I’ll talk Rangers on WGBB-1240AM at 9:20

Just wanted to give youse a heads-up that I will be barking about hockey  and the Rangers on the New York Sports Exchange show with Eric Mirlis and Derek Wasiak on WGBB 1240 AM on Long Island at about 9:20 tonight. The show airs from 9-10.

For those out of range, you can listen to the live stream at http://www.themirl.com/nyse.html

Since the Rangers are skating at the Garden tomorrow morning, it’s doubtful we will have any pre-game stuff from John Tortorella. However, if I find a link after the morning skate, I’ll post it here … or you can do the same. I know that Jesse Spector often posts video of Tortorella’s pressers, and the Rangers site does too … though sometimes it’s just a snippet and sometimes it’s late to go up.

I will also have the usual pre-game notes posted in the morning.

Then Josh, 26, and I will be at the Garden for Game 4 … and I will also be at Game 5 and all subsequent games until the Canyon of Heroes. I think.

About Author

  1. First!

    Yo BANJ, Happy 26!

eddie – coming out party for #10…indeed…Gaby is due to score some goals in tomorrow’s game…I’m thinking at least 4…

  2. Carp – there was some talk of Sam Rosen retiring – maybe you could recommend me and Eddie for the job? We work seamlessly.

  3. eddie, so far in this series, the team that has scored more goals is 3-0. The team that scores fewer is 0-3. So the way I see it, if the Rangers had scored more goals than the Capitals in all three games, they could be up 3-0. Vice versa, if the Capitals had scored more goals than the Rangers in all three games, they could be up 3-0. So, I am predicting that if the Rangers score more goals than the Capitals tomorrow, the series will be tied 2-2, and the team scoring more goals will be 4-0 in the series. However, if the Capitals score more goals tomorrow, they will be up 3-1, and the Rangers will probably need to score more goals than the Capitals in each of the next three games.

And, no, we do NOT want overtime … for deadline purposes. Or a shootout, but that’s another discussion for the regular 82.

  4. eddie eddie eddie on

it does make sense that by scoring more goals, you CAN win…not ALWAYS tho…i better reflect for a moment…

  5. Holy Crap! eddie – you sucked Carp into our ridiculous world. And he’s great at it.

Carp brings up some GREAT points. Really. The series is indeed 2-1 right now in favor of the caps. If you think of the games as goals (both have a G so this shouldn’t be too hard) then the team with more G at the end of the series will win. You can think of it as a skills competition – first one to 4 G’s wins. Now – if the Rangers can score more G’s and then win more G’s than the Capitals – they should take the series.

    Eddie? Carp? Thoughts?

I am going to put Martha on some serious research project….martha? could you come in here please?

  6. Carp, I heard you were worried about me. Thanks for the positive thoughts. Wish I’d gotten to meet you last weekend.

  7. eddie eddie eddie on

manny, carp, ilb, nyr_fan – this is why i do play by play,,,and not the color…manny’s analysis so crystal clear…

  8. Tiki – what’s the word? How are you? It’s good to see your name popping up around here again. Need that positive energy for this series.

  9. Thanks Eddie – That is really nice of you to say. I remember when we had our falling out during the first Libyan rebellion. Those were different times and different ideas – it’s nice to be back on the same page.

  10. eddie eddie eddie on

yes, i lean hard to the left….i play left wing, shoot left handed, believe in left wing politics, and always left my plate empty after a meal

  11. eddie eddie eddie on

dr. ilb – have you a rubber room we can meet up in to discuss our views and keys to victory?

  12. I remember those days – our faces camoflauged with mud and dirt, loading our make-shift weapons to fight the government. I remember the day that had our falling out – i remember you NOT covering me as I charged a government tank. Exposed I lobbed our homemade grenades at the tank. Without your backup I was exposed, not only physically but emotionally. I remember the bullet ripping through my rib cage. I remember screaming for help and seeing you flee.

