Yesterday we touched on how it’s been a good time for the Euros and a bad time for the Americans. Well, maybe we exaggerated (except for the PGA Tour) just a bit. (By the way, for the second timd, an American won the Conn Smythe Trophy, though I can’t really remember who was the first).
Anyway, this weekend is the NHL entry draft.
Here’s some cool draft info on American-born players, courtesy of USA Hockey.

Good morning , First day of summer is here !!
wonder if sather will trade up or down
Not to mention our boys on the pitch played reasonably well against a Jamaica side that hadn’t conceded a goal in the group stage of the gold cup. Now a rematch against panama tomorrow night and a victory over smugly overconfident mexico in front of 75,000 fans of el tri at the rose bowl on saturday night will be even sweeter. (there will probably be about 30,000 fans of the red white in blue in audience as well—that is an improvement because as late as 1990 when mexico played the us in california you could count american fans in attendance on dos manos.)
By the way as much as some argued chara should have been jailed for what he did to pacioretty last march, how about boom boom on murphy last night in 1953. That was sick, cringeworthy stuff right there and they replayed it like 16 times. And the spear on sullivan. Hockey really has europansied, and i do mean that in the best way possible.
Happy Summer.
Good morning, Sally!
wicky?
Who was the first American Conn Smythe winner? I seem to remember Vancouver being involved and a riot afterwards.
Brooks says the NHL schedule will confirm Winter Classic on January 2 for Rangers/Flyers. Glad to see NYR in it, but couldn’t they spread the love around and play in New York? It would be great if they played at Beaver Stadium, but it sounds like it’s gonna be Citizens Bank. I guess they’ll leave the big game for whenever the Penguins play the Flyers.
Yes, Red Sullivan lost his spleen to that hockey spearing. And played, what, another 8-10 years. Those boys were tough!
Board of Governors meets today to approve Atlanta to Winnipeg move. Hopefully they can have a jersey ready for their draft pick on Friday. Good thing no Thrashers are nominated for awards. That could be awkward.
Hockey players are the toughest athletes on the planet. Boxers are second.
can we confirm the schedule will be announced today?
Happy Summer ‘heads!!
I was reading Newsday yesterday and found this amusing… I read one article that was discussing players the Rangers might draft, where they said there wasn’t alot of high end talent, and most scouts agreed very few ‘difference makers’.
Then i read another article about who the Islanders might draft, and they talked about teams not worrying about trading down, because the draft was really deep, and you can get good picks late first round and into the second round.
I mean… get your stuff straight… either it’s a deep draft, or it’s not!
Wait….
I got it! Manny is Manny Pacquiao!
it all makes sense now with his boxing comment.
don’t think the sked is coming today. maybe tomorrow or Thursday.
I’m late on this again (Canada’s internet doesn’t work) but since I haven’t tweaked Boom Boom for a couple of days…
Far from being made for TV garbage, I believe “The Open Championship” is the actual name of the tournament and has been for something like 150 years. It’s you Americans who feel like they have to re-name it the British Open.
We ncould have taken Dan Woodley instead of that Leetch guy? Oh what could have been. Fire Patrick!
Sorry Manny, but I think rugby is first.
I ment Scott Young, oh nevermind!
I’m going to be busy today so I leave you all with a video of my dog Bear playing hockey at my parent’s house on Father’s Day. He plays like Redden in that he makes no real attempt to take away the puck, and turns it over as soon as he is confronted by the opposition.
Also, please pardon the terrible stickhandling. It was a rubber puck that my parents’ dog had chewed up on an asphalt surface. Doesn’t make for smooth handling.

That’s Senator Manny Pacquiao!
Bear’s helicopter style defense is awesome! We should definitely implement that.

