Fehr on the GMs’ meetings

Got this release from the NHLPA:

Statement from NHLPA Executive Director Don Fehr

Toronto (March 14, 2011) – National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) Executive Director Don Fehr made the following statement today regarding initiatives announced at the GM meetings:

“The NHLPA is pleased that we have reached an agreement with the NHL regarding clarification of the Concussion Evaluation and Management Protocol. We are confident that the protocol will be properly implemented across the NHL by each of its member clubs. This is a significant step to improve player safety, and concussion protocol is an area where we will continue to work with the league, through the joint NHL/NHLPA Concussion Working Group.

We are also pleased that the NHL has agreed to replace the seamless tempered glass with plexiglass systems. During discussions with the NHL last year, the NHLPA agreed to approve new soft cap shoulder pads beginning with the 2010-11 season, provided that the NHL agreed to review boards and glass in each of the 30 NHL rinks, in particular, those rinks where seamless glass is currently in place, an area of NHLPA membership concern. Following the boards and glass review, the NHL agreed that the six NHL arenas that have seamless tempered glass would be required to be replaced with a safer plexiglass system by the start of the 2011-12 season. This is a positive development, and the league and the NHLPA will continue to monitor all boards and glass to determine if further changes are required.

In regards to the other announcements coming out of the GM meetings today, we welcome these steps and look forward to discussing these and other issues with the NHL to provide a safer working environment for the Players.”

Congrats to DCloutier39 for winning the pair of tickets in the latest Boneheads Pick the Score contest extravaganza and picnic. And the way ticket prices are going, this may be the only way some of us ever get to see a game anymore.

By the way, the Allman Brothers Band is puttin’ it down on MSG!

Crosby steps on the ice for the first time since his concussion. He skates around twice, says “look at the pretty lights!” and goes back in the locker room. There is no timetable for his return…

  2. Olga Folkyerself on

Kanes turn to score… 6-3 Black Hawks! Does Niemi get to go back in goal again?

  3. Olga Folkyerself on

I love Chicago’s strategy- average 2 goals a period and let the other team try to catch up…

  4. Olga Folkyerself on

Chicago has 3 games left with Detroit. Two of them to finish the season. Detroit is up by 6 points. They can catch them, even with only 12 games left.

  5. Ah well, I guess he is…As far as the Rangers are concerned, at least Slats burned Gainey and stole McDonagh from the Habs in that deal!! Bwaha! And, who knows what V-Tenk is going to end up being?

  6. Olga Folkyerself on

Sather just recovered well from another lousy UFA signing of Gomez. I don’t know how he found someone stupid enough to take Gomez off our hands. That just means he is the next-to-worst GM.

  7. EXTEND SATHER!! He got us the McDonut!! YES!! S&P Futures getting rocked..just like islanders going to get from the boys! there goes the boom!

  8. Olga, he’s the best at trades, so we’ll keep him for now…It is Dolan that must go!!!

  9. Olga Folkyerself on

Dolan knows carcillo about hockey. But he’ll own the Knicks forever, and that includes having the Rangers too.

Sather is the one who is running the hockey operation. 2 playoff series won in 11 years. Obviously, “best at trades” is not enough to win in the post season.

  10. Retire Sather. 11 years. even a squirrel ocasionally etc….it is Clark who finds the young prospects. sather just eats pie and cake.

    Go Hawks !!

  11. nyr_fan, yeah, and you know they always play us well.

lets go blackhwaks? is this blackhawks report? BLASPHEMY!!

  12. Olga Folkyerself on

Frankly hockee, I don’t care HOW he goes. He can go out with the fanciest funeral in MSG history.

Just so he’s gone from the New York Rangers Organization.

  13. I read an article that sather would like to finish up in Chicago…that would be cool way for him to finish stellar career.

  14. the Rangers will beat the Isles tomorrow. and the leaves just got raked tonight, so they are one less team to worry about

  15. Chicago, just as the Rangers, are only 4 points ahead of the last place in the conference…

    I’m just saying ;)

  16. Olga Folkyerself on

True enough 3CP. But Chicago’s in 4th, Rangers in 8th. I call it “The Sather Effect”.

  17. It’s on. My jaw is absolutely killing me, so I dont think Ill be asleep any time soon.

The Blackhawks may be 4 points from being out of the playoffs, but that’s because they play in the absurdly difficult West.

Congrats, Olga. Just a couple weeks ago, I think I remember you saying they were a point or 2 out of the playoffs. Im happy for you.

  18. wooohooo! Computer issues FIXED. Thank god for smart brothers who can talk me through stuff over the phone.

Again, thanks for the birthday wishes. Had a nice day topped off with a phone call with the bro, sis and Dad and meatloaf.

I’m already pumped for the Icelanders tomorrow night.

  19. Meatloaf phoned Mickey. I wonder what song was sung?

MM – Dont think I forgot about your birthday present! :)

  20. I’ve been having some PC glitches, and had to rely on No 1 grandson to fix it ( eh – he might have caused them;)…
I will be stunned, stunned I tell you, if Vancouver doesn’t take the cup this year.

Those TV filming scenes of Japan are almost unbelieveable…..
and you’ve got to admire the fortitude of a people who can persevere with such aplomb amidst such unbelievable disaster and horror.

  21. Just a few thoughts in passing……

I can report now that Kessel has returned to the land of the living, and is making his presence felt. ( Strange young man – so much talent and so little effort made to keep a consistent game approach.)

I have a bad feeling about this game coming up for Rangers…
they better start showing some attack and serious hockey in the offensive zone, or those fast forwards on Isles will embarrass them. Someone mentioned that Isles have “no defense”.
Uh, may I offer up a few folks named Hillen, Martinek, Urbina,
who have generally been playing very good defense lately.
And anyone who takes Gervais lightly had best have second thoughts.
