It’s Go Time (deadline version)!

Larry Brooks tweets that the asking price for Richards is Anisimov, a No. 1 pick, and a prospect. Which is about what I figured it would be …

And we know Glen Sather will use his leverage on the Stars’ ownership and management. Give him that. The man knows how to play hockey-deal poker. Because as we head toward 3 p.m. Eastern, unless Dallas gets a bidding war going (with Los Angeles?), the price comes down.

Here is my column from The Journal News and

Darren Dreger tweets that there is only one team to which Richards would waive his no-trade clause. His guess is as good as yours: The team with Richards’ former Stanley Cup-winning coach, John Tortorella.

Nick Kypreos reporting that Habs are interested in re-acquring Christopher Higgins, who has a broken thumb. There’s a punchline in there somewhere.

Bob McKenzie reports LA Kings sign Justin Williams for four years, $14.6M.

USA Today’s Kevin Allen reports Atlanta close to signing Mark Stuart for three years.

Islanders may be shopping Konopka, and while he might be a knucklehead, he’s a guy lots of teams might want: Tough, willing, skates well enough to deliver hits and kill penalties, and good on faceoffs.

Florida trades Radek Dvorak (again) and a fifth rounder to Atlanta for Nick Bergfors and Patrick Rismiller (remember him?).

Florida trades Dennis Wideman to Washington for Jake Hauswirth and a third-rounder.

Detroit close to signing Jimmy Howard to a contract extension.

Calgary claims Brett Carson on waivers.

Ottawa claims Curtis McIlhenney on waivers.

Atlanta claims Rob Schremp on waivers (apologize for any spelling errors).

Columbus trades Klesla to Phoenix for Upshall and Lepisto.

Dallas Morning News reporter Mike Heika spoke with Brad Richards, who skated this morning, and who said he hasn’t spoken to anybody about his no-trade clause.

TSN reporting Ottawa trades Chris Campoli to Chicago for a second-round pick and Ryan Potulny.

McKenzie reports St. Louis trades Brad Winchester to Anaheim for a 3rd round pick.

Also, Bryan Allen from Florida to Carolina for Sergei Samsonov.

St. Louis deals Brad Winchester to Anaheim for a third-round pick.

Colorado trades Kevin Montgomery to Edmonton for Shawn Belle.

Big deal of the day so far: Edmonton trades Dustin Penner to the Kings for Colton Teubery, a first-round pick and a conditional third or second-rounder. Which might mean the Rangers are all alone in the Richards sweepstakes, which means with little more than 30 minutes left, Glen Sather has all the leverage … though a high price has been set.

About Author

  1. Just to remind youse guys, we will be updating the original post(s) all day as stuff happens. And when it gets too big, we’ll put up a new post.

  2. TheREALMikeyNJ on

Dreger just reported Richards is only willing to lift his NTC clause to ONE TEAM, and it’s of course The Rangers.

I know we all hate Sather, but he is a great poker player when it comes to trades.

I hope he waits it out for a little bit today, gets Anisimov off the table, then makes the trade with a counter offer with some HArtford talent the Stars would like. (And no one We want to keep)

  3. Good morning, boneheads! Tough to catch up with you if you’re two hours behind.
Good review in the previous post, Carp. Pay good attention to #6 ‘heads, we need to get in. I’m not convinced Tampa will be that formidable come the playoffs. I can see Torts adjusting to them overloading one side in the D-zone easily during the POs, it may actually backfire. Not sure their defense is good enough to withstand well organized forecheck. They have a good coach, but his PO experience is zip.

  4. TheREALMikeyNJ on

and seriously if there IS one thing I have faith in Glen Sather to accomplish, is making good trades at the deadline

Im still amazed GOmez is gone and we have Mcdonough!

PLus I read on a few boards the leafs are looking for an experienced Dman, and Burkey may want to take a chance on Redden either this or next season

  5. If that is true, Richards will only waive his NTC to come to NY, than my guess is he is staying put. And if Slats gives up anything close to the above mentioned package, I’ll be joining Olga’s plan on his future right away. That package( and, probably more) would be acceptable for Statsny, but not for Richards.

  6. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

hello skILBunny!! how are you and the mrs enjoying the trip so far??

If its true that he who shall not be named by me, will waive his NTC only for the Rangers, either Glen has the leverage now, or Dallas takes him off he table.

  7. Carp, I’ll be skiing on it all week. It’s 7:30 am here, lifts are open at 9. So I’ll be with you til then. Skiing after, but will be checking my iPhone frequently. Maybe someone from another snowy state can text me if something happens ( hint, hint) :-)

  8. I know, pathetic, Manfried….one would expect to have a radio connected to NHL station on every ski lift, if not on the slopes.

  9. i think he doesnt stay put ilb. the stars will not be able to resign him in the offseason im guessing, so why would he stay put? doesnt that give slats a better chance to land him?

  10. “3) Having said all of that, I thought Girardi made some ridiculous plays, starting with the pass to nobody in the slot from behind the goal line that trapped him and created the 3-on-2 (I said, “1-0” before the three Lightnings reached the red line) for the 1-0 goal. Can’t do that against that team … not with two forwards deep, too.

    4) I still am giving Henrik Lundqvist the benefit of the doubt on the Marty St. Louis goal”

I don’t think that’s so much a ridiculous play as it just went the wrong way. Ever notice how there are no Rangers near the slot when someone is behind the net or they are never in a scoring position on the crease? Maybe Tampa watched some tape!

That goal is on Henrik. You need to stop those shots especially when you are in position.

I really hope we don’t trade for Richards. Get him as a UFA!

  11. Gift of GAB-orik on

    and the plot thickens indeed.

Seems like Sather is fully in control now. It’s just evolved into a “you should take what i’m willing to give you since your guy is as good as gone July 1st” situation.

Don’t fold Sather! Don’t give up Artie!

  12. Stranger Nation on

From last post about hank’s puck handling skills, the worst I have seen handling the puck was Richter. They could have used Healy in net who was one of the best out of his crease and could rifle the puck with best of them (fatty from NJ included). But Ricky’s puck stopping skills were vastly superior and a banner hangs from the rafter as proof.

I always thought the same about Ricky’s game – why can’t they teach him how to play the puck behind the net. My guess is he tried and for whatever reason could not master the skill.

The challenge for Hank is he is the highest paid goalie in the league in which the difference in overall skill level can be overshadowed with a hot streak in the POs. That being said, the philth and the bolts cannot feel good about their net minders now.

Notice the rangers are blocking less shots these days (or so it seems). While they are not afraid to take it for the team, but the result many times is a deflected puck changing angles on way to net. Better to tie up your man or clear the front, then to play goalie.

  13. We are doing well, Linda, thanks. Mrs has already planned our dinners for the whole week. Before doing that she asked me which nights I have a game to watch. Love my wife. Of course, I told her I could watch after dinner.

  14. Mike, if they don’t get any value for him, they may as well keep him, if not for anything else, but to make a deeper run into the POs. That will make them some money and, perhaps, make the team more attractive to sell

  15. working from home today. actually more time to spend with baby and the nhl network. i love this day thats until sather mortgage the farm for a guy if we get in richards we still will lose in 1st round thats assuming we get in

  16. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

she’s a good woman ilb, and you’re a good man! Perfect match

Grabby, if it gets later and nothing has been done, and the Stars are not sure they can sign him 7/1, the price might drop a bit

  17. Stranger Nation on

If you watch the play with girardi the big problem was the bolts were not pressuring the puck and were tying up men in front. If he continued to skate around the net and picked his head up, he would have been better off finding an open man, rather that firing a blind pass that actually hit off the side of the goal and carromed through the crease, out in front, leading to odd man rush.

Rangers score 1 goal, but they lost because of Hank? Girardi is not a 1st pair Dman. With McCabe here, he should be in 3rd pairing with Auntie Em or Gilly. This will create more balance on the back line and prevent staal from logging 30 mins a game.

