Sixth place isn’t looking so great after the Habs beat Tampa Bay in a shootout last night. The Rangers need to win tonight to keep that hope alive. But the Rangers got some help from some pursuers when the Devils and Air Canada Leaves went down.
Tonight’s scoreboard watching:
Caps-Devils.
Islanders-Carolina Whalers.

Good game day morning, boneheads!
First!.. on a game day! And it’s Friday! Triple Victory! Off to work and buyin’ some lottery tix.
You all have a good day. Later.
ilb, damn! Now, I’m worried and not buyin’ those Mega tickets… oh, well it’s still Friday and a game day. I’ll take the win tonight and the two points and call my day victorious.
Sorry, bud.
Did you get the tickets to take you daughter to the game?
Good game day morning everyone. Let me throw in TGIF as well. We have to beat Gomer & Co. tonight.
LGR
Tonight = 2 points
Buenos Dias Cabezas! Probably have to miss part of the game tonight because my job is making me deliver something to Superior Court in CAMDEN, New Jersey (from Manhattan). This day is on its way to seriously sucking.
LGR!
Just take care of your own games and don’t worry about who is behind us.
Cannnot lose to the Habs. (again). I went to University in Montreal. (1991-1995). Went to every ranger game in the old forum minus the first one where they beat them in OT (Nemchinov baby). the remaining seven games were one excruciating experience after another including the two losses in 1994, the final one 4-3 in OT (heals in net) after blowing a 3-1 third period lead. As i walked out of the forum that night with my leetch jersey on there was this french canadian guy who looked at my glum face and misery and said “dont worry kid, the better team lost tonight. I think this is the year you win the cup.” Later that week, my friends and i drove up to the colisee in quebec for a 5-2 win over les nordiques and then i took the train to boston for a 3-0 whitewash of the b’s. heals in net again for that one. (needless to say i didnt attend many classes that week at school). Long story short, i have always had a certain case of “we are going to lose” to montreal. It stems even from the great teams of the early 1990s. When i finally saw them win in montreal it was in dec. 2001 before the team tanked and the fleury lindros york line was in full effect. 3-1 at the bell centre. Why am i saying this? Because if they lose yet again to this team in the heat of this playoff race when montreal stinks in back to backs and is an average road team anyway i wont be able to take it. Win one going away. Like 5-1. cally, boyle, anisimov, gaborik and stepan. Lunqvist with 25 saves…...c’mon boys!
Tonight’s one of those special team games the Rangers like to get their hiney’s kicked in. Stay out of the box and work the power play effectively against a team that they haven’t been able to do either against so far.
FIRED UP TO EXTEND THE “STREAK”.... LOVED watching the Debbies fall last night. Everyone is supporting our run by losing, now we need to show we arent the same animal as last year and get aggressive with the smell of blood in the water.
I want to see Prust LOCK DOWN the McDonald Xtra Effort award…TONIGHT.
The Habs will play without two key centers, Plekanec and Halpern. Gil is questionable too. Back-to-back for them after they went into SO with Tampa. Got to take advantage and come out hard. They can’t give them too many PPs and odd-man rushes, that’s what they thrive on. I expect the Rangers to pay with jam, cycle and throw everything at the net. Wear them down. Let’s get two points, boys!
What about good ole P.K. Slewfoot?
PK Slewfoot is a joke. He slashes Lecav 2x on the unprotected wrist and Vinny slashes him back across the thigh. Slewfoot goes down like he was shot and gets Vinny a gamer. PK Scumbag.
Yup – He is such a piece. If he slewfoots someone tonight I hope some Ranger takes him out.
Refresh? Where is everybody? Too hungover?
Morning ‘heads!!
Happy Friday!
We need to score tonight!!
You don’t score until you score!
LGR !
Going to MSG tonight, I AM A Ranger….Come on, we need two regulation points tonight if we want to look up ahead instead of what’s behind…
After posting an outstanding 9-1-1 record in the home games I attended over the last two seasons, I am riding an 0-3 streak right now. I used to think I was their best good luck charm and they should give me a really good free seat. Now I am starting to feel like a jinx.
Come on Blueshirts, big win tonight. Time to run it up so bad that they got to pull their tender.
Manny, be careful in Camden! It’s not the most friendly town!!
Thanks NYR. I wish one of you ‘heads lived close in case I get shot. I might need an emergency contact!
Big game tonight as it could be the begining of the playoff solidification process. A nice 10 out of 11 streak to enter April’s spring postseason would be most lovely indeed.
A Rangers win tonight coupled with a Canes loss would be huge. The opposite would be disastrous.
Since the Rangers play the Canadiens, who in recent history have just had our number, and the Canes play the defensively hapless Islanders, I’m going to say the latter is much more of a possibility than the former.
I am a ranger. Beat the Habs, beat the habs…. Moreover, someone knock that smarmy little smirk off of blow-mez’s ugly mug.
The Rangers have not been great on Friday nights this season (I think). I hope their hangovers are cured by 7 tonight.
If that piece o’ Carcillo Subban plays his usual game (taking cheap shots and having the refs look the other way)...then I certainly hope someone on the Rangers, and I mean ANYONE, takes him out to send the message that the Rangers are not gonna be pushed around. Least of all by a punk like him.
That being said, tonight is HUGE.
If we score more goals than Montreal, believe it or not, we win the hockey game. :-)
“PK Slewfoot is a joke. He slashes Lecav 2x on the unprotected wrist and Vinny slashes him back across the thigh. Slewfoot goes down like he was shot and gets Vinny a gamer. PK Scumbag.”