Ahhh but those were different times. We believed in something then…..something called revolution. Those days are behind us now………We can move forward and be part of something called Hockey.

  13. eddie eddie eddie on

i wonder what ToMG’s thoughts are tomorrow?…he has been nearly spot on with his predictions for well over 5 months now…

  14. eddie eddie eddie on

hank = monster’s monster…..I really think that he is going to take this team deep this year…call me crazy….

  15. Olga Folkyerself on

You got it all wrong guys….

It’s the team that lets in the least goals. And we’ve got Lundqvist! L for least, L for Lundqvist and L for

    Let’s Go Rangers!

  16. No ilB. They cannot. I am only watching Chicago v. Vancouver to see how amazing the ‘Nucks are again.

  17. Wow. That was a heck of a goal. Nice pass – nice move but wow – what a softite by Luongo!

  18. eddie eddie eddie on

carp – what was the point of the caps’ coach saying the garden crowd is/was quiet?…how does that NOT backfire and awake the giant…dont understand…..and what about crosby?

  19. eddie eddie eddie on

olga – that “npw its on to chicago, and lets win there” crack was sheer genuius :)

  20. Olga, the gramatically correct word is “fewest.” So then you can use the F to start your usual chant.

eddie, could be a big backfire more, and the Caps might be on the verge of panic … but the Rangers will have to win Game 4 or none of that crap matters.

ilb, just got your package. thank you.

Hope Versus will update us on the Skid.

  21. Did you guys see how there was a shrug of defeat there by the ‘Hawks? They looked so sad.

    Fire Vince Vaughn!

  22. Olga Folkyerself on

Carp if I start using the “F” with my Sather chant, you’ll boot me outta here…

  23. I hope the MSG faithful does a Humpty Dumpty chant tomorrow…like Orr said. That would be awesome!

  24. Carp, yes, get Sam’s job, and then you said you’d hire me!!! I wiretapped you saying that!!!!

  25. Tiki! You’re back. You gave the Boneheads a scare. Don’t do that again, ‘k?

Glad you are back. I hope you are feeling good.

  26. I’m doing okay, guys. I was given more encouraging news yesterday. I’m trying not to get stressed. i appreciate everyone’s prayers and wishes. It means a lot to me.

  27. Olga Folkyerself on

    Tied after 1.

This is not a “must win” for Chicago, it’s a “Can’t Lose”

  28. We are with you Tiki! We all argue and have our tiffs around here but it’s really a dose of reality to hear sad news about a fellow ‘head. Great to have you back. Good to have you rooting (lightly please) for our boys.

  29. MD Ranger Fan on

Don’t mean to interrupt the thread, but I am away and do not have easy access to Versus. Can someone provide a link that I can watch the game on the computer (just thinking ahead)? Thanks.

  30. Olga Folkyerself on

Love to. Can I bring all the Folkyerselfs? Except Mother, of course. Carp won’t let Mother on the blog…

  31. eddie eddie eddie on

olga – RFK assasination may be the conspiracy of conspiracies……google RFK assasination and you will be blown away…..

  32. In the immortal words of Dumb and Dumber…”Pick ’em up!”

  33. Rangers in 6 on

the puck was deflected in by Campbell, standing picking his nose 5 feet wide of the net

  34. Thanks Manny.

MD Ranger Fan – Email Blogmama at lbabs@aol.com and she’ll give you account info to watch the game tomorrow. She’ll email you first thing tomorrow morning with the info.

The copies of the bruins-Rangers game 3-0 down comeback to win 5-3 will be in the mail to Blogmama by next Monday.

  35. Of course I am, Orr. But we have proved that we can compete with them. But we’ll never win when the referees cheat us as they did in Game 1, as was noted by Peter “Facts not Fiction” Vecsey. Also, unfortunately, we’re playing without 2 of our 3 best players, Amar’e and Chauncey, so I have to accept certain things if I’m going to remain unstressed and get healthy.