  18. Thanks, Linda, I’ll tell her
Btw, someone was praising Buffalo for getting Boyes For only 2nd rounder last night. Classic salary dump. The new owner showed that he is willing to spend some money, that’s all. JD won that trade by a wide margin. $4M for a former 43 goal scorer who hasn’t done much since? If Sather made that trade, it would totally kill our summer cap.

  19. AA is OK but no great shakes – if he’s the cost for top end talent that we don’t have and desperately need, you pay it.

  20. Shoryuken on Glen Sather on

Do the right thing Trader Glen. We have a good thing brewing here, so don’t get crazy. (Fingers crossed)

Though, with the exception of trading away Tyutin, who I really liked, and for Zherdev no less, his trades have been good since he’s gotten here. Long may it continue.

  21. Lebrun twittered that the Rangers are saying the asking price is too high. I think this was Sather (or his cronies) leaking it out to force Joe’s hand to lessen the return.

If the talk is true about Stastny, I rather move players for him. Who knows, maybe we can get both……..a man can dream!!

  22. AA at times has made Sundin style plays where he drives
to the net hard and scores a goal, but those moments are few and far between. I think you keep Stepan over him.

  23. Carp, I agree totally with your assessment of trading for concussed players!!! It just doesn’t lend itself to a long time relationship. I’d hate to lose Arte because I like his upside, but you have to give to get. I do disagree with you on Hank. Whereas, Torts does a lot of “calling out” Hank on certain goals, Keenanesque!!! But he has be so inconsistent this year. He plays great a game or two then gives up 3 goals, one being a softie. And as hard as this team plays to the end, they rarely get that tying goal after that 3rd period, gut wrenching opponents’ goal. I DVR’d the game and after Vinny’s goal, I fast forwarded it to the end because I didn’t have the confidence they would tie it up!!! I hate feeling that way but we need a finisher!!! It was a bad call on Girardi but I hate laying this loss at the feet of the refs. Sorry Torts. There was plenty of time to tie this game but we just couldn’t

  24. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

NYR could push Prospal $1.1M bonus, some EL bonus $ to next yr if necessary to get Richards but that would be tough on 11/12 beginning 7/1

  25. So it becomes a Melo-drama…Richards only wants to come here and so Dallas has to decide if they want to retain him and risk losing him for nothing this summer or negotiate with what Sather and co feel is reasonable return..Probably going to go right down to the wire today. buckle uo boys and girls!

  26. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

beth, i’m wondering if i should have just asked to leave at 1 lol. All quiet on the Eastern front, but i fully expect things to heat up around noon my time.

  27. Agree, James G.

DJK- Stepan and AA are projected to be 1-2 centers for the team for years to come. If you get Richards, you keep them both, one slides on the wing. If they get Stastny ( doubtful ), one of them can be moved in the deal. And, yes, in that case, I’d keep Stepan too.

  28. Good morning, all.

I am not sure how a coach’s lack of experience means the Lightning will not advance deep into the playoffs?

I thought Bylsma had very little playoff experience or none at all with the Pens…

It’s more about the talent and experience on the ice than it is about the coaching.

  29. Artie, I wasn’t absolving Lundqvist. I’m just saying that at this point it might be counterproductive for the coach to publicly call out the goalie every time he thinks a shot should have been or could have been stopped.

  30. I have been lurking every day, but haven’t posted in a while. I usually don’t post if my point of view has already been expressed by others. However, I have to shout it out now… WHY GIVE ANYTHING FOR RICHARDS WHEN WE CAN GET HIM FOR FREE LATER!?!?!

Give Dallas a nothing offer and force them to accept it or wait until the summer to get him. Other than that, keep the kids. At this point, it bears watching to see how Richards recovers from the concussion before we give anything for him. Picking him up later is the smarter option. Richards doesn’t make this team a cup champion.

  31. Boom Boom Bathgate on

Where will Richards’ career be in five years? Where will AA’s career be in five years? This G.D. well better not happen.

  32. People just don’t understand that there are very few guarantees in sports.

Brad Richards is not guaranteed to come to New York on July 1.

Just as Cliff lee was not guaranteed to come to New York in November.

Just as Anthony was not guaranteed to come to New York in the offseason.

When there’s that much money at stake, there are no guarantees.

  33. Boom Boom – But we can’t afford to wait 5 years for Artie. This is New York. You can’t rebuild here, remember?

  34. Noah-tenko-rury, 28 on

This made me dry heave a little bit…but when it comes to trade deadline day, IN SATHER I TRUST!

    (projectile vomiting)

  35. Boom Boom Bathgate on

See, Sather is a “short timer” now so he doesn’t care about the Rangers’ promising future. Doesn’t care if he mortgages it. We get Richards we win the Cup? in 2011? Somebody is pucking nuts in the fat man’s office.

  36. dshea- please don’t use the word “lurking” :-)
As far as what you’ve said- yes, most of us agree on it. Why give up anything at all? Having said that, if we can get him now for some picks, it’s not a bad thing to have. He may help the team to get into the playoffs, it’s not a done deal yet. And he may help them, perhaps, go deeper than one round. This could be an invaluable experience for our young core.

  37. I’ll be honest…. I have no problem trusting Sather on deadline day. I believe Torts has his ear to some extent and getting McCabe for a 3rd and Kennedy was slick. On that topic, I loved McCabe’s genuine excitement to be joining our squad.

AA is a good player with big upside… that being said, i have no problem losing him for Richards. I would however draw the line with that being as “generous” as we get. There is no situation where I want to lose a Stepan, McD, or MZA.

We need to maintain the snarl, the Lighting game was annoying to watch.

  38. can’t trade McDonagh. They can have Gilroy, Valentenko or Kundratek.

As i’ve been saying for months now, Anisimov has always been expendable as he is never going to be an all-star caliber player. The concussion doesn’t worry me at all, nor does the “risk” of him not signing here.

The only thing i’m worried about is the Rangers giving him a big contract although if anyone can trade a massive contract its Sather…

  39. I don’t like guarantees in general, but Sather will not give AA for Richards. I don’t think we should worry about that part.

  40. Sather will do what’s best today for the long-term health of the franchise. Keep in mind, the Rangers aren’t going to seriously contend for a Cup for at least 4 years, when Henrik is in his 30s iirc. The Knicks, if they retain Walsh, are more likely to seriously contend before the Rangers are.

  41. Mister Delaware on

Tiki, Anthony and Lee are both arguably top 20 players in their respective sports. Richards … ???

  42. Boom Boom Bathgate on

SCX – Will all respect, please don’t give me that Mike Francesa “This is New York – that won’t play here” nonsense. The Rangers now have the opportunity to patiently add pieces to the puzzle, rather than demolish the puzzle, one traded kid at a time.

There is NO pressure on the Rangers to win a Stanley Cup, this year any year. This is not Montreal, Mr. Francesa, where there is no rebuilding and where there is enormous pressure to win the Cup, every year.

What drives me nuts is this fat GM playing it desperately, every year at this time. I hate that bastard more than Hitler.

  43. Doodie Machetto on

homerj357, Cafe 31 eh? I’m friends with the owner. Personally, I never go into the place if I can help it because I think it’s really overpriced. But the food is definitely good.

If the thing about one team for Richards is true, then Sather has all the leverage and it won’t cost that reported price.

  44. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

Nieuwendyk making very tough call an easy one for Sather…

    brookise being a bit cryptic?

  45. Noah-tenko-rury, 28 on

    Re: McCabe

I thought he played very well for his first game with a new team. He was excellent and keeping the puck in the zone and fired several cannons from the point.

I had to rub my eyes after seeing a couple of his shots hit the net. It was like Dorothy opening the door to technicolor.

