You’re on your own

I’ve got some plans tonight, and it’s going to take more than a Rangers trade for me to break them … so you’re on your own tonight. If anything happens, I trust youse guys will monitor it and discuss it in the comments until I get back.

In the meantime, here’s the official announcement of the McCabe-Kennedy deal, from the Rangers:

RANGERS ACQUIRE DEFENSEMAN BRYAN MCCABE
New York sends Tim Kennedy and a third round draft pick to Florida

New York, February 26, 2011 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Bryan McCabe from the Florida Panthers in exchange for forward Tim Kennedy and a third round draft pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

“Bryan McCabe adds an established veteran presence to our young defensive corps,” stated Sather.  “He can help provide offense with his strong shot on the power play, and his versatility allows him to play either the left or right side effectively.  Bryan also brings outstanding leadership qualities, having served as team captain for Florida for the past two seasons.”

McCabe, 35, has eclipsed the 40-point plateau five times, including three seasons of 50 or more points, and was named to the NHL Second All-Star Team in 2004.  The 15-year NHL veteran skated in his 1,000th career game on November 6, 2009 vs. Washington, and was named Florida’s captain on September 23, 2009.

McCabe has registered five goals and 17 assists for 22 points, along with 28 penalty minutes in 48 games with Florida this season.  He ranked third on the Panthers in assists, and ranked second among all Florida defensemen in points and tied for second in goals.  He was also tied for third on the team with five power play assists, and fourth with seven power play points and a plus-three rating.  McCabe tied a career-high and established a Panthers’ franchise record for defensemen with four assists on October 16 vs. Tampa Bay.  He also posted a season-high, five-game scoring streak from December 15 vs. Carolina to December 23 at Buffalo, registering six points (three goals, three assists) over the span.

The 6-2, 223-pounder enjoyed his most productive season in 2005-06 with the Toronto Maple Leafs, establishing career-highs with 19 goals, 49 assists and 68 points in 73 games.  He also set career marks with 13 power play goals, 32 power play assists, 45 power play points, and six game-winning goals.  McCabe ranked third among NHL defensemen in points and goals, and sixth in assists.  He was named the NHL’s Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending November 19, 2005, registering seven points (three goals, four assists) in three games.

The St. Catharines, Ontario native has skated in 1,116 career regular season games with the New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Florida Panthers, registering 143 goals and 379 assists for 522 points, along with 1,726 penalty minutes and a plus-35 rating.  As a rookie with the Islanders in 1995-96, McCabe registered seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points, along with 156 penalty minutes in 82 games.  He made his NHL debut on October 7, 1995 at Boston, and recorded his first NHL point with a goal on October 31, 1995 at Florida.  McCabe has also skated in 51 career playoff contests with Toronto, registering 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points, along with 70 penalty minutes and a plus-six rating.

Internationally, McCabe has won four gold medals as a member of Team Canada, including the 1997 World Championship in Finland.  McCabe was also selected to represent Canada at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy, registering 18 penalty minutes in six tournament contests.

McCabe was originally selected as the New York Islanders’ second round choice, 40th overall, in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.

Kennedy, 24, has registered 12 goals and 30 assists for 42 points, along with 44 penalty minutes in 53 games with the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League (AHL) this season.  He signed with the Rangers as a free agent on August 30, 2010.

  1. TSN is reporting that Carp is busy tonight. Bob McKenzie tweets that Carp is going out, but the destination is still pending league approval.

  2. Funny tweet from Bob McKenzie

@TSNBobMcKenzie sorry for not reporting these trades first. I’m having a lengthy discussion with Broduer over dinner. We don’t know whether to cook the cow, or eat it raw. Think I’ll start with the udder.

    So unprofessional!

  3. Tallon was in a tough spot with the trade and i think he got the most he could for McCabe considering he had a NTC and was only gonna waive it for the Rangers.. Tallon had no leverage it was this deal or nothing

  4. The Habs got Nigel Dawes from ATL? Who knew the Thrashers had Dawes?

I do not think trading for Brad Richards and giving up any young assets will make this team better, and then have to sign him for $5 million or more per season.

