Here are the announcements from the Rangers:
RANGERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH DEFENSEMAN DYLAN McILRATH
New York, March 16, 2011 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenseman Dylan McIlrath.
McIlrath, 18, has skated in 59 games with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League (WHL) this season, registering five goals and 18 assists for 23 points, along with 141 penalty minutes. He ranks third among team defensemen in points, goals and power play goals (two), and ranks third on Moose Jaw in penalty minutes. McIlrath established a career-high with his 18th assist of the season in a 5-3 win vs. Regina on March 1. He has also tied his career-high with four multi-point performances this season, including back-to-back two-assist efforts on January 19 vs. Lethbridge and January 21 at Edmonton. McIlrath recorded at least one point in six of eight games from October 13 vs. Kootenay to November 5 at Regina, registering seven points (two goals, five assists) during the stretch. In addition, he posted a career-high, four-game point streak from December 14 vs. Saskatoon to December 28 at Calgary, tallying five points (one goal, four assists) over the span.
Last season, McIlrath received Moose Jaw’s Most Improved Player Award for the second consecutive season, establishing career-highs in games played (65), goals (seven), points (24), penalty minutes (169), plus/minus rating (plus-20), and game-winning goals (two). He ranked second on Moose Jaw with a plus-20 rating, having made a plus-42 improvement in plus/minus rating over the previous season. He also tied for third among team defensemen in goals, assists and points, and led the Warriors and ranked seventh in the league in penalty minutes. The second-year defenseman was selected to participate in the 2010 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Top Prospects Game on January 20 as a member of Team Orr, and he finished second in the Hardest Shot event at the Skills Competition with a 91.8 mph shot. In addition, McIlrath registered one assist and 21 penalty minutes in seven playoff contests, making his WHL playoff debut on March 18 at Calgary and tallying his first career playoff point with an assist on March 23 vs. Calgary.
The 6-5, 215-pounder has appeared in 177 career WHL games over three seasons with Moose Jaw, registering 13 goals and 38 assists for 51 points, along with 412 penalty minutes. McIlrath captured Moose Jaw’s Most Improved Player Award following his rookie season in 2008-09. He made his WHL debut on September 19, 2008 vs. Swift Current, and registered his first career point with a goal on January 10, 2009 at Saskatoon. McIlrath has also tallied one assist and 21 penalty minutes in seven career playoff games with Moose Jaw.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba native was originally selected as the Rangers first round choice, 10th overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
RANGERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH FORWARD RYAN BOURQUE
New York, March 14, 2011 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Ryan Bourque.
Bourque, 20, is a two-time medalist at the World Junior Championship as a member of the United States U-20 team, including a gold medal in the 2010 tournament and a bronze medal in the 2011 tournament.
This season, Bourque has skated in 47 games with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), registering 26 goals and 31 assists for 57 points, along with 15 penalty minutes and a plus-14 rating in 47 games. He has established career-highs in games played, goals, assists, points, and power play goals (six). Bourque ranks third on the team in goals, points and points per game average (1.21). He has posted a career-high, 16 multi-point performances, and tied his career-high with a four-point effort (two goals, two assists) on November 13 at Prince Edward Island. Bourque registered at least one point in 27 of his first 32 games to begin the season, recording 45 points (23 goals, 22 assists) during the stretch. He also tallied a career-high, 11-game point streak from December 3 at Victoriaville to January 26 vs. Rimouski, registering 14 points (10 goals, four assists) over the span.
The 5-9, 170-pounder has appeared in 91 career QMJHL games over two seasons with Quebec, registering 45 goals and 55 assists for 100 points, along with 35 penalty minutes. As a rookie in 2009-10, Bourque registered 43 points (19 goals, 24 assists) in 44 games with Quebec. He ranked seventh among all QMJHL rookies in goals (19), 10th in points (43) and tied for 11th in assists (24). He also ranked sixth on Quebec in goals and points, and tied for seventh in assists. Bourque notched his first career QMJHL hat trick on February 6, 2010 vs. Gatineau. He registered 11 multi-point performances, including three, four-point efforts, and tallied 14 points in a nine-game span from October 24 vs. Baie-Comeau to November 15 at Drummondville (four goals, 10 assists over the span).
Prior to joining Quebec, Bourque skated in 75 games over two seasons with the USA National Under-18 Development Team, registering 24 goals and 38 assists for 62 points, along with 60 penalty minutes. He helped Team USA capture the gold medal at the 2009 U-18 World Championships in Fargo-Moorhead, recording one goal and six assists in seven tournament games. His six assists ranked fourth on the team.
The Boxford, Massachusetts native was originally the Rangers third round choice, 80th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

AM I first ?
I’m so good !
