The Block Ness Monster, Girardi, said on break-up day that he would not need any surgery. Ooops.
From the Rangers:
DAN GIRARDI AND BRANDON PRUST INJURY UPDATE
New York, April 29, 2011 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that Dan Girardi underwent successful surgery yesterday to repair his inguinal hernia. In addition, Brandon Prust underwent successful surgery today to repair a labral tear. Both are expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
Girardi led all Rangers defensemen and ranked second and seventh on the team, respectively, with career-highs in assists (27) and points (31) this season. He also led the league with a career-high, 236 blocked shots, and ranked second on the Rangers and 15th in the NHL with a career-high in average ice time (24:34). The fourth-year player skated in his 300th career NHL game on November 19 at Colorado.
Prust captured the 2010-11 Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award, voted by the fans as the player who performs “above and beyond the call of duty.” He established career-highs in goals (13), assists (16), points (29), and shots on goal, and was one of four Rangers to have skated in all 82 games this season. Prust tied for second in the NHL with a career-high, seven shorthanded points, third with five shorthanded goals and 12th with two shorthanded assists.

From the NHL:
BYLSMA, TROTZ AND VIGNEAULT NAMED JACK ADAMS AWARD FINALISTS
NEW YORK (April 29, 2011)—Dan Bylsma of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Barry Trotz of the Nashville Predators and Alain Vigneault of the Vancouver Canucks are the three finalists for the 2010-11 Jack Adams Award, presented to the head coach who has “contributed the most to his team’s success,” the National Hockey League announced today.
Members of the NHL Broadcasters’ Association submitted ballots for the Jack Adams Award at the conclusion of the regular season, with the top three vote-getters designated as finalists. The winner will be announced Wednesday, June 22, during the 2011 NHL Awards from the Pearl Concert Theater inside the Palms Hotel Las Vegas. The 2011 NHL Awards will be broadcast by VERSUS in the United States and CBC in Canada.
Following are the finalists for the Jack Adams Award, in alphabetical order:
Dan Bylsma, Pittsburgh— Bylsma, a first-time Adams finalist, helped the Penguins (49-25-8) gain home-ice advantage in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third consecutive season under his direction, securing the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. The Penguins earned the second-most points (106) and victories (49) in franchise history, overcoming a total of 350 man-games lost due to injury in the process. Most notable were the prolonged absences of star centers Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, who missed most of Pittsburgh’s final 35 games. During that stretch Pittsburgh posted a 20-11-4 record for a .629 points percentage.
Barry Trotz, Nashville— Trotz guided the Predators (44-27-11) to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the sixth time in the past seven seasons, finishing fifth in the West after the most competitive Conference race in League history. The Predators again employed stingy defense and balanced scoring to finish in the West’s top eight; they ranked third in the NHL in team goals-against (2.28) and had their four top scorers (Sergei Kostitsyn, Martin Erat, Patric Hornqvist and Shea Weber) separated by just two points. Trotz is an Adams nominee for the second consecutive season, finishing runner-up to Dave Tippett of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2010 voting.
Alain Vigneault, Vancouver— Vigneault led the Canucks to their finest regular season since joining the NHL in 1970-71, capturing the Presidents’ Trophy as the League’s top club with 117 points (54-19-9). The Canucks set single-season franchise records for most points, most victories and most road wins (27). They scored the most goals in the NHL (262), allowed the fewest (185), ranked number one in power-play percentage (24.3%) and placed third in penalty killing (85.6%). Vigneault is a third-time Adams finalist; he captured the award with Vancouver in 2007 and finished second with the Montreal Canadiens in 2000.
History: The award was presented by the NHL Broadcasters’ Association in 1974 in honor of the late Jack Adams, longtime coach and general manager of the Detroit Red Wings.

With Wolski, can’t they just bury him in Hartford if they don’t like his act next season? I mean, what’s the point of having a cap hit when you can just get rid of him and the cap hit? I think he’s in camp, maybe he gets the start of the season, then if he’s the same guy he goes to Reddenville.
Dave, hope you enjoyed your day of free advertising, but you’re going to have to do a lot better than that. If you want to comment and link to your site in your name, that’s fine. But you’re not spamming this place and annoying these fine, nice, upstanding people … or my readers.
Carp’d!
Why doesn’t a guy like Gaborik or Woski go play in the KHL where there is less pressure and much more money (NO TAXES)?
Well here’s to hoping them both a speedy and pain free recovery! Bottom’s up!
re-post:
Matthias, the reason I don’t really give a carcillo about the Worlds is that I don’t understand how you can have a World Championship while the best teams in the world are over here playing in the best championship in the world.
Carp : Did you “Carp” yourself?
“Carp- yes, they can waive him and send him to Hartford after the beginning of training camp. His all cap is off the books. But, buying him out takes off $3.33M of summer cap hit, and with Redden’s $6.5M back on, it’s a big number to ignore. Providing, of course, they go after Richards.”