I would rather have Step, AA, Boyle, Dubi and Kreider develop as Rangers.

It’s too late in the season for a guy like Richards, who will expect ice time and attention. He hasn’t deserved that as a Ranger. Step, Boyle, Cally, AA, Prust, Gabby, McD, Hank and Staal deserve the attention, deserve the chance to do with this team as they have all season without having to hire a Brad Richards for a couple months.

You wanna bring him in the offseason that’s a different story, but not now.

We have Prospal, we have Feds, we have Hank and now McCabe, we have our vets… let the team develop without having to bring in a hired gun.

McCabe plays a role. He’s a guy the team hasn’t had all season on defense. Brings some missing snarl to the back line. Richards would hurt the chemistry the way McCabe won’t.

  5. Tallon to Sather: “you think youre better than me? taking my captain with your macho head games!?”

  6. iDoodie machetto on

Keep an eye on the capitals. Varlamov Was supposed to start tonight but left the arena after warmups. Maybe he’s close to being traded

  7. Trading for Richards makes absolutely no sense to me. You can get him for cash only in the off season and not have to give up anything.

The Rangers aren’t Cup contenders, although I have hopes they can make the playoffs and perhaps take a first round series.

Just hope Slats and Torts aren’t so in love with the guy that they do something stupid.

  8. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

here is the thing that is killing me with all these trade proposals that everyone is concocting for richards…dollars folks, dollars. We are including all of these guys that have smaller contracts……I think with the mccabe deal we need to clear about 4 or 5 mil to get him. So, I would think someone that makes 3 or so mil will have to be in the deal right?

I’m just guessing here, but one of you capologists might want to take a look at this.

what if boogey goes on LTIR?

  9. True Blue Mike on

I could see this deal happening easily: Anisimov, Gilroy, Grachev and 1st rounder for Richards. I know its a lot but maybe its worth it? What do you guys thinks? im just assuming it would take that kind of trade to obtain Richards.

  10. CapeBretonRangerFan on

Richards is playing for Dallas, a team scrambling to make the playoffs, as we are. How could they possibly justify giving up on their season by trading him? This just does not happen, especially in a place where hockey is second fiddle to a handful of other sports. Dallas will not alienate what few fans they already have. Plus, the guy has a concussion. He’s going nowhere.

  11. Capebreton. They’re trying to re-sign him, but it hasn’t worked out. So, they could run the risk of keeping him, failing or succeeding at winning the Cup, and lose him for nothing.

Or, they could trade him, get valuable players, prospect and/or picks, and still have a shot at making the playoffs, and potentially going deep.

    I’d trade him, personally.

  12. CapeBretonRangerFan on

Orr, I suppose they may have no choice but to get whatever they can for him. I’d just hate to get rid of 2-3 good young players for a rental player who may not resign.

  13. True Blue Mike

That sounds about right and if Richards signs a friendly deal then it might be worth it. Anisimov is a good young player but he’ll never be at the level Richards is at now…

  14. Good evening all! Phew! Gilroy safe for now at least. It is Tuesday yet, please!!!???
Had a fine time with the Fozzy Posse this afternoon. Got myself on a neon Times Square billboard 3 times, and that is no lie. All messages included LGR!! Was soooooo cool.

Here’s hoping Tampa gets kicked in the bay tomorrow….

  15. True Blue Mike on

If i was Dallas i would trade Richards for as many 1st rounders and great prospects (kreideresque) as possible

  16. Good evening, Mama. How did you get yourself on the billboard? Are you going to the game tomorrow?

  17. Well, won’t say “told you so” on McCabe, as I had it as Gilroy and a pick for McCabe.

Gilroy, apparently, will instead be a Star if current talks result in a deal.

It is frightening right the names being bandied, for 20 games for a concussed Richards.

Rangers must make a conditional deal which excludes Boyle, AA, or MZA.

Good news is there are options, from Stasny (and still perhaps Spezza). To Plan C choices like Arnott, Connoly, etc.

But this could really be Sather’s deciding moment as Rangers GM.

