It’s Go Time!

Which, for youse guys, means “Go Wings” time. Since ilb asked for a separate thread …

ps, got this from the NHL, just to accentuate how crazy the end of this season actually is:

NEW YORK (April 6, 2011) — With just 38 games remaining over the concluding five days of the 2010-11 regular season, the National Hockey League’s incomparable competitive balance is highlighted by the myriad match-ups still possible when the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin next Wednesday night. Of the 19 clubs still chasing a Stanley Cup dream entering tonight’s action, only the Vancouver Canucks — who have clinched the Presidents’ Trophy for the League’s top regular-season record — is certain of its placing in the standings when the 186-day, 1,230-game season concludes Sunday.

In the Eastern Conference, the Pittsburgh Penguins have just two games remaining on their schedule yet still could finish anywhere between first and fifth. In the West, the Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks could end up anywhere between fourth place — holding home-ice advantage in a first-round playoff series — and 10th, missing the post-season and holding a top-15 pick in the Entry Draft this June.

GR – games remaining

About Author

  1. sheesh Carp
    you freaked me out!!!

thought our game is on thursday
    then thought
    maybe today is thursday
then thought i got game day wrong

    ok now

  2. Come on, Wings! Help your Original Six brothers out! Let’s make it “An Original Six Matchup” in the finals.

  3. Rhode Island Ranger on

Wow, horrifyingly bad “soulful” version of the national anthem at Carolina tonight! Hope that stink gets on the Canes tonight. LGR.

  4. I watched the first part of the first period, the Wings in their best lineup..still scoreless in an tight game and the biggest chance by ABdelkader …still 0-0….

Have an eye on Mike Modano as he was one of my favourite players….

  5. Hawks need one win to eliminate the Flames tonight!

If they lose, they’re in deep carcillo. Blues have been pretty tough lately. I don’t envy being a Hawks fan right now. They have the toughest schedule remaining, and the team one point behind them has the easiest.

  6. Mike Modano must have scored on this …he needs to put it upstairs but didnt so its 0-0 after the first one….

felt asleep during the Barcelona game and woke up right at the start of the game…tough day at work..I usually never fella asleep during a 5-1 Barcelona game :)

  7. JimboWoodside on

Rooting like crazy for the Wings tonight – classy team, fielding their best players for this game tonight when it might be said that they didn’t need to do that.

    Let’s go Wings!

  8. I missed out completly on the Boston Game…Beeing six hours up on the Eastern time zone makes it very tough over here…..

Can´t wait that they announce the NHL PREMIERE GAMES with the Rangers in Europe…I hope that they dont play in Russia which is little bit difficult traveling but why not somewhere over here in Germany as i assume they will play the games at the Globen of Stockholm cause of Hank ….:)

  9. Noah- Cole has been allowed to get through his wing a little too often to my liking…And Ward is on his game. Let’s see how the second period goes.

  10. I watched the Barcelona game and fell asleep too, Matthias.

Even though the period ended scoreless, the Red Wings just look so much better than everyone else they play, even in losing. They continue to amaze me.

  11. Latona…Barcelona is definitely the best all around the world in football…those two guys Xavi and Iniesta are Magican and not talking about Leo Messi…

Can you imagine I ve been a number of times at the Camp Nou with a capacity of 100 000 in former times with standing places 120 000…Today they had an attendance of 86 000 !!!!

  12. I never thought that Modano would continue his carreer playing with another team than Dallas :)

  13. Tony, did you make that video?

Regardless, it gave me the chills.

    ****. Canes just scored.

  14. You guys taking care of preceedings in the NHL as I fell asleep again ..almost probably…:)
better watch the Rangers tomorrow at 1 am…

  15. Doesn´t looke like that the Wings score a goal tonight..they miss out on best chances….

  16. Who were the guys saying Cam Ward is overrated? He looks rather good right now.

  17. JimboWoodside on

“We’re not gonna get any breaks. We’re gonna have to win our own games.”

Boy, you said it all, Tony – we seem to have no luck at all with ANY of these out-of-town games.

Detroit is a great comeback team, but as of this moment, they don’t look too motivated.

