It seems unfair to schedule teams on Wed who had to play today. playing a team that had an extra day of rest, plus they have to travel to get there. all teams should get at least 3 days between their last game and the first playoff game

Lin, you may have missed it … the NYR chapter of the PHWA voted to boycott voting for the NHL awards this year in protest of the NHL’s lack of action against the Islanders for revoking Botta’s credentials early this season. I think the Long Island and New Jersey chapters joined them, but the other chapters did not.
I should have mentioned that asshat Garth Snow.
And with that hat trick, I’m going to watch Seinfeld and go to bed. Hopefully it’s an episode I’ve never seen.

Been running around all day getting stuff done I should have yesterday, but was too nervous/distracted to get done. It was a good day to get it done too, was almost 90 degrees here. Also helped that I was still flying high from Saturday’s results :)
Just read through all the posts and some really good stuff on the points/OT/shootout rules.
Congrats to the Hawks for backing in, like the Rangers. Says a lot about the Stars that they couldn’t beat the Wild in a must game win.
No games on Holy Thursday, Good Friday or Easter Sunday makes me happy. Love that this Sunday’s game is at 3, allows me to get to church, do breakfast and go grocery shopping before the game, lol.
I’m taking Rangers in 7. Staal and Hank frustrate Ovenchicken to no end. Green runs away from Stepan, who I think will have a big series. Gilroy over Eminger to start, since a puck-mover from the backline is what this team sorely needs against the Caps. I’d also leave Avery out for now. That line-up in Game 82 seemed to work really well, so why change things up.
Get your ear plugs ready for that silly horn at the Verizon Center (or whatever its called now).

It’s been insane since the moment we got here… Everything that has happened has been beyond my wildest dreams.. except the game against thrashers..
From a hockey point of view: Got to see 2 amazing games and 1 bad one. Experienced MSG and got to cheer for my boys. Met Zucca and some of the other players. All very nice! Most important: We got into the playoffs!!
The other side of it: done alot of sightseeing, some shopping but still have a lot to see and enjoy. Best part: meeting Mama, Fozzy and the Noremy family ;) + several new norwegian friends.
I will be back!!! ;) But if Rangers are going to sweden I’ll be there too! ;)

Recalling that 1984(?) debacle when the Devils squeaked into the playoffs after the Rangers won their game in the afternoon but Jersey won against Chicago that night – if I’m remembering it correctly, I was super ticked off at the Islanders who had been beaten by the Devils in the game before the Chicago game, and I felt that the Isles didn’t really play very hard because they wanted to keep the Rangers out of the playoffs. The Isles were already assured of a playoff position.
Well, the Rangers didn’t make it, and my feelings were that the Islanders almost purposefully let the Devils into the playoffs for the first time – but then the Devils went on to eliminate the Isles from playoff contention that year.
Does anyone else remember this scenario?

Question for those who get Center Ice (on the tv, not the net), are the playoff games included in the package? I don’t want to have to rely on VS for the games unless absolutely necessary, ie blacked out on Center Ice.
Mick, I think they are. I usually watch the playoff games on Center Ice when they continue the free preview throughout April. So, It’s safe to assume they air all playoff games.
But, they might not air all of them, since they’re pieces of carcillo.

NHL Center Ice usually has the first few rounds of the playoffs, Mickey – when it gets further along and more teams get eliminated, the games then become exclusive to the NHL national broadcasters – in other words, Versus and NBC in the US, and TSN and CBC in Canada.

You’re welcome, Mickey! If I recall correctly, the first two rounds of the playoffs are on Center Ice, but the Semifinals and Finals are exclusive to the national broadcasters.
And of course, selected games in the first two series will be on Versus and NBC – but not any whole series.
And I just saw on msg.com that the 1st game is on MSG PLUS cause the other team that plays at msg is playing that night also . Even in the playoffs no respect!

Well we don’t have cable…I have an outdoor antenna and Direct TV and I bought their package of both NHL and MLB. Bu that doesn’t keep us from being blacked out. Happens all the time, if the Panthers and or Bolts have games here the same time. Irks the taters out of me, but there;s not much help. I do get Versus now ( hoo boy) but last season they were given the gate by Direct TV due to cost of service. And the same holds true if the Marlins or Rays are in town.
And I’ll watch any hockey game, if I find it well played by interesting teams. I’m a true long time Ranger fan ( late l940’s and on) but I’m also a fan of the game. I will admire and praise ANY team that I believe is well coached, and performs at top drawer level action. I don;t bleed for any team…I was once a fan of the Blackhawks during a memorable year out in Chicago ( ugh were they awful) and when Islanders had their farm team in New Haven (the old departed Nighthawks) and they had Gary Howett and Nystrom, and others that wound up with Islanders and I cheered on those old Islander teams ( except when they played Rangers)...and I keep an open mind. I’ve had many assumptions about things about which I’ve had my mind changed by knowledgeable fans like you folks, and I’m not rock ribbed about beliefs. I can and have been convinced. And I love the often sly humor of this blog, without the snottiness that goes with so many others. Go Rangers.
So tickets go on sale at noon…any tips for getting them outside of StubHub, which is a gigantic rip off? Should I be poised at the terminal hitting F5?!?
Phil – I will be trying to get tix from rangers.com and when/if that fails I will try StubHub – which will be a rip off – but only because Stub Hub is over priced and Rangers tickets themselves will also be over priced. Double Whammy.
There is a Stub Hub right below where I work – I think that if you go to a location you can avoid some of the processing fees.
Center Ice was just free until the end of the regular season and boy oh boy did I get hooked.

Manny- I’ve been getting Center Ice for years. You can find a lot of good games between MSG channels, VS and NHL-N, but it gives the flexibility to watch the game you find the most interesting. I just wish they had more games in HD. They will carry first two playoff rounds, you just need to sort through some baseball games since they share channels on TWC-NY.