That’s not to mention the $4 million in real dollars you would have to pay him to ride the buses. 10.5 million of salary buried in Hartford isn’t so appealing.
Carp double-Carp’d himself. I’ve never seen that before.
Well, Wolski is Canadian, so I doubt he has too much desire to go to the KHL.
Manny, I do believe this fine, upstanding, 26 year old man did…or maybe Carp did it to himself, I still haven’t figured it out yet.
No, he carped me…So I’m reposting:
Carp- yes, they can waive him and send him to Hartford after the beginning of training camp. His all cap is off the books. But, buying him out takes off $3.33M of summer cap hit, and with Redden’s $6.5M back on, it’s a big number to ignore. Providing, of course, they go after Richards.
They may need every extra dollar in cap space they can get.
Good thing there’s a new post. You don’t want to get me started on Dublowsky Silverdork, his sidekick, and his garbage site!!
Re-post, but ilb pretty much beat me to it:
Carp,
For the summer all 1 way contracts count against the cap, whether in NY or HFD. I think it all comes down to whether they choose to pursue Richards. If they buyout anyone it will obviously be to open up cap space. Buying out Drury alone doesn’t free up enough space to go after Richards, but buying out Drury+Wolski does
Mama loves Carp = Monster :)))))
Another thing to consider- there is a limit on total amount of NHL contracts allowed per team. I think it’s 48. Not sure where they are now, but what if McIlrath works out during the camp? Or someone else?
Yeah, Carp, I have to admit you have stolen the wind out of my sails, that is what I said to my friends over here for the last couple of years. But dont be afraid about me but I think that the level of play in the NHL in the last two years due to some reasons may have dipped a little bit probably due to injuries to some players or due to a high amount of games that the NHL needs to play in order to be profitable..
You need to understand that the game of hockey is a business and the IIHf want to promote the game over here in Europe and try to broadcast the best availabe european players playing in the european league to play a good turnament..
And then you have to realize my joy about winning against the Russians today. We have lost 36 straight times against them and they are giants against us we have even lost to them in double digits in the past when they had those super lines with Larionov, Makarov and Krutovs…
I hope I havent embarassed someone today with my chatter but its hockey day for me today as I am awaiting to have a glimse on the Caps-Lightning later the night for me…
ilb,
I thought it was 50. There’s also the veterans dressed for games limit in the AHL too.
Anyway, Carp, if you need to have a guest blogger during the summer, let me know. I have done a pretty good salary assessment of the team during the summer with some projected numbers in terms of RFAs signing and such. I will be happy to talk it over with some other “Cam Hopes” of the blog (CTB, Doodie?) and post it at some point.
Orr so you were the one who faced Dubi-Silverdork and Jess the always right Rubinstein very often ??????
So its long time in the past ???? Just to finish it up and to let me sleep in peace :
They are both retired now or they still delighting the Rangers world with their unlimited knowledge about the inside of the New York Rangers ?????
ilb,
Good explanation on player limits: http://oilers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=430807
You could right, CTB. And i think it’s 10 veterans…
Matthias, congratulations on your Miracle On Ice. And don’t worry, bud. You can talk about anything you like here. Well, almost anything.
Ilb can you give me an idea, if there is a specific reason the NHL is doing the business so complicated with waiving players buying out players or installing different regulations ????
Dont you think they probably loose to many fans out of the reason that everythings is way too complicated for the normal fan to understand ??????
Yup, thanks CTB…I think they had already 48 contracts (hence the number :-) when McIlrath signed- his contract, however doesn’t count against until he plays at least 10 games with the NYR.
I am just trying to build a following in this terrible economy.
Defending the Core – A Rangers site
No, Matthias, it’s pure business. All about money. They don’t really care if we understand, I doubt that is their priority.
Pretty funny photo shop of Avery at the Royal Wedding: http://www.nyrangersblog.com/2011-articles/april/avery-makes-spectacle-of-himself-at-royal-wedding.html
Yeah. I loved to piss those two know it all’s off. Especially his sidekick. Every time someone argued with him, he would hide behind Dublowsky, and even asked him to ban a few people.
I still can’t believe people would actually pay for that website. Fuggin madness!
Matthias, every American sports league has pretty convoluted rules about personnel movement. I agree that waiving, demoting, recalling, re-entry waivers, buyouts, no trade clauses, no movements clauses, entry level contracts, restricted free agents, offer sheets, arbitration rights, unrestricted free agents, etc. It’s a lot to get a full grasp of, but I tend to think only the truly pedantic fan gets wrapped up in that sort of stuff.
Told ya :-) Don’t mention that site to Orr…
Who are you calling pedantic? :-)
Am I permitted to continue posting here?
Nice! Pedantic was now used TWICE today on this blog. I used it to describe Toni Morrison and CT used it to describe fans.