  46. ilb- I would get him for picks and Christensen or another periphery player.

Tiki- I also know that you have to give to get, but I am not about giving anything of value for a potential rental player that may take one more hit and be out for the season. If this team were much closer to being a real contender, I can see the potential in taking the chance, but they are not there. This isn’t Doug Weight for Esa Tikkanen. This is (possibly) Artie for a player who may disappear physically and/or medically. Too much to give up for that.

  47. Shoryuken on Glen Sather on

Thank you Linda, I’m glad someone missed my butterknife-sharp analysis of Rangers hockey, haha

  48. Noah: Agreed. I think McCabe’s shot is really great on the power play – it’s low and it’s on target. Shockingly on target for a Ranger’s Point Man.

  49. Boom Boom Bathgate on

And one more thing – waiting until just before the deadline to pull the trigger on a lousy, short-sighted deal does not make it a solid, long-term, good deal, nor does it make The Fat Man a good poker player. A good poker player wins the big show-down hand, not just the little hands along the way.

  50. To be clear, I don’t want Richards at the trade deadline. I don’t think Richards is a top 20 player in the league. I don’t think a half-season rental of Richards is worth anything of value. I don’t think he’s a gamebreaker by any means.

  51. Shoryuken on Glen Sather on

“I hate Sather more than Hitler.”

But that would make the Redden/Drury/Gomez signings his Battle of Stalingrad?

  52. Remember Two Things on

Nieuwendyk has proven he is in over his head as GM and now has zero leverage if reports about waiving NTC cept for NYR is true. Both teams are better off not doing anything.

Rangers will sone have too many forwards if you count tenko and gabby. Trade some of the redundant parts (EC, WW, VP) for picks and bring up some more youth (sign Kreider?)

  53. 3CP – It’s like double negatives – they cancel each other out.

“If 2 Concussed players are put in a room they will no longer be concussed as long as they are in each others presence.” – WebMd.Com

  54. i agree with Carp

say hes traded to LA he may very well sign an extension and then we lose out.

however i dont go crazy with a package.

if its my call i offer arty and a pick. thats all

  55. I disagree, I think Sather is willing to deal AA at this point….

… and while I am always nervous regarding a concussed player, I still think the time is right to snatch up Richards. I get the sense LA would love to sweep in late and steal him after missing Ilya.

***Agreed, I thought McCabe looked good. The big shot from the point was welcome and his passes looked equally impressive.

  56. I think I’m going to be sick before today is over. Maybe Uncle Glennie will get lost in the MSG Renovations and not be able to find his office? We can hope.

  57. dshea – I agree. And I do not think that Sather will give up Artie or anyone besides Gilroy for Richards. I don’t think that we will acquire Richards today at all. BUT…a lot of you terribly overrate our young guys and our prospects. In all honesty, IMO, AA is just an average player with 2nd line potential with the Rangers, tops. I don’t think AA for Richards and an extension is a horrible trade. That’s if I actually wanted Brad Richards.

  58. Richards is NOT a rental player!!!!!!!

if the Rangers trade for him there is a 100% chance he is being resigned.

  59. CCCP – I don’t know why you’re acting like that towards me. I am not going to get into another LT discussion. I find your comment to me to be disrespectful.

  60. Fyi, I was at the game yesterday and anyone who watched ought to know the interference penalty on Dubi was as false as you could possibly get. I’d hate to be that ref cuz the entire Garden erupted in boo’s after the replay was shown on the monitor. It was clear as day that Dubi had nothing to do with that guy falling down. He intentionally fell down to draw a penalty. Cheap move if you ask me.

As far as Hank goes, I’d start lookin to draft a goalie in the next couple years. Hank’s numbers have been getting progressively worse since his rookie season. As someone pointed out, he’s too inconsistant. I understand the Bolts have a lot of talent on that roster but c’mon now, they had Roloson between the pipes! This was their game to lose and that 5-3 ended up costing them the game.

  61. Richards is in Tortorella’s plans and has been since he took over as coach. I’ll go out on a limb and say it’s happening today.

  62. Noah-tenko-rury, 28 on

The Richards concussion is really the unpredictable variable in this whole equation. If he was healthy, I’d gladly deal AA, a pick, and a prospect not named Kreider for Richards, assuming he signs an extension.

  63. CCCP – Not today? Then don’t make disrespectful comments towards me. And please cease using my actual name on here. If you’d like to address me, I’m Tiki.

Anyone see that A’Mare block on Lebron last night to seal the game? What last night’s game tells me is that the Heat will not beat the Celtics in the playoffs. Maybe if Riley fired his good friend Spoelstra and took over the team himself, it’d be a different story, but that isn’t happening. Sloppy with the basketball ain’t gonna beat the Celtics.

  64. Doodie Machetto on

Even if there aren’t any blockbusters this year at the deadline, this has still be the most entertaining trade season since 2004 when there were multiple fire sales (including our own), although I enjoy this one better since it doesn’t involve a disgraceful trade of Brian Leetch.

  65. The truth is, nobody really knows….Everything may fall apart or come together at the very last moment. I’m glad I’ll be skiing all day, I don’t think I’ll be able to share the anxiety with you, sorry…. Having said that, where is Wicky? I thought he took a day off today. He was my real hope in terms of testing if something happens. Can I get a back up? :-)

  66. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

C3, all credit for that goes to Jim from Blueshirt Banter… he posted it last night. I thought it was funny and figured i’d use it

  67. Stranger Nation on

Oleo – is Richards being resigned by NYR a pre-condition of waiving NTC or an assumption? If yes, a big no on getting him. Look at the Gomez contract if anyone needs a refresher on why you do not want to get him and give long extensions to plus 30 age ‘head cases’

If Kings are willing to take ‘head’ cases, let’s pawn off Gabby and his salary for the next 3 years and have flexibility to take on ‘salary for talent’ deals over the summer.

  68. Doodie,

Yeah I am friends with Paul and Johnny as well. Have played a few rounds of golf with Paul and I still get no buybacks….should have left it as a whole in the wall…

  69. Tiki- I don’t think any player is above trading for the right price. AA is a solid player, but if he is going to be traded, then it has to be for a player who we can guarantee will be here for a couple of years and not just potentially walk away when the season is over. Richards is the better player (not worth the money he is being paid) but there is too much potential to lose out on the deal. If the Rangers had to trade AA for Stastny I would jump up and down and scream yes. These players are assets for either playing or trading. If they are traded, they need to bring something back that has a lasting impact. My issues are in regards to the questions around Richards and not the value of AA. If Richards was under contract for two or more years and wasn’t dealing with a concussion, then you trade AA without much of a second thought.

  70. Carp just gonna play devils advoate here-if crosby wanted to come to ny next season would you be 100% against it? I knnow theres a big difference between he and richards (besides the fact that brad can grow facial hair) but if Richards can be their top guy and help them win where do you draw the line during risk assessment?

  71. Doodie Machetto on

Homer, yeah, they’re good guys. But, I guess you do well in business by not really giving out freebies.

  72. The point is, I’m not thrilled with tearing up large pieces of the future for a guy who could be a casual bump away from long-term IR or even retirement, i.e. Lindros and LaFontaine. Crosby would add a much larger upside than Richards, wouldn’t he? Much, much, much, much better player and a lot, lot younger.

  73. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

As long as Dallas believes has chance to sign Richards longterm, price will remain at premium. Told Stars have not been informed otherwise

  74. DJK I tend to agree , tortz takes care of his “boys” richards coming over to the rangers today one way or another…just hoping we dont give up too much… as bad as what dallas had asked for im willing to give up artie just have to work on not giving up 1st round and a prospect……

  75. Doodie Machetto on

WTF is Atlanta thinking? Bergfors, although he has some attitude problems, is going to be a very good player. Dvorak is pretty washed up.

