And the winner is … True Blue Mike

Congratulations to True Blue Mike for going 4-0 in the conference semifinals predictions — and not needing the tiebreakers he forgot to post. So, TBM, with the support of a great majority of your peers, you have been declared the winner.

Noah-Rangers, 28, who couldn’t get into the winner’s circle in the beard contest, did come in second in the second-round predictions contest on a tiebreaker after picking three of four series correctly.

Good job, boys. Send me your mailing addresses so I can ship out our modest prizes (Reminder, anybody who gets a good prize from out three contests, those were all donated by our friend ilb2001 — so thanks again, ilb. Anybody who gets a mediocre prize, well, that’s from me). Email me at

And for our first-round contest winners and beard contest winners, don’t go looking at the mailbox for your prizes yet. I haven’t had time to mail out anything yet. Patience. Patience.

Only able to catch the end of Nucks-Sharks last night, so not much to review … except from what I understand, the Sedin twins checked in. I think this will be a very good, long series. I suspect the same in the Least.

Also caught the latter parts of Red Sox-Yankees, and heard Bobby Valentine and Orel Hershiser noting that the new Stadium isn’t very loud anymore, and then they, with help from their cameramen, mocked some of the “padded seats” fans who were busy playing with their phones. Good for them.

I wonder if brooks’ sources have indicated to him anything along on the lines of a skid poop recently? He is, afterall, in the know.

Congrats to True Blue Mike. After going 7 for 8 with the tiebreaker in round one (4 series), I went a pathetic 1 for 4 in round two.

  3. You win some. You lose some. The important part is that you played the game Doodie.

  4. Doodie Machetto on

Good game last night. Also, with Seguin’s game 1 performance, how much do you think Julien is kicking himself for not dressing the kid sooner?

  5. i had a dream about the blog last night. all the boneheads met each other and we had a huge party. but we were inside the computer. like little digital mini boneheads inside the internet. very strange and everybody was looking for carp but he wasnt there.

  6. Good morning all! Grabby, that cracked me up! What a lousy Monday. Blech. Go Bolts!

  7. I like the dig Carp too at True Blue Mike for not including a tie breaker. Maybe it was just sheer confidence and he knew it would be unnecessary?

  8. Noah-Rangers, 28 on

Wow I had no idea I was even in the running.

The lesson: make predictions without thinking.

  9. That is correct billy. The lunch contest does begin today. I totally forgot. I am now anxiously awaiting Latona’s signal to begin!

  10. I don’t know. I like the ambiguity of this contest and how anyone can just throw out rules.

Today for lunch, I will be having some oatmeal mixed with some cold water to make a paste and then boiled with a little salt for about 10 minutes. This meal must be eaten in some fashionable ware, while watching “Trading Spaces” with pinky-out at all times.

I call this lunch “The Avery Gruel.”

  12. Doodie Machetto on

I’m out of the contest today. Too busy at work to make my salad sound enticing in a third way.

  13. Russ Cohen from XM radio will join us to talk about the NHL draft and what he projects the Ranger needs and wants are, as talk to us about the late Derek Boogaard whom he knew well.

It all starts at 8:30 EST tonight

    Blueshirt Banter Radio

  14. Larry Brooks shows once again he has no class and is an ass. There was no need to bring out that Boogie was talking to the people in the substance abuse and behavorial problems people. By doing this for one he broached Dereks confidentiaity that is suppose to be guranteed when a player talks to them.It also makes people believe that something he did caused his death. Thanks brooks. Derek deserves the truth come out so we should all wait until the tests come in before pointing fingers except if we are pointing fingers at low class brooks. The Rangers should ban him from MSG and the Rangers which would only be fair for a mud thrower like brooks. He’s only good because he pisses off torts with all of his vast hockey knoweledge …NOT!!!!!!!!!! RIP Boogey even if Brooks wants to throw mud on your life.

Oh crap, yet another hit on what used to be the joy of being a sports fan. Today, sports fans have to deal with being inundated with off the field garbage as regards contract disputes, strikes, lock-outs, drugs and alcohol abuse, spousal/girl friend abuse, racism, D.U.I tickets, violent criminal behavior and now, of course, the inverted sexual orientation of some of these publicity-starved ego-maniacs who are using the world of sports as a prop for their real social, political and business agenda.

What the hell are any of us supposed to do about the pathetic sexual-orientation story revolving around the owner of the Phoenix Suns – ruminate about it, feel joyful about his “coming out,” gleefully tell our children and grand children how wonderful it all is that they now have options beyond the bigoted, “homophobic” falling in love with a member of the opposite sex, getting married and having a family trap so many generations, before now, have had to suffer about?