Sounds like given our No. 1 plus Gilroy and his $1.4m would go. Plus anything more than a conditional pick/future considerations element is flat out crazy,IMO.

Even IF Rangers landed BR, they’d be in the position of HOPING not one but their two best offensive players could overcome concussions (if they really are concussions) down the stretch.

So much info and misinformation flying with these damn tweets its almost impossible to tell what. Will be.

  18. Olga Folkyerself on

Rod you had it as McCabe to Washington. It was the only prediction I ever saw you commit to. So go get your shinebox…

  19. Hey Marji, yes I am, with the Fozzy Posse, noremy and mr. noremy!
Here’s how I (and Fozzy and her daughter and her friend Patti) did it. Brilliant marketing scheme by American Eagle Outfitters. Buy anything in the store, no matter how cheap (I spent $13 bucks), show your receipt and they take a picture that appears outside on their HUGE outdoor billboard. You also get to include a message. Fozzy took pics. We spent 45 minutes in the cold admiring ourselves as the pictures kept reappearing….:)

Patti had a bag from the NHL store with Crosby’s picture on it. In the shot with she and I, I waited til the last second and put my hand over his face! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

  20. per the twitter world…McCabe is scrambling to pack and get to NY for tomorrows game…and will wear #28

  21. Mama, this is a true story. I swear it. I went to the NHL store last fall. I found a cool hoodie that has an old-time look about it. I noticed that folks on line ahead of me were getting those Cindy bags (is it purse?). When it was my turn to pay, I asked if I have to get one of those bags cause if so, I’m walking out. The guy said, no, he had other bags so he got me another bag that’s really! cool. It looks like hockey skates and the string on the bag looks like the hockey laces. How cool is that?

  22. McCabe to WASH? NEVER said anything of the sort.

You people ever cease being retarded?

No time for your nonsense now.

REAL hockey people talking real trades right now, trades that could change the landscape of the league.

  23. I agree about 3:01 Monday. I hope somebody keeps handing Uncle Glennie cigars so his hands aren’t free to use the phone. No more trades/swaps/etc. This team has a fan-damn-tastic chemistry. Don’t mess it up.

  24. Marji, that is awesome!!! The bag is the bag they put your stuff in. Ovblechkin was on the other side. We also learned a cool story at the store today. Linda was looking for some little Rangers doodads (key chains etc.) but they had none…we were like, wtb! Apparently, AA came in and bought them all out :) Linda comments about how the stuff she wanted was sent to Russia :)

I did manage to get a cute little pair of pants and hoodie shirt for my niece though :)

  25. Doodie – According to the Caps announcers, Varlamov was nicked up in practice. If that is right, he may not be part of a trade. Watching the Caps last night and being in the building, they were dead. Seems like a good time for a shakeup for them. I am not sold on any of their young goalies. But enough about the Caps.

Happy that Gilroy is still around. I like that his keeps his legs going and skates so well. He has a lot of natural ability and I hope they give him time to progress here. D men take time to develop. Look at Letang. It took him a while.

  26. Olga Folkyerself on

Read it and weep, HOT Rod! You’re such a phony…

    # Rod Returns February 23rd, 2011 at 1:14 am

    Carp,

Talk is cheap. You wanna bet?

I’ve resisted getting personal, nor will I now, but I’m really sick of your double standards, your condescending nonsense, and the bullying way you run this blog in order to keep your little buttlickers tongues firmly planted up your arse.

You’re right about one thing, I was in error. The Dallas deal included DelZotto, whom I forgot, and whom you swore they weren’t shopping.

Except I have their deadliine list in my possession, along with those from 4 other teams.

It was MDZ, Gabby, Gilroy and a pick for Richards and Neal. Dallas opted out because they were convinced Gaborik has had a concussion for at least a week.
As you know, the Rangers actually run a very tight ship, but the rest of the league not only leaks like a sieve, but they want this stuff out there.
Posters can believe what they want. I’m not jeopardizing my friends to convince the likes of CCCP of anything!
Time will prove this all out.

Olga, I did just tell you. The Panthers are headed north to Ottawa. McCabe south, to Washington.

CCCP, you’re not worth talking to.

