Conference call with the Rangers’ captain (will update and transcribe and paraphrase … you know the drill). Please excuse the typos.
“We did watch the game … a significant portion of the guys. The superstitious guys stayed away. We’re looking for to the opportunity to play Washington. We’re pretty excited.”
“Everyone was pretty cautious, even though it was 3-0 early. … making sure it did end in our favor. Certainly we’re all pretty excited when it did end and the empty-netters started coming. We’re thrilled for the opportunity to play the Caps.”
“I think just going back to the Atlanta game and the range of emotions… the disappointment of that game. … the next day, practice and meetings and dealing with a meeting with our cross-town rivals … knowing it wouldnt be finalized even if we won that game. The guys were excited we won this morning and we were kind of sitting and waiting. For a lot of us it was a long day. Sitting next to Henrik and watching that is something I never want to do again.”
“I think it will do a ton … you look up and down our roster, we have a ton of guys who have never played in the playoffs. The last six, eight, 10 games it’s been like the playoffs. It’s a great experience for the Stepans, McDonaghs and Sauers to experiwnce it at such a young age.”
“I think for the guys who were involved in the shootout last year it kind of (removed some of that bad taste). It was certainly a good ending. We’re excited to be in and playing the Caps.”
“I think with the last two or three days we;ve had, with the down against the Thrashers and picking ourselves up off the mat … we’re pretty happy to be in the mix. Sunday we’ll start thinking about the Caps.”
“I think sometimes it can work in your favpr. I’ve been on teams that have done well in the seaosn series and lost in the playoffs … and vice versa. It’s a whole new season. It’s a different animal. We’re going to have to be ready no matter what happened in the regular season.”