After getting pitiful returns on Stillman and McCabe, they finally got one right on Dvorak.

  76. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

true Carp, but crysby could also be one hit away after suffering this pretty serious concussion

  77. Casual observations:

Tony From AZ loves to discuss the refresh button. Refresh refresh refresh. Dudley understands his passion as his cant reload fast enough today.

Tiki likes to be called Tiki and only Tiki. Real names make Tiki angry. You wont like Tiki when Tiki is angry.

CCCP likes hockey but dislikes concussions. C3PO has proper respect for deadline day by avoiding encounters but no love for Sather despite a sterling trading record.

  78. James G – I don’t know when Crosby becomes a free agent, and it’d be a miracle if he leaves Pitts, let alone comes to NY. But if you have a chance to land Sidney – the best player in the NHL – you throw everything at him to lure him here including the kitchen sink.

  79. i make the trade anisimov, 1st and non premium prospect for richards if they can sign him to a 5 yr deal. AA good player but never will be Richards and is not richards yet……………

if they cannot sign him I pass….they will be in the same bidding war for his services and over pay in june, no thanks…

dallas is not resigning him they do not have the $$$$$$$$$$$$…

  80. Doodie Machetto on

stuart, they don’t have the money right now, but if they can get their ownership issues under wraps, they might. Buffalo got their new owner squared and they bought Brad Boyes within a week.

  81. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

    Jesse Spector NYDNRangers

On Penner as potential target should Richards talks not work out: Be sure to note that the #NYR interest would only be at a low price.

  82. This whole concussion discussion is way overblown. Hockey players and other athletes suffer concussions all the time. It DOES NOT mean that the next hit they take could be their last. For that matter, any hit could be any player’s last hit. I take Sidney Crosby with 1,000 concussions (he’d probably have brain damage at that point, haha) over any of our forwards without any concussions.

Obviously an exaggeration, but you get the point.

  83. A very wonderful good afternoon from the sunny Germany today !!!!!!

You guys have missed me or it is that you can sacrifice my presence ???????

  84. Doodie Machetto on

“For that matter, any hit could be any player’s last hit.”

    That is definitely true.

However, Tiki, after an initial concussion, it takes less force for future ones.

  85. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

NSH will make some noise today. Two needs, a top 6 forward and a defenceman. May only get 1 of 2. Talking to EDM about both (Hemsky/Smid).

  86. Stranger Nation

it doesnt have to be a pre-condition. If the Rangers trade for him, he will be resigned by the time training camp comes around. Now they might overpay a ton, but regardless if Richards gets traded here, he’s gonna be signed. This is New York after all.

  87. Another issue with Richards … how much more is he going to want to sign an extension. He’ll want a raise on that $7.8M.

  88. Shoryuken on Glen Sather on

In case anyone didn’t know, NHL Network is showing TSN’s TradeCentre show all day through the deadline.

  89. Lifts open at 9 local, Linda. It’s only 8:52 now. Mrs is getting ready, which means I have about 20 min. :-)

  90. Eddie Eddie Eddie on

Richard’s concussion is so worrisome, soon enough every player in the league will have one. In fact, I predict that a player’s concussion stat will be as familar as goals and assists.

  91. How is a 30+ year old guy coming to NY – a team that already has Henrik and Gaborik locked up long-term to big salaries – expect a raise on $7.8? If that’s the case, it’s ridiculous.

Gaborik was young when he signed his contract. Richards is on the downside of his career. He’s not a Crosby – best player in the NHL – or Ovechkin. And how would he expect us to compete with $21 million locked up with 3 players and RFA’s coming that will be expecting raises.

I’d think job security – more years – could knock the 7.8 million price tag down a bit. What do you think, Carp?

  92. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

Higgins still in play with broken thumb. Weiss and Booth unlikely to love. Fla too banged up. Market value may increase for both at draft.

  93. Shoryuken on Glen Sather on

Also, best wishes to Steve Zipay, who is dealing with a loss in his family today, sadly.

  94. Carp

that’s the biggest problem about Richards. I am all for giving him 7.81 mil a year for 2-3 years but if he wants more years than that, then giving him that much money is a huge risk.

The one thing the Rangers can do is front load the Carcillo out of the contract so in year 5, they can trade him to one of his friends where they can easily take on the cap hit but the money is low.

  95. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

Small typo…hahaha. I meant Weiss and Booth unlikely to move. Although, I’m sure there’s tons of love in Fla. :)

  96. Tiki – I agree… I think managed expectations and the desire to play for an original 6 team in NYC temper his longterm price down. Little nervous we are falling into the Drury/Gomez trap but am largely confident he’ll make a great addition to the squad and would love to see Stepan learning from him.

  97. I can talk to you about concussions all day. There are grades, severity, but most important part remains the rate of recovery. In short, it’s important, but not a deal breaker, Carp.

  98. Bayern..but FC Barcelona as well of course…two weeks ago I was with a friend at Old Trafford to see ManUtd-Man team an venue is Barcelona with Camp Nou 100 000 capacity…

I have travelled for the last 25 years for games around the world . I ve been to 17 of the 30 venues to the NHL but my last visit was in 2007 to Canada, and the second to last in 2003 with eight games in nine cities starting in Montreal, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Washington Philley and New Jersey and MSG….

And I ve been to all four Grand Slams in Tennis only once 1989 to Flushing Meadow when Boris won, twice to Wimbledon, twice to the Aussie Open and tree times to Roland Garros…

But truth to be told the last couple of years, I have lost a little bit of energy to do this any more in my mid 40th…:)

  99. agreed, but it’s a definite fear factor, especially if you give up a player, a No. 1 and a prospect, then sign him for five years and $40M plus.

  100. Doodie Machetto on

Healing from concussions is a totally individual thing. I haven’t seen anything indicating age as a factor.

  101. Carp- I recall Selanne and Kariya taking pay cuts to sign with the Avs but that was years and years ago.

  102. Last time in MSG was in 2003 when the Rangers beat the Islanders on a Monday nite game with 1-0 and the goal was scored by… ?????????????

    Come on you experts ???????????:)

  103. That potential long term contract worries me the most, Carp. He will not take a pay cut, nor he will go for 2-3 years.

  104. I dont think they wont be any trade today involving the Rangers today..They got Brian McCabe as a quarterback on the blue line for the powerplay and that was it….

Sather wont be as stupid as in the past to make short deal fix including young assets to get Richards, otherwise he should be grilled….

  105. Doodie, in general, infants sustain more pronounced trauma win the same impact. Geriatric population recovery is slow. Anything in between – all individual.

  106. Stranger Nation on

Per TSN: Kings out of the hunt for Richards (sorry if repost)

9:56 a.m.: An NHL source confirmed with Sporting News that the Los Angeles Kings are out of the hunt for Stars center Brad Richards. The pressure remains on GM Dean Lombardi, who has stockpiled young talent in Los Angeles, to make a significant addition today.

With Richards out of the equation, look for the Kings to continue talks with Edmonton about a possible deal for Ales Hemsky. According to the L.A. Times, the Kings are also interested in Florida Panthers forward David Booth.

  107. Doodie Machetto on

ilb, as with most things medical, infants and the elderly are exceptions to the general rules.

  108. Noah-tenko-rury, 28 on

If a Richards deal happens…well I am happy I’m not the LoHud webmaster because this thing may explode.

Also, trade deadline day must mean a lot of disposable income for Carp. $1.50 multiplied by a lot!

  109. latest trade from 10.38

TSN is reporting the Thrashers have acquired Radek Dvorak from the Panthers in exchange for Niclas Bergfors and Patrick Rissmiller.

  110. Brad Richards will be 32 years old. 32 years old is not in the “prime.” That’s at the end of one’s prime.

Im usually averse to making guarantees, but Richards ain’t making his $7.8 million next year.