  27. Yes, Mama, I know the bag is the bag they put your stuff in. I was making fun of Cindy. There was no way I was walking around the city with a bag with Cindy on it. That’s funny about AA. How come I never see any of the players when I go there?

  28. What’s your won/loss record at games this year Mama? I hope you get to put one in the W column tomorrow.

  29. Under the Mango Tree on

    Nice try Olga Folkyerself. Folkyerself.

Rod said “to Washington” because that is where the Rangers were going to be.

  30. Olga Folkyerself on

Sorry Rod, post your response under any name you want. You don’t know carcillo, and never did. I called you out, you denied it and I proved it.

    HA! Shinebox time!

  31. Under the Mango Tree on

Rod Returns February 23rd, 2011 at 12:14 am

    For the cool people here…

Bryan McCabe a Ranger. No. 2 pick, plus “fringe” player thought to be Matt Gilroy.

  32. Rod, I already emailed Carp about you yesterday and now I am glad I did. I was suspicious and I could tell that you have been posting under a bunch of different names for the last few days. How many times does Carp have to ban you. It’s pathetic and it’s time to stop. It’s blatantly obvious to all of now…why do you want to start trouble?

  33. Under the Mango Tree on

This is not another of Rod’s names. I am defending Rod because he deserves to be defended, and I am not using my regular handle because I do not want to be blackballed.

  34. If everybody ignores Rod, he’ll go away. If you spar with him, he’ll keep coming back. It’s getting old.

  35. The Earth will shatter! The sky will fall! The oceans will dry out! The forests will burn! And the NHL will never be the same because Rod said so!

Real news! Real people! Real bulls#!t!

Rod, you’re a clown. Plain and simple.

  36. One more thing

Rod said McCabe is a Ranger long after it was discussed on the blog…so he didn’t say anything we didn’t know (as usual) AND he still got it wrong on who went the other way

    Now I rest my case

  37. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

    mama
    EXACTLY!!!!

so after the richards hit on booth, wasn’t it mccabe that fought richards at the start of their next game??

  38. Nice try, Mango. You’re not doing yourself any favors. You know who used to talk about sitting under the Mango Tree? Pedro Martinez, the Hall of Fame Boston pitcher.

  39. I love when Sather makes trades like these because even if McCabe is a Bust …

He’s a 2 month Bust and we gave away a player with no future here and a 3rd round pick (when we have 2 2nd rd’ers anyway)

  40. Olga Folkyerself on

Yeah, it’s not the worst trade he’s made… That alone should condemn Sather to a seat between Hitler and Stalin in Hell.

  41. Rob, I remember that post. You certainly dug urself a hole. Nobody with the connections u say u have would discuss what they might know on this blog. It’s outrageous that you continue to try to pull this nonsense when none of us believe u. You see like you know a good amount of hockey, and I appreciate that you have this knowledge, and I would like to reinvite you to this blog as an asset and not a finger puller. Yes its fun that there is a person we can all hate, but let’s leave thatmrole to the likes of carcillo and his disgusting lip hair.

  42. somerset, exactly. Kennedy was never, ever going to play for the Rangers. So it’s a third-rounder for a guy who helps them get into the playoffs, and maybe chips in on the PP so they win a round. Maybe not. But it only cost a third-rounder.

  43. Under the Mango Tree on

Yes, Pedro Martinez. A fun-loving and good guy. Am I not allowed to defend Rod, or is that violating the TOS?

  44. Under the Mango Tree on

You think I do not know where Under the Mango Tree came from? I am good friends with his agent, Fern Cuza, also the agent of Mariano Rivera and the steroid-user David Ortiz.

  45. To be honest, I like rod, I think to some extent he knows what he’s talking about. But he also does this to himself.

  46. Yeah, great job Olga, YOU COMPLETE AND UTTER TOOL!

Where did the Rangers play last? Washington you IDIOT!

“The Panthers are headed north – to play Ottawa.

McCabe south, to Washington – to join the Rangers!

What a loser! Followed by all the othe pile-on losers that infest this site!

    NO MORE INFO FOR YOU!