  18. Canes keep coming. Howard is good but he needs some offensive help if he wants to help us out.

  19. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

    refresh refresh refresh

  20. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

Correct me if I am wrong here, but if the canes only get one pt tonight (otl or so loss), then our magic number goes to 2??

Prust better win the mcdonald award tomorrow night!!!

from last thread, you guys need to remember Chara would have come here if it wasn’t for jagr!!

  21. JimboWoodside on

SCREWIT!!! Off this game goes – I’ve had it with scoreboard watching. Canes 2-0

Rangers are going to have to win out the canes will not lose a game!

  23. Skinner is really good. I wish he was ours too. I still love our team though.

  24. Is anyone really surprised that it’s gonna be so hard on the Rangers?

Can’t even get help from the Red Wings, dang-nammit

Man alive, if the Rangers throw up a stinker tomorrow it’s gonna get really ugly around here.

  25. Noah-rury-allahan, 28 on

Lord help us if we HAVE to win in regulation/OT against the Devils Saturday afternoon.

  26. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

    back to work, later assens!!

  27. wings look like they are in cruise mode. i cant believe the canes, sabs and habs are winning every single game!!

  28. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

    was the tourist any good???

  29. we have to beat atlanta. there will be no excuse if we dont. honestly, these next 2 should be won in reg not needing an ot. all we need is gabby to score a few. if the guy can put a few in and help raise his confidence, its a double win

  30. Olga Folkyerself on

Did I miss a FIRE SATHER discussion? You want my thoughts on that?

Let’s Go Black Hawks!!! They are NOT down 1-0 to St Louis. They are just 2 goals from 2 points…

  31. Did anyone else just hear Tracey’s discussion about the traffic cop. He made Joe look good there. And Chico.

  32. Olga Folkyerself on

@Graby, apparently anything between 2 of those little characters over the 2 on your keyboard@

  33. Gee, thanks Detroit. Think I’ll turn to something depressing, like the Mets in Philly or the Civil War on PBS.

  34. Then again, did we think this was gonna be easy? Nothing has come easy for this team this season and yet, they have been resilient and strong willed and refuse to break. I cannot see them doing it at this point in the season, despite the bruised and weary bodies and minds, the loss of their heart and soul (great description earlier today, Carp). I truly do believe in this team and in what they have and are yet to accomplish this spring.

  35. On another very depressing note, 8,000 Union soldiers died in just 8 minutes on June 3, 1864 in Cold Harbor, Virginia. Do that math and that’s 16 per second. Staggering numbers.

  36. So very true, Olga. And yet, without his relentless dogged pursuit of Lee, the War may have gone in indefinitely.

  37. Rangers WILL beat Atlanta and New Jersey to finish the season and make the playoffs.

They WILL beat the lowly Thrashers…

And they WILL end the regular season stomping all over Uncle Daddy and the Debbies…because their time is OVER. And it’s been OVER for a long time.

Hank will NOT let us down these next two games.

We’re going to win and get in. Simple as that.

    Believe it. It WILL happen.

Nobody is giving the Rangers any help…

So they will just have to do it themselves.

  38. Olga Folkyerself on

Cold Harbor is where Grant learned not to order frontal attacks on entrenched positions.

  39. after monday night i thought i would enjoy these days between games…no such luck

  40. One would think they would have figured that one after Picketts’ Charge at Gettysberg, though that wasn’t an entrenched position. I can never understand how a full frontal assault would ever be a smart thing in warfare.

  41. Olga Folkyerself on

Or Fredricksburg. But some Generals continued to use old tactics against improved weapons. That madness continued right through WW!.

  42. CapeBretonRangerFan on

The Redwings had not lost in regulation to an Eastern Conference team for the past 12 games…until tonight.

  43. JimboWoodside on

“The Redwings had not lost in regulation to an Eastern Conference team for the past 12 games…until tonight.

Seems like the Wings mailed this one in tonight…..but those Canes just will not give in!

  44. JimboWoodside on

I thought that once the Hawks went ahead that they had this game won…..I guess not.

  45. JimboWoodside on

Yeah, Olga – I saw that – thanks…..yeah, I guess it’s possible, but remote at this point.

  46. JimboWoodside on

It is *so* enervating that the Rangers have to win out in order to make the playoffs….