And to answer your question, Carp. Lebron James took a pay cut and took significantly less money than he could have had. Something like $20 million with the Cavs and now $14 million with the Heat. And Lebron is actually in his prime.

  111. ilb – Richards may be forced to take a pay cut. A guy is worth only what a team is willing to pay him. There may be no teams that are willing to give him the money he has been accustomed to.

  112. Doodie Machetto on

Carp, you know how deadline days always work. There are a couple of big players that are holding up the process for everyone else. This year, it’s the Kings. Once the Kings make their move, I expect the floodgates to open.

  113. Richards is going to get a monster deal. Toronto and Montreal are both in the market for a center and this is possibly the worst free agent class i’ve seen in years.

  114. Carp- Kariya I believe just came off a deal where he was the highest paid athlete in the sport when he signed with the Avs and him and Selanne wanted to win the Cup- although the Avs were loaded that year it didn’t work out for them, though.

  115. ilb – Well, Im going on record (not that this matters) right now that Richards will not get 7.8 million per year in his next contract.

Yes, Carp, Lebron James took a pay cut. Lebron James took a pay cut. Yes, He made 20+ million last year. He makes $14 million or thereabouts this year.

  116. Yeah DJK, that was a giant dissapointment in Colorado with Selanne and Kariya. they never clicked like in Anaheim years before !!!!!!!

  117. Doodie Machetto on

eric, I agree. Hemsky or if that deal falls through, whomever the Kings target next.

I’d love to see them get some balls and really go for it, make a move similar to the Colorado- St. Louis move.

  118. Richards is the big domino, once he falls the rest will follow.
No reason for Slats to overpay now though, we should have the inside track on him on July 1st – Gilroy, Artie and a pick would be my absolute best offer

  119. Doodie Machetto on

Because there’s no guarantee he is there later. Dallas could get it’s ownership situation settled and resign him, or he could be moved to another team that signs him (even if they just trade for his rights in the offseason), or on July 1, some other team comes over the top and makes him an offer that beats the one he gets from the Rangers.

Richards to NY on 7/1 is by no means a done deal.

  120. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

well, someone i trust very much just asked what number he is going to wear as a Ranger, so i’d say its pretty much done

  121. I think BR gives us a discount. Similiar to the Hossa deal but not as long …

Hossa has a 5.275 cap hit and he signed the contract when he was 30. BR will be 31 on July 1st

  122. “@NYP_Brooksie: To those who have inquired, what I mean is that by asking for so much, Dallas making it easy for Rangers to say no.”

  123. if we want richards we have to get him now, by no means Artie is 2 much to ask for plus a pick… we have young core group right now which is great but its time we add some solid playmakers….

  124. we have to clear some 3.5 million to fit him in. there has to be more than AA moving off the roster, unless there is another deal going down

  125. Which teams would be able to accomodate him and sign him ?????

Which team is way under the current cap ??? and the question is if Richards want to play for big money for a lower team or does he want to compete for a Cup ?????

  126. I think its BR or stand pat.

I really would like to get Hemsky but I’m not willing to give up the type of package we would have to for him

  127. “Personally, I’d pass on Richards now and in July”

I tend to agree with that. I would put all our resources into going after a guy like Stastny who just turned 25 and is already a 3 time 70+ goal scorer and can only go up from here and we can definitely make some noise with a lineup like this:

  128. The guys from NHLlive will start their extended live coverage of today at 12 until to 4pm and from 6 to 8..maybe a good source to find it out…

  129. I hope richards stays in dallas. Enough of these over 30 players that will demand 7 mil per year, no thanks.

  130. Gilroy is $1.75m- that would clear a decent chunk, plus there is $1.4m in bonus to Prospal which can be pushed to next year if you add in Artie thats just over $4m extra cap space.

    wow – is slow today!

  131. Stranger Nation on

Leave Stepan at Center and move Artie to wing. Step has much upside in the middle and maybe best passer on team now.

  132. CCCP – Please check your FB messages. If you get back to me, I wont mention basketball on this blog ever again. Deal? :)

  133. anybody not willing to move AA should not be proposing us making a move for Stastny.

If a concussed, 30 yr old pending UFA, who is only willing to waive his NTC to come here costs us AA, and a pick and Prospect …

what do you think a signed 25 yr old Stastny would cost ?? WAY MORE

  134. Stranger Nation on

Vinny has looked slower than usual since coming back. in the game yesterday, he was striding to get back to the defensive zone when the ref was passing him…skating backwards.

  135. to get Stastny, I would think at a minimum we would need to give up Del Zotto, Grachev, Anisimov and a 1st rounder which I am certainly more than willing to do.

  136. IMO – Stastny is going to cost 2 good players , 2 or 3 picks (at least 1 1st rounder maybe 2) and a prospect or two. Its too much, the kid is good but you’d be giving up too much and the chance to replace via the draft whoever you might give up as part of the deal (because the Avs will want Dubi and/or Cally and/or Staal included they arent going to take Gilroy and Newbury or Grachev!)

  137. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

I really do not want to trade AA, nor stepan…I’d deal werek or someone not here yet

I do agree with oleo though, I DO NOT think richards is a rental!!

  138. Noah-tenko-rury, 28 on

Bring back Derek Morris just so I can say that Zack Morris’ dad is playing on the Rangers!

  139. I would trade Dubinsky in a deal for Stastny. Callahan and Staal are a different story.

Wolski played his best hockey in Colorado so maybe him, Anisimov, Grachev, Del Zotto and a 1st rounder is enough. I think that is a pretty competitive offer…

  140. Noah-tenko-rury, 28 on

Carp, can you give us a sign if a trade is imminent? Something like “HOOCHIE MAMA” perhaps?

  141. there’s no way Richards is rental for us, so it’s silly to use that in an argument for not bringing him in.

Also, in the people in the “just sign him in the offseason for money only” crowd have to take into consideration things like …

    1. an open Roster Spot forhim (so somebody’s gonna have to go)

    2. the 50 max contract rule (so somebody’s gonna have to go)

  142. im convinced that most of the people hear say that they dont want richards because they want to flip out when sather pulls the trigger….. well u cant have it both ways.. when we lose people flip out that the talent level just isnt there and blah blah blah… but now if we get a top forward in the league, people are complaining that we are going away from the rebuild… make up ur mind.. if ur ok with the rebuild stop flipping out about every loss.. and if u want more talent u should want richards… PUFF… PUFF…

  143. Matthias – You are awesome. Awesome! AWESOME! Ive always wanted to go to the 4 tennis grand slams! I love Roland Garros! Some day… Good luck to Barca and Bayern.

  144. Doodie Machetto on

Really, I’ve been consistent. I don’t want Richards. I think whatever contract we end up signing him to will make him the next Scott Gomez.

  145. Florida trades Dennis Wideman to Washington for Jake Hauswirth and a third-rounder.

Detroit close to signing Jimmy Howard to a contract extension.

  146. I am with Doodie – I think getting Richards would be a mistake in the long run.

The McCabe deal was really perfect so let’s just ride the fun of that one and laugh at him in his weirdo helmet that protects his jaw.

  147. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

I want richards, or some other top line guy.

  148. Brandon Webb – 2006 Cy Young Award Winner – 31 year old, coming off injury.

Made $8.5 million in 2010. Took a forced pay cut (because no team would pay him any more) and makes $3 million in 2011.

  149. Roland Garros show court tickets for 2011 already sold out :)
The event is to be played at the end of May beginning of June !!!!!

Tiki I have a whole room plastered with tickets from all around the world from a tennis event in Melbourne to a show spectacle in the Moulin Rouge of Paris or Cabaret event in Berlin or Sigfried and Roy in Las Vegas until to Cable car ticket to the Cocorvado in Rio de Janeiro :)

  150. I too would much rather make a move for stastny over richards. Both are great players but Stastny is signed for 5 years at 6.5 and is only 25 years old. Sure the asking price would be higher but Stastny is another great young player we can build around.