Whomever was kind enough to dig up my original call of McCabe for a pick n Gilroy, tnx.

And I’ve NEVER posted ANYTHING here not under Rod.

    LUNATICS!!!

  47. Czechthemout!!! on

Ok enough trade I guess. However, McCabe is finished as a player. Only reason I am not up in arms is that they did not move anything of real value. I thought MDZ came on strong yesterday as the game moved along. He will very quickly become the next Rozy on this blog. Hate all the Richards stuff. Would not trade any real assets their as well. We are not a cup contender with or without him. Can wait for July 1 for him.

However, if there is any truth to the Paul Stasny rumors, I would be all in on that one. He has more upside and would be cheaper than BR. In fact if you look at BR’s stats, in his first season, his stats are about the same. Sather should stop with this struck crap already. We don’t need them. We should developmour own!

  48. Haha mango is name dropping.. very much like rod. If were going to name drop. Wayne gretzkys son played in my mother baseball league. Beat that!

  49. I am Under the Mango Tree. I went to school and remain great friends Fern’s daughter Ashlee. I didn’t want to be ridiculed for defending Rod.

But I feel Rod deserves some defense. I hate seeing people thrown under a bus and ridden over. Enough with bashing this guy.

  50. Wow, Under the Mango, I’m touched. Really.

Do yourself a favor and get the hell out of here.

    I sure am this time.

It is downright scary. Thanks again thoough….

  51. Czechthemout!!! on

By the way, my brothers friend who does a lot of security work for Avery at Warren 77, and is a big Rangers fan. He also is quite friendly with Avery. He said Avery told him to expect another deal by Monday but did not think it would be anything big.

Take it for what it’s worth.

  52. No problem, Rod. I feel sort of bad for you. You speak your mind and get ridiculed for it.

You’re an underdog, like the Yankees. Like Lawrence Taylor and Alex Rodriguez. And I pull for underdogs. My family used to know Lawrence Taylor, and he’s one of the greatest and kindest men you’ll ever meet ♥ Lawrence

  53. I think we are all sick of Rod and never want him here again. That is because he is a coward, a fraud, and a crazy nut who keeps changing his name. It is painfully obvious that you are troll and Carp is going to ban your pathetic Aasen…say goodnight while you can.

  54. I always pull for the hated and for the underdogs.

Rod, Ive sort of liked you from day one, and would love it if people would give you a chance (as long as you’re not a Red Sox fan).

Maybe this site is not the best place for you. The site is sort of clique-ish, and you’ve done your share to turn the members here off, with your poor taste of words about Giannone to your foul mouth and name-calling.

I was not liked here early too because I was obnoxious. I still am obnoxious about boston, referees, etc, but now a lot of the members see that Im a good guy with a big heart.

  55. sigh. I shouldn’t have checked back before I faded to black…..oh, ilb, I hope you’re enjoying the slopes cause I miss you here! help!

have I ever mentioned how much I just adore when all the regulars behave like assens? Hmmmm. I think I have. Here’s some heartfelt advice from mama..give it a hartnelling rest!!!

    ah….that felt good.

  56. Nyr fan, so hostile man. Rod I like u dude. U bring something to the table, hockey talk, which is something I can’t say for everyone here. I will be he first to say I’m sorry for discrediting you of the mccabe deal. U were basically spot on.

  57. Olga Folkyerself on

Yeah Rod, maybe this site isn’t the best place for you… maybe if you knew something… maybe if you got something right once in a while… maybe if you weren’t a putz… maybe…

  58. NYR…you have two cheeks right? Turn the other one :)

There are 19 games left in the next 6 weeks…..if I don’t start feeling some mama love from everyone I am gonna trade you all to….well, somewhere bad!!!!

  59. CCCP – I know you don’t like the guy and you have every right to, as he’s acted like an aasen.

I just feel that people can change, and maybe we can give the guy another chance.

Life is about chances and opportunities.

Has this guy killed our pets? No. Maybe he can change. Like my beloved Lawrence Taylor did. Taylor changed his life around from 2000 on until he got suckered into an awful situation. And Tiki Jay’s puppy chihuahua is named LAWRENCE TAYLOR!!! LT!! And his nickname is Soopieman!