Does this make us the smartest Blog ever?
One mention of Krutov, brings to mind a statement
by a no longer remembered someone who said that Krutov had “eaten himself out of the league” and that he could never see a Hot Dog stand that he could pass by without indulging to his heart’s
( and presumably his stomach’s ) content.
Vraiment? ????
Anybody remember when Dublowsky said “Cherepanov had no heart” and “Cherepanov didn’t come to the NHL because of Brandon Sutter’s hit, and that he’s scared of the NHL”??
He said that a month or two after the kid died. He only said it because apparently Cherry said in some interview in Russia “who cares aboot Blueshirt Bulletin”, which was mistranslated!
What a fuggin bouchebag! I remember Greg, and I called him out on it, and that’s when he shut the comments section down, and turned it into a pay only site. Loser!
Fugg him! Fugg Jess! Go Carp! Go RR!
Best example is, when i just see when a Red Wings team is able to get a player like Modano to an already very expensive team or the Flyers always get a bigger star in contrast to see that the Blackhawks lost almost half of their championship team because of salary cup restraints….
I will never like the salary cap, How can you destroy such a winning team, where the fans had so much fun because someone wants to have parity in the league..there is no reason to do it not a single one..How can you reward a hard working good GM (hear Glen Sather) when he´s loosing all his big horses to other teams ????
And I just comeback to my previous post.. How can you install such complicated rules that even a long time sports writer dont understand them ( and I dont blame him as I dont understand them for myself :):)
But its probably everything business as it is in every part of the word now !!!!
ilb is not pedantic, he’s pediatric :)
And I swear I’ve seen him on the show “To Catch A Predator”!
By the way, what happened to Greg? I thought he would be here reminding Olga aboot Game 7 of the Hawks/Nucks series.
Matthias- tell us you’re sorry….
uups. My post was too long and took too long of a time to write to see some of my questions answered….
Pedactor? Isn’t he dead?
Roger Pedacter?
This is double-paned sound-proof glass. There is no way that neighbor could’ve heard Roger Podacter scream on the way down with that door shut. The scream she heard came from inside the apartment before he was thrown over the balcony and the murderer closed the door before he left. Yes. Yes. Oh, yeah. Can ya feel that, buddy? Huh? Huh? Huh?
And to all a good night….TA!
Now I have seen two games from the Worlds and I should watch another one from the Stanley Cup Playoffs with Caps-Lightning to have real comparison !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good evening, Carp!
And Happy Birthday to my favorite nose-picking, Richards-fighting, mustache-growing lil man… BIG DUBINSKY!!!
refresh, refresh, refresh !!!
I miss game day, I miss Go time, I miss pre-game, the game & post game.
It’s gonna be a long summer
At least I get a hat trick !
Yeah Orr, I have to admit that I supscribed to his newspaper for a couple of months but the paper newspapers was totally uninspiring because everything inside was almost a month old until it was delivered to me overseas….so I finished the subscription and it became shortly afterwards a pay only site..and that was probably the end of the story…
I have to admit he made some reasonable points from time to time but you are right he always thought his opinions is the only right one and his arrogance send me away from him…
anyway its gone and they are both gone and now we have the wonderland of RANGERS REPORT :)
Good evening Sally as Carp proably forget to greet you…:)
I am a gentleman as well so I apologize in his name for his failure :)
Now its my hattrick Tony :) but as I said before its never a good sign :)
Carp, what are your thoughts on the Jack Adams?
Carp, i Hope you are allowing me one final link today:)
http://www.iihf.com/channels-11/iihf-world-championship-wc11/news/news-singleview-2011/article/history-germany-2-russia-0.html?tx_ttnewsbackPid=4926&cHash=53aa2d1e02
Vigneault? REALLY?? with that roster? WTB? I guess it was SOOO hard for him to get arguably the best roster in NHL to play well and be the best team in virtually every category this season… whatever
These rules did not come about because someone wants to have parity in the league or anything else like that as I recall this all arose from the CBA negotiated after the board of governors locked out the players because the ownership felt players were demanding salaries getting out of control relative to teams income. That is why there is a cap that changes according to league revenues. Parity was a result somewhat but there are still rich teams and poor teams. But nobody sat down and said well we think have ridiculously complex rules about the salary cap is something the fans will enjoy it was the result of a labor negotiation between the NHLPA and the owners. It’s not like when they decide to eliminate two line passing or anything like that. Any union contract is going to be complex. Just not all of them get a lot of air time on Versus :)
Yeah, Veen-Yo didn’t deserve a nomination. Like I said in the last thread, Carlyle should have been nominated, or at least Glee Boucher.
Silberbrg..I am really sorry but you sound like D…. S….....or J….R…..:)
but please dont toast me for that :)
The Rangers announced today that that Dan Girardi underwent successful surgery yesterday to repair his inguinal hernia. In addition, Brandon Prust underwent successful surgery today to repair a labral tear.