I love you all !
bull dog line
also I would like to extend my hand to CCCP. I have always liked arguing with you and I think things go a little silly between us.
—————————————-
oh so you’re arguing with me but debating with everyone else?! :P
we’re cool, man
just don’t let me catch you with your extended hand in my refrigerator!
The Tony Trick. Good work for being 3 hours behind us.
First!
Aw shucks! Just wasn’t fast enough.
itsabouthockey
yeah that was close… you only missed it by 8 posts! lol
F5, F5, F5, Tony!
LMAO 3CP. Uh oh, I raided your fridge last night. I took the beans, wanted to keep the blog fresh-aired :)
Tony- I will repeat…
Who Needs a Jacuzzi in 92 degree weather?
Very good news for us Rangers fans. Hagelin and Kreider should also be signed before the season’s done!!!
The future is looking bright.
bright – like the weather in AZ.
F5, I love it, easier to type too !
When I see F5, I think of this (the old wrestling nerd in me coming out in full force!)...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=posCXJw0no0
but it’s easier to hit the “refresh” icon with the mouse than to find F5 on the keyboard, in my opinion.
do the other F keys do anything?
Thanks Tony, I voted for Steven McDonald award.
I still think out of towners should be able to win an autographed jersey. They could mail it to us.
F7 = Spell Check!
That’s a good one.
Atta boy, Slats!
Oops, did I just wake up Olga and the family?
F8+F7= byfuglien Crosby!
the other suggestions about F buttons didn’t go through…
I decided to vote for Prust over Boyle.
It was a touch choice, but the more I thought of it, Prust deserves it.
They should share it!
I incorrectly called Dylan McIlrath “The Punisher” in the last thread…I was wrong. I apologize.
His nickname is actually the “Undertaker” . I knew that. Dang it.
Anyway, carry on!
If you own a MAC then F9, F10, and F11 can be fun to display your open programs in more manageable fashions. Also F12 brings up the dashboard.
Am i boring you guys yet?
Kelly Brooke is pregnant.
Fugg! Nothing but bad news!
Can’t wait to see those guys in Ranger Blue – along with Kreider & Thomas, etc. We might actually have a future.
lunch break….
I voted for Prust (future captain I would hope)!
so not sure what the signings mean. Do they really mean nothing? Does it mean we see them with the rangers a few games before the end of the season? Just locking them up?
“but it’s easier to hit the “refresh” icon with the mouse than to find F5 on the keyboard, in my opinion.
do the other F keys do anything?”
ha! I asked that in last thread!! and I agree on using the mouse.
anyhoo, welcome McIlrath and Bourque! (though, I have mixed feelings about having a Bourque on our team :)
so, what will their nicknames be? rathy and borkie? micky and borker? just asking.
btw, C3, you are cracking me up lately…..
leetch, we have a future….oh yes we do.
I was upset by the Kelly Brook news too, Orr. I liked her better with the rugby hunk Danny Cipriani
Wick – It means they are locked up and the Rangers believe they can turn professional soon.
I think Bourque goes to Hartford and the “Undertaker” goes back to Mosse Jaw for on more season before the pros.
But you never know…Rangers might go with an even younger defense next year…McIlrath and Del Zotto are a big part of the future…
*Moose Jaw
Thomas is great, Bourque is great, MZA is great, and so are pint-sized jockeys great. Can we sign some of them too, Slats. What is there, a “Sather Rule” mandating we sign every Mickey Rooney prospect on the block?
I think CCCP checked his fridge, found that the beans had been taken by MOI, and went to the store to pick up some more! If that’s the case, we’d better hold our noses! ;)
Looked up past winners of McDonald award (which I think should go to Prust, hands down…sorry Cally) and found Sandy McCarthy, who won it twice in a row only a decade ago. I am ashamed to admit, I went huh?
Oh, the memory fades and the car keys are lost forever…..
Hey Boom Boom – Size doesn’t matter, you know?
Marty St. Louis, Brian Gionta, Jeff Skinner, Tyler Ennis…etc I can go on…
Received the tickets from the contest! Special thanks to the ticket donor and Carp!!
yeah, mamma agrees prust should be steve mcdonald award winner
This Kelly Brooke news is upsetting.
She did Playboy, then did another nudie photoshoot.
Now it’s over! Damn it!
Mama, I was thinking the same thing when I check it before. LOL! Sandy McCarthy. Those must have been some depressing teams.
Zipay says that if we open the season next year in Sweden, we would then go to the west coast (of either USA or Canada) and then have our home opener around October 30th. this year we opened the season on October 9th and the home opener was on the 15th. does this mean we’d have a pretty extensive home stand next year? would love if the Rangers played a game in Gothenburg as well as Stockholm as I have family in Gothenburg and have been there myself several times. (met Lundqvist twins there several years back)
Isn’t the mcdonald award for community services off the ice as well as on the ice ?
