Prust currently is tied for second in the NHL in shorthanded points (seven), tied for third in shorthanded goals (five) and is tied for fourth in fighting majors (18). He ranks fourth on the Rangers in hits (155).
The Rangers’ MVP, voted on by the New York Rangers media, was awarded to Henrik Lundqvist. This is the fifth consecutive year that Lundqvist has won the award, which marks the most consecutive years an individual has been named Rangers’ MVP.
Lundqvist currently leads the NHL in shutouts (11), and is tied for sixth in the league in wins (35), time on ice (3,886:47), save percentage (.923) and goals against average (2.27). Lundqvist is the only goalie in NHL history to post 30-or-more wins in each of his first six seasons, and the first Rangers goaltender in team history to post six straight 30-win seasons.

Rangers/Hurricanes tied in points but Rangers win first tiebreaker. I’m sure someone has mentioned that, but I haven’t seen it. Obviously, the magic number of 3 is the easiest formula.

It wasn’t a case of not showing up. They were exceptionally nervous tonight, and when they didn’t get a goal early, they tightened up as the game went on. It got worse when ATL scored, then they couldn’t finish, despite numerous open nets. I know they care, you could see it in how jittery they were all night, they just did not have it for some reason that I cannot figure out.
They are gassed, individually and collectively, as well. No one has the legs they had earlier this year, and their style of play contributes to that.
Yet, I know they will win on Saturday, no matter what the Devils try to do. We just need ATL to play tomorrow night like the did tonight. I hate that they need help to get in the playoffs, but that is just how it’s been this year, nothing easy for them, nothing given to them.

manny. you make it sound like that’s a bad team. What’s the key to every good team? good young fast offense..old veteran defense. the rangers have the opposite. we are grooming our team for the future.
Like I always say, in hockey you got to suffer heartbreak before success. I think the young guys will learn from this. It’ll make them hunger to revenge next year. I am sure I posted the same thing here last year, but we brought in so many young guys this year that they had to learn sooner or later.
Carp: get in on this. the rangers definitely have a pattern of winning/losing over the past 3 years – beat good teams, lose to bad teams. how do they fix this? How do they learn how to dominate?!

Joey – totally agree. We are grooming. We will be good in a few years (maybe next!) for a while. I am only saying that an early exit might be the kick in the assen that this team needs to come back playing better and harder next year.

I’m glad to see someone else call Dubinsky out. He and Callahan are nice players, but on a team with even moderate offensive talent, they’d get nowhere near a first line. On the 2010-2011 Rangers, they’re logging Nick Lidstrom minutes. It’s ridiculous but there’s really no one else who can be counted on to do anything. Whatever happened between Gaborik and Tortorella, he’s a shell of his former self and can’t be counted on to contribute. Tortorella keeps rolling out the Fedotenkos and Christiansens of the world and they have practically zero offensive talent. And unfortunately for the Rangers, that’s really the case with the entire lineup.
NYR – I hope that egg hatches and produces a top line scorer!

I don’t really think this is true. Boyle hit the post, Stepan missed, Avery missed, Dubinsky got his stick tied up … the Rangers just didn’t score and they didn’t help Henrik out. Put simpler, switch the goalies and Henrik has another win.
No one wants to hear this but it might be a blessing in disguise if they don’t make the playoffs…we have some great talent on the way (if we can lure them away from their current situations) with kreider, bourque, Thomas and mcllrath….the are some big decisions to make with RFA’s …IF they made the playoffs they might overpay or keep the wrong RFA’s around based on performances getting into the playoffs or if they make a run. This team is built for the future not for now. We aren’t winning the cup this year, let’s face it. Why be a mediocre team and get a mid first round pick or later yet again….continue the build….as my dad and I always said, “there’s always next year”.

Lundqvist did not play well tonight. The Ladd goal was soft, the Shremp goal was another case of him going down prematurely and having a pretty typical shot go flying over his shoulder. The other guy caught a couple of breaks but he made the saves he had to make and didn’t allow any soft goals that crippled his team.