Both players are expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
It’s only pain.
In other news, Sean Avery wasn’t invited to the Royal Wedding
It’s only pain
I like Bob Herbert, not to be confused with Bobby Heber. He can be pedantic, he can be pedantic.
God bless my soul that someone mentioned the Royal Wedding !!!
I always thought the RR is a serious site :)
Is someone other watching Caps and Lightning tonite ?????
I wonder if LW went to the Royal Wedding. A British Rangers fan is rare. So, he’d be an appropriate guest.
Thomas Carlisle. Tommy C.
Matthias, you can link as often as you want … it’s just that multiple links sometimes send the comment to spam.
Good evening, Sally!
Dave, you are certainly welcome here. Just don’t overdo it, and please bring something to the table when you comment, not just your plug. And you don’t really have to put the name of the blog in there every time, do you? It’s in your name. That should be enough.
By the way, bet you Prust played with that torn labrum all season… He was able to fight too…Geez…
Orr, If yu would have seen the hat creation of Priscilla today you wont think he ´d be an appropriate guest :)
Dan G played with an iguana hernia.
There was a wedding?
Yeah, what’s with the hats on those people? One chick looked like she had an octopus falling off her head. Weird!
What´s the point for Dave to appear so often on this blog to promote his own when he must have realized that nobody obviously like him ????
By the way he never answered my question why he is not writing more entries in a week trying to get more fans of his own production ?????
People are sometimes strange, arent they ?????
I thought prust injured it in the fight with komisarek. The BS take down that should be a 5 minute major and misconduct for any player who uses it (sorry rant about take downs in fights over)
Don’t forget folks, have to save cap space for bieksa in the summer (ok, I won’t post that anymore….tonight)!
Yes Orr its seems to be that you have seen it as well but nobody is admitting it :)
I was sitting in a restaurant for lunch today after work and I wanted to watch the live coverage of the ATP tour out of Munich but then they stopped the live coverage and somebody of the waiters changed the channel to the Royal Wedding and I was forced to see it before my lunch ended..
But to the hats of those people, Orr, You need to go Ascot to the biggest horseracing event in the UK and its a famous site that those people show their best hat creations..its their way to attract attention, its in the human nature of the female gender :)
Carp i apologize if i should violate any species of the world :)
matthias
before my time, but didn’t the doors do a song about that?
now its enough today with me I probably have dispersed all those loyal posters on this blog!!!! got to go to bed its now almost 1 in the morning and it seems to be that nobody wants to watch Caps-Lighting as well :)
I have no idea wicky !!!!
Here is my good night song :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nA18g_PwG0
I guess we can add Edzo to the astonishingly lazy “Neuvirth outplayed Lundqvist” bandwagon then…
And Joe Mich is sharing the spot between the benches with Pierre McGuire. Awkward.
1-0 Bolts already
A shot of Semen in the net
Craps are now pregnant with a goal. 1-1
Bad turnover on that tying goal. Bolts were buzzing before that…
Man down! Man down!
Show it already
Gagne down on the ice. Pulling out the stretcher, I think.
Head smacked against the ice. Ouch.
Yeah – not much the league can do about that – ice is still hard, and players do fall down….
I disagree, Jimbo, that was a cheap hit, it was a racist hit, and the ice should be fined for it’s actions.
orr=priceless
no goal
Just think how good this Caps team would be with Tom Poti in the lineup.
~ I would have rather have seen the Rangers get a higher seed but being the 8th seed is much better than being where we were a year ago.~
that’s some profound carcillo
Orr can I get a duh?
Bolts dodged a bullet there, but the fact remains that they are running around helter-skelter, and and not controlling the play at all…...if this keeps up, they lose this game.
Nah, Orr – the ice and Gagne are both white – couldn’t be racism! ;-D
Poti – hahaha! That would be an equalizer in favor of TB!
Duh! No shyte sherlock!
LOL! Yeah, they are both white!
The NHL is racist! Why is the ice white? Why can’t the ice be black, and the puck be white??
Or is that racist too?
Boy, this looks like Caps-Rangers…..
“The NHL is racist! Why is the ice white? Why can’t the ice be black, and the puck be white??”
That reminds me of a line that was on the Imus show several years ago – they had a guy on doing an obvious black-accented dialect in a telephone call, and the guy said “I don’t like ice hockey – the only thing black on the ice is the puck, and everybody be slappin’ it around”
hockey is a racist sport. white guys on white ice, hitting a black puck with a stick then trying to deny it from its goal
We’re still making jokes about racism? Making jokes at the expense of the millions that suffered through it. Who’s looking for attention now? Saddening. I really wish tr-808 would post more often, it’s a shame that the idiocy of Orr drove him away :( – Tiki
Holy Edzo Edzo. Can Joe M shut his yap for 2 seconds. Someone please tell him he is not the primary color guy. Whaddya think Edzo. Nice pass wasnt it Edzo. Edzo that was a clean check. Edzo can I buy you dinner. Edzo I wished my partner was Ed then I could call him Edzo instead of Samzo. Whaddya think Edzo. I have said Edzo more in the first period that Pierre did all year, isnt that right Edzo.