Let me, for the record, be the FIRST person in the history of the western hemisphere to announce in public that my sexual orientation is HETEROSEXUAL, for all the shock and scandal that engenders. I mean, why should the only people pushing their sexual agenda on the rest of us be homosexual? Can’t we heteros have our own coming out party? That’s it, I am not “Gay” I am “Straight, narrow, bigoted, conventional and a prude.”

Now can we get back to real SPORTS news not fraught with politics and social agenda fawning you disgusting media parasites and blood-suckers who are forever in search of a trashy story, under the guise of “sports reporting.” And by the way, Vancouver won their opening game with San Jose, just for those of you who don’t have time to get to the real sports news buried on page 17.

  16. Fire Brooks! He’s a pansy!

    morning ILB and all!!

Monday is just one of seven folks, so relax!!

congrats true blue (i voted against the not letter of the law entry, but honest congrats to you either way). I much better at predicting draft picks than I am at series apparently!

  19. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

    thanks for the link.

Prust is such an awesome guy!

  20. Boom Boom – my sentiments exactly. Why should I (or anyone else) care who he wants to have sex with? Since when is it worthy of a big announcement? “Yooo hooo! Fellas! I’m gay! Aren’t you thilled to know?”

I have never heard of someone releasing a statement or having a news conference to report that he’s hetero. Why? Because nobody cares. It’s the same thing with the gays. I don’t care. And, no, I don’t think more of you for “coming out of the closet.” I still think your lifestyle is deviant whether you’re in the closet or out.

And I especially don’t care to read about it in the sports section. Do they think we should see in team rosters their height, weight, hometown and sexual orientation? Ummm, no.

  21. ok, ive eaten my zantacs, but i was still hungry so now I am eating chicken breast in Mole sauce with frijoles y arroz…then i yell out, “NOM NOM NOM NOM!”

  23. I think mao should win the lunch contest, primarily for his appetizer choice :)

I’m sure this won’t work, but I’m also going to politely suggest you all move on from the Welts story. Could get ugly. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents.

  24. Holy bone tingling. Thanks Wicky, I had not seen that. That is an emotional read.

  25. Funny, if there’s something I supposedly don’t care about, I don’t usually feel the need to rant for three or four paragraphs on a hockey blog about it, while protesting vehemently that I don’t care about it.

The ceremony the fans of the Wild held for Boogaard was certainly touching. Really classy move on the part of the Wild.

It seemed like he was a really good guy, and 28 is just too young to leave this earth.

    What a shame.

  33. wicky, thanks for that link…holy cow. Hats off to Mike Russo, who’s is doing a great job on this while obviously feeling his own pain from the loss of a friend.

I’m guessing, and I could be wrong, though I rarely am, that the Rangers will do something special at start of season. Not to diminish Boog at all, but his time here, literally given his injury, was very short, and fans here have a very different relationship with him than the Wild folks. I am in awe of how they responded…..

  34. Roe- it also shows how little we know about those guys off the ice, especially if they don’t play in NY for too long. Oftentimes all we see is whether they can skate or score. Or how much they make. There is much more to it than hockey.

  35. Roe, what’s awesome about the ceremony is that in initially had nothing to do with the Wild, but was started by two teenage girls…….Girls rules!

  36. I’m sure they will, mama…And I think Orr is right, they may play next season with “94” patch on their uniform. I hope they do.

  37. ahhh, the 94 patch. hadn’t thought of that…..great idea. I bet they do.

thanks for that link! i, personally, can’t draw for poop! but my girl is pretty good at it! i might make her draw a nice patch or a logo related to Boogaard!

  44. You’re right Mama! The lyrics are pretty bad. But you can’t deny that it has a nice xylophone line and screams GIRLS! a lot. Those are positive things.

    But I totally understand.

  45. ORR, excellent! Thanks :)

ilb, LOL, or my brother….even his two dogs are girls!

  46. Orr, can you smell the newspaper? It’s about an inch from your nose, I’m afraid….

  47. Mama, I was thinking the other day about getting a female dog to keep my two boys company. I’m afraid a belly band for a female dog would be a tough proposition though….

  48. You’re right Mama. I can promise you that I have only the best of intentions towards women. I have an undergraduate degree in Gender and Women’s Studies. That isn’t some weird pun either. It’s what it says on my degree!

  49. BroadwayRoe on

Mama, you are absolutely right. What a terrific job by two young women. They took initiative and held a beautiful ceremony for somebody that touched their lives. They didn’t do it for the cameras, they didn’t even know they were going to be allowed to use the stadium, but they went ahead and did it anyway. They would’ve been just as happy with a few other fans paying tribute on the street, but they made it happen.

Major props to them. And yes, girls rule :)

  50. Manny! Fab and interesting….would like to know more about that….e-mail me at

oh well, homemade cinnamon rolls and 3 cups of timmys for lunch (remember, late breakfast time for me).