Before all of that he kneed Lecavalier behind the knee. Honestly, I think he’s the biggest piece of Carcillo in the league, and that includes Carcillo.
It does not, however, include Gillies, since I don’t include him as “in the league.”
Ohhhhh, what a night. At least I was wearin’ the green.
Uh-Oh, It was my liver…
I just hope they don’t take a bad reactionary penalty like Lecavalier took last night or Dubinsky took the last time they played against them. Their PP is too good for that.
ilb, thanks for asking. I came close to winning this last contest but lost in a shoot out (tiebreaker). So no tix for us. Currently, I’m in no position to buy tickets so I experienced a brief thrill when I nailed the score and GWG. The donor has my thanks for his generosity and for providing a chance to share the joys and pains of bleeding blue. Hopefully the future holds more joy than pain.
We are solidly in control of our own future here. We got some help over the past couple of days with loses by the Canes et. al. It would be so sweet to put a winning streak together so we don’t have to sweat the last week of the season. I hope the team is licking their chops at the opportunity to secure their present position in the standings. I’d also like to see Slewfoot take a big hit tonight.
John – I hear you regarding ranger futility at the old forum..I made most ranger – Montreal games at the old forum on Atwater St. From 77-81 season. I used to get those standing room only tix. The old forum was quite vertical in it’s seating structure…. The roar of the crowd as Guy LaFleur would begin his rush with the puck was deafening. I saw the rangers win one game there… a 7-3 or 7-2 blowout….
Eddie, what about Ranger futility at MSG this year?
the boys have to come out on fire tonight!!! LGR!!
P.K. Subban has never been suspended by the league. Therefore, by the thinking of some on RR, he must be clean. Let’s leave the guy alone. The NHL needs more African Americans.
forget p.k scum, we just have to play our game or otherwise he will do what we want avery to do…
Prust shoots and scores..
Doodie – I know of what you speak… The turnaround has begun, hopefully…
Tiki, first, Suban isn’t American. Second, suspension isn’t the only metric of whether someone is a clean or dirty player. I can think of plenty of non-suspended players who are dirty, and plenty of generally clean players who have been suspended.
As much as I’d like Prust to win the Steven McDonald award, he doesn’t need it to validate his performance. That said…he should win it.
My brutha subban, he be cool.
Mama – I hope you have a very successful day of work. TTYL! :)
Taking my daughter to the game tonight as well as Nick and Steps for dinner, a win would be the icing on the cake!!
That’s really interesting. I knew Subban is Canadien (or at least I think he is), but he is black? What do you call a black person from Canada? Seriously. Is he African Canadien? Or just African? Regardless, I believe it’d be good for the game if more black athletes played hockey. I agree with your “Second”
Tiki
the NHL does need some African-Americans. There are only 6 in the NHL, the rest of the black players are Canadian or Swedish in Oduya’s case.
Subban is not African-American btw…
Whether he is African-Canadian is dependent on his own view of whether he would like to classify himself as such. Either way, he is black.
As for diversity in the game, yes, the more the merrier, and it shouldn’t just be focused on black, but more Latin American and Asian as well.
It kinda bugs me that Willy O’Ree gets so much attention but nobody ever mentions Larry Kwong.
Per Zip’s Blog, it looks like Avery and Gilroy are the odd men out tonight.
http://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/rangers/blue-notes-1.811976/avery-gilroy-appear-to-be-odd-men-out-tonight-1.2767977
I just looked it up, Canadians that are black are called “black Canadians.” Who’da thunk it :)
While looking it up, apparently “Canadian” is or was used as a racist term by Southern people on blacks. They’d call blacks from the Northeast “Canadian.” Not sure why, but whatever.
And PK Subban’s name is Pernell Karl! I really like that name! I like the guy!
Tiki, why would it be good for the game if more blacks played hockey? Would it be a good thing for more Chinese, Polish, Italian, Arabic or any other ethnic or racial group to play? Everybody’s invited to the party, nobody’s excluded. What improves the game are good people who are good players.

What a cute kid! Hasta Luego!
Heave, my thoughts exactly.
Heave – Yes. The more diversity the sport has, the more fans the sport will have. There’s a reason why 1 billion people vote Yao Ming into the All Star Game every year. National Pride.
By the way, no need to pick on me for using “black”, as the other ethnicities were implied. Blacks are one of the many underrepresented ethnicities in hockey. And it was a discussion about P.K. Subban, thus the use of “black.”
Subban is a good hockey player. But he is dirty. And he will continue until someone breaks his nose. In fact, if it wasn’t for the instigator rule, he’d already have his nose broken a few times.
ilb – Has Subban been suspended?
On that note, adios…
He hasn’t been in the league long enough to be suspended. But he does try to hurt people. And if continues, he will be suspended.
I think they win tonight. I am feeling more confident than any other Rangers-Habs game this season. Habs are tired, injured, on the road playing the second night of a back to back game. They and really depleted on the blueline. Price is ready for one of those games where he blows up. This could be a blowout of the 7-1 proportion. Of course it could be yet another excruciating loss to the Canadiens who have our number of late. Go get them boys! LGR!!!!!!!!!!! Get fired up boneheads!
refresh, refresh, refresh !!!
or if you prefer:
F5, F5, F5 !!!
Hey guys maybe we should avoid race oriented subjects. Let’s just assume no one on this blog is a piece of carcillo racist and go back to getting along and loving each others presence on the interweb!!!!
Tony – F5 and refresh are luxuries my iPhone do not possess.
Manfried – agree !