I apologize. Sometimes I forget my own title because of how often I get hit in my little head.
Not that often lately, except against Margarito.
You did a nice job on that phone commercial.
I’ll show you a nice job on that phone commercial! Bring it on!
Doodie,
With Rangers toothless offence, we desperately need such a disciplined player like Bear, who will be able to bring the puck to the opposite’s net at least by teeth. Call Slats to sign him up!
LW, 100 percent correct. It is the Open Championship. We say British because it can be confusing since we call our Open “the Open.”
I think the toughest are wrestlers (real wrestlers, like in high school and college, not the roiders on TV). Out there all alone, no place to run, no ducking, no jab-and-hide, no rope-a-dope; using 100 percent of your strength and effort without stopping for three minutes at a time.
There are no prohibitive rules in NHL code against this motion. Is it?
Carp, you make it sounds so romantic…
Carp, I think it depends on the definition of toughness. If you define toughness as mental fortitude, then amateur wrestlers would definitely be up there (although I would still give the edge to boxers).
However, if we are talking about toughness in terms of ability to absorb pain, then I would actually put professional wrestlers up near the top. The stories and punching and kicking are all fake, but being having your body thrown about and slam on floors and mats, etc. still legitimately hurts.
But guys like Keith show how tough Hockey players are. He got what, 3 root canals in between periods and came back to play int the game? These guys take punishment and get right back out there. Stuff that would put the rest of us out of work from our day jobs for a week.
Morning ILB and all!
A short breakfast “break” and then back at it!
Didn’t know if any of you had seen this yet?

I’ve said this before, hockey players remind me so much of the military. I mean in what other sport do the players look at each other in the face knowing they are going to put themselves in harms way in a fight for each other or defend a teammate physically…none, period!!

i only pay $150 a month for triple play gold package! I called cablevision some time ago and got them to sign me up for promotional year with fixed monthly payment of $150 bucks! Once that promotion runs out (and i know my bill will sky-rocket to about $250 a month) i’m cancelling the gold package and my home phone! Don’t really need the land line phone and I barely even watch any of those movie channels (thank you, Netflix and illegal downloads)! But i couldn’t resist having it for a year for that price.

Carp was merely pointing out the shameful european bias and mocking that some wind bags in the media (aka Don Cherry and Mike Milbury) and players (D-Wade, LeBum) have portrayed on tv. And yet… the network execs seemingly let it happen with no reprecussion. Especially in the case of Milbury… i don’t know how you give that clown a mic, and let him be in front of a rolling camera. European players are mostly regarded as ‘soft’... a tag given mostly by american and canadian media.
David…. well he just likes to rile people up. And talk about hard and soft salary caps. And ask why we still seperate americans and europeans. And plug his blog. And dislike ORR. I think i covered it all.

Sather should look into drafting that number 4 bear. He’s pretty tough on D, other teams would find playing against him… unbearable?
I am not too thrilled with Lundqvist. It does not seem like Lundqvist will ever make the big save when the team needs him to. Dating back to the blown three goal lead in East playoffs v. the Penguins and the Game 7 game tying goal v. the Capitals in the East playoffs and the shootout loss v. the Flyers in final game of regular season 2010.
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
So this is what David does? Just random thoughts about the Rangers to get people riled up?
David, the Rangers would not have even been in those situations to begin with if not for Lundqvist…
“the shootout loss v. the Flyers in final game of regular season 2010”
You seem to have forgotten the 47 saves he made in that game, many of them spectacular.
I’m sorry, 46.
billy Tim Thomas in his late thirties stood on his head all season and all postseason to win the Stanley Cup for his team. Slightly better defense in front of him, granted, I do not see Lundqvist ever being able to do that.
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
Guys – don’t respond to that malarkey. We all know Lundqvist is elite. He was in the Vezina discussion this year. I would take him over Luongo. Etc. Etc. blah blah blah
I can’t not respond to that crap
David: Tim Thomas is not the rule. He is the exception. Goalies don’t win things on their own.
46 saves, but not the one that counted.

Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
C’mon, let’s be fair about this… I’d say the Bruins D was a little more than “slightly better” than the Rangers D…
If he only made the one that counted, it would’ve been 46-0….
You know what they say about opinions….
They’re like a-holes….everybody has one.
Luongo had 2 shutouts in the finals… just not in the game that mattered.
And Thomas did not all of a sudden become good, he’s been good for awhile…. and had a wonderful year. And yes, better D has alot to do with helping a goalie.
Hank is the ONLY reason the Rangers are in the ‘oh so close’ category and not the ‘no chance in hell’ category.
but again… thank you for sharing your opinions.
It is not just the amount of saves that a goalie makes that defines him. It is the quality of the save, the situation surrounding the save. How many of the 46 shots prior to the most important shootout attempt were quality shots?
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
Vitriol! Classing it up a notch.
David: You are one of the many people that pointlessly tarnish Lundqvists reputation. He plays with children in front of him. Anisimov deflects pucks into his own goal off his back, legs and whatever else he can get in the way. Gaborik battles Lundqvist for the puck and often wins that battle…scoring on his own net.
Lundqvist is an elite goalie. I would love for the rangers to get to a situation where we could even SEE if Lundqvist could make the big save. The problem is that the team doesn’t get him there. Get him into the Stanley Cup finals, Game 7 and see how he does.
Remember people LOVE Luongo. Particularly the people that gave him a 150 year contract. How does that look right now?
David. Lundqvist made several AMAZING saves in that game.
That’s right GAb – everybody has one and they all stink!
To be fair, Lundqvist is among the best goalies statistics related in the league each year. However, he is one of the most inconsistent and very good goalies in the game. Very similar to Luongo. To be fair again, I would not want Luongo on the Rangers if the Rangers were paid to take him.
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
Each of those 46 shots could’ve been the most important, by your definition at least, if he didn’t make it. There wouldn’t even be a reason to make the one in SO.
um….....david…nobody in their right mind would want Luongo on their team right now.
The Canucks should pick up VoKoun or somebody who can play big games for them.
I thought opinions were like farts… everyone has em, and they think everyone else’s stink.
My opinion (which smells pretty great to me) is that David is just looking for some human contact. Nothing wrong with that, even if he had to break out of his cell to do it.
Nucks should just play Schneider more. Split the season between the two.
Sharing my opinion on Lundqvist’s play is not tarnishing his reputation. If I claimed Lundqvist was a coke snorter, that would be an attempt to tarnish his reputation. I think this blog has someone that regularly attempts to tarnish reputations. How about having a civilized discussion without resorting to falsities?
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
Good call Billy. On David….not the flatulence.
“How about having a civilized discussion without resorting to falsities?”
Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
See: David Klein – blast to the future – ORR is a Carcillo Sucker!!
Lundqvist, like many hockey players has two reputations: one on the ice and one off. You are tarnishing his on ice reputation by pointing out the saves he didn’t make. Even the mighty Timmy Thomas doesn’t make ALL the saves. No one does (excect maybe Doodie’s dog, Bear). This is why when someone levels a dirty hit we debate whether or not they are a good person or not, because the on ice stuff is separate (most of the time) from the on ice stuff.
As to your veiled criticism of ORR (different than the one in your tag). Come on.
We actually were having our daily civilized discussion before you randomly decided to make an “out-of-left-field” pronouncement.
hey hey now, Manny! My a-hole, err, opinion does NOT stink! :P
Like I previously stated, how many of those 46 shots were quality shots or legitimate scoring chances? Shootout attempts are generally quality shots or scoring chances.
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog

Latona That is just a response to being called the same during my last stint on the blog. You do not see me attempting to engage ORR in a discussion, because having a rational discussion with ORR is impossible.

And reminding us that he “started first” is a little childish. It should probably be followed by not promoting your blog. Simple reason- your last Rangers entry was April 9th. According to your blog, they never played in the playoffs. I’m afraid until you do that you will be perceived as a new type of troll….

Maybe when the Rangers get an above average offense in front of Lundqvist we can talk about whether he’s the reason or not the Rangers win/don’t win the Cup.
I’m sorry but propagating the failure of the 09-10 season on Lundqvist in one specific play in not even real hockey is not informed criticism.

It doesn’t matter what or wasn’t it was a response to. The fact is, it’s there, and I can’t accept the validity of your opinions until your hypocrisy ends. I would say the same to ORR if he had a similar tag and made a similar statement about civilized discussion.

ilb A friendly piece of advice: Not everyone that has a differing opinion is a troll. Another piece of advice: When you fail to criticize ORR for the same action that you criticize myself for, that makes you a hypocrite.
blueshirt When the shootout is one of Lundqvist’s strengths and he fails to deliver in a shootout v. the revolving Flyers goalie situation, I think that is a fair criticism. You may not have noticed or you may have ignored its inclusion, but I included other examples along with that shootout.
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
“Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience”
David, you’re welcome to your opinion. I just think that the observations of the games themselves disagree with your assessment. As I said before, Lundqvist made several amazing saves in that Philly game.
Furthermore, the goaltender’s job is not to have a shutout in every game. Allowing only 1 goal in a do or die game is fantastic, especially when it involves not only a high number of saves, but a high number of high quality saves. It is instead the failure of his team to not capitalize on his effort and keep the game from going to a shootout.
Finally, you point to the OT goal in Washington, but again, that was more of a failure of his teammate’s to adequately ensure that there would not be a bad turnover in the defensive zone during overtime. You ignore the fact that he had played nearly flawlessly for most of the contest, making several incredible stops.
Would you have said that Tim Thomas was just unable to get the one save he needed after the losses in games 1,2, and 5? You simply cannot blame the goaltender when he played sufficiently well to give the team a chance to win.
“If you want to keep working here, stay off the drugs.”
Latona As previously stated, I do not attempt to engage ORR in discussion, so it is not hypocrisy.
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
To answer the ‘how many of the 46 shots were quality chances’ remark…
it doesn’t matter how many were quality, or great scoring chances… yada yada yada.
Fact is: if he had let ONE of the previous 46 shots get by him, there wouldn’t have been a shootout to talk about.
And on the subject of the shootout… I’m pretty sure Hank’s stats are probably at or very near the top of the league in overall Shootout stats.
You choose not to mention all the games he won, just one big one he lost.
Take a look at what Dreger says about Mike Richards———>
CCCP,

