

  213. That could be a day Flys die… Bye, bye, Philadelphia pie (a.k.a. Phili cheese steak)…
I would be mischievously delighted by their weakening, but something is telling me that Philty’s management has a hidden agenda here. I found it hard to believe, that all of the sudden they become a complete idiots, as it looks so far. Wait with certain fair for a fat rabbit out of hat, comes July,1.

    Thank you, Mama – it’s on free-agent signing day! 26, yeah………in my dreams! But I know, it’s a tradition here….

He WILL sign Richards, no matter what the price, no matter what the length.

  216. finally got a look at the schedule.
is NHL brass trying to make the Rangers legs jelly before the
    Xmas break?

    WTB is that start?
    2 games on west coast
    then the isles
    then back to west coast
    (after flying in from europe)

  217. You would cry too, if that schedule happened to you :)

    Happy early birthday Jimbo!!

Aaaagh! Lindros! They should burn every #88 jersey in existence and forbid any Ranger to wear that number again. The only other “player” to wear 88 was Ken Hodge, whom we got for Ricky Middleton in the worst trade in Ranger history. May John Ferguson rot in Hell for that one… And Sather for putting Lindros in Broadway Blue.

  219. Gordy Clarke says he told Sather to call the Flames every two weeks to ask if they signed Erixon. LOL! Slats probably felt like a retard doing that.

Clark also said “Erixon is an elite defenseman”

Clearly he needs to come to RR to be schooled on how to use the word “elite”

  220. For the record, what is/was everyone’s problem with Eric Lindros?

He was close to being done when we got him but he put in his time and never dogged it. In fact we were the only team with whom he played all all 82 games of a season with.

  221. DJK

Lindros never played a full season in his career … the most he ever played was 81 games back in 02-03 season.

So CZECH – If we should knock “Not Joe” Girardi for blocking shots, I guess we should laud Drury for playing shinny on the empty side of the pond, and not blocking shots. Girardi makes mistakes, but when he does he cares enough to cover what he can, at great sacrifice to his body, and with immense courage.

Now say something nice about “Mr. Ranger” Christopher Drury, who made us all forget Mark, what’s his name?