I thought it was the extra effort award. maybe I’m wrong
Sandy Mac deked Brodeur out of his XXL hockey pants to score in the game that broke the Rangers’ 150-year winless streak against the Devils in the 2000/01 season. For that reason, I have affection for his time as a Ranger.
Surely the high point of Guy Hebert’s Ranger career too.
So, yes Orr, depressing teams.
ORR, don’t forget Jed!!! wtb?
Someone, or Carp, help me…..I thought the McDonald award, when it says above and beyond, meant off ice, too, like Graves, but now I’m thinking it’s just about the play? In that case, definitely Prust!!!!
p.s who the byfuglien is Kelly Brook and why should I care???
tony and jpg’s sister, my point, exactly…..
LW, that was a typo right? Are you sure Brodiva was wearing only XXL?
I thought all his clothes were custom made, because New Jersey doesn’t have any “Big & Wide” stores.
Or maybe he was in semi-decent shape, for his standards at least.
I like the idea opening at home on the 30th. We suck at home as it is. So, personally, I welcome that scenario with open arms.
Although, I heard that we were playing in Russia, against the Craps.
Graves won the award 5 times. Nobody was more involved in charity work then Gravy.
That’s why I’m thinking the award is for “above & beyond”
Kelly Brooke is a British babe, with perfect natural gonzagas, with a nice pair of pokies. They look like bullets.
Horrible movies. Not that great of an actress, I think. But, so great to look at.
And Ortmeyer definitely deserved those two Micky D awards. I loved that guy as a Ranger. Nothing but heart. He was like Callaman, just minus the offense.
LOL! Gonzagas! (I know I’m 28, yes it is still funny)
It’s funny, I still see Ortmeyer Ranger jerseys when I go to the Garden….
Zipay says Sweden vs either Kings or Flames with some preseason games in Hungary and Czech Republic…Hungary really?....im sure Ovechkin would love nothing more than to open in Russia though. and Anisimov. and i mean Moscow or St. Petersburg not Omsk or something like that.
Gonzagas = F5, F5, F5 !!!
LMAO! Hungary?? Maybe Zipay meant they’re “hungry for Czech pre-season games”??
I hope they verse the Kings. That would be a pretty cool way to open the season.
Personally, I’d rather them go to London. But, it would be cool for Hank, so meh.
I used to have an Ortmeyer jersey, but when Slats dumped him to re-sign Hollweg, of all people, I had to get rid of it. I couldn’t look at it without shedding a tear.
Are there any ice skating rinks in Hungary? I doubt…
Heatley suspended two games for trying to kill Steve Ott.
Apparently he told Gary Buttman he lost control of his car…..err, skates. but he didn’t buy it :P
I think they freeze mud, Ilb. I could be wrong.
You’re probably right, Orr. Then it’s all good. Frozen mud should feel exactly like the ice in MSG. We should be fine.
LOL! I saw that he got suspended. What a byfuglien heatley that guy is…
LOL! It’s probably better than Garden ice!
It would be great if Jokinen played on Hungary mud-ice. Pigs love mud, don’t they?
So when Staal, Dubinsky, Sauer, McD, Callahan, Dubinsky are in there primes, you mean to tell me were going to have Mcllwrath and Borque as our new rookies. I like the way things are going!
ye Hungary of all places… soon it’ll be Bratislava, Belgrade, Zagreb. then they’ll go down to Africa. are there any NHL Hungarian players? doubt it
LOL! Man-Bear-Pig would love it!
Apparently, they do play hockey in Hungary and it isn’t on mud. Can you believe that?
http://www.icehockey.hu/index.php?lang=en
Canes up 1-0
Coach of the Hungarian national team is Ted Sator, ex-Rangers coach. What, they couldn’t hire Ron Low?
It all comes down to who has a better handwriting, LW3H
Apparently, Bryan Trottier is still drafting his 300-page handwritten resume to submit to the Hungarian federation.
Phaneuf goal! 1-1
Leaves tie it up.
Manfried – Not anymore. Unless of course you press the fn button first. Now F3 gets you to see all windows and F4 to the Dashboard.
F5 DOES NOTHING FOR ME!! on a Mac
Haha, LW!
3-1 Leaves!
Weeeeeeeeeee!
Is this thing on?
Phaneuf= Monster tonight.
Yes, it is Yes, he is…
Nothing sloppy aboot him tonight.
Haha,Orr! Zing!
It is, actually, a pretty good game. High intensity, good goaltending. Not much played in the neutral zone. Very playoff like. Carolina looks a bit slow, especially on defense. Last night’s win over Buffalo has a lot to do with it.