“You simply cannot blame the goaltender when he played sufficiently well to give the team a chance to win” That is fair and sensible.

“David Klein” –
What does whether or not you engage conversation with ORR have to do with anything? The fact is that you yearn for civilized discussion and yet your username alludes to sexual activity. Hypocrisy.
I’m still putting the failure of that season and the playoffs in 2009 and 2011 on the offense (where over their last 12 playoff games the Rangers have averaged like 1.85 goals per game). I remember reviewing that season and finding at least 8-10 games where Lundqvist allowed 2 or less goals and they still lost.
Citing one off examples to discredit an entire body of work is a very hollow argument.
It’s starting to look, sound, and, most importantly, smell very familiar….
“Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience” Precisely why I do not attempt any discussion with ORR.

David can readily discuss Henrik’s inconsistency because that is the goalie most of us are most familiar with. We watch all or most of the games and what not, so we remember.
Tim Thomas was also criticized this season for his style of play, which led to soft goals, and bad losses and so forth…. heck he was even insulted by another goalie in the Finals!
So no goalie or player is above criticism… it just has to be taken with a grain of salt. It’s easier to point out the bad then to remember all the good.
At least we’re not dealing with Jose Three-or-more, or have the goalie carousel that is the Flyers team…. so we should consider ourselves fortunate in that regard.
If you want to harp on a shootout loss to end the season, or letting in the occassional soft goal…. i’ll learn to live with it when i think about all the good he can and will do for the team in the future.
David – engaging people in discussion has nothing to do with hypocrisy. I think it’s wrong to kill animals but I eat them. That’s hypocritical of me. I don’t engage either my food or the living animals in discussions.

Then you’re either not watching entire games or watching particularly for instances where he fails to make a save.
But the fact that you’re using a fairly short list to illustrate a point that’s flimsy at best doesn’t make your argument any more valid. Why don’t you try to make a list of games where he’s made big saves that have kept his team in the game or saves that kept the Rangers in the lead. I bet that list is a lot longer.
David – if you don’t think. Lundqvist is among the top ten goaltenders in the world, you simply don’t know hockey. In fact, I’d say he’s top five in the world, if you factor in the team in front of him. He’s a hundred times better than Luongo and either on par or better than Miller. Talk about inconsistency and you’re talking about Fleury and Price, both of whom can either show up or miss the game altogether. Cam Ward, Halak, Howard and Bryzgolov are both in a tier down from Hank. Kiprisoff might have held a candle to his play five years ago, but not now. That basically leaves Thomas and Rinne as the only two I could honestly say are better than Hank. Thomas has Chara. Rinne has Webber and Suter. Both are better than what is in front of Hank, which is not to detract from Staal or Girardi. But let’s be honest. Am I missing someone here? Who do you think is better? If any team in the league would do a one-for-one deal for Hank, what goalie would you take? I bet you 90 percent of the teams in th NHL would do that deal without a thought.