I didn’t know we were putting limitations on the “no suspension” topic. Let’s find a better way to quantify how dirty a player is instead of suspensions, shall we…
I can really feel us vibing Tony. Bro’s for life.
I don’t think there was anything racial, or inappropriate, within that discussion.
You know dirty player when you see him play. How’s that, Tiki?
This is my final wicky! At least I hope it is… Manfried – In all seriousness, I didnt assume that about anyone. Im very sensitive about the criticism of blacks, especially in a sport in which there are very few.
What a cute kid! Hasta Luego!
***
Tiki, do you have a man-crush on PK Slewfoot? Not that there’s anything wrong with that!
I was just trying to prexempt whatever was about to follow. Just scared ilb. So scared. I just taught my iPhone to type your name.
I think we all are Tiki. That’s why it ends up in some argumentative thing every time. I’m sure any racism or racist would be regulated by Carp.
What’s the outlook out there, Tony? Dry heat?
Interesting note about MDZ. I can understand why he is being sat on this one stat alone. His value to us is supposed to be as a PP QB, right? Even though he has only played in 47 games this season, he is second on the team in PP TOI, and still first in PP TOI/G. McCabe is now 2nd only 1 second behind, basically being used as they would use MDZ. I’ll say this though, I wish MDZ was up with the big club to learn from McCabe. Anyone else notice how good the PP has been since McCabe has been with the team? Even when it doesn’t score, it still looks good.
Manfried, I’ll put my phone on vibrate also – LOL
Totally great point doodie i hope, and am sure, wherever Del Zotto is he is watching film. McCabe makes such a huge difference.
It actually started to look better before he arrived, Doodie. Because they stopped being stationary. But it clearly improved after McCabe’s arrival. It became even easier for them to move down low and cross in front of the net since the opposing team has to respect his shot and can not collapse down low with ease anymore. He also knows how to move along the blueline to get the shot through, that’s what he could’ve taught MDZ.
Tony you’re starting to remind me of the film “Shortbus.”
Doodie Machetto
if this continues, i would push for McCabe to be Del Zotto’s partner next year. Only a 1 year deal but I think he just brings so much to the table on the PP and can help Del Zotto in the process…
Tiki, don’t be so sensitive. First, you made a comment and my response was directed at your pov not at you personally. Second, you stated “Regardless, I believe it’d be good for the game if more black athletes played hockey.” so other ethic groups were in no way implied.
While I agree diversity as a general principle is a good thing, should Yao be voted in as an All Star just because he’s part of a group that’s larger than others? What if there are other players from smaller groups that’s are better and more deserving? When we start considering each other as human beings first and foremost and then judging each other by our words and deeds this world will be vastly improved.
ilb, it was 92 yesterday & in the hi 80’s today.
Best time of the year.
Now I feel like Mama and wicky with all these wickys/laurels!! I wasn’t being disrespectful, ilb. I simply disagree. And a lot of talk on RR is about dirty players. I think there ought to be a quantifiable way to determine that instead of suspensions.
Perhaps, number of opponents’ games missed due to injury caused by said player divided by the number of seasons said player has played in the NHL. Just an idea…
Heave – Yes, I did imply it. Blacks were the subject of the conv. so I used Blacks as the ethnic group.
Your second part, I agree with on the whole. However, my point of Yao Ming was this: The more diversity you have in a sport, the more fans of a sport there will be.
For the hat trick….and my idea wouldn’t be quanitifiable because some players dont get injured from dirty hits and other players get injured from innocuous hits.
Sub ban – short term suspension.(for “slewfoothing” for example) To be Subban(ed) – just 1 game suspension.
Oleo, I agree with you about McCabe and would like to see him come back at a discount for a year. He brings a lot to the table in terms of leadership and character too…
I actually wish Del Zotto was with the team now too . McCabe could be helping Del Z now. I still think MDZ is a better option than Eminger and/or Gilroy.
NYR_FAN
Its just a shame that Gilroy couldn’t develop an offensive game in his 2 years here. He’s a very fluid skater and has the tools but just couldn’t put it together as a Ranger. I think he has a good shot catching on with a small-market team but NY isn’t the place for him to develop on the job…
Subban = thug
Yep, unless NYR decide to trade Girardi, I think Gilroy gets moved in June. Gillie needs to play and it’s going to be hard to develop his game here with Staal, McDonagh, MDZ, and Sauer all ahead of him on the depth chart. Plus we have McIlrath and Kundratek knocking on the door…
I could see him going to the Islanders or the Devils…but I would not like that!
In one sense, hockey might actually be the most diverse sport. That is, if you quantify it by nationality or ethinicity, rather than by straight skin color. There is US, Canada (Quebec and British), Eastern Europe, some Western Europe, Russia / former Soviet states.
Basketball and football are almost entirely US (black and white). Baseball is US (white) and Latin American, with a little Asian in the mix, and an ever-decreasing black population.
The Rangers alone have people from US, Canada, Norway, Slovakia, Czech, Sweden, Russia, and Poland. All white-skinned, but all very diverse ethnically.
ATTENTION SEAN AVERY FANS!

Tiki, maybe you intended to imply more but your comment is a statement. When you post consider how it will be understood by the reader and not so much by your intent.
I’m also not sure how much more popular I would want hockey to be. What other sport today still has the concept of ‘honor’ associated with it? What other sport shares its championship and the championship trophy with its players and local communities as hockey does? Hockey has held on to its family and community values much more than any other sport. There’s also a greater respect for players from the past. Hockey is still a team sport in every sense of the word, where players share their success with teammates. I fear all this would be eroded with more popularity, money etc. I’m happy being loyal to a ‘niche’ sport.