  54. Timmys = Tim Hortons I’m guessing? Oh, I am too smart for myself!

Latona, wherefore art thou! Your lunch choice is driving the blog crazy!

OK, I gotta run, but you all better still behave! I’ll check in later!!!!! TA for now!

  55. Latona you area welcome sight on this site. I was just kidding when I said you were late. I am always kidding.

My Entry: “Today, a blend of beans combine to provide a thick and luscious chili emboldened by some generously seasoned lean Turkey. Complimented by a broth of wine, stock and tomatoes the result is a delicious chili that satisfied, fills and enriches the soul. Topped with a modicum of blended cheese and toasted to perfection, this lunch enticed my co-workers and took me back to a simpler time. A time when a boy could be raised South of the Border and free from Drug Violence.”

  56. Skimming through the posts, I say Mao has the lead. And I even planned a RESTAURANT LUNCH WITH MY MOTHER FOR THIS DAY. She’s having surgery in the morning, so I told her I’d take her out to eat. My ulterior motive was, of course, to claim victory on day one.

I had a delicious open face sliced steak sandwich, medium rare, with buttered garlic bread and plenty of au jus. The side included a delicious helping of vegetables and also some Freedom fries. As an appetizer, I had house special cream of chicken soup. And for dessert I had a small bowl of strawberry ice cream. DAMNIT MAO!

Manny, what did you really have for lunch? Since that was a joke, of course, as you always kid.

  57. a wicky…

Latona, LMAO! mao still beat you! fyi, fries ain’t free, even if they come as a side. Good luck to your mom tomorrow. Let us know how things go. OK, now I’m outta here (for now)

  58. fug you Manny, a double wicky, LMAO at Marc Jacobs comment…….I still have to get that T-shirt!!!

  59. Manny,

You did an excellent job on your Jacopo description. However, some errors in verb tense set you back.

    b. You win because you’re a good son.

  61. i posted the potential jersey yesterday… i took it from a facebook page of WC

sexual orientation banter, personal family health and surgical problems, creative lunch menu ideas, man versus woman superiority issues, and Jagr wants to make an NHL return ?

where the Byfuglien did I wake up today ?

  63. You woke up in the offseason, ATOWLAL. Note the multpile meanings of “offseason.”

Thanks for the kind words, Manny. I still believe Mao should win, however, but our votes are equal.

  64. Boom Boom Bathgate on

Here is the greater point. PRIVACY. Unless it was solicited, there was a time in America when your religious views, your politics, your position on the various social issues of the day, and yes, your sexual orientation, along with your income level, your estate net worth, your savings account and investment equity, etc., these things were closely guarded, considered highly personal, and not for public dissemination under any circumstances.

We have not only lost our Constitutional rights to privacy and freedom in this country, we now have media types and prying, self-absorbed neighbors who think they have the right to bombard us with their personal information that at one time was unthinkable for anyone to divulge in private or in public. Whatever happened to discernment, discrimination on the basis of quality, and a semblance of restrant in people’s lives, that they now wear their the private business of their lives in public as some kind of medal or commendation we are supposed to be in envy of?

  65. Latona – it would be awesome if you were the judge and you were 100% Biased. Just vehemently stating why you should win daily. I like that idea.

  66. Chicken sandwich from Checkers in the Bronx, while driving on I-95 … half of the tomato and mayonaise is now permanently embedded in the front of a nice, blue button-down shirt.

  67. nah. posted after hitting the stain with “Shout!” and hoping I “shouted!” it out.

don’t drive on your phones, kids. Right, ilb?

  68. That would be funny, Manny. However, I have moral objections that prevent me from voting for myself. Just can’t get past it.

I can always be a biased judge for all the other participants. Which would mean you never, ever win.

  69. That also sounds fun Latona. I don’t mind being the constant loser. I just like things to be funny. Always.

  70. I can just ridicule your posts top to bottom and then we can still select an actual winner. That can be MY friendship promise for life. I will always thoroughly pick apart your posts.

  71. Thank you. Please focus especially on my grammar. I get rather sloppy (as you saw) for someone who ridicules other people’s grammar. Especially tenses.

  72. OMG!!!! OMG!!!!! My first ever Latona Lunch Award!! I would just like to thank all the stress in my life…without you I would never be ingesting large quantities of Zantac in the hopes of preventing gastro-intestinal consequences. I’d also like to thank the makers of Gaviscon and the folks responsible for the online poker ban. Lastly, many thinks to Latona for honoring me with this prestigious Bonehead inspired award.

  73. No wait, really…OMG!! OMG!!…ah, maybe not…maybe it is just too much OMG! OMG!! …uh, wait a sec… i recant the ‘too much OMG’….OMG!! OMG!! LIKE….OMG!!