Blueshirt Blame for failure should generally be attributed to an entire team, not just one facet of a team. Whether or not that list is longer is irrelevant. What is relevant is the number of times Lundqvist has failed his team when compared with other goalies. phil Never did I state Lundqvist was not among the best in the world.
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
HAHA I never caught that line!
This is beautiful. What is that? Velvet?
Rocky Marciano was good, but compared to Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano ain’t sh!t.
Tim Thomas has 2 years where he’s been the better goalie than Lundqvist, this year and 08/09. Let’s not forget he lost his job to Rask last season. Also, most years he’s played at least 12 games less.
Ryan Miller had 1 year where he was better.
Fleury has had no years where he was better.
” I have put no chemicals… only juices and berries ”
” Just make it look nice and neat ”
” That’ll be 8 dollars ”
Look at how many times the Devils have made the playoffs with colossal collapses. Are you going to say Brodeur can’t get his team over the hump? What about some of those stacked Avalanche teams. Going to say Roy wasn’t good enough? Hasek couldn’t ever get the Sabres a Cup. Going to say it was his allowance of the Brett Hull OT winner that cost them?
CTB, if we were talking one season, I would make the Thomas for Lundqvist swap easily. There is simply no debating that he is the best goaltender in the world right now. But if we’re talking about building a franchise, Lundqvist has to be in the top 3 of goaltenders any team would choose.
The Brett Hull goal was an illegal goal. Brodeur has won 3 Stanley Cups, so he has done something right. Roy and Hasek were multiple Stanley Cup winners. How many playoff series has Lundqvist won? His age and the fact that Thomas lost his job to Rask in the 2009-2010 season makes his story more remarkable and for me, casts a larger shadow on Lundqvist.
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
“But if we’re talking about building a franchise, Lundqvist has to be in the top 3 of goaltenders any team would choose” I would have to agree with that, or at worst, the top 5. I do not think that MSG is the right stage for him, though.
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
David, then list the other times great goalies have “made the saves that counted” and compare it side by side with Lundqvist.
The focal point of your rather amorphous argument is using a handful of examples as proof. In order for anyone to take you serious you need to provide valid comparisons with Lundqvist’s peer group.
What would you say of Tim Thomas in the finals? He didn’t win the close games, Luongo did. He totally blew in on the OT goal in game 2 and didn’t make the save that mattered in game 5. Maybe he won because the Bruins scored like 20 goals in the final 4 games.
Good afternoon all! Boy, Carp sure is raking in the dough today :) F5!
The Devils play an entirely defensive system. Why don’t you compare a goalie that has a similar defense in front of it.
Blueshirt It is not an amorphous argument because it was not an argument. I stated an opinion that I do not think that Lundqvist will ever win a Stanley Cup with the Rangers because he cannot make the saves that count for the Rangers. Furthermore, there are many more examples than just a handful. My desire to refer to the handful does not negate the many more examples that exist.
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
Hey remember when Lundqvist was in the discussion for Conn Smythe and when he didn’t make the final three a lot of hockey people thought it was a snub?
Dah! Vezina…not conn smythe….yet!
Hasek finally won a stacked Wings team in 02 that had 7 future HOF players on it, Lundqvist wins the Cup on that team. He barely played in 08 and was replaced during the first round.
Roy in 86 and 93 was probably the only goalie in the last 30 years to be the primary reason their team won. He had stacked Avs teams in 96 and 01.
David,
Just answer honestly on one question: if Rangers would score one more goal against Philty and Caps in mentioned games, would we even have this so called discussion? And because of obvious lack of any other arguments I guess, that it would never cross your mind, which lead us to the conclusion that all topic from your side is hokey (pun intended), contrived at least and unsubstantiated, picked up just for thrill of stirring our collective emotions.
If only you would understand the Law of Big and Random numbers and theory of Probability…you could save yourself a great deal of aggravation.
Even Cam Ward had a stacked team in front of him.

