OK, kids, I just finished tabulating the results of our first-round predictions contest.
I will wait to make it official in case anybody thinks I made an error in my calculations. If so, please let me know by midnight tonight. I will double-check if you think I made a mistake. Otherwise, I will declare LW3H the winner at that time.
Here are the final standings according to my findings (and you know how much I hate counting, calculating or any other type of math, and how likely it is that I screwed it up):
1. LW3H … 8-0 record (it didn’t come to a tiebreaker, but he picked three series exactly correct, and had the Caps winning 4-1 in the clinching game).
2. Doodie Machetto … 7-1 record, four series exact, Capitals 4-2 in the clincher.
3. RT … 7-1 record, two series exact, Capitals 3-1 in clincher.
Congratulations, Boneheads. Since we’ve still got to vote on the Paul Mara Beard contest, and we’re having a second-round predictions contest, I’m only going to give out three prizes for this one.
Also, thanks to our good friend, ilb, for donating a few prizes for these contests. He’s the man.

As for me, I picked six series correctly (including three of the Game 7 series), as did many of you. I was surprised how many of you (us) picked the Rangers to win their series, and even more surprised how many picked Nashville over Anaheim (which was the other one I got wrong). Why didn’t you guys tell me that?
Eight of youse picked seven out of eight series correctly, and most of those lost only on the Rangers.

I tried gameknot. Too slow….I never know when I will have time to return…I prefer 10-15 min per player, maybe with adding 10 sec per move kinda thing..

dde – if you join icc you can watch real time….if not, i send post the aggebraic game scores here if you like…
ilb – i started playing chess in 5th grade or so….Fischer fever got me way into it in 72…..but i was more into sports….i played every sport imaginable, like most people here,..played college tennis.. very serious into that…played some satillite stuff…..tuned back to chess around ‘85…...starting playing OTB tourneys in 1989…now mostly on the internet – icc and chessworld.net for correspondence…i have about 300 books….1000 or so magazines (inside chess and New in Chess)...i studied about 4-5 hours a day…..now…maybe a couple of hours a day of study is about all i can afford….you?

My father taught me when I was 5. Everyone played some chess in Russia. I got serious in middle school, studied it for about 12 years. Was playing at a pretty high level back in Russia, then stopped when I moved to US. Started to pay again around 10 years ago, mostly internet, not the same…Still remember most of the openings, can probably give you a decent resistance, not sure for how long…

So i just go onto NHL.com and check the score to the Vancouver vs Nashville game and i see that our favorite former Ranger Christopher Higgins scored. Then i began to think, Wow the Canucks have a great shot at winning the cup this year and then i remembered that Christopher Higgins grew up about 15 minutes away from my house. I then started to think “OMG IF HIGGINS WINS THE CUP MAYBE JUST MAYBE HE WILL BRING IT HOME TO LI!”, I really really hope the Canucks win the cup now. Do you guys think that if he won he would bring the cup to his hometown?

I’m looking forward to Bolts VS Craps series…a bit of a dilemma though…I like Tampa because they are exciting to watch and they gave the Rangers extra 5 games this season…but I’d love for Ovechkin to go deep and possibly win it all
Craps won the season series 4-2, or it’s tied 3-3.
Roloson is riding a two game shutout streak against the Craps. Should be interesting.
Tampa has the scorers that NYR doesn’t have, but can their defense do as good a job as NYR did in the majority of that series? And can Roloson play as good as Hank?
I can’t root for the team that just eliminated the Rangers. Can’t root for Tampa either. Just think how bad Torts would feel if the team he left goes and wins the Cup? He’d get depressed and feel like he can’t coach anymore. Then we’d have Keenan back.