  151. Tiki – Brandon Webb took a one year contract because if he pitches to his potential he can probably sign for 15M or more in 2012. That was a methodical move for him.

  152. Mister Delaware on

“Really, I’ve been consistent. I don’t want Richards. I think whatever contract we end up signing him to will make him the next Scott Gomez.”

    ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

  153. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

are you still afraid of clowns???

  154. Matthias – That is awesome. I love tennis! Wow, that is so awesome! You sound like a really cool guy.

I know this isn’t as awesome, but i have every Rafa Nadal career French Open match on DVD.

  155. Manfried – That is fine and accurate. But the fact remains, no team would give him more than $3 million.

For the record, there were no stipulations on athletes taking a pay cut. Webb is a former Cy Young winner, 31 years old, having taken a pay cut.

  156. Carp, I dont know if you know about the fact that deliverer of bad news in former times would be decpitated :)

  157. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

oh, you are talking tennis…I though roland garros was a european porn star!

  158. Dallas will have to get a center in return, and that is why AA is a part of the deal. a 1st round pick is likely too. the prospect should be a mid level kid, not a topnotcher like Kreider. but that idiot Pierre McGuire was suggesting that McDonagh be the 3rd part of the deal, and that is outlandish. no way you trade McDonagh, who has shown recently that he is a topnotch young defenseman in this league

  159. Sure Sure…..I understand. But Webb had serious surgery and I think pitched 3 innings last year? So I am only saying – he probably could have signed a Randy Wolfe-esque 1 year at 9.5M contract and some team (NY Yankees) Would have taken that gamble. However, he chose one year at low money so he could re-negotiate.

I like Brandon Webb. Totally plan on drafting him to my fantasy team and taking a risk on him.

  160. Nik Zherdev. He made something like $4.5 million with the Rangers in 2008-2009. A 24 year old at the time. Couldnt get that much money elsewhere, signed in another country, then signed with the Flyers this year for $2 million. Pay cut.

  161. Noah-tenko-rury, 28 on

I think this line perfectly sums up trade deadline day…

    Serenity now…insanity later.

  162. staal? i would trade staal for staal!! in a second…i know the canes will never make that trade

seriously, if rangers could get a top player (kane, backstrom, staal type not some old UFA) i would trade staal asap. truthfully, mcdonagh will be better than him next sesason. already a better skater

  163. Roland Garros is amazing but No.1 for Tennis fans is Wimbledon..The year Boris retired I was in the queue for 6 of the first seven nights of the tournment, having a wake up call at 2 am in the morning making sure to have the full choice of any show ocurt ticket for the regular price…

  164. Get this guy in here … who cares if we have to give up AA … he’s amateur-hour anyways.

  165. the point i was trying to make doodie is that people cant have it both ways.. when we lose games people start flipping out about how we dont have the top level talent.. well if we get richards hes a top flite talent

  166. Stastny may be 25 yrs old but has had 2 injury plagued out of 5 seasons so far

Richards has had 1 shortened season in 08-09 and then this year out of 10 seasons

  167. Mister Delaware on

Could we add the “in demand” modifier to the “no one takes a paycut” so we’re saying “no one in demand takes a paycut”? Because Webb wasn’t in demand. He got his mutual 1 year deal after pitching only 4 innings and pitched no innings. Even the $3MM was seen as an overpay in the industry since reports had him maxing in the mid 80s and comparable high-risk, mid-reward starting pitchers are getting mostly minor league deals with spring invites. Webb’s likely done. Zherdev … we all know the case there. Not in demand. Richards will be in demand.

  168. Richards is a horse.

A horse Tortorella knows how to ride.

If we don’t get him because we don’t want to give up AA, I’m going ballistic.

  169. Richards also plays the point on the PP, Stastny does not. Richards has a cup, with Torts no less. those are 2 important factors.

  170. If I were Sather, I wouldn’t give up…Dubi, Cally, Stepan, Staal, Sauer, McDonaugh, AA, Prust…Leave the core alone.
Build a winner that competes for a long time…

  171. Calgary claims Brett Carson on waivers.

Ottawa claims Curtis McIlhenney on waivers.

Atlanta claims Rob Scrempf on waivers (apologize for any spelling errors).

  172. I Wonder if NYI would take Boogaard (as a salary dump for Richards) plus a decent pick for Konopka ??

He basically offers the same thing except his faceoff ability is out of this world !! He would be the perfect 4th line center if we move AA for Richards

    – Richards –
    – Stepan –
    – Boyle –
    – Konopka –

  173. Of course Wimbledon is the best!

In Match Play golf, 2 guys faced each other named JB Holmes and Bubba Watson. Get it?

  174. Doodie Machetto on

    “Richards is a horse.

A horse Tortorella knows how to ride.”

That sounds a little….. not that there’s anything wrong with that!

  175. I agree with the Rodent … who keeps on writing that Lundy is approaching 31 … he’s not that young anymore.

We need to shore this up.

The East is so weak this year.

  176. he does not enter the room, he just opens his mouth and puts his son in a bad position with his teammates.

  177. Frank: Doctor gave me a relaxation cassette. When my blood pressure gets too high, the man on the tape tells me to say, ‘Serenity now!’

George: Are you supposed to yell it?

messier would just kick old man stastnys butt!!

  179. Gabby just turned 29 last month and Hank turns 29 tomorrow. we got plenty of good years left out of them, but contention this year or next should be KEy

  180. Yeah, I got the age incorrect .. the point is that he’s not exactly “young”

We have enough talent in the pool now that we should be able to get rid of some of the boys and acquire Richards.

  181. Doodie Machetto on

29 is pretty young for a goaltender. Most of the top guys reach 35 before there is a noticeable decline.

  182. Noah-tenko-rury-aal-aborik, 28 on

Enough with the negativity on Henrik already. 29 in goalie years is still very much prime. He also keeps himself in such good shape that he will be around for quiet a while.

  183. Doodie Machetto on

Miami, the East is definitely NOT bush league. The three teams at the top are all really good teams, especially the Flyers, whom we are yet to beat this season.

    We also haven’t beaten Tampa.

  185. Funny how perceptions of age are totally distorted in sports.

    “He’s 31? That’s so OLD! Get him a wheelchair!”

  186. TSN coverage is so 6 canadian team centered that it is useless. and there are so few trades that they now are talking about last year.

  200. Again, awesome Matthias. I wouldn’t expect Roger to be any different.

I now take it from the lack of response that Carp agrees that it is *possible* that Richards could willingly or could be forced to take a pay cut.

Happy Birthday, wicky! Hope Sather gives you everything you want for your special day. How about a CREASE CLEARING DMAN!

  201. yeah, but that is usually semantics. the player can say that because his agent has talked to the GM , not him.

  202. Nobody got the JB Holmes and Bubba Watson golf match play thing.

  212. Carp, thanks for that latest link. With about two hours to go before the deadline, Richard’s comments are a pretty good indication that there’s a small chance of him being moved. I would think Nieuwendyk would give Richards some time (a day?) to consider making an important move like this.

  213. staal at practice is the best news of the day. also fedetenko.. fed’s is a very good 3rd or 4th line guy. if not hurt he is a 15 goal guy not bad for 3rd or 4th line and good on D…

  217. do not see the love for hemsky at $4.1 mill. he is a difference maker!!!!!!!!

penner has never reached any of his potential.

  218. The thing with Richards, he’s going to need some time to decide whether to waive the NTC, and also to negotiate an extension if the Stars hope to get back major pieces.

Or would the Rangers really do a deal without the extension? Rent him at anything close to that cost in terms of players, picks, prospects?