The greatest defensive player that ever lived. He revolutionized how defenses play and how offenses adapt to defenses. LT! LT! LT!

  60. Tiki

What is the amount of “let’s give another chance” is ok in your book? Because in my book he already went cover to cover

  61. If Slats gets Richards we have to dump over 3.5 million in salary.

So every trade proposal that has Gilroy, Grachev, yada, yada, yada wont get it done

So, What are the chances that Frolov or Drury is sent to Dallas with a 1st rounder to sweeten the deal ??

More than likely though I guess WW would have to be a piece going back to Dallas to replace the loss of Neal

  62. C3, you know i love you more than my luggage!

Actually, AyVeerE, Linda is the big name giver here….I just got luckily brilliant with yours! Hmmm. But I also came up with C3….I am a giver!!!

NYR…are you trying to annoy me!!!

  63. Olga Folkyerself on

Slats getting Richards now would be one of the biggest mistakes of his sordid career with New York. Instead, he’ll sign him July 1st for too much money for too long a time with a NTC. That won’t make it the worst move of his career, just the latest in a long line..

  64. Lawrence Taylor is no sex offender. In “words” only because he got suckered. He’s a terrific human being!!!

  65. Thanks, Laurel

And I love you more than my neighbor from downstairs lol

I’m gonna go ahead and predict that BR will not be traded

  66. C3, you are too funny and so annoying at the same time :) but I luuuuuv you!
shite, I have wicky’d my assen off tonight. Goodbye!!

    mama fading to black….Taaaaaaaaaaaa……

  67. so we basically traded a bag of pucks (maybe a bucket of pucks) for Florida’s Captain

whats the chances somebody does the same for ours ??

  68. CCCP – I dont know how many chances is enough. But Rod has never been fully welcomed and he acts like he has a chip on his shoulder, so I can understand where some of his behavior comes from.

    I love you buddy :)

  69. Orr – I don’t think it matters, Frolov is on LTIR, so Richards would be making more than him and replace his cap hit plus the difference, I believe. I also think Girardi is expendable for an improvement up front. Dreary has a profitable cash cow in Colony Grill and his NYR contract. He is going cash those checks. I could not agree more, Orr!

Now, off to get some Chinese!! I am going to get me some Vegetable Fried Dumplings. Need to get out of here, see youse later!!!!

  70. Olga Folkyerself on

Unfortunately, the chances are Nil. I don’t think Drury will waive his NTC, and even if he does who would trade for his performance along with that contract? Sather is the only one stupid enough to give Drury that much money…

  71. Boom Boom Bathgate on

I am NOT from Chicago but I am willing to bet they would take Dick Butkus as the greatest D player who ever lived, and, frankly, so would I. What a man, what a MLB. Played his last season hobbled and on one good leg. When he was younger and right, he was the most dominant force you could ever see up the middle. Butkus didn’t just tackle you, he killed you. Nothing against LT, but given a choice, I draft a young Butkus to build my team around.

Another interesting discussion is Jordan vs. Magic. I say not only was Magic better, but he is also the greatest player in NBA history. Beats Jordan a mile on assists per game, rebounds per game, and on total points scored per missed shot from the field. Oscar whips Jordan’s butt on the most important match-up stats, too. You keep your Jordan, I will take the boys who were more productive rather than ball hogs and hot dogs minus the mustard.

  72. Olga Folkyerself on

The Rangers would have to sweeten the pot just to get rid of Drury, and again, he would have to agree to go. So he would need some extra incentive to agree to move…

  73. Dick Butkus, lol! Lawrence Taylor is the greatest defensive player that ever lived. Defenses schemed just to stop him, and they still couldnt. He changed the game of football as we know it. No need continuing this conversation, as I have this one won easily. Unanimously the greatest defensive player that ever lived. Oh, God, I love that guy! He’s wonderful in every way. He’s beautiful, on the inside and out. A lovely lovely man with a dedication to winning and being the best. LT LT LT!