  36. Yea Tiki – if you don’t want to be stressed don’t watch this game. It looks like it’s headed to uglyville. Go enjoy the air

  37. I cannot get that stream to work – eddie give me the play by play.

We could really use Amare back with Anthony having 4 fouls.

  38. ovi won’t watch the Rangers skate tomorrow
    boudreau won’t allow him to
sit on that hard MSG bench

  39. eddie eddie eddie on

talking about ranger’s lack of scoring…bill from massapequa predicting 2-1 ranger game 4 win

  40. eddie eddie eddie on

now they are talking about how the garden is quieter than the old days and that it is a DUMP

  41. eddie eddie eddie on

joe – “if the rangers can put pucks in the net, they can win” manny he belongs in the booth with us

  42. LOL Manny. I think I’ll save my walk for the end of the game. Every one of Rondo’s 12 layups in the game…if the Knicks had just fouled him hard, kept him from getting a shot off, and put him on the line, the Celtics would have 9 less points at least from missed free throws. It’s a shame that _’Antoni has no ability to coach. We’re hanging in this game with no Amar’e and no Billups, if _’Antoni could help us with just a slight ability to coach, we’d be in complete control of the game.

  43. eddie eddie eddie on

1968 was a crazy year in US History….but Mathematics is my gig (undergrad in EE tho)

  44. Haha totally true – I mean….I can’t beleive they are hanging in there. Who would have thought they could without two of the best.

  45. Olga Folkyerself on

    Me too Eddie.

99% of my reading is history and biographies. I find this 150th Year Anniversary of Civil War fascinating…

  46. eddie eddie eddie on

Carp coming on next…after this seafood time out….”the Main Event”…good eats, i guess

  47. eddie eddie eddie on

olga – love bios as well….stopped reading fiction long ago…but love 19th century american writers

  48. eddie eddie eddie on

carp – impressed and suprised by caps physical play…(i think we all are)…shoutout to the blog and the Blockness monster

  49. I swear, even though I expect it, the celtics go over the back on every potential offensive rebound, and we’ve lost countless rebounds in the last 4 minutes, and in the previous game, because of their “ability” to commit over-the-back fouls and get away with it.

  50. eddie eddie eddie on

radio host knows 3 caps…ovie, semen, and backstrom, yet, “we know all the names” :)

  51. Olga Folkyerself on

Manny what is your level of understanding? For overview try Shelby Foote’s “The Civil War: A Narrative”, a massive, three-volume history of the war. I’ve read it 3 times already.

I am reading more and more on specific battles. Antietam is an exciting study. And the battlefield itself is in excellent preservation. I like to read about the battle, then visit the battlefield, then read it again. It’s so much better if you can see just what the writers are talking about.

  52. eddie eddie eddie on

carp mentioning step hit on green which caused 2nd concussion…now lack of garden noise

  53. eddie eddie eddie on

now garden history and noisest games ever…carp saying ranger islanders 79 semis

  54. eddie eddie eddie on

diehards cant afford the garden tix prices…explaining why garden is quieter

  55. nice – any insights eddie?

Olga – Yea i read a lot of Foote stuff when I was a kid. I have been reading some “cultural” understandings of the Civil War (pop stuff like “Confederates in the attic”, etc.) I guess reading about one single battle is where I should head next. I am really interested in reading about “The Wilderness” battle.

  56. Yup – blowing a great performance by Melo. Can Dantoni talk to them about what to do when Melo is doubled!? Come on!

  57. Just got to score more points than your opponent or in the converse (Olga theory) hold the other team to less points than you score.

  58. Olga Folkyerself on

    Frolik finally produces.

5-1 Hawks. Is Luongo hurt? Nothing trivial I hope…

  59. Olga Folkyerself on

Manny- Another good topic is Civil War Prison Camps. I live fairly close to Elmira and have read about and visited the prison site several times. It was so bad, the confederates sent there called it Helmira.