How are you tonight, Jimbo?
Still wondering what’s going on with Linda in those disastrous storms.
“hockey is a racist sport. white guys on white ice, hitting a black puck with a stick then trying to deny it from its goal”
LMAO! Hilarious!
Tiki calls me a racist, so I’m calling him a pedophile, since he’s a die hard fan of one. Bwaha!
Meh, 2-1 Craps
C’mon, guys – let’s not start that up again…...
Not only Linda, but what about MickeyM? She’s in that geographical area, and I haven’t seen her post here lately – has she?
First game Fehr was in for Knuble against us I think he was +3
Yeah – Craps seem to be in control of this game – Bolts don’t seem to have it tonight…at least, so far..
Yeah – and Knuble usually breaks our chops, too – no rest for the weary!
Didn’t even think about MickeyM. Oh man. I hope she’s okay too. I appreciated the Lightning helping us into the playoffs, but gotta go for the Capitals here.
Hello, Tiki – that is you, isn’t it? I’m OK, how are you today?
It’s nice to have guys step in AND step up
It’s me :) Glad you’re doing well. Im good.
Yes, remember the night that the Rangers were eliminated (I think it was that night)? Mickey was complaining that the tornado that hit St. Louis was taking away the TV coverage of the Ranger-Cap game….
Yeah, Avery did that for us. How many goals did he score??
Speaking of Avery, I wonder when that Vogue movie is coming out. Apparently there will be a Stan Fishler cameo.
No wonder why Fishler was kissing his ass for so long :P
Let’s not fight with each other, guys.
Linda’s in Huntsville I think, what about MickeyM?
Avery did what, Orr? I must have missed something…
MickeyM is near St. Louis, I believe….
Mickey’s in Missouri. Just tried calling Linda’s home, power must still be out, went straight to recording.
Yow! An empty net – they dodged another bullet…..
I could have swore Avery scored a goal. The way everyone talked aboot him, I thought he must have!!
I know hit stats get kind of screwy and I don’t really want to get an Avery thing going but he only had 5 hits in the 4 games. Stepon was the only one with less.
“Just tried calling Linda’s home, power must still be out, went straight to recording..”
does that make sense? was it the phone company answering service?
Tied up! Go Bolts – you’re lucky to be even!
Don’t know. Sounded like a cell phone voice mail box, but it’s her home phone, Im sure. “You have reached an automated voice messaging system….”
Hahaha!!!! Neuvirth, meet a team that can score!!
LOL Jimbo. They’re also not getting the anti-NY referees that are relentless and determined to take NY out of the playoffs.
We own the Caps 2nd round draft pick, so it’s better for the Rangers if the Caps lose.
You know, I was kinda surprised that the refs didn’t blow the whistle quickly on the Bolts first goal – big pileup in front of the net, I figured they would blow it dead – then, they called back the Caps “kick-in” goal…..maybe the Caps are gonna get jobbed in this series….
Good point, ddeb – I’m for TB in this series anyway.
They’re not facing the Rangers any longer, Jimbo. That’s why. 1 + 1 = 2
They’re not facing the Rangers. The Lightning winning this series gives the bruins home ice next round. 1 + 1 = 2
That’s what it should have read the first time.
Bourque from Ourque trailing 3-2 in 3rd per of game 5, advance to finals with a win.
Me 2 Jimbo
Tik, the Bruins have to get past the Flyers first – I’m not convinced that they can get that done.
lets go lightning
anyone know who the Gmen drafted in rd. 2?
What the hell was that call!?
brilliant effing reffing – yo jimbo
By the way, Torts didn’t deserve a nomination. He did a fine job and has the team on the right track, but you don’t get best coach consideration for squeezing your team into the 8th spot. At least, not all that often. Bylsma did it without Malkin and Crosby for most of the year. Trotz did a remarkable job in Nashville, and Vancouver had the best record. You could even give Boudreau a lot of credit for changing the team’s entire philosophy in the middle of the season and leading them to the East’s best record.
Can’t make any contact with a guy going back for an icing play? That’s a penalty now? I can understand not allowing an opposing player to smash into the puck retriever full-force, but the TB player hardly toughed the Cap’s player!
“touched”
Dom Moore does it again!!
Moore, Moore, Moore, how do ya like it, how do ya like it
torts was obviously snubbed for 1 reason…sather will be getting GM of the year award…cant have 2 winners from same team…
Good one, ddeb!
Weeee! Fugg you Craps!
