A lot of time to kill before the finals

I don’t have much to offer today.

Meant to link the other day to the story about the MSG renovation and the photo of the gutted Garden from the Record. You can see it here.

Also, in case you missed it, was the great news about Manny Malhotra being cleared to play in the Stanley Cup finals after suffering what originally was feared to have been a life-altering, career-threatening eye injury.

You can read that here.

Kind of helps for those on the fence about a rooting interest in the finals, eh?

Still looking for a few volunteer guest bloggers for the next two weeks. Let me know if you’re interested at rcarpini@lohud.com.

I don’t care what they do to the garden.. it will never be NEW again.
They did the same thing to old Yankee stadium in 1976.. and it was Old fast.

  2. And This One Will Last A Lifetime on

Great news for Manny and the Canucks and the NHL….I recently read that the vancouver Canucks this year are the statiscally most dominant team in the NHL since the back to back 1977 & 1978 Montreal Canadiens. Most Goals scored…least goals against…best PP…3rd best PK…on and on….By the way, Montreal went on to win the cups in those years, had the best goalie and the MVP…same as Vancouver…very very convincing…makes me predict Vancouver in 5

I think the only cup the bruins will be drinking from are the ones they wear.

  4. Morning all. Adam Rotter has a great story about Boogaard over on the right ……>>>>>>>>

  5. Anyone else watching the French Open? Whatever noise Schiavone makes when she strikes the ball is really frightening me..

  6. Yes, Carp, it’s an excellent story about Boogaard but it’s so sad. Of course his death is tragic but add to that all of the suffering since his last concussion and the loneliness he felt in Manhattan. It makes you just feel like crying.

  7. And at the other end of the spectrum, there’s Manny Maholtra cleared to play. Just WOW!

  8. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The proud winner of 3 Latona lunch points!!) on

    Morning ILB and all!!

speaking of the “Rocket”, stephane quintal was also in that movie (I actually like him as a player) and it made me think of the time he and cairns (with the isles) got in a scrap and continued to yell at each other from the penalty boxes for about 3 minutes. So I’m trying to find a link of it online and ran across this of manny… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHUVS1SKRH8&feature=related

anyone know anything about that truco (or turco maybe) winger that is in the draft?

  9. wicky,

Do you mean the Slovak Jurco? He apparently has ridiculous stick-handling ability. I know of no Truco/Turco.

  10. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The proud winner of 3 Latona lunch points!!) on

yes, I meant jurco…thanks for the correction

  11. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The proud winner of 3 Latona lunch points!!) on

    latona, sheesh so sorry!!

  12. wicky,

No need to apologize. There’s a video of him on the NHL website of him stickhandling, I believe. I don’t know too much about him.

  13. here is what someone on “Ranger Greats” facebook page offered:

“You know we usually urge patience when it comes to the Rangers. But here’s a big, bold, aggressive and ultimately smart move for the team to make this offseason: sign RFA Steven Stamkos to an offer sheet. The price (four number one picks?) would be exorbitant but his youth and skill set make it a worthy investment.”

  14. He doesn’t need NMC, Carp. He turns 35 before July 1st. It’s going to count against the cap regardless if he is sent to AHL, gets injured, or retires. And trading him will require moving 1st rounder back. No, thanks.

Good afternoon, ‘heads! How’s everyone doing without hockey?

  15. Useless move, CCCP. Tampa will match. They’re $7+M below the cap and their current payroll includes $5M contract of Gagne, he becomes an UFA on July 1st.

  16. Will its nice to see Malhotra back, just can’t root for canada…ever
Plus Boston’s my second favorite team.
    Go B’s… ;)

  17. ilb, but the NMC keeps him on the Rangers roster, sort of like the captain … and unlike Redden.

    offer sheets are useless.

  18. Wicky (Going with the 18" tires on this thing) on

Speaking of Horton for the bruins, didn’t malakhov beat him down in fight at the beginning of 2004?

  19. Malakhov didn’t do very often, but he could throw ’em. Another Euro pansy :-)

  20. i’m torn…i hate all things Boston, but I also hate all things flannel and curling…OMG!! WHAT DO I DO????

  21. JimboWoodside on

The Memorial Cup final game is on a 7 eastern time on the NHL Network, for anyone who cares.

  22. Malakhov was a beast when he was mad. But wasn’t mad very often. Could probably have been better than he was given his size, his toughness, his shot and his skill.

  23. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Hope the final goes 7 with lots of OTs…doesn’t matter who wins… I just want to see drama…

  24. JimboWoodside on

I hope the powers-that-be never let the Stanley Cup become an advertising tool for any company like they have with the Memorial Cup.

  25. Evening gang.

Spent a lovely day shopping, driving and at the movies. Would have been better to be at a pool party considering it was 90 today, but oh well.

    When does hockey start again?

  26. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Rangers rule !!!"...says Greg L. on

YAWN , Boston ( PUKE ) vs Vancouver ( BARF) …bring on the season , bring on the Draft!!! Bring on July 1st!!! Bring back our team , we have alot to bring to the table this time. This time we mean bizzness!!

  27. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Rangers rule !!!"...says Greg L. on

  28. Wednesday- yuck. Means I’ll have to be back at work, but then again, hockey, so yay.

That is a hysterical story about the Memorial Cup, Orr.

GREG! Nice to see you keeping the love alive :)

OK, I said my piece for the day. Off to watch Rent (judge me all you want, but I love the show)

  29. Greg, she’s still hot, but as a Tennis player, she’s pretty washed up. Her best years are behind her, for sure.

She just can’t seem to get her shyte together, even when other chicks manage to beat the chicks she can’t beat, she still loses!

  30. ZzZz NYR ZzZz "RANGERS RULE !!!"...says Greg L. on

Nice to see your having a blast Mickey , keep up the shopping ( women love to shop) and enjoy yer summer!!! My Ranger love last all year long…its a part of my life.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO BOSTON !!!! Vancouver did win the presidents trophy , so as much as I find it rediculas that crappy team from Vancouver actually fielded a championship team….well , we’ll see.

  31. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Just win ,baby !!!"...says Greg L. on

whaaa what did i miss? Did she lose today!!?? I thought she won and is still in it.

  32. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Just win ,baby !!!"...says Greg L. on

Sweeet she is still in it…shes gonna win just for me : )

Yo Carp!!! Im still fabergasted over here cuz of our Boogy dying all of a sudden . I loved that guy big time . He made me feel good watching him out there. He was my home town hero playing for the Rangers!!!

    Bring on the draft.

Bring on the preseason in hamburg or where ever in boonyland!!!

  33. Two things: First, it’s easy to say four picks for Stamkos is a great deal, but there’s always a chance those four picks each turn out to be Stamkos, and then how do you feel? Tampa has four uber-studs, and the Rangers have a center who is making $11 million-plus per year. Secondly, there’s no way in hell the Bolts would ever let someone gank Stamkos. He just insured that if there’s a Florida team moved out of the state, it won’t be Tampa. Not at least as long as Stamkos pulls on a jersey. That kid is the real deal, and every bit as talented as the top-10 players in the league.