  60. That’s how they blew it………see? You thought they were going to blow it by missing a shot. Instead they got dominated by Garnett for 8 seconds.

  61. Elmira!? My entire family is from there. I have spent lots of time there. That prison site is one of the few civil war sites I have been too…..Where near Elmira?

  62. Rangers in 6 on

the difference is Bolland. a dirty elbow by Kubina put him out with a concussion for a month. look how much different they are with him at center. and he is a vanc and sedin killer. has done so the past 2 years

  63. This is a BRUTAL loss. Honestly!? COME ON! 42 points by Melo and they can’t close. Come on….absolutely brutal.

  64. Yea that was embarrassing. Where is the leadership? No one steps up. No one knows what to do. It’s so sad. NO leadership. None.

So different than NYR because no matter how close the score is the Knicks lose in brutal, embarrassing ways. The Rangers play well the whole game and really, I think, were evenly matched in the long run and could be up 3-0. Knicks deserve to be down 0-2.

  65. Olga Folkyerself on

Manny- it was between Water St and the Chemung River, just about at the intersection of W. Water and Hoffman St.

  66. D’Antoni drew up a play for Jared ‘has no offense’ Jeffries. And with 4 seconds left, we are left without a timeout, and did not even foul until .6 seconds. Thanks D’Antoni for your lack of coaching. We conceded the game. We should be up 2-0 in this series. In spite of the refereeing in Game 1, we should have won, and didn’t. D’Antoni’s desire was for Jeffries to get the ball with 10 seconds remaining. Sad. We’re not even going to win a game this series. We played 2 terrific games on the road, now it’s time for the flop in Games 3 and 4. . The Knicks do have a very bright indeed, just like the Rangers. Hopefully, D’Antoni is gone next year, he has no concept of how to run a team. He is absolutely useless, he has no value as a coach, he was made by Amar’e and Steve Nash, and now Carmelo and Amar’e. Maybe both the Rangers and Knicks will be competing for the title next year, if a NYK coaching change is made. But we’ll probably have to wait until 2012-13 for a new coach.

Time to go take my walk and get some fresh air. Have a good night. LGR tomorrow!

  67. D’antoni was enamored with Doc Rivers (a GREAT coach) idea to go unorthodox with Garnett. He did the same. It did NOT work. Instead we got a turnover and a flop and then a terrible, ridiculous wait 95% of the remaining clock time to foul debacle. What a joke. He was not nearly mad enough at the end of that game. In the words of Rage Against the Machine and countless liberal protesters:

“If you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention.”

  68. eddie eddie eddie on

nhl channel ran the dubi goal as history will be made…i nearly dvr’ed it

  69. My father grew up at 44 Hoffman Street. Went to EFA with Ernie Davis. I bought all my shoes at pinosian’s when I was a kid and I ate at Maretti’s about twice a week. Lovell’s (ice cream place) for the weekend ice cream.

    I love Elmira.

  70. eddie eddie eddie on

ricardo – goo interview…i always liked george mcphee too…lil ball o’ fire

  71. Rangers in 6 on

watch that headhunting punk Torres start running around looking for top players to blindside again with the score lopsided.

  72. Good night, Carp! When I watched that Dubi “History will be made” commercial I had the exact same thought…

    Still hilarious though.

  73. Dubinskly looks *so much* like Luigi from Mario Bros. That commercial is awesome. With the dramatic, emotional music it almost brings tears to my eyes. (almost).

  74. Olga Folkyerself on

Were you old enough to have memories of Eldridge Park? I loved Moretti’s. Haven’t been there in years though.

  75. I watched that video like a baker’s dozen just now. Kind of makes me love Girardi…..feel bad for saying stuff about him. You have to love that he is cutting into the net there and opens up the attempted pass for Luigi that leads to that goal. Love that. Bold move. This “Defensemen getting involved in the rush” thing is really valuable for us all of a sudden. And working!

I am going to have kids just so I can make them watch that video.