Bolts in 5!
for those of you with children, the caps goalie, annoywirth, is a dead ringer for dora the explorer
Steve Downie is surprising me – I thought he was just a thug, but he’s playing well in these playoffs…
JR and adismal in the studio…
Labrum tear isnt so hard to play with, its just loose and crunchy. Prust really needed to get this surgery under his belt quick, the shoulder is a really difficult one and i hope he’s the same player (scoring wise) after a summer rehabbing
Tampa wins
Great Ape, er..Great Eight was held silent :)
WOw, just saw some highlights…
Neuvirth sure looked stellar tonight, eh? Ovi only had 2 shots, huh? For the Lightning to win, Roloson will have to play this well again and again… too bad about Gagne, but one man does not a team make… one can wonder if they’ll be any payback for that play… and I hear the Caps will be giving a soccer clinic after they’re ousted by the Lightning…
2nd Round – DT Marvin Austin, North Carolina, 6-2, 309lbs, 4.83
SCOUTING REPORT: Austin did not play football in 2010 as he was kicked off of UNC after being ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA for illegally dealing with an agent. Austin lacks ideal height but he has an outstanding combination of strength, power, and athleticism. He moves very well for a big man and has a touch of explosiveness to his game. He can play both the 1-technique and 3-technique tackle positions. Austin has the ability to be strong at the point-of-attack against the run and he has good initial quickness and agility as a pass rusher. He can be disruptive, but he needs to play more consistently with leverage, power, and discipline. At times, he is blocked too easily. Austin does have a reputation for having an inconsistent motor – he needs to play hard on every snap. He dominated at times at UNC but was considered somewhat of an underachiever. If he plays with better technique, consistency, and effort, Austin could develop into a very good player.
Neuvirth looked very ordinary tonight.
thx dde…maybe OL next few rds….and LBs of course…great grab of the prince in rd. 1
red wings remind me of the rangers in terms of talent and style of play…
i hope everyone at the shark tank is sitting with their backs against their seats….
We should be so talented! I’d take that!
We have 2 #1 centers? We have 2 defined powerplay QB’s? We have veterans with many rings as well as a stocked system?
I mean, no we dont.
Just got back from a night out…
“There was a wedding?
haha! LW, that’s hilarious. It must have been a zoo by you today!!
Some game for the Bolts. I missed the whole thing…how did Dom Moore do? He’s like my favorite player now…
“red wings remind me of the rangers in terms of talent and style of play…”
LOL! Eddie, what are you smoking? I want some!
Dom Moore got an empty-net goal, but he played well throughout the game.
Nice! good to hear, Jimbo….
Yeah – Dom Moore has developed into a pretty good player. He doesn’t score a bunch of goals, but he checks well, plays good defense, and he’s positionally sound.
Let’s Go Sharks!
I’m sick and tired of Detroit always contending
It must be extremely boring being a Red Wings fan…there is no drama with that franchise
CCCP, I wish the Rangers were so boring.
Moore came close to putting one in his own net. That Roloson was sharp!
I like Moore because he is a smart player. Not flashy, but smart. He played good minutes in his time with the Rangers…always did what was expected of him. I agree that he has developed into a nice player…
Oh, really, billy? OK…that’s not very smart :P
billy
Winning is great…Im not arguing there
What do their fans talk about about? “hey, we won again” “Now what?” “next game we win again…cool!”
Ain’t nothing beats NYR drama!
NYR_FAN I’m pretty sure I saw him on a play put one on net while trying to clear it back to the boards… Good thing Rolo was on it, would have been tragic goal… It was an honest play though, but we all know how that happens sometimes…
3CP, he was just making sure that Roloson was paying sufficient attention in the game! ;-)
Jimbo
What do you mean?
CCCP, I see your point, but wouldn’t it be nice to just be able to relax and enjoy some success for a while? We could talk about how great things are and celebrate instead of arguing about line combinations and wondering if we’ll ever score on the power play…ever.
I get it that the drama drives us as true fans, but at some point, we’re due for a good run. I’ll take all the band wagon fans and all of that b.s. and won’t care a bit. It would just be nice to have a team that goes deep into the playoffs year after year… we could pop the cork on something good and just be happy about it for once and not miserable and constantly searching for answers that just don’t exist.
Downie didn’t have that great of a year this season, compared to last season, statistically. But, he has been really good in the playoffs.
He’ll always be known for his pre-season knockout punch on Jessiwoman, at least to me :P
3CP, I meant that Moore was putting the puck back on Roloson to keep him “on his toes” : P
“There’s nothing quite like being a NY Rangers fan.”
LOL! Yeah, seriously, Downie has been really good for them…he’s got some real skill to along with his aggressive style…
Nice save by Howard on Pavelski, btw…
Ooops!!! Sorry, 3CP – that comment was meant for NYR_FAN, not you!