SCX, that’s a fair point. Well said. However, it would be nice to see some more racial diversity from within the US and Canada. There is significantly less racial diversity in the European countries you listed, although Johnny Oduya is a shining example of diversity from them.
I can’t really criticize the absence of hockey players who are actually from Latin American countries since the game isn’t really played much there, but I would hope to see more of their US born descendants. I would especially like to see more Asians in the game, since there are actually Asian teams. Tikkanen briefly was a player/coach for one.
Have you guys seen this absurd Debbies advertisement called “the real jersey fist pump.” what idiots.
Subban is a punk, a dirty player and he needs a big comeuppance. His hits are borderline intent to injure on several occasions.
I just hope the NHL doesn’t turn what I call the “Obama Blind Eye” to his antics because of the color of his skin. The kid is a dirty player. And the players and fans around the league know it.
The punk needs a beat down…plain and simple.
And if that beat down means an elbow to the head that knocks him out for a few weeks or months, so be it. He deserves it.
Karma’s coming for him.
I also like the Native-Canadian (First Nations, Metis, and Inuit) representation of some players, especially those who are becoming star players such as Carey Price and Rene Bourque, as well as solid NHL players like Jordan Tootoo and Aaron Asham.
Other former notable players are Jonathan Cheechoo and Sheldon Souray.
CJP, so much ignorance in your post between the racism and the hope for injury that it makes me sick. Be proud of yourself for being such an ass hat.
And I hope with your terrible wishes that Karma comes for you instead.
Tiki – I think your logic might be flawed on a lot of levels… for the purpose of sparing the Blog too many responses, I’ll just focus on one.
Pk Subban is both very talented and dirty. This statement and its underlying sentiments would likely be reflected by the majority of fans and players in the NHL.
Lets Go Rangers – 4-3 Rangers w/ Prust finding the back of the net again.
Nice – “Ive been there before, no big deal” Hat Trick Doodie
;-)
Wait… isn’t wishing ill on someone for wishing ill on someone ill-advised?
I might score an Ovech-Trick!
I think all this discussion regarding dirty players underscores what a terrible job is done by the the NHL referees. When you consider the extreme bias applied to Avery, why doesn’t the league ‘target’ other players? Not to say other players should be treated like Avery, but the same rules need to be applied to all players consistently. If the officiating was better there would be less dirty play. Also, diving needs to be called much more often. I’d rather see diving called more often than not so players would be afraid to appear like they’re embellishing.
We have diversity here, too. The informed and the ignorant are all welcome.
Thanks Carp!
Let’s go Isles! Uhhhhhhhhh….
I’m with CJP for the most part here. Although I don’t like to see players targeted for injury, I do think he should get hit hard & hit often, cleanly, if he continues to play the way he does. And that goes for thugs of all races. Maybe he’ll get the message after that. And the last thing the league needs is another “anointed” player like Crosby. The great thing about pro sports is that it truly reflects the best possible players for the job, without regard to race, religion, political class etc. If only life was like that in general. Let’s leave the racial quota’s & discrimination to the whiney liberals!
Carcillo Carp! I suppose if we have to ask, we arent on the informed side of the equation….
;-)
well if the Rangers want Brad Richards they need to do more than buyout Chris Drury. Im hoping he retires but if he doesn’t the best scenario would be the Rangers informing him he is not in their future plans and either give them a list of teams he will waive his NTC or he will be bought out. Also curious to see where Boogaard fits in next season as Avery-Boyle-Prust is almost a lock for the 4th line…
Heave – Love the post.
dudley – You’re just making stuff up. My logic in no way compares to that samaritan/jail reference. Im not talking about human beings. Im talkiing about dirty/clean player. Why the need to quantify? Simply because I had it thrown in my face that Chara had never been suspended as the reason why he’s not dirty. I bet there’s plenty of former Maple Leafs and current and former Canadiens, and many other NHLers that feel Chara is both talented and dirty. Ill leave it at that. I dont want to be the center of attention. I had a nice discussion with all of you. Thanks.
I for one would like to see moremore chinese-samoan-cuban-french-american players…
Heave Ho’s 12:50 comment I was referring to. Thanks.
headzo – do you really believe High School sports are dominated by the best possible players? I wouldnt, especially in regards to team sports…..I know one parent – of a sucky softball playing daughter that played every game – because he bought and remodeled a new softball field…..
the crap Subban is pulling has to be dealt with… I really wish Vinny would have just dropped the gloves and kicked his ass instead of trading tree chops and getting caught for it.
When Subban went down and decided he was a soccer player instead of an NHL hockey player I wanted to throw something at my TV… I can’t stand that guy! It’s one thing to play with a chip on your shoulder… but it’s quite another to play your first full season in the league and run around like the ADD kid on the playground.
He plays dirty and cries foul…. it’s the worst… he makes Avery look saintly at times.
Here’s to hoping the Rangers jump out to a 2 or 3 goal lead tonight and Duby can get a knuckle or two on the guy this time??
LGR
@@
Lol, Carp..
Oleo – you really think Avery is on this team next year? Not if Torts is still the coach.
McEddie – I said pro sports in my post. I had to exclude other level sports for reasons just as you mention.
Tiki – I think you ARE talking about Human beings. Dirty or clean, every player is in fact a human… except maybe Prust, he might be an alien of the awesome variety. I think the analogy works (and I’ve pasted your statements that led me here below).
Chara doesnt have a history of being “dirty” in the sense that a PK S. or Avery “enjoys”. He has a history of being known to play hard and occasionally slip over the line and I think most teams look for that passion and intensity.