Earlier you were saying that failures are attributed to the whole team. Offense, defense and goaltending. Now you’re saying they won’t win because of Lundqvist’s inability to make the saves that count? Which one is it?
And you’re still only using examples that support your opinion and not others that will show evidence to the contrary. And you have shown no interest in comparing Lundqvist to other goalies citing specific examples, no just “oh well goalies X, Y and Z have won Cups”.
It’s pretty obvious that Bear > Lundqvist. Trade Hank and sign Bear. Fire Sather and Hire David! LGR!
Defending the Bore: An Interweb Periodical
4ever I stated an opinion with no intent for anything but healthy discussion..in response to Lundqvist being crowned the King of New York. Blueshirt I think so as well, but to state unequivocally that Lundqvist wins on that team is misguided.
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
I am with Billy!
HIRE BEAR. FIRE SATHER. FIRE HANK.
i would take hank over thomas even for one year.
doodie nice questions on zips live chat
Eddie Giacomin couldn’t lead the team over the hump. Maybe he was the problem? The Hockey Hall of Fame happened to disagree.
Thanks eric. I asked about 15 others.
orr
your girl sharapova looks amazing today
Bear is better than Lundqvist.
He’s actually the best. He was also very happy when the Bruins won.
Biron has been further in the playoffs than Hank. Maybe he should start.
would you guys want joni pitkanen for 4 mil per
Blueshirt Another blogger mentioned those specific goalies, to which I responded. It is my contention that blame should be spread team-wide for the season and postseason failures. However, I do not believe that MSG is the stage for Lundqvist and I do not think he will be able to make the saves that count on this stage. Those opinions are not mutually exclusive.
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
Mike Richter won in 94 on a stacked Rangers team.
I’m sure David could poke holes in Richter’s legacy if he so chose.
As with any athlete, we are free to nit-pick. We make excuses for winning, losing, coming close, being way off… and on and on it goes.
Opinions are impossible to argue, because they change all the time, and most times are not based on perfect facts. Opinions are also emotionally charged, which clouds logic and often leads to irrational defense.
“Faced with the choice of changing one’s mind, or proving there is no need to do so, most people get busy on the proof ”
Also, didn’t Lundqvist win a gold medal at the Olympics and the SEL title/MVP? I don’t know, but these things indicate, to me, that he is capable of making “the big save.”
eric, no.
The Chicago Blackhawks (completely stacked by the way) thought so much of their Stanley Cup winning goalie Anti Niemmi that they didn’t bring him back after the Cup run.
My point is… sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, and the best goalies don’t always win the cup, sometimes it’s just the best ‘team’.
When Hank is on a team like that, he will win the cup.
Or to rephrase… when the Rangers have that talent level, they, and hank, will win the cup.
2012 is going to feature no fewer than 4 defensemen who are superior to Pitkanen. Plus, it gives us an opportunity to further evaluate our very young defensive corps.
What does “this stage” even mean? At the NHL level? In the playoffs? Contrary to popular belief and as much as MSG propaganda would lead you to believe, NY is not the biggest stage in the NHL. I’d list Montreal and Toronto (when they finally have a contending team will have enormous expectations on them) as having more pressure, and pretty much any Canadian city right now with the chance to win the Cup due to Canada’s Cup drought. I’d even put Detroit ahead of NY because of the higher expectations to win given their team.
Who calls CTBlueshirt, “Blueshirt?” I thought we shortened it to, “CT” or “CTB”
burns or suter much better i agree now doodie
Exactly doodie. The Olympics feature better competition (among the actual contending countries) and become single elimination after the group stage. And for European born players a gold medal is extremely high on the list of achievements.
Sharapova looks amazing, for now!
I’m sure it’ll be another early exit for her. I’m rooting for the other hot Russian, Maria Kirilenko!
Blueshirt This stage meant New York. Hockey is Canada’s game and there likely is more pressure to win there on contending teams, but it is arguable. Using one example, Vancouver cheered their team after their team was embarrassed in Game 7. Their goalie cheered after being embarrassed in four losses in the series.

