Good review in the previous post, Carp. Pay good attention to #6 ‘heads, we need to get in. I’m not convinced Tampa will be that formidable come the playoffs. I can see Torts adjusting to them overloading one side in the D-zone easily during the POs, it may actually backfire. Not sure their defense is good enough to withstand well organized forecheck. They have a good coach, but his PO experience is zip.

And if Slats gives up anything close to the above mentioned package, I’ll be joining Olga’s plan on his future right away. That package( and, probably more) would be acceptable for Statsny, but not for Richards.

I don’t think that’s so much a ridiculous play as it just went the wrong way. Ever notice how there are no Rangers near the slot when someone is behind the net or they are never in a scoring position on the crease? Maybe Tampa watched some tape!

From last post about hank’s puck handling skills, the worst I have seen handling the puck was Richter. They could have used Healy in net who was one of the best out of his crease and could rifle the puck with best of them (fatty from NJ included). But Ricky’s puck stopping skills were vastly superior and a banner hangs from the rafter as proof.
I always thought the same about Ricky’s game – why can’t they teach him how to play the puck behind the net. My guess is he tried and for whatever reason could not master the skill.
The challenge for Hank is he is the highest paid goalie in the league in which the difference in overall skill level can be overshadowed with a hot streak in the POs. That being said, the philth and the bolts cannot feel good about their net minders now.
Notice the rangers are blocking less shots these days (or so it seems). While they are not afraid to take it for the team, but the result many times is a deflected puck changing angles on way to net. Better to tie up your man or clear the front, then to play goalie.
We are doing well, Linda, thanks. Mrs has already planned our dinners for the whole week. Before doing that she asked me which nights I have a game to watch. Love my wife. Of course, I told her I could watch after dinner.

If you watch the play with girardi the big problem was the bolts were not pressuring the puck and were tying up men in front. If he continued to skate around the net and picked his head up, he would have been better off finding an open man, rather that firing a blind pass that actually hit off the side of the goal and carromed through the crease, out in front, leading to odd man rush.
Rangers score 1 goal, but they lost because of Hank? Girardi is not a 1st pair Dman. With McCabe here, he should be in 3rd pairing with Auntie Em or Gilly. This will create more balance on the back line and prevent staal from logging 30 mins a game.

Carp, I agree totally with your assessment of trading for concussed players!!! It just doesn’t lend itself to a long time relationship. I’d hate to lose Arte because I like his upside, but you have to give to get. I do disagree with you on Hank. Whereas, Torts does a lot of “calling out” Hank on certain goals, Keenanesque!!! But he has be so inconsistent this year. He plays great a game or two then gives up 3 goals, one being a softie. And as hard as this team plays to the end, they rarely get that tying goal after that 3rd period, gut wrenching opponents’ goal. I DVR’d the game and after Vinny’s goal, I fast forwarded it to the end because I didn’t have the confidence they would tie it up!!! I hate feeling that way but we need a finisher!!! DJK- Stepan and AA are projected to be 1-2 centers for the team for years to come. If you get Richards, you keep them both, one slides on the wing. If they get Stastny ( doubtful ), one of them can be moved in the deal. And, yes, in that case, I’d keep Stepan too.

As far as what you’ve said- yes, most of us agree on it. Why give up anything at all? Having said that, if we can get him now for some picks, it’s not a bad thing to have. He may help the team to get into the playoffs, it’s not a done deal yet. And he may help them, perhaps, go deeper than one round. This could be an invaluable experience for our young core.

I’ll be honest…. I have no problem trusting Sather on deadline day. I believe Torts has his ear to some extent and getting McCabe for a 3rd and Kennedy was slick. On that topic, I loved McCabe’s genuine excitement to be joining our squad.
AA is a good player with big upside… that being said, i have no problem losing him for Richards. I would however draw the line with that being as “generous” as we get. There is no situation where I want to lose a Stepan, McD, or MZA.

As i’ve been saying for months now, Anisimov has always been expendable as he is never going to be an all-star caliber player. The concussion doesn’t worry me at all, nor does the “risk” of him not signing here.

Fyi, I was at the game yesterday and anyone who watched ought to know the interference penalty on Dubi was as false as you could possibly get. I’d hate to be that ref cuz the entire Garden erupted in boo’s after the replay was shown on the monitor. It was clear as day that Dubi had nothing to do with that guy falling down. He intentionally fell down to draw a penalty. Cheap move if you ask me.
As far as Hank goes, I’d start lookin to draft a goalie in the next couple years. Hank’s numbers have been getting progressively worse since his rookie season. As someone pointed out, he’s too inconsistant. I understand the Bolts have a lot of talent on that roster but c’mon now, they had Roloson between the pipes! This was their game to lose and that 5-3 ended up costing them the game.

Tiki- I don’t think any player is above trading for the right price. AA is a solid player, but if he is going to be traded, then it has to be for a player who we can guarantee will be here for a couple of years and not just potentially walk away when the season is over. Richards is the better player (not worth the money he is being paid) but there is too much potential to lose out on the deal. If the Rangers had to trade AA for Stastny I would jump up and down and scream yes. These players are assets for either playing or trading. If they are traded, they need to bring something back that has a lasting impact. My issues are in regards to the questions around Richards and not the value of AA. If Richards was under contract for two or more years and wasn’t dealing with a concussion, then you trade AA without much of a second thought.

The point is, I’m not thrilled with tearing up large pieces of the future for a guy who could be a casual bump away from long-term IR or even retirement, i.e. Lindros and LaFontaine. This whole concussion discussion is way overblown. Hockey players and other athletes suffer concussions all the time. It DOES NOT mean that the next hit they take could be their last. For that matter, any hit could be any player’s last hit. I take Sidney Crosby with 1,000 concussions (he’d probably have brain damage at that point, haha) over any of our forwards without any concussions.
Obviously an exaggeration, but you get the point.

How is a 30+ year old guy coming to NY – a team that already has Henrik and Gaborik locked up long-term to big salaries – expect a raise on $7.8? If that’s the case, it’s ridiculous.
Gaborik was young when he signed his contract. Richards is on the downside of his career. He’s not a Crosby – best player in the NHL – or Ovechkin. And how would he expect us to compete with $21 million locked up with 3 players and RFA’s coming that will be expecting raises.
I’d think job security – more years – could knock the 7.8 million price tag down a bit. What do you think, Carp?

that’s the biggest problem about Richards. I am all for giving him 7.81 mil a year for 2-3 years but if he wants more years than that, then giving him that much money is a huge risk.
The one thing the Rangers can do is front load the Carcillo out of the contract so in year 5, they can trade him to one of his friends where they can easily take on the cap hit but the money is low.

With Richards out of the equation, look for the Kings to continue talks with Edmonton about a possible deal for Ales Hemsky. According to the L.A. Times, the Kings are also interested in Florida Panthers forward David Booth.

Because there’s no guarantee he is there later. Dallas could get it’s ownership situation settled and resign him, or he could be moved to another team that signs him (even if they just trade for his rights in the offseason), or on July 1, some other team comes over the top and makes him an offer that beats the one he gets from the Rangers.

I too would much rather make a move for stastny over richards. Both are great players but Stastny is signed for 5 years at 6.5 and is only 25 years old. Sure the asking price would be higher but Stastny is another great young player we can build around.