PK Slewfoot, at least what I have seen, tends to look like a dirtbag constantly poking after the whistle, jabbing, and hitting with malicious intent (as defined as late, ill placed, or overly aggressive). Subjectively speaking, he’s a great villain for the NHL and I’m sure the Habs fans love him.
Tiki March 18th, 2011 at 12:02 pm
I didn’t know we were putting limitations on the “no suspension” topic. Let’s find a better way to quantify how dirty a player is instead of suspensions, shall we…
Tiki March 18th, 2011 at 11:14 am
P.K. Subban has never been suspended by the league. Therefore, by the thinking of some on RR, he must be clean. Let’s leave the guy alone. The NHL needs more African Americans.
Umm….
African Americans? Don’t you mean “Afro” Americans? That’s what Kramer said on Letterman :P
Good afternoon all! Can we please go back to the post by FIRST!.....I can’t get that whole link without becoming a “member” of the site…..more info please!
and LGR!
Wake up to see Miranda Kerr and Candice Swanepoel nudie pics.
I’m happy! I’m excited (mentally), and I’m ready for tonight’s game!
We win 3-2!
Leetch, I think you guys completely overestimate Tortorella’s feelings about Avery. Obviously, Avery’s not his favorite, but to say he hates him is ridiculous. If he hated him, he wouldn’t have played all but one game this season. And how, exactly, are they going to get rid of him?
I’m at a basketball game, and one of the players’ last name is Karpie. My favorite player.
Honestly, there are a LOT of black guys on the Thrashers. Kane, Stewart, Byfuglien, Oduya, I think its pretty incredible seeing 4 black guys in the picture on the same line on the ice.
Refresh Refresh Refresh
Morning ILB and all!!!
I’‘d still rather have iggy than gabby, but that is just me!
Off to work. LGR (and LGD….Let’s Go Dvr)!!
Later assens!!
Hey Carp, what do you think about the Gilroy situation? Too young for the craziness of the Centre Bell crowd? I really feel like very time we’ve pulled Eminger out of the lineup we’ve played much worse than when he was in, thoughts?
LOL LETS GO DVR!
Leetch,
I believe Avery will be there next since there aren’t any teams that are willing to trade for him for a couple reasons. First being his reputation and the second being that shared cap hit with Dallas expires if he’s traded. No one will take him for nearly a $4mn cap hit. Whether he plays or not is another story. A lot of that depends on how many of their prospects they sign/whether any of them make the team along with whether Drury is on the team next year too.
My big wonder is whether Boogaard will be on the team. If in fact his problem this year is due to a concussion a doctor may advise him to hang ‘em up so he avoids stopping more punches with his face.
headzo – ahhh yes…you mentioned pro sports…my bad :)
dudley – Players are different people and have different personalities on and off the ice. So the dirty/clean, good/bad human being analogies do not work.
Those 2 posts you pasted were directly in response to the specific RR posters who claimed Chara is not dirty because he has never been suspensions.
In response to your “Pk Subban is both very talented and dirty. This statement and its underlying sentiments would likely be reflected by the majority of fans and players in the NHL.” The same applies to Zdeno Chara. Especially the Montreal Canadiens organization. Chara does have a history of being dirty, with the Senators and bruins. Marc Savard did not have a history of being dirty, but rather as a class guy on the ice, and it is sad what happened to him.
To illustrate how your analogy is fallible, Chara could be the nicest guy in the world off the ice, while Savard could be the meanest SOB off the ice.
Sean Avery, despite the belief of many on here that he is clean, is also dirty. He slashes intentionally at others’ wrists, and ankles. He intentionally contacts goalies. He boarded that Islander the other night, which should have been a 5 minute major. And has done similar many times in the past.
....off to lecture…see youse soon…
4generations, I think the difference between the two is negligible at this point. Gilroy has been very good for stretches, average for others. Eminger’s steadier, but with much less upside. And I don’t think it makes much difference. Pretty sure that the game is at MSG tonight, though. Not Centre Bell.
Boogaard’s injury, officially, is still listed as “shoulder.” I don’t see any use for him whatsoever next season. Thought he was fairly useless when he could fight. What is he if he can’t fight? Brashear?
I??d still rather have iggy than gabby, but that is just me!
***
No, it’s not just you, wick! I would too!!!
4ever, the game is at MSG. Gilroy had a rough few outings even when the team was playing better. I’ve never been impressed with his game, mildly impressed with his skills but he never impacted the game as much as a guy with his skating ability should be able to.
Maybe some of it was that he concentrated more on D than on his offense but in his 2 year audition for the Rangers he never showed even enough flashes of upside for them to think he’s part of a long term solution to a PP QB or roaming threat from the blueline. He had a good story behind him, local kid, family tragedy, walk on at BU to Hobey Baker winner, but his upside is limited due to his age and honestly when MDZ was on his game he was a vastly superior player in their designated role.
carp, do you know what the lines will be tonight?
same as last game, with Wolski probably in Avery’s spot.
It’s too bad Iggy was never ever an option for the Rangers.
Brashear!
eddie3, you know St. Patrick’s Day is over, right?
pk dirtbag is exactly that. a slewfoot is one of the dirtiest plays in hockey, and this punk has done that on numerous occasions, and has gotten called out by the verteran leaders of several teams already, thus he is well known around the league by the players, not just the fans, as a dirty punk who is Avery mouth and carcillo action
Let’s get a Chara-Subban cage match. Who wants to be that Chara throws Subban into the turnbuckle?
*wants to bet
Always wanted Iginla also, but at this point his career, he is what he is. There’s not much room for improvement. Whereas Gabby, when healthy and when efforting, is a 40+ – 50+ goal scorer, especially with better talent surrounding him.
