Marian Gaborik:

On the difference in the series:

“It’s hard to say. That fourth game, we had them, you know, that 3-0 lead. Definitely I think that as a point that maybe it went another way. But we came here (thinking) we can do it, with confidence, and we didn’t give in. We battled to the end, and too bad it didn’t work out for us. It’s definitely disappointing.”

On attacking Neuvirth:

“I think the third game we were better at getting in his face, and getting in the crease. But I don’t think we got enough pucks (to the net). They blocked a lot of shots. We didn’t generate a lot of quality scoring chances, and if we did, he was there. So, we were talking about we had to get into his crease and take his eyes away, but we could have done it more, definitely.”

On the power play:

“Yeah, special teams are critical. We couldn’t find the net on the power play. We’re talking about, they’re going to be aggressive. We didn’t come up with a lot of pucks when we got into their zone. Again, it comes down to getting shots through and when it’s not going, try to find a simple play and get it to the net and get a screen in front of him, which we haven’t done a lot. Special teams are huge and we haven’t come up with any goals.”

On his season:

“I don’t know. Obviously the season hasn’t been what I expected, but it’s definitely disappointing, especially now when we lost in the series. So it is what it is. It’s disappointing.”

On a carryover from Game 4 to the start of Game 5:

“We talked about we wanted to come out, we wanted to have a good start, we wanted to be physical. We did at times. They came out hard. We knew that. So, yeah, we could have made more plays when they were there and we just came up short.”

On the Capitals keeping the Rangers to the outside:

“It’s hard to say. I don’t know. They played a good game. Obviously we didn’t generate a lot of scoring chances, and again, when we did (Neuvirth) was there.”

On his number of shots in the series (he had 20, five in Game 5):

“There were quality chances, definitely. Just at critical times when there were chances, obviously, if those would have gone in, it would be totally different. So it’s hard to look back. The chances that we got, that I got, if half of them would go in, I think it would be different, a different series.”

On if there’s anger or disappointment:

“It’s kind of both. Frustrating and disappointing to come up short. It’s disappointing. We knew that we could play with them, we could take momentum to our side. We just came up short.”