  219. Okay – I really haven’t been involved here for quite a while – trade day brings me back – I’ve missed the antics

  220. I sent Orr to loyalty school, where he is catching up on the history of New York and the history of New York sports. He will come back a new man, a fan of all New York teams, even the Red Bull and Liberty. ;-)

  221. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

so richards not on team flight with dallas?

I thought sure orr would be here to give us a hottie update from the awards show!!

  222. Dreger Tweets Rangers acquire Christian Backman for a fourth round pick….take it for what it is, just a rumor….

  223. If Richards is skating in Dallas today, no way he’s being traded today.
Nothing is going to happen for our Rangers today.
BUT, keep posting, Carp needs the money.

  224. Tony – Carp is making so much money today he might sell this whole outfit for a cool Billion and then make a “Social Network” style movie about his experiences.

  225. Thanks for the welcome back! I, also, am not expecting Richards. Has there been any talk of how much Torts is going to be fined for his (justified) comments on the league??

  226. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

ok tornado warning downgraded to severe thunderstorm warning… as if that’s a big difference down here lol

  227. Czechthemout!!! on

    Arm chair gm time!

Dallas can keep Richards for what they are asking. There is no way I would move AA in any deal for Richards! Gilroy, Weise and a conditional #1 .

Would move AA in a deal for Stasny in a heartbeat.
AA,Mdz,#1 for Stasny and Ryan O’reilly.

Would also move AA, Gilroy and a #2 for Spezza and Peter Regan.

  228. ORR – I haven’t slept well in 10 months (my son being the reason – and the same reason I’ve been MIA on this site)

  229. From :
Dallas Stars center Brad Richards said he woke up Monday morning and went to work at the team’s practice site in Frisco, Texas, the same way he would if it were any other day, as he continues his rehabilitation from a concussion. And the plan Tuesday is to do the same thing.

  230. anybody got a link to Torts’ comments last night? I missed them while out with Fozzy Posse…..

  231. No sir, Matthias. bring the veal, bring the beef, bring the pork, bring the chicken, bring the lamb, bring the bison, bring the caribou.

  232. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

didn’t miss much it was all bleeps

  233. Mama, Rangers Report had the whole transcript. Are you familiar with that site?

Seriously, Jesse Spector had the somewhat-edited/bleeped video on his blog.

  234. Nice, Doodie – that makes more sense

Eric – whether my son is sleeping or not, now that he’s in my life, there’s just no such thing as deep sleep for me, anymore – welcome to parenthood =)

  235. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

lmao carp, nothing like that weather radio going off at all hours of the day and night!

  236. Carp if you owned the Rangers I think a lot of people in here would be asking for a lot of favors….

  237. Carp, LMAO!!!! I didn’t think to go back to last night’s post game wrap….duh!!! Obviously in need of second cup of coffee :)

  238. Yeah, Man, get in the back of the line! Lin, I think I may have a concussion cause this session is turning out like carcillo :) morning tikii…..

  239. Carp you should take the money from today and buy yourself a nice Armani suit..actually I have an extra one- you can have it!

  240. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

    lol… you’re untradeable then!

oh great, i should be losing the tv soon

weather radio and outside alarms going off… emergency broadcast should be breaking into tv any second now… NOT NOW DAMNIT! FREAKIN MOTHER NATURE!!

  241. Boom Boom Bathgate on

    This just off the wire…

Allan Stanley and Nick Mikoski to Chicago for Bill Gadsby and Pete Conacher.

  242. If Carp owned the Rangers, Marc Staal and Henrik Lundqvist would be traded to the Bruins for a 4th and 5th rounder and whatever other 3rd and 4th liners help match up in salary ;)

  243. Thanks for pointing me to Spector’s blog, Carp – I just watched the video – I love Torts’ fire – I think he should write something in the memo portion of his check to the NHL – “Eat Carcillo” maybe

  244. torts should be fined for saying the truth about the officiating yesterday. the girardi phantom call, classic zebras think the game is about them……….

  245. Duhatschek is a moron. Crawford has been very good in goal

    22-12-3 …… .923 save % ……….. 2.13 gaa

  246. ORR – Maybe that is just someone who shares the same last name as McCabe. Maybe it’s a coincidence. Hold out hope..

  247. In the immortal words of Mr. Peter Gibbons:

“I did nothing. I did absolutely nothing. And it was everything I dreamed it could be.”

  248. Chris, LOL! Seriously, is it just me, cause I don’t get why last night’s comments were any different from other times…..and a lot of the penalties were for carcillo, especially the ridiculous call on Dubi. Greg Louganis never made such a perfect dive!!!!

  249. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

    TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie
The Brad Richards Trade Barometer is leaning towards him NOT being moved, but about 90 minutes to go. We will see.

  250. LOL – Manfried

Olga – I’ve actually been pretty pleased with Sather’s moves since the season began – in fact, even in the offseason, the only real blunder was Boogaard – granted, the man hasn’t set the bar very high, so that could be it, too

  251. Doodie Machetto on

2-1, the earlier you make the deadline, the less trades there will be. Too many teams still in contention that don’t want to sell because they are holding out hope for a playoff appearance.

  252. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

lmao laurel, you’d go freakin crazy down here. I’m about at the end of my rope lol

they just extended it until 7 pm. Now i’m stuck in the house all damned day cuz i won’t go out under a tornado watch!

  253. i just want EC traded anywhere for anything. I bet Phoenix will take him for nothing. They traded Upshall, so they need a forward

  254. I’m so glad that I didn’t decide to take off today!!! It’s a slow day at work and this trade deadline sucks!!!

  255. Lets be honest boneheads guys and worshippers of the Rangers :

What is more important to the world, either the Rangers getting Brad Richards ore me enjoying my four course dinner on Saturday night ????:)

I probably dont need to evaluate that :)

  256. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

Ha, I remember those…best part practice cancelled due to lightning!

  257. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

i usually do crazy stuff like that, but this is pretty bad. it’s raining out but it’s barely hitting the ground and the wind is out of control. This is probably the 2nd scariest since we’ve been here, with the potential to be number one. Poor Dixie Avery Shaffer, she’s in her hiding spot now

  258. dont worry all sather will call don maloney in phx and they will have another deal done in about an hour.

    gilroy for korpikowski

  259. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

ok sideways rain is now hitting the ground!

ANNOUNCE SOMETHING before i lose power!! lol

  260. Hey Carp,
Since the deadline isn’t exciting, what else do you have up your sleeve for today? Comedy? Singing? Ventriloquists?

  261. TSN’s Bob McKenzie says the Panthers and Hurricanes are close to swapping Bryan Allen and Sergei Samsonov

  262. My favorite part about Rangers “fans” is how they care that Mark Messier was credited with the Stanley Cup winning goal and many think he should not have been. Instead of being excited that a legend, an icon, got credited with it, theyr’e upset :)

  263. Noah-tenko-rury-aal-aborik, 28 on

To be fair, Mess didn’t come CLOSE to touching that puck on that GWG.

I wonder how mad Brian Noonan was at that.

  264. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

OMFGs…we traded chris simon to calgary, dumb move, very dumb move!!! A serious tough guy with serious regular shift playing skills as well!!

  265. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

lmao Spider! Easily make up 4 hours of pay by NOT taking a lunch hour for the rest of the week!! Go in half an hour earlier, make up another 2 hours for a total of 6..i got it all figured out lol

  266. Remember Two Things on

    Penner would be an upgrade.

Need some addition be subtraction as the reason we looked so slooooooow against the Kings and Bolts to name a few is because when we don’t hit we cannot skate with teams. So those who do not hit or score (EC, Vinny, WW) are expendable.

  267. Man this trade deadline sure is relatively quiet. Its a good thing too because I have an exam in 2 hours and studying for it is much easier with the lack of activity here

  268. Doodie Machetto on

Campoli, depending on the return, could be a good move for the Blackhawks. Maybe even one the Rangers should have pursued instead of McCabe.