Check out the very non-elite Henrik Lundqvist, at MSG
http://www.snyrangersblog.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/MSG_052511_376.jpg
Has been!
The NHL does not see it that way David. Canadian tv ratings don’t even count.
He does look like a has been. He should just join the crew and get to work if he wants to have any kind of future. Stop trimming his beard to a fashionable length and filling his hair with products and work for once, ya bum!
The WNBA has been around for 15 years. How? Why?
It’s pretty pathetic that he’s hanging out with construction workers. What a loser.
I’d trade him to the Isles for Montoya, Joe-En-Sue, and Streit. Maybe a 2nd round pick, if possible.
Others throw words such as bum, has been, non elite, elite and I do no such thing. I think Lundqvist is a very good goalie.
Defending the Core: A Rangers blog
There’s more fans at WNBA games than Devils games, I think.
Maybe if Hank cared as much about goaltending as he does aboot his trim-fit suits and Italian shoes, he’d actually have a chance to make a big time save and/or have elite status in the NHL…anyone can be elite in the Swedish Elite League….TROLOLOLOL!
The moment he married his girlfriend, I knew his career was over. I seriously doubt his commitment to the game. It seems he doesn’t try hard enough at times.
Just another Euro pansy!
Good call ORR. I don’t care if they give us anything back. I will take DiPietro. Get that bum outta town!
Amen NYR – Maybe if Hank started wearing trim fit goalie pads and exposing his maticulously groomed hair while on the ice he would play better instead of playing like the bottom of the barrel junkie goaltender that he is. Girardi blocks more shots than Hank.
I’d rather have Girardi in net. At least you know he can make a big time save…
.....and he’s willing to sacrifice his body. More than we can say for that pretty europansy named Lundqvist.
And why do we call him “The King”? King of what?
He could be the King of Euro pansies. It’s possible!
In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king…
Penis?
Exactly!
Block ness monster in goal? That could work!
Girardi>Hank comments are hysterical… you guys really are damn funny sometimes!
His crazy eyes would scare shooters into missing the net entirely!
EEK! A Penis!
It’s funny that Girardi has a nickname befitting of a goaltender. Let Hank play Defense and let Girardi get in goal!
_
Could you imagine Hank trying to stick handle?
have we traded Hank yet? Get rid of that no good goalie already! can’t even make a save when needed! ugh…
We traded him for Defending The Core. The rangers now own that semi-annual publication and Hank belongs to Mr. David Klein.
oh my!! what are we going to do now?! Will Klein play in goal for Hank now? He better play hard and make all those saves that really count!
Well we know that he has a lot of time to spend working on goaltending because he certainly doesn’t spend his time updating his semi-annual, online publication.
New Rangers goalie—Kleinqvist
!
Maybe this is old news others are long aware of, but I just saw that the Rangers cannot buy-out Drury because of his chronic injury situation, so that his cap hit of 7+million for this coming season stays on the books.
Rather than blast Drury before the issue is resolved, I will stand back and say, let’s see if he is reasonable, if he at least meets the club half-way? If he does, then he will be exhibiting class and dignity I have not seen in him before. But if he just takes the full 7+million, contributes nothing on the ice, and laughs all the way to the bank, I will have to say that, for the first time in my lifetime as a New York Rangers fan, I actually dislike a Ranger player with a passion and intensity.
In fact, years ago, when I was professional athlete playing age and used to attend about 20 home games per year, I felt a brotherly kinship with the players, and wished that God had given me the talent to don the uniform and contribute to the Ranger cause.
So let’s just wait and see what unfolds here, but I am not optimistic that this man will do the right thing and take some responsibility for his condition, in the best interests of the organization.
Boom Boom, what do you mean halfway? And his salary is $5M next season, not $7M…
Boom Boom – I think the judgment of Drury was made when he refused the buyout and countered by saying he would file for this ludicrous “medically unable to play” scenario. (I am not saying it’s always ludicrous. Just here).
Boom Boom
you saw it just NOW? for real?! we’ve been discussing that issue on this blog since last week! Shame on you for not paying attention!
Butt-Chin said he’s excited to be a part of the Winter Classic, and 24/7. So I guess that means, he wont show up for those five or six games.