Maybe that Downie KO was what I was remembering when I thought of him as a thug – but I seem to recall him getting disciplined by the league office for some cheap-shot play…I didn’t realize that he actually had talent.
Anyone think Hannan should be disciplined? If not, anyone think the Lightning should do something? If you’re playing chess and you’re about to exchange pieces, what do you look to take when your opponent eliminates one of your bishops? Hmmm…maybe you go after their Semin? shrugs Playoffs is war. If I were the Caps, I’d be praying for Gagne to be ok.
I heard Downie’s dad died in a car crash when Downie was a kid, and apparently he was in the car.
Jimbo, yeah, he threw a crazy hit at some Sens player in the pre-season. Left his feet and went straight for the head. I think they gave him a 20 game suspension.
nyr fan – its the chronic
I thought it was a clean “hockey hit”, billy.
They should just spear some Craps players balls, and be done with it!
Thanks, Orr – that must be what I was thinking of – 20 games! That’s more like it!
I don’t think the Hannan hit was dirty – he was just finishing his check. It was just unfortunate how Gagne went down. If he doesn’t lose his footing, there wouldn’t have been an injury at all.
However, I wouldn’t be surprised if TB takes some shots at him or some other player on the Caps..
Orr, Hannan body-slammed Gagne, who landed on his back and head. I don’t know if it was technically a body slam, or what it’s called in professional wrestling, but I know it’s not a hockey play.
Datsyuk’s got an ugly mug but such beautiful hands…outside of the NYR, Datsyuk is my favorite NHL player

Looks clean to me. Gagne just sort of pops up.
I see what you mean though. he gives him a shove on his way down, but I think he would have cracked his head, regardless.
word, I’ll take another look. I only saw it once, and it looked like Gagne was out of the play and off his feet and then Hannan finished him with a slam. I’ll check it out.
yeah, Hannan was just finishing the play it seems, it’s just too bad for Gagne that he was in a bad position and unable to brace himself. He hit the ice fairly hard there. Ouch. I kind of almost heard “FINISH HIM!” in the background though. ha.
I still stand by what I said when it happened, it was a very racist hit, and the ice should be fined!
Actually, it should be suspended. They’ll have to play the next game on a basketball court.
LOL! The NHL should do that. Just one game where they play roller hockey outside. Forget the Winter Classic!
oh man, there would be so many injuries most likely. you can’t stop and/or change direction on asphalt anywhere near how you can on ice, no matter how you try to match the hardness of your wheels and speed of bearings, it’s totally different. It would probably be funny as heck to watch, but really dangerous for the players. So, whattaya say, Pens vs. Flyers rollerblade classic? :D
1-1! Go Sharks!
LOL! Yeah, Pens vs Flyers would be perfect.
You know…Gange has to be smarter than that…why would you go into the corner at that angle for a puck with someone behind you? That’s not a smart forecheck…He put himself in a bad position…
That’s a rough hit but it’s clean…Punishment is still part of the game…You should fear the corners and respect them…play smart…Duh!
I kind of feel bad for the guy, though…He has a history of head injuries….
In retrospect, it did look like Hannan body-slammed him – but I really don’t think he was meaning to do that. It looked worse than it actually was.
The slam is part of finishing the check, no? Is that a penalty? Not sure it is…unless there is intent to injure…
Wings got lucky there!
Going to OT!
it’s kinda weird how the body-slam play gets no call, but that awesome and clean hip-check from last night’s game got a call for clipping. wtb?! The officiating as we all know leaves much to be desired…
Lots of extra hockey this postseason! AWESOME!
I’m not sure, NYR – I mean, if you hit a guy and he’s going down as a result of the hit (as long as it was a clean hit, which this one was), what are you supposed to do, catch him?
Joe Pavelski is Ryan Callahan of SJ
I’ve always felt bad for Bertuzzi. He’s never been the same since that hit.
Love Pavelski! I want him to be a Ranger!!
You win the fantasy hockey leagues, CCCP?
That was perfectly-executed hip check (last night), and there used to be so many more of those back in the old days – I have no idea what that ref was thinking!
It’s funny, back when hip-checking was more popular, there was the thinking that “low hits” were causing players’ knees to get injured, and I suppose that this was true, to some extent. But now, nobody hits low anymore, and there’s all this furor over head shots.
What is the solution?
I didn’t see the hit. Did he get him on the knees? If so, that’s definitely clipping.
I’d love to have Pavelski too! The comparison to Cally is spot on.
USA all the way!
LT56
Finished second in my league and first in the other league with some of the boneheads
May I ask who you are? :)
Bergenheim with goals in three straight games?? Seriously??
I’m trying not to hate Butt-Chin as much as I already do, but when I see all these 3rd-4th liners with more goals than him, it really pisses me off!
Tiki. Congrats. I thought you’d win both of the leagues.