2. Boyle off the post in the third.
3. Dubinsky missed open netter (couldn’t get his stick down)
4. Stepan missed an open netter
Score those 4 and we are moving on! (almost)

It’s strange – IMO the team played much better overall this season than last. But they don’t have anything to show for it. Biron going down was a big hit, but not the sole reason. They looked just plain worn out tonight.
Despite the disappointment, I am convinced that next year will be better, assuming they can find some goal scorers.

I don’t doubt that I’m severely biased (I’ve found this year’s team incredibly likeable), but which RFAs would you be ok with seeing walk? Callahan, Dubinsky, Boyle, Anisimov, Sauer and Gilroy. 5 out of the 6 of those guys would be on a hypothetical list of the 10 guys* on our team I definitely want back next year. Gilroy, fine, his cap number doesn’t match his contributions, but who else could you have been referring to?

I don’t think anyone is blaming anything on Hank….he showed up to play tonight…..pretty much the only guy who did so (maybe besides Torts, Sully and Rammer).
It’s efforts like tonight that make me realize this team simply doesn’t have the heart or “balls” we’ve been convinced they had.
How many atrocious efforts in the past couple of weeks? How many times have they lacked the urgency almost every other team in the NHL has this time of year?
I’m not gonna watch Saturday. It’s flat out too painful to watch a team put forth such a poor effort when you know that’s what it comes down to: Effort.
And the Rangers look like a completely defeated team right now. Every last one of them. They can talk about getting ready for Saturday but they look absolutely defeated.
Not much else to say…other than I wouldn’t mind it if Gaborik gets a terminal groin injury so we don’t have to watch his pansy-ass efforts night after night. Guy has shown absolutely positively NOTHING over the course of the entire season. And THAT’S hard to do.

Cally is a gamebreaker. that does not mean scoring 40 goals. it means doing something good at the right time to get your team firing on all cylinders, whether it be a hard check, a shot block, a good PK effort, an all out hustle takeaway creating a chance, something to get the juices flowing in your team
that is why Cally is the heart and soul of this team, and you don’t see him get benched like the lazy dog wearing #10

Totally Headzo – That is why the losses to the bad teams hurt so much. The timing is awful. Whenever this team has a chance to slam a door or tighten the screws on someone else they play like 20 Gaboriks (not including Hank).

JBytes, I’ve already told my girlfriend that we’ve got plans for Saturday afternoon…and they involve being away from the tv or a radio between noon and 4.
For as much as this team has given us great moments this season, they’ve also made it a point to suck out loud in games that they SHOULD at very least compete in.
The stinker against the Panthers where we luckily got the SO, the piss-poor effort against Ottawa, the abomination against the Islanders, the weak effort against Buffalo…sandwiched with a win against a Philly team that can’t beat anybody lately and a Boston game that involved a once-in-a-decade type of comeback…and now tonight, an absolute disgusting effort against another non-playoff team.
The Rangers aren’t a good team. I know that. We have a weak lineup and a good goalie. But when a team fails to put forth EFFORT you’ve got to wonder just what is wrong.
Watching Cally on crutches standing next to Officer McDonald…I said to myself before the game “How can they not be pumped for this game?” And after those initial few shifts they simply gave up.
Too many soft, lazy players on this team. And not nearly enough heart.

Delaware: definetley agree with you that the RFA decisions are not easy….the bottom list you have are not FA for years from now….I’m not trying to play GM by any means but I think you need to get younger, faster and grow from within. There’s opportunity between the RFA and FA pool next year to do that and I think you need to take the opportunity. Now, what uncle glen does with that, only uncle glen knows!

I’m from Fischler’s erar and I saw all the same people he did. Brad Park was a very good defenseman with a scoring touch. Bobby Orr was a skating demon. you had to see him at his best to understand this.He changed the entire manner of defensive play, and Park did not. To see him in full flight then do a double opposite 360 without losing the puck and leaving defenders in his wake with their mouths open. He had a tremendous shot and could unload with accuracy from any where.
There was really no comparison.One could hunt and seek for one, but Bobby in full flight was like watching an F22 Raptor landing