  269. Staal Wart says...keep the kids!!! on

I will gladly take a slow trade deadline day for the Rangers.
Go Sather!… stick to the youth movement!!!

  270. Who wouldnt want the legend, the icon, the leader, the hero, to be credited with the Stanley Cup winning goal.

It only adds to his legend. That’s a good thing.

  271. Only 5 trades total made today. This last hour will be intense and remember deals can be reported after 3pm!

  272. allen for samsonov good moove for carolina. grit and toughness for a dancer. carolina has many dancers with skill

  273. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

    Bob McKenzie

STL trades Brad Winchester to ANA for a 3rd round pick.

  274. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

i bet we get glencross from calgary!!

  275. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

lmao i just saw that before Wicky, isnt he about 100, and didnt he nearly kill drury??

  276. I wouldn’t care about WHO scored a goal – Hockey is more of a team sport. If it was baseball and you didn’t know who hit the home run then I can see being upset. In Hockey all 5 guys play a part in every goal.

  277. He looks selfish because the official scorers credited him? That’s a new one. I needed that laugh.

This is Rangers fans, ladies and gents, upset that the greatest hockey player and leader that ever lived was credited…

  278. Noah-tenko-rury-aal-aborik, 28 on

I was hoping Penner would be a possibility if Richards didn’t happen. Oh well.

  279. Noah-tenko-rury-aal-aborik, 28 on

    (From ESPN)

Sarah Goldstein: The Penner trade to Montreal did not happen. A fake twitter account reported this.

  280. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

    penner fake

I think its arnott to the pens

  281. Shoryuken on Glen Sather on

A lot of hype, and very boring thus far. Is this the trade deadline or the NFL Draft?

I don’t mind the Rangers standing pat, but I was hoping another team might do something big/interesting/insane.

  282. Noah-tenko-rury-aal-aborik, 28 on

What does I-Bob have to say? His tweets are protected (maybe because he’s incarcerated?).

  283. Well, I’m refueled for the final push – Tuna Salad sub – maybe I’ll actually get some work done today after 3.

  284. Shoryuken on Glen Sather on

Orr, that is the best transcript of the Final Countdown beat I have ever seen haha. Pat on the back for you.

  285. “all quiet on ranger front”

What is this? Hemingway on Hockey? I love it.

  286. prime time at 8.15 over here..

Tiki TV crisis discussion around Bayern after that devastating loss against league leaders Borussia on home soil…

Its more important than the retirement of German chanellor:)

Do you heard about Paul Breitner…?????

  287. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

    NYDNRangers Jesse Spector
Source tells @nydailynews the NHL trade landscape “dead” 40 minutes before deadline — updated blo

  288. Sounds like Carp is taking his 20-minute nap before the trade deadline – that way he’ll be awake for the next 3 hours before he needs another 20 minutes of sleep.

  289. Shoryuken on Glen Sather on

    Matthias, what happened with Breitner?

Did someone forget to tell the GMs that today is deadline day?

  290. @capgeek

#nhl #blackhawks down to about $422k in cap space after adding Chris Campoli

Wow – talk about cutting it close

  291. Staal Wart says...keep the kids!!! on

This is shaping up to be a great day for Ranger fans!
    knock on wood…

  292. I always confuse that with Farewell to Arms. Boy would my father be upset with me right now….

  293. Breitner is now working as a consultant for Bayern..but Bayern is now in a crisis, they have lost to Borussia and trailing now by 16 points in the league…which is almost incredible…

But they dont have a kind of deadline day in the Bundesliga…thats the problem :)

  294. So the Kings are out of the Richards sweeps. So does Sather put the hammer down? That’s a lot for Penner. Does Nieuwendyk want that much or more for Richards?

  295. so,
    alarm goes off around 9
    stay in bed
    and check twitter on blackberry
    every so often
    today, i love technology!

  296. NYP_Brooksie Larry Brooks
Told that Richards remains in play, unsure of whether Dallas is keeping him. Rangers only option.

  297. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

Told that Richards remains in play, unsure of whether Dallas is keeping him. Rangers only option

  298. Carp, I’m glad you said it – not sure why so much for Penner, even with another season left on his contract

  299. Brooksie:

Told that Richards remains in play, unsure of whether Dallas is keeping him. Rangers only option.

  300. Big trade per TSN.

Dallas Stars trade Brad Richards and Robidas to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Kris Letang, Max Talbot, Mark Letestu, a 1st Round Pick, and a Conditional Pick

  301. theubert big dissapointment fo rthe kings and hickey have not made the next step yet.

kings got a big youngguy for a 1st and 1st who looks like a big dissapointment and a 3rd…

richards for a 1st, a 3rd, and a second tier player, none AA etc….only if he signs for 5 years at $6mill or less..

  302. Hopefully we won’t pony up too much because Dallas is under quite a deadline and really in a corner right now. We can make a low-ball respectable offer and that should be that.

  303. Meanwhile if Richards decides to go to the bathroom and leaves his cell phone dowbnstairs they can’t reach him about it anyway. I think at this point Dallas has kept him whether they think that or not.

  304. Staal Wart says...keep the kids!!! on

Torts is probably in Sathers office now, pounding on his desk….
    “Keep the *&^%($#kids!
    Don’t give up @#$%!
    Don’t take that horse@#$%phone call!”

  305. Slats is just finishing his 5th piece of cake, stuffing it in his piehole. he now will begin to shake off the comatose state and start to evaluate his options, which are another cake or Brad Richards. Right now the cake is winning. let them eat cake

  306. Big trade per TSN.

Dallas Stars trade Brad Richards and Robidas to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Kris Letang, Max Talbot, Mark Letestu, a 1st Round Pick, and a Conditional Pick

That is so off base it barely merits a reposnse. The Pens would not give up Letang and/or Letstu for anything, much less Robidas and a concussion dude. FWIW, Letang=MONSTER.

  307. LinCalPrustBoylahan on

lmao Stranger, is it white or black smoke?? they could be electing a new pope ya know lol

After all I’ve been told, cannot imagine Richards would balk at waiving no trade to NY

  310. Stranger Nation on

Hopefully slats is smoking pineapple express and doesnt remember how ro work the phones.

  311. Noah-tenko-rury-aal-aborik, 28 on

If the asking price is AA, a pick, and a non-first tier prospect, please pull the trigger. I like new toys!

  312. stuart – he’s young, big, and only in his second year – I think he’s got potential to grow into a strong second line center – I know that’s what Torts sees in him – oh, and you can tell he’s always trying to shoot the puck – he just needs to learn some more patience – let’s not forget he’s good defensively – just an all-around good young player

  313. Am I the only one surprised that Vokoun hasn’t moved?

What is this “stunner” regarding the Pens?

  314. Rangers acquire Jason Strudwick, Paul Mara, jason Krog, Marcel Hossa, and a conditional guitar pick for Willie Huber and Stan Fischler

  315. Doodie Machetto on

Manfried, Vokoun isn’t going anywhere because there’s no market for him. No playoff teams need goaltending.

  316. Doodie Machetto on

“I was wrong, the guy in the McCabe jersey is a mannequin”

That’s not a nice thing to say about our new PP QB.

  317. Don’t think Slats will be able to rip off Stars for Richards. Nieuwendyk went to Cornell, ever heard of it?

  318. THANKS ON THE ANISIMOV EVAL. NEVER BE A RICHARDS but to me he is a good player who will get stronger and is responsible on d……….

  319. Doodie – I honestly thought the Caps might pick him up as a safety plan for their playoff run. Try to break that 1st round curse.

  320. Real_ESPNLeBrun Pierre LeBrun
Pat Morris, Richards’ agent, confirms no trade and that Stars didn’t ask them to waive NMC

  321. TReedDispatch Thomas Reed
