Tortorella pre-game

Just went to both coaches’ press conferences. They were pretty bad. First of all, there’s nothing that anybody can ask at 1 p.m. that’s going to still be relevant at 3 p.m., much less at 6 or 7 tonight or when our papers come out tomorrow.

Second, these teams have played one game the last five days, so we’ve had all these practices and they’ve answered every question imaginable over that time. Third, they’re really not in the mood to do these things on a short game day, but they have to.

Quotes to follow shortly (and I mean shortly).

John Tortorella:

Has the second-period long change been a problem?

“No. No.”

On the young team gaining experience and drawing something from an elimination game:

“What do I look for? … We’re ready to play today. Young, old, middle aged, we’re ready to play today. Is that what you’re getting to?”

What lessons can be gained from playing an elimination game?

“You can ask me after. I probably won’t answer, but you can ask me after. We’re going to be ready to play. You guys are thinking up questions because it’s been two days … I’m sorry, go ahead, ask your questions.”

Do some players do better in adversity?

What qualities shine in that situation?

“Making a big play.”

Nobody could think of anything else, and you could clearly see no good answer was coming. So I asked him his favorite color as he left. He laughed.

Bruce Boudreau:

“I think in the end it’s going to be who wins more one-on-one battles, and like a lot of games, who’s going to win the special teams. And then the third thing, if you were going to ask me after watching the first four games, would be who gets a break. Who gets the lucky bounce. That’s the way the series has been going, so I assume it’s going to continue going that way.”

On seeing Mike Green looking more like he was pre-concussion:

“I think he’s playing better and better and better every game. He missed 26 out of 28 games there. He’s being responsible, he’s doing everything we’ve asked him to. If he scores he scores, but if he doesn’t he doesn’t. There’s a chance eventually that one of his shots is going to go in.”

Tired, cranky, and nervous, and Mama gets carped in her first post of the day! LMHAO!

  2. LOL, on my head stone, it will read ‘his passion against biased referees was unmatched by any other, and it was what did him in’

LMAO Tiki, I’ll leave a little pic of Bill McCreary under a pebble on top the of the headstone! ;-)

i feel very calm…why? – the fact that i know the rangers will win today, that, and my morphine drip is tremedously tremedous…

  5. wow 4-0 love it hopefully gives rangers hope it could be done.

    first hawks now lightning

  6. Good afternoon, Carp!

Like Tiki said, I gotta go to work at 3:00. It’s usually better if I don’t watch…

eric – things always in 3’s

carp – anything new on crosby?…is the arena abuzz with what crosby had for breakfast?

  12. Good point Eddie- people always die in threes so why can’t we get some good stuff in 3’s?

Plus – the Goonies just came on Television and you know what I always say…

    “Goonies never say die!”

  13. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

hey eddie, i saw a south park episode recently that made me think of you and crosby. All i’ll say is that Cartman ate backwards ;-)

  14. I didn’t, ilb. Some of “us” actually think he should be fired … and I’m sure those clowns will show up if they get eliminated.

I’m sniffing around for a Crosby update, but fully confident NBC will bring us up to day while showing us the highlights of the Lightnings’ rout.

  15. eddie eddie eddie on

carp – what i really would like to know is when crosby showers, does he wash his right arm first?…or his left?

  16. looks like bruce may have learned his lesson. I dont think you will see him being so loose lipped in the future.

  17. This team of no-talent clowns is done. Caps will light us up this afternoon. Wolski walks away in shame as he is called “Minnie-Mouse”. Just finish us off already.

  18. “I couldn’t believe how loud it was. Much louder than the Verizon Center,” Capitals defenseman Jeff Schultz told The Post yesterday.

It’ll be interesting to see how the VC responds to this obvious challenge.

Eddie, how can you have any nerves left? Haven’t you been drinking since sunrise?

  29. I think the problem is that Miami set the bar too high for himself during some good times for this team…..

  30. I think even Kennedy has more goals. There’s a lot of scrubs with more goals/assists/points than him.

Brashyte doing MMA?? If he wants a thrill, he should sign up for security at Chuck-E-Cheese. That’s where all the fun happens.

    (No chance.)

  35. Rhode Island Ranger on

First five minutes after today’s first goal (whichever team gets it) will be very telling. Expect the Rangers to be looser and just going for it. Less thinking.

    But, please, no overtime today!
