Another reason to root for the Bolts

28

We’ve already mentioned a few times the Karma going for the Lightnings:

That they played with character and professionalism on the final day of the season, though they didn’t need the game (as, for example, the Giants did in their Super Bowl year).

And that a bunch of Tampa Bay players shaved their heads the week before the playoffs to raise funds for pediatric cancer charities.

And now, today, assistant coach Wayne Fleming is undergoing surgery to remove a brain tumor.

Good luck and prayers to him, obviously. Good luck to the good Karma Bolts!

Speaking of which, Games 3 and 4 in Tampa are on back-to-back nights. Tonight’s game is on Versus, but tomorrow Versus is showing Philly-Boston. So the Capitals-Lightning game will be on NHL Network at 7.

  1. He doesn’t have to be a “gem” in order for that to be a good trade.

It’s not like they were going to make the playoffs, so what’s the point of keeping him? Great trade.

For now it’s a good trade for the Bolts as well.

Wow – That is really great. I am happy to root for the Lightning in that light-hearted way that a Rangers fan might root for another team. Go Bolts……

The Roloson trade is the type of trade you like to see. An older goalie playing in vintage style or whatever is traded to a team that gives him a chance to take another run at the Cup. A Great story. The “Ice Mets” (great name NYR) get a young guy in exchange who could turn into something. The point is, Roloson left a non-contender to contend and he is helping the Bolts (greatly) contend. It’s a good story for the NHL.

    Better than Nabokov, eh?

  4. Manny, that was noonan who said “Ice Mets”….althought I do think that is a funny name for the Isles…

    DOH! Sorry Noonan!

NYR I just credit you with everything for some reason. Sorry about over-estimating you.

Sorry to hear about Wayne Fleming. Hopefully he’s OK. As for the Cup who really cares? Rangers are out – just want to see Philly out too. Other than that I say…..whatever.

Congrats to Mike Emrick on winning play-by-play Emmy. One of my all-time favorite broadcasters and you won’t find a nicer person!

    A true professional…

  10. IIRC, Wayne Fleming was the coach of Avangard Omsk when Jagr played with Cherepanov…