  47. Olga Folkyerself on

It’s not just mathematical Jimbo, it takes differential calculus for Calgary to get in.

  48. And I imagined wrong. Wow, 3-0 loss. In my wildest dreams, I couldn’t have imagined the Wings would have been shut out against the lowly Hurricanes. Sheesh.

  49. JimboWoodside on

The Wings looked lowly tonight, Tiki – the Canes are looking like world beaters lately.

  50. Olga Folkyerself on

Detroit probably played half the game saying “Don’t Get Hurt. Don’t Get Hurt.” Especially after Zetterberg went out.

  51. Olga Folkyerself on

And I hope they continue to think that way, since Chicago has to play them twice.

  52. JimboWoodside on

It’s funny, Olga – I thought that the Wings were doing the right thing, playing Howard and Datsyuk and all their regulars tonight…but they played like crap!

  53. JimboWoodside on

I sure wish we had those Icelander and Buffalo games to play over again – but that’s not how it works….. :-(

  54. Every time I think her being married to an annoying guy with the mouth of a horse, it blows my mind.

Corey Perry is having a pretty insane year. The Ducks could be the surprise team of the playoffs. They don’t even have Hiller.

  55. JimboWoodside on

    Ha! Jessiman!

Who is she married to? I probably won’t recognize his name though, since I’m not “tuned in” to pop culture stuff..

  56. How about that Corey Perrey kid from the Ducks…what a great hockey player! Scored his 50th goal today with a hat trick… why can’t we have a player like him? EVER!

  57. What’s even more impressive about a guy like Perry is his PIM numbers.

    80 48 47 95 8 13 4 10 104

Not to mention, his pal Getzlaf has been injured for long stretches of the season…

    Perry = MONSTER.

Selanne is also having a legendary year. That guy is unbelievable…what a player…

Orr, I agree that the Ducks are a team to watch in West…

Olga, we will always remember Sather’s terrible mistakes. But, we must move on and learn from them. The future looks bright for the NYR…(No, I’m not Dr. Phil).

  58. >>…Corey Perry…why can’t we have a player like him? EVER!

Well, we do have a Threat To Score. No other team can say that.

  59. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

thanks for the movie advice, rented it on the way home!!

canes win=the hits just keep on coming!! LGR!!!!

So I have to work until 1AM (new york time) tomorrow night, so it will be a late dvr night and the suspense will be killing me!!

  60. JimboWoodside on

Thanks, Orr – I’ll have to “Google” him to see what he’s known for…..

  61. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

we had a guy like that once…..

  62. 76 goals in a rookie season! I think that record is going to be safe for a long time!

It is amazing to play like he does at 40 years old…

  63. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

that and the hopefully no suspense involved no brainer of prust winning the mcdonald award!!

  64. Just a new handle for a fresh start.

    I always admired Teemu.

After monday’s win, wicky, I cant see how the Rangers lose tomorrow. I dont think losing tomorrow is an option to this team. JMO.

  65. Olga Folkyerself on

NYR_FAN it’s not Sather’s mistakes. Sather IS the mistake. Get rid of him, then we can move onward and upward.

We here are all excited again about just barely making the playoffs, and IF we win a round in the playoffs it will be as far as we have gotten since Sather took over 11 years ago. We have become complacent with mediocrity.

  66. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

I think atl beats the canes friday

  67. I highly suspect Sather is involved now in personnel decisions like he once was as far as drafting and recalls from Hartford. His job is too make trades when the club needs them and he’s made good ones…He trusts Torts and Gordie Clark. That is good enough for me right now…

If he signs Brad Richards in the summer, then obviously he hasn’t learned from his mistakes…

Look, I like this team and the direction of the organization. I disagree with how they are handling Mats Zuccarello, but other than that, I am content as a Ranger fan :)

  68. Olga Folkyerself on

I just cannot understand how someone, anyone with Sather’s record in NY keeps his job. I’ve been a Rangers fan since about 1974 and this is the worst stretch by far that I have seen. I am not content. It’s the worst it has ever been, for me personally…

  69. Olga Folkyerself on

But saying “At least He’s better than Ferguson” isn’t exactly a testimonial to his ability, is it?

  70. According to Zipay at Newsday

    Projected lines: For tomorrow night