  76. Haha yea. Man My dad would go nuts right now Olga. NUTS. When he finds out someone knows about Elmira he gets super talkative and stays up all night talking about how great that place is.

Moretti’s was my favorite place ever. It’s where my Grandfather taught me that young men order a Roy Rogers and not a Shirley Temple.

  77. Well boys and girls I will be on long island taking grandma ( As the kids call her ) to dinner tomorrow . By the time I get back to new Rochelle it will be well into the game which means I ain’t watching it live which means according to the latest superstitious results the good guys will knot the series tomorrow night. Hopefully I hit a lot of traffic. I probably will. Hopefully

  78. Olga Folkyerself on

As I was growing up, I told my mother I wanted to go to Elmira College. She said, “It’s a girls college”, And I said “So?”

I eventually did graduate from Elmira College (it was co-ed by then). Did you follow EC’s Hockey team? I eventually got an authentic EC purple away jersey for 20 bucks.

Went to Dunn field a lot, too.

  79. I did not. BUT – I went to Connecticut College which was also a women’s college for the majority of it’s history. So we both went to schools that were not always co-ed and we both know Elmira (you live there, I spent a lot of my childhood there).

My father met his first wife (a/j/a not my mother) at Elmira College (although he went to Bucknell).

  80. asshats on versus talking about the Blackhawks now having momentum in the series. Are you byfuglien kidding me?

  81. eddie eddie eddie on

olga – Dave Smith, long time ranger trainer played for EC…wore number 16…..and wore the C

  82. Olga Folkyerself on

EC had some really good teams, and classic matchups against RIT, Oswego, Plattsburg. Couldn’t quite manage the Div III Championship though. I knew Dave Smith played there, but not when I was watching…

  83. I know Dave Smith very well. He was the Cup-winning trainer in ’94. Good guy, I think he works with the NHL officials now.

  84. Should be lots of great Boudreau chants at MSG tomorrow. Best one I saw bouncing around Twitter today was “Can you hear us?! clap clap clapclapclap.” The Garden should be insane tomorrow.

  85. Olga Folkyerself on

Sharp again! Pour it on Boys!

7-1. Looks like Vancouver is starting a second bench in the penalty box…

  86. eddie eddie eddie on

one of dave smith’s teammates was #14 willy corneil…another lil spit fire…me and one of my friends used to play 2 on 2 with dave smith and willy….half-court……puck touch the goal post to score…tons of fun

  87. eddie eddie eddie on

olga – lived in horseheads for a bit….went to suny plattsburgh before transferring out west…

  88. eddie eddie eddie on

carp – dave smith was also a hell of a player…played center…great guy…he wont remember me, but we played alot at the Dome before their regualr practices…

  89. Olga Folkyerself on

I played a lot of adult pickup hockey at the Domes. The Triple Nipple. That’s what the pilots called it as they were approaching the airport…

  90. MD Ranger Fan on

Olga – Yes, Maryland – a misplaced New Yorker. Stepped away from the computer but did not want to leave you hanging.

  91. Don’t know if you’ll see this, but glad you’re doing better Tiki.

Thank you again, Carp. This website is awesome.

  92. It really isn’t even a website anymore. I don’t know whether to call it a utopian community or an asylum…

  93. Olga Folkyerself on

MD- Maryland. That’s good. ‘Cause my next guess for MD was Mental Defective, but Mental Defective Ranger Fan sounds redundant… :)

  94. eddie eddie eddie on

…this really is a great place…i wish i was closer…or y’all were out here…i have a funny feeling we would have a hoot over a few pints

  95. That was quick. I feel like there have been a lot of goals in rapid succession this year in the playoffs.

  96. Olga Folkyerself on

Chicago gets to fight another day. No Sweep. Anyone that brought a broom can stick it and sweep the place on the way out…

  97. My girlfriend asked me this and I wasn’t sure what the answer was because I don’t think I’ve ever seen it:

Has there ever been a 6 on 3 play? For example, a team is on a 5 on 3 power play and then pulls their goalie.