Im anxious to see how Gabbo comes out tonight. Id like to see another good game on the stat sheet tonight for him in a Rangers win or OT/SO loss.
Mama – How is your work day going?
thanks carp, thought wolski might play
CT
what is a turnbuckle?
Dudley: Tiki, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this blog is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. Are you sure you aren’t a Devil’s fan?
Tiki: Okay, a simple “wrong” would’ve done just fine…. I understand, but thought the use of Fallible in my argument might have at least earned me a 1/2 point?
Just kidding Tiki, we can agree to disagree.
What’s important is 2 Points tonight and that, we can agree on!
It’s the metal joint that joins two lines/cables/ropes together. It’s a popular move in WWF wrestling where the padding is taken off the corner of the ring (where the ropes meet) and throwing the opponent into them.
Picture:
http://www.highspots.com/images/images_125/item_ring_corner.jpg
turnbuckle? I thought it was the thing that holds up my belt that holds up my pants
You need pants in AZ, Tony?
Plain and simple we need 2 pts tonight. Any comments Charlie???........And then we get to Sunday Enzo…...What do you think…...Thank You Ottawa.
dudley – I really don’t want to get personal. So Ill just restate my 3 points.
1. A player’s on-ice behavior does not reflect the type of person he is.
2. Zdeno Chara is probably regarded around the league as a dirty player, as you claim Pernell Karl Subban is.
3. Sean Avery is a dirty player.
There’s nothing insanely idiotic about any of that. I hope you were only joking. We can agree to disagree. :)
LGR!
Tony only wears pants when he is photographing Big time celebs.
LOL @ your Billy Madison line!
Is it just me, or is Google totally hartnelled up right now?
Work is work, Tiki….trying to enjoy the beauteous day here while working, and plan to buckle down tomorrow :)
Tony never wears pants in the man cave, though….
Tony you have a man cave? Is it built into the red rock? Details
Tony, is it refreshing to walk around like that? or F5ing?
Gaborik did something last year that Im not sure anyone else in the history of the team have ever done. He signed a big contract to come to the Rangers and then in his first year puts up his best season in the NHL.
out of all the guys that finished in the top 20 in points last season, i guarantee Gaborik has by the far the least productive players on his line and on the PP.
1) I disagree. You can tell a lot about a person by how they play a game. As such, on-ice behavior DOES reflect you character, intelligence, passion, fortitude, etc. Let me give you an example. I dont have a sister, and I dont know if you do, but provided you did, would you want her dating Brodeur or Parise? Both play for the same team, both are relatively vocal… one has a history of being fat and winy, the other for being clean and hard-working. You decide.
2) I disagree but understand this is subjective. I think there is a difference between grit and cheap. I think PK Subban has the potential to develop into a great player, but he needs to play within the game and not according to what he can get away with.
3) I agree. The whole Marty-blocking thing was absurd, cheap, and ridiculous. Ave’s has limited his cheap play but alas, he’s a marked man at this point. At least he is OUR cheap player and I do believe he can be influential when properly leveraged.
LETS GO RANGERS!!!!
I must admit, Jason informed me that was a Billy Madison line. Hence, my most recent post.
Mama, a beauteous woman enjoying a beauteous sunny day while doing a job that she does beauteously! Sounds beauteously beauteous to me! Love ya, Mama bear!
Yes, I do have a man cave. Decorated with all Ranger stuff, over 35 Ranger hats, a 60” HD TV, air hockey table, Fat head of Henrik, Ranger curtains, & other Ranger stuff. I even have a Ranger scoreboard ceiling fixture.
All this & no pants !!
F5, F5, F5 !!
1. Understood and disagreed
2. Understood. Subjective, indeed. I feel Chara is a phsyical, tough defenseman that is very talented and also very dirty.
3. Disagreed that the Marty blocking was cheap. It was within the rules, it was genius, it was artistic, it was beautiful. And the fact that he scored the next time in the zone was delicious. Too bad we lost the game. Thankfully, we won the series. Avery is dirty, though, and I love him for it, and I will always love him as long as he never becomes a bruin.
Again, thanks for the discussion. :)
Finally! A game day!!!
DOWN GO CANADIENS!
Now, that’s deep, CCCP :-)
Tiki – That argument I can deal with.
Discussed my imaginary sister would have to choose either in reflection… Unless Parise comes to Manhattan instead of Richards, in which case, YAHTZEE
what can i say… I’m just full of “deepness” :)
That’s what she sa….. nevermind.
Talk some hockey once in a while, CCCP! ;) That Vaccine album is pretty good!
ilb, shall you be joining us for the game tonight?! :)
My new dosage of Chantix are little blue pills, hope I don’t get them mixed up with the other little blue pills.
I’m gonna need pants !
DVR for me
LOL! Tony, what did I tell you about Chantix?!?
Thanks, Tiki
I’m glad you liked it.
Hope you get to enjoy a victory on the DVR, pal!
Thanks, CCCP!
Good day, all! If I dont get off the computer now, I never will.
Tony – awesome cave.
Tony, you just ruined my day.
C3, yeah, like my cat’s water bowl….:)
Tony, your cave sounds like the NHL store.
Does anyone know? Is the NHL Store on 6th Avenue the only brick and mortar NHL store?
Oh no!
Dawes is in the lineup tonight!
You knooow he’s scoring at least one goal.
Marji – as far as I know yes. Ever been? It’s truly an overpriced Crosby temple!
Marji, check it out.
This was when I just started it. I’ll post more next week when I finish it.