LOL! Last night, I went back in the archives and found this post from back when Sam ran the blog. It is a classic!!! I think it sums up Drury’s attitude and career as a Ranger…
http://rangers.lohudblogs.com/2008/12/23/chris-drury-tries-a-jedi-mind-trick/
“All this Jagr talk is making me feel happy,” Penguins defenseman Kris Letang posted on his Twitter account on Tuesday.
Wow. NYR. Nice find. Drury is classic
_
*“I’m certainly not going to let it ruin my Christmas…”*
I love how the comments just don’t change….not even 2 years later.
Good for Kris…however, this “Jagr going to the Pens” talk is making me want to barf…He should have ended his career as a Ranger!!!!!
LOL! Stuart still acting like he’s the smartest NYR fan. Haha! I don’t remember him from that time. One of the top dopes here.
I have a feeling, he’d light NYR up in those six games against us.
umm, Carp
The whole concept of “making the big save” is nebulous at best. As is that of a goalie being garbage if he hasn’t won a certain number of series or Cups regardless of the teams he was on (last time I looked this was a team sport.)
And when your argument is that these things completely outweigh measurable concepts such as career statistics, then the argument loses all credibility in my eyes. Not even relating this to Lundqvist specifically – it’s tiresome when these views are put across in the wider media about any number of players.
LW authoring a “big post” when it counts.
Late at night nonetheless! Almost 11 p.m. for him and he still has those creative juices functioning.
Yeah, CTB, LW3H usually does…I just need some help with his Brittish accent…
My Russian take: we’ve been dealing with a typical troll all day. There is no substance in his statements. Nor there is any real hockey knowledge. He just makes a random statement to bring up a discussion. No matter what anyone says, he disagrees…Or agrees to an extent, just to expand to the next questionable statement…And so on….Let it go, folks. DFTT!
Drury contract calls for five years, total 35.25 million = 7.05 million per year. Column I read said that the Rangers are stuck for the final 7.05 million, and it stays on the salary cap books.
eric…can you or anyone out there post up zip’s live chat from today? i’m not a subscriber,so i’m out of luck…thanks
Great advice, ilb! It’s very hard to do but you’re right.
I’ve been saying that for months, Ilb. Nobody listens! I’m a misunderstood soul!
Anyway, I don’t know why Carp doesn’t ban him.
Boom Boom, his cap hit is $7.05M, his actual salary next year is $5M.
Boom Boom, if they can’t buy him out, his total hit of $7.05M counts against the cap, but it could be used to go over the cap up to that amount. A few days back we had a long discussion about it, and most of us felt that as long as they can stay under the summer cap number, it could actually be beneficial to the team. And with a new summer cap number at $70.4M, it seems even more doable.
True, ilb, but there have been plenty of regulars on here over the last couple of years making the same tired argument about Lundqvist and goalies in general, not just Orr’s new friend.
But hey, I’m now 1-0 lifetime in making the big post when it counts, so that makes me officially the greatest poster in Rangers Report history, regardless of the other mediocre Carcillo I might have pumped out.
Pumping out mediocre carcillo describes JR’s comments, LW. Please, don’t take away what belongs to a true professional.

I’m actually in Banff, Alberta at the moment. (Seemingly home to the second largest population of Australians in the world. First being every bar in London, third being Australia itself.)

LW, we all know full well that the best poster in RR history is Yenner Mot. Tiki gets honorable mention.
Um, I think skiing resorts in Colorado have something to say about Australian population, LW…
Hmm, something doesn’t add up about the number of Australians not living at home. it’s almost as if they are imposters. But why the hell would anyone pretend to be Australian?
Carp, what’s with the technical blog problems? Can we get the I/T guys on this?
What problems, Doodie?
Wow, we get to see the real Doodie! What great defense from Bear!
doodie…thanks for the link!!!

Laurel,
Do you feel like a need of use any extra Sunday newspapers recently?
Oh, come on. It’s you. :)
ilb – How about GGYS – Go get your shinebox!
All this talk about Jagr is making me think about where he will ultimately end up. Interesting thought…I am inclined to think that Pittsburgh is perhaps his best bet (although I would personally hate it) because he would probably receive preferential treatment from the refs playing with Crosby there. It’s just the way it is…remember back in the 2008 playoffs how lopsided the officiating was in the Pitt series?
From an old Daily News article:
”... Jagr said that while he considers diving personally abhorrent, he believed that Crosby probably deserved some preferential treatment from referees because of his stature as the league’s signature player.
“I don’t know if it is right or wrong, but that’s the way it is and that’s the way it’s most of the time been,” Jagr said. “I remember when Mario was here, we were getting some calls. I had more advantage seven years ago. They give you more respect. But maybe that’s the way it should be.”
http://articles.nydailynews.com/2008-04-27/sports/29431473_1_nhl-referees-jaromir-jagr-sidney-crosby
If he wants money, then he wont be a Pen, because from what everyone says, they’re not going to give him a ton of cash.
I’d like to see him patch things up with Pissburgh, but I’d hate to want them to win a Cup if NYR can’t.
Life would be much more easier for me if he just signed with the fuggin Wings!
That will work too, Spider….
I’ll believe Jagr is returning to NHL when he signs, Orr…
ilb Your act of mistakenly picking out trolls is tired. If you have nothing of value to respond to my posts with, I suggest you ignore my posts. Since your reading skills aren’t up to par, I mentioned my discontent with Lundqvist upon him being called the King by Gift, so my Lundqvist comment was not random.
lw3h I can appreciate that. However, it is very similar to the clutch and not clutch discussion discussed amongst the media all the time. Also similar is the Cup discussion and the pressure of the stage discussion.

Carp, thanks for that awesome PDF link from USA hockey, by the way. Good stuff in there…

Did you see that the fans voluntarily cleaned up Vancouver? So, does that make rioting okay now?

I’d like to pee in a car.