I’m sure it’s probably happened but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it. Anyone got a video of this in action?

  98. orr u like the kings too? sweet. if i wasnt a ranger fan, id def be a king fan. ever since gretzky was there i always kinda likd them. they got a great young team too.

  99. duker- god question. im pretty sure its happened. ct might know. or the other blog achaelogists ala trautwig! haha j/k guys.

  100. eddie eddie eddie on

carp – i should be getting that ranger/islander game 3 audio feed CD soon….and as i promised (to where shall I?)………that was the LOUDEST the garden ever was…

  101. honestly bthough duker, 6 guys might just clog up the zone imo. i think if u cant score 5 on 3 , the extra guy isnt really gonna do much. an imagine the team down gets the en goal??

  102. Olga Folkyerself on

Not a fan of those LA jerseys. Looks like runner up in a 3rd grade “Design a Jersey” contest.

  103. That Wendy’s new natural fries commercial is annoying…

So whatever they were serving before WASN’T natural potato?

  104. I actually like the new Geico commercial with Foghorn Leghorn. I can do without most of those ones, but I find that particularly funny. I have a weird sense of humor. Some of it’s really dark and ill-flavored, or ill-humored, should I say, but then a large chunk of it is ridiculously lame and corny. For instance, I yelled at my sister today for being “Passover Aggressive.” I thought it was the funniest thing ever.

    Oh well.

  105. Olga Folkyerself on

Foghorn Leghorn was one of my favorite cartoons growing up. I like him better than Bugs and Daffy. Pete Puma just cracks me up, although he was just a minor character..

  106. How did a team like SJ got a player like Couture?

I remember NHL 08 or 09 had him as a prospect…I would always pick him up since he had one of the highest potential and was cheap!

  107. yeah, that’s why i’m curious if it has ever happened. i feel like you’re probably hurting yourself if you pull your goalie to go 6 on 3, rather than have him in net with a 5 on 3.

  108. It was a play on words, CCCP. “Passive-agressive” behavior is a personality trait, but since it’s Passover, I changed it up.

I thought it was mostly excellent. She didn’t think so.

No offense to any Jewish boneheads. There is no malice behind anything I may say.

  109. Duker, LOL.

I was a HUGE Mario 64 fan. My game file actually got erased by some rapscallions when I had 99 stars. They also erased my Banjo-Kazooie game file with 97 jigsaws.

  110. Olga Folkyerself on

ddebened – no Kidding? That name I remember from watching the EC Soaring Eagles…

  111. Yeah, on Kings.lohudblogs.com this is probably what’s going on….

Stewie: These guys are not ready for prime time. Brown is not a real Captain, he’s far too young, and hasn’t won anything

Ima Fuggmaself: Go Rangers! Big game tomorrow……oh yeah, Fire Lombardi!

Qqqqq Gregory Qqqqq: Rangers lose in 5!!!! Hahaha! Ima suks donkey dong! GO KINGS!

WESTGARTH!! The Voice Of A God: These guys live in LA, yet they’re not dating celebrities, what the fook??

Biki: This is stupid! Clearly the refs have it in for the Kings. It’s a San Jose conspiracy. San Jose has stupid fans, and they’re all criminals

  112. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

the way he emphasizes “puddin” in the commercial cracks my assen up!!

That ryan clowe is one hell of a player

was there a pretty good dust up at the end of nucks hawks??

  113. that Penner is the biggest dog there is. he does not backcheck either, total lazy dog, besides his complete lack of production since he got there. what a waste of 2 first round picks, Teubert and one more this year

  114. Lol. They’re interviewing one of the Sharks on NHL Net, and the reporter says:

“This win makes a statement about this Sharks team. It says something about this team. What do you think it says about this team?”

  115. JimboWoodside on

Yeah…..or a Blues fan……or any of the 1968 expansion teams that have not yet won a cup….