Doodie
funny that you should gillies waaaaaaaaay back in the
comments
because i was just talking last night
when Avery’s ex (actress in Girl Next Door)
was on tv
and i pointed out to my wife about who
she was and what he said
and how he had to go for Anger Management
YET
someone like gillies who physically assaults
opponents
hasn’t been told to do the same thing.
oh well….....Avery Rules, ya know!
jpg, we agree on something!!!
Marji, here’s a funny story Fozzy and I learned when she was in town and we visited the NHL store….they were hugely out of tons of Rangers items. Now, yes, it’s the NHL store, not the Rangers store, but still…it’s in NY right?
Well, it turns out AA had been in there a week before and bought out all the Rangers doodads. Even asked for a discount when he presented his NHL credit card! We learned this from a salesman at the store when we asked where all the Rangers stuff was.
Fozzy was like, great, I can’t get anything cause it’s all been sent to Russia! Good times…...
seriously, anyone got an answer to my google question?
Mama, Google is working fine for me. Are you using Firefox?
Tony, I’m not on FB. :(
Headzo, yes I have been to the NHL Store. You are right about Skid the Kid. I wanted to buy a Rangers hoodie. Waiting on line I see that everybody ahead of me is walking out with a bag with Crybaby on it. When it’s my turn I ask if they have any bags besides the one with Cindy because if not I’m walking out without buying. He found me a diff bag. A really cool one. It looks like hockey skates and the drawstring close at the top looks like hockey laces. I was all smiles. Marji 1 – Sid 0.
Mama – my google works fine. I searched for excrement & its search results gave me carcillo, suppan, kuletta, gillies, etc..
Awesome Marji! Good for you…
Headzo, lol!
Mama, I remember that story with you and Fozzy at the NHL Store. Good one!
Its not your typical NHL store…its NHL Store Powered by Reebok
So whichever player that got the Reebok endorsement contract, that player is on display at that store. Crosby and Ovechkin, just to name a few, happen to be two of those players.
Orr, I know what you mean! Gomez, Dawes, Pyatt, and Mara will all score tonight :P
C3, that’s a good point….
I’m on Firefox….WTB!!!
They must get asked about changing the bags in the NHL Store all the time. I asked the same a couple of years ago, but for some reason relented when they offered to change it. Spent the rest of the day desperately making sure the Crosby side was masked by my legs as much as possible.
i’ve been sending off email via
gmail
and i’ve done a search without a problem.
i’m sure you tried it
but have you closed google and reloaded
or restarted computer?
Ha! Fozzy’s Flyer friend took the Crosby bag (with Ovie on the other side, blech) but she, or someone else, I forget, asked for the other bag and got it. I’d rather carry the gear in my mouth than carry it in a Crosby bag through the streets of NYC.
The Crosby bag is called a purse .
Mama, LMAO!
Good one, Tony!
Just scored some tix to MSG tonight, so no whitty banter or carcillo’s from me tonight ‘heads. Anybody else going?
I wish, Headzo!
Good one TFAZ. Or in the seinfeldian theme – a “european”!
One-hundred Ninety-fifth!?
I literally just called my shoulder bag a “European male carry all”
Mama
i’m on google chrome
wondering
if i should
switch
to Firefox
(wasn’t the name of a Clint Eastwood movie?)
Video of the day :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qciVXUHTN10
Headzo, there should have been a photo of Cooke.
Carp – if you click on the images for that search he’d be there!
does anybody have a link for the game tonight? I’m in a byfuglien hotel that has MSG and MSG+ but not MSG2. freakin clutterbucks.
A fourth grader brought cocaine to his school and shared it with his classmates.
This country is doomed!
201 Carp,

Carp, I think I can help….where are you? upstate i assume for your “other” job?
where TW is available – Ch 197(just in case)
Carp, we’ll defintely have one later…
Ugh!!!! I hate MSG 2! I might as well watch the Habs feed on my PC and listen to Rangers radio!
Carp
game is listed on this site… not sure if it will be streamed though

2012, Orr. 2012.
ORR
well i hope it was a good cocaine and didn’t leave any benzine taste in any of the kids’ mouths lol
2012 can’t come soon enough!! That’s when Dreary’s contract is up too!
did that sound right? “kids’ mouths”? lol
C3, I’m sure it’s hysterical, but don’t have time to watch an hour-long video….who they hack is Beardyman anyway?
Off to grab stuff I need for game up the street :) ...be back in a few….Carp, if you don’t get a link answer from anyone, I can…...
At least the kid shared and didn’t try to sell it!
the only question is…
is Drury’s contract up before OR after doomsday?
There are some gosh darn Debbies fans sitting next to me on the train wearing Parise jerseys. Should I mention he would look great in a heritage blue sweater?
who they hack is Beardyman anyway?
———————
Google it, Laurel :P
Cccp- Depends on your definition of doomsday! I always thought it was 12.21.2012 but I just got a pamphlet informing me that it is 5.21.2011. Pretty soon.
I meant who the heck, but hack may be accurate…...I don’t know :)
Carp, sent you e-mail
off for a bit now…
Let’s go rangers
I’ve had enough of the canadiens and there little smurf players. It’s time to beat these clowns. Throw the puck in there zone and punish there defense. I want to see the rangers defense punish the Montreal little smurf canadiens. The canadiens are like that piece of spinach stuck between your teeth and can’t seem to get rid of. I’m begging you NY Rangers, beat these little crappers. LET’S GO RANGERS!!!!
Just saw that Dwayne Roloson got (temporarily) hurt by a Gomez shot last night. Is there a more embarrassing way to get injured than that?