Damn! I thought NYR were on tomorrow. I’m getting annoyed with the two day breaks between games.
....and spring became a summer.
...hands touching hands , reaching out . Touching me , Touching youuuuu!!!
LETS GO RANGERS!!!!!!
Two days rest is GREAT!! Rest up boys cuz in 2 dayz wesa gonna make sum NOISE!!!!!!
MOST EXCITING TIME OF YEAR and we will not be denied!!!
LES GO RANGERS!!!!
Hi gang!
The Undertaker and mini-Ray Bourque are signed, and Hagelin on the way. Man, the Rangers future’s is so darn bright.
Great news on an insanely busy day.
Go Leaves.. I think.
Two very interesting signings.
On McIlrath – isn’t it true that unless he plays in the NHL next year, he has to be returned to the WHL, and that he cannot play in the AHL? He will be 19 all next year. Do you guys think Sather finds him potentially NHL-ready? Wouldn’t it make more sense to invite him to training camp and then decide whether to sign him then? Still, it’s good news to see him improving and to see the team has taken an interest.
On Borque – seems like a great scorer, but only 5’9”. Great value for a 3rd round pick. Anyone think he has a chance?
Yo! what’s up ZzZz Greg? Like the new name! LGR!
hey ORR, i know how you enjoy looking at attractive but since my dinner was just ruined, i think i may ruin yours too
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1366630/Kesha-hits-bum-note-beach-granny-pants-bikini.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
Channeling your inner Neil Diamond, Greg?
attractive females*
Everyone SUCKS but us!!!!!
mike K- his entry level contract doesnt start unless he plays at least 10 games with the Rangers. So, theoretically, they can start him next season and return back to juniors (not AHL) before he plays his 10th game. In that case, his contract will be extended for one more year.
ugh I got chills hearing Beninati on Versus, but it’s only because it’s a Comcast simulcast.
I already saw that, Lev. I nearly vomited when I saw it.
Anyone got the terms on the contracts?
I actually think sandy played fairly well with the rangers….just saying!
NYR
thanks, kinda what I figured!
Leaves with a huge regulation win over the Canes.
Thank you!!
Canes look gassed. That’s the problem with games in hand sometimes- they have to be played within a much more condensed schedule comparing to the teams you’re chasing. And now Carolina has no games in hand on Rangers and is 4 points behind.
ilb – thanks that makes sense.
Yeah Mickey , after pounding out the fishsticks its time to sing sum Neil!!!
Doodie, CapGeek lists Bourque’s deal as $615,000 for NHL next season, $640,000 in 2012-13 and $715,000 in 2013-14 with a cap hit of $656,667 each season. His AHL salary would be $67,500 for each of those three seasons.
Not sure about McIlrath. He’ll probably get close to what Cam Fowler got for his entry level.
wasn’t sandy the one involved with theo versus the fishies and the whole chicken dance thing?
Those contracts are difficult to find, Doodie. It’s probably typical three year two-way entry level with maximum allowable bonuses since he was a first rounder.
ilb , games in hand can be a curse sometimes. You think ya can relax but losing the games ya have in hand is a huge bummer and can result in a futher losing streak. Now is crunch time and the losers will fade and the contenders show up. We are showing up and we are not going to stop. We play hard and treat each game like it is our last . This year we will not be denied!! Bring on the Flyers!!!!!
Excellent idea: http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/cultist/2011/02/cookie_monster_and_kirk_dougla.php
Lol, Miami…They should pay you royalty fees.
Leaves play the Cats tomorrow, and most likely will win. Then they’ll be two points out of 8th place.
Would you guys rather play WAS or PHI?
I think the Steven McDonald Extra Effort award is strictly for on-ice performance.
Looking at Sandy McCarthy fights on youtube reminded me of Domi. Prust might just be the post lockout version of Domi….although Domi managed to score 15 one year in the clutch & grab era.
Incidentally, McCarthy yelled at my buddy who was low and heckling during a Flyers/Rangers (McCarthy was a Flyer) game that he would see him in his dreams and be scared sh*tless, classic.
I want Philthy.
I voted for Washington in Carp’s poll.
is this thing on?
Apparently not!
2-1 Ducks!
Flames in 9th!
Me = Happy
(knock knock)
Everyone getting ready for Friday night already?
Hi Mickey!
Just saw “Rango”
Great movie!
F5! F5! F5!
JJP – sandy maybe a thrower during his time in blue, but DO NOT mistake his fist work with Domi who was the best middleweight of his time who took on all the heavies and had some skills too.
Trying to find one ticket for Tuesday’s game vs. Florida. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Travelling from Nova Scotia.