No, he did not get the player in the knees – but the guy that got hit went “over the top” and did a flip, like the recipient of a good hip check will sometimes do, so it looked like hell, but it was a clean hipcheck, not a clip/
Jimbo, I don’t know, but what needs to happen for sure is the officiating needs to improve. Maybe the calls should be taken off the ice, and put in a booth where they can see a replay IMMEDIATELY, and in the process, take the refs off the ice leaving only 2 linesmen. this will increase the accuracy of calls and increase the amount of open ice with 2 less bodies. Linesmen can call majors and call the lines, drop the pucks and try to keep the peace when needed.
how some things are called and others are overlooked and how that all changes on a seemingly nightly basis…. the inconsistency of the whole thing is pretty weak.
Yeah, Orr, the hip check last night was about as textbook and clean as they come. I would have been annoyed if there was a ppg on the ensuing pp.
Yeah, the officials need to study the rulebook all summer long. They must suffer from short term memory loss, like Stewie.
It’s a tough game to call, but when there’s four of these guys on the ice, you’d think it would be a little easier at making the right calls/non-calls.
What a play by that Wings D-man. He just saved the game.
Referees are more interested on making an impact on games, and making their presence known – as if sports are about the worthless referees – than making the correct calls / non calls.
Four minute PP for the Sharks!
Pavelski ends it!
Holy Abdelkader!
Bad luck for the Wings – it was unintentional, but he got hit and bled…
SHARKS WIN!! WEEE!
Woah! That just went wide! And that one went in! Wow!
LOL! How many bounces did that puck take before beating Howard?
Billy, when I asked what the solution was, it was a rhetorical question – I didn’t mean that you had to try to answer it. You probably understood that.
Unfortunately, in any sport where one player can legally hit another, (football is another one) sometimes players are going to get injured – I don’t think there’s any way to avoid it.
WHO!? Ferryo!?
Deflected off Kronwall’s stick. Lucky break.
Ferreiro Bueller
Jimbo, it’s ok, I know it was rhetorical. Lots of times I take that as my cue to share my crazy theories. Sorry :( I would like to explore the idea of removing the refs from the ice though. I bet I know at least one Ranger that would have liked that just a few days ago :’(
Ugh, we can’t live in the past though. Ok, I gotta call it a night, early start tomorrow. Cheers, boneheads. :D
Bad break for the Wings – that Ferriero guy looks like a young John Tonelli.
I still want a 3 OT game. I miss those.
‘Night, Billy! Interesting idea, though – maybe they should have a replay booth like that, but it might get out-of-hand if there are too many calls that need that type of scrutiny – games would go on forever.
There are a few refs that I’d like to see plucked from the ice, preferably on a permanent basis – are you listening, Mr. Devorski!?
That was a wicked deflection – nothing Howard could do about that one.
Oh Tiki…did not recognize you right away…did you do something with your hair? ;)
SJ WIN! Good game!
LOL Jimbo. If the referees had called our series fairly, we’d have been up 3-1 in the series.
I put red white and blue highlights in my hair, CCCP. Thanks for noticing :)
Hahaha – you’re nuts, Tiki – now, don’t take that as an insult, please! ;-)
Yeah, we got robbed on a few occasions – but we weren’t very good in that series – we played a lot better in many, many regular season games.
It all started with Game 1 Jimbo. If they had blown the play dead because of lost sight of the puck, then we’d most likely have won. Whole different series. Unfortunately, fair refs weren’t in the cards. As usual.
That bad call set the tone, for sure. Well, better luck next season – it should be an interesting summer. Let’s see what Glen gets me for my birthday!
He’s either getting you Brad Richards or Michael Ryder :P
Maybe both if you’ve been bad
Well, Ryder might be nice, but he’s no Brad Richards!
Hahaha! Well – yes, I have, as a matter of fact!
If you’ve been that bad, then Slats might even re-sign Todd White, Alex Frolov, and sign Chris Higgins!
Jeeez! No, please – I haven’t been that bad! I didn’t commit any war-crimes or anything!
Kinda weird that Higgins landed on a team that is a favorite to win the Cup – and that he got the only goal in the last game – he couldn’t hit the side of a barn with a shot while he was with the Rangers…
Slats should have known better. You don’t sign a New York kid to play for NYR.
Didn’t work for Jessiwoman. it didn’t work for Sanguinetti. It didn’t work for Higgins.
I’m sure there’s more New Yorkers who have disappointed us.
Hmmm…......thinking about that…..we had Brian Mullen, but I wish we would have had his brother Joey…he was a sniper!
Nicky Fotiu wasn’t a disappointment…...and Cally is good too, but he’s from Rochester, I think..way up there.
Carp, are you already awake ??????
It took me 1,5 hours now to mow the lawn from 3.30 am to 5 am your time and now I am ready to go….:)
CCCP if you are already awake I have an highlight for you :)