For me the definition of Apocalipsis is combination of Rangers lose and Debbies make it to playoff. Gadhafi sharing coke with fourth graders, sitting on a top of Fukushima’s 3 reactor is just a horrible news, “O tempora o mores” type. Rangers, from other hand…
Carp – the game is also being carried by NHL network.
must win tonight no excuses. habs played night before missing 3 regulars.
NO EXCUSES GET IT DONE
What is about older Italian men
and having multiple refrigerators!?!?!?!?!?
tweet from pre-game presser

Torts confirms Avery and Gilroy out. On Avery “The penalties certainly factored in.”
No God in the lineup? How will we ever win?
Who you callin’ “older,” JPG?
CCCP, he’s not going to let it ruin his doomsday.
crush the smurf habs…..go prust go…..WW step up…McD and sauer power bring some heat….Dubi – kick some Subban Assen…Hank – stand on your head tonight….3 in a row, here we go !!!!
Yeah, jpg…and how do you know Carp has two refrigerators? :-)
Doomsday? I was talking about voting a certain someone out of office!!!
I saw that last night too, LW. It must’ve deflected and slowed down, or else he’d be dead.
what are the chances Gomez gets interviewed on MSG tonight after the 1st period? and im assuming it’ll be Giannone doing the honors, and Gomez will no doubt attempt an insult.
Why do they keep insisting on using 970 for the radio broadcasts? That station is SO awful. I am in nassau county and i hear a different station’s broadcast over the games cast half the time.
Lev- and I’m, no doubt, will skip it on DVR.
Yeah those Gomez interviews are always hilarious and witty and entertaining … NOT! ... and a reminder of what a failure he was here.
My 5 most hated list: (by intensity) My 5 most likeable teams (besides Rangers)
1. Debbies (to hiccups) 1.Red Wings
2. Philthies (pukeable) 2.Blackhawks
3. Montunreal 3. Lightnings
4. Pissbourgh 4.LA Kings
5. Maple leaves syrups. 5. Isles (yeah, it is fun to watch young bunch)
On the play day, of course, “the most” become a team against.
What about you, guys? What are yours general preferences and idiosyncrasies in NHL?
ohmybyfuglien!
Carp!!
not you too!!
just finished helping my dad and uncle
bring in a fridge in the
great jpg relatives
new fridge
followed by the great fridge swap
so, older as in older than me.
:-)
for me its simple. favorite: Rangers. teams that I hate: other 14 teams in the eastern conference, some more than others, see: Islanders, Philly, Devils, Pens. team i dont hate: western conference.
My list:
1. Devils
2. Devils
3. Devils
4. Islanders
5. Flyers
Red Wings, Chicago, SJ, Kings…
Can someone guess Tiki’s list?
Devils
Flyers
Isles
Pens
Habs
ilb
you stole my list! :)
CCCP- did you spend 8 years living in NJ too? :-)
Ha, your lists are making me LOL (geez, I hate that I now speak in text speak)
all, I’m with those who hate everyone in our division, then conference etc…old debate: I’d rather have someone from the others win than one of our worst enemies.
I coudln’t put Isles on a Most Hated list because it’s like beating up your ugly little brother or something. More sympathy than hate.
Flyers, Devils, Penguins… now THAT is some hate!
Red Wings are easy to like / respect, as are other Western teams since we don’t play them too often, so there isn’t as much of a chance to build up bad blood, have regional rivalries, etc.
i love the rangers…..HATE PENS/ISLES/DEVILS/FILTHY….if the rangers are out of the running…it matters not…..tho, the leafs are sorta ok…same with the sharkies…..but botton line LETS GO RANGERS
Can we just agree on LGR!
wife wants to go to Coldstone
i guess i’ll have to indulge.
said we need to be back by opening faceoff.
she understands.
Hell NO!!! i would rather eat razors than live in NJ! sorry…
i just hate that team, naturally!
but to the list of teams i like I’d add Caps (yes, i like that team!) Calgary, and ‘Nucks
yo yo mamma——play that cello baby…
looking at a hail storm-a-comin…hope I dont lose power LETS GO RANGERS clap clap clap-clap-clap
out of the West I particularly like Flames, Canucks, Sharks, Red Wings, Black Hawks
I just ordered the radio feed – 3 CDs – studio quality of the WNEW radio broadcast of that infamous game 3 ranger/islander 1975 playoffs….Stan – AnthonyM are you out there….
CCCP – razors are good with steak…...
Isles
Flyers
Debbies
Pens
Habs/Craps
Anybody heard of Jennifer Lawrence?
Babe! New babe!
I forgot to add Craps to the bottom of my list. Definitely hate them too.
I’m with Staal et al, though not in that order necessarily…...can they all be number 1?
E3, now I just want razor clams with steak. Dang you…..
Can’t figure out Eminger playing tonight against a very fast, small team. This is exactly the kind of team Gilroy should play against. Plus, Eminger is -3 in two games against the Habs this year.
my liar ’
1 through 5: pens (probably due to locality)
then
isles

Carp
I think it is on the NHL network in the states as well.
The problem I have with gillies isn’t the borderline/dirty physical play, it was the standing in the doorway taunting after the pens player was down injured. If I ran the league he would have been gone for a calendar year for that!
Dudii
Go broncos????
Heritage jerseys. Bad choice.
It would be nice to get this Montreal monkey off of our backs tonight – they played last night, and they have a lot of players hurt and out of the lineup. Of course, they may use that as a rallying point, but our guys should not go easy on them at all. Clean, hard bodychecking is a must for this game.