  74. eddie eddie eddie on

det beats buf in a SO and pens beat leafs in SO…all in all..those trailing rangers fail to capitalize.

  75. Let’s go Blackhawks!!

Do the Hawks have a legitimate chance of winning the Cup this year?

    Let’s go Blackhawks!

  76. Olga Folkyerself on

Ottawa winning over Philly is one of those wonderful surprises that you really don’t expect. Yet they are so pleasant, just the same…

  77. Jordan supersedes stats. He is the greatest player that ever lived. While he had very good players surrounding him, he put the game on his shoulders countless times and won games by himself. He was unafraid of the moment or being THAT guy. He had a desire to win like Mr. George M Steinbrenner III and Mark Messier and Lawrence Taylor.

  78. I think if Dolan offers to convert all MSG Pizza stands to Drury’s Pizza stands (like the Seinfeld “Chicken” episode) that contract has got to be worth more than the 5 million real cash he is due next year.

  79. Some people have addictions and also make mistakes. (For the record, no acts were done with underaged prostitute) No human is perfect. People in glass houses ought not throw stones!

LT! LT! LT! Lovely honorable man of which Id sacrifice my left arm for. A toast, to Lawrence Taylor, a man a greatly admire, respect, revere, and love. A man Id be willing to lose my left arm and both my legs for. ♥

  80. Enough of my reverence to LT for the night! Time to hit the hay and get ready for an early NYR start! McCabe!!! Another great man, if only for 2+ months!

Tiki, the Black Hawks still have a chance to make the playoffs. They really did gut a lot of the team this year. But, I have watched them a lot this year, and I have a confidence in them being able to come back and win a game, much like I did with the Rangers in 1994 season.

Unfortunately, I don’t have that confidence in this years Rangers. I have never wished the Rangers ill will, just Sather.

  82. the Hawks would be comfortably in the playoffs right now if it wasn’t for the poor goaltending of Turco. he has been awful, a sieve. Crawford has been excellent, but they went with Turco in the early part of the season, and blew at least 3 or 4 3rd period ties or leads with Turco in the net. that would have been a half dozen or so pts more for the Hawks. they would battling for 4th instead of 8th if not for Turco.

  83. Holy Moly. I had no idea the Hawks were even out of the playoff picture right now. I assume that because you say “they still have a chance to make the playoffs” as if they are not in it right now.

Yep, they gutted their team. It would be kind of cool for them to win 2 in a row after having not won for a very long time.

Hawks- no argument here. I thought that Chicago’s worst losses were Bufylgin and Niemi. Although Crawford has done well.

Oh well, it is what it is. If only Sather would do as well as Chicago has…

  85. Crawford> 21-12-3 > 2.11 > .920

    Turco> 11-11-3 > 3.08 > .900

they give up a full goal per game more when Turco is in the net, and his save % is very mediocre.

  86. You’re not gonna beat me, Carp. (Of course you can ban me, that is your right, and Im not challenging you to, because you have full discretion to do so)

You can think and give your views about LT or any other person, and I will do the same.

I will let everyone what a great man Lawrence Taylor is. A legend. You and the rest of the media will never quash my love and affection for great men such as LT and Alex.

Lawrence Taylor saved a young boy from drowning back in the late 80s!

  87. Olga Folkyerself on

Tiki- the playoff picture in the west changes daily. Look at the logjam around the 70 point mark. Chicago is right in the midst of it. They just need to keep winning…

  88. lol, Carp!

The last line of Blind Side says everything you need to know about Lawrence Taylor.

Sandra Bullock in the movie says “I thank God….and Lawrence Taylor.” There’s never been a more perfect line.

  89. Mark Messier, the greatest man this world has ever seen. The greatest leader, the greatest teammate. Is there a better man than the Mess?!

  90. wicky(grating PIBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

    somerset
that is what I have been saying all along!

  91. eddie eddie eddie on

…or an almond crusted sea bass….my god it melts in your mouth and a virtual foodgasm…

  92. Olga Folkyerself on

Is that the same Messier that bolted from the Rangers to Vancouver, only to come back and spend his remaining years floundering among Sather’s ill conceived acquisitions- never to even play a playoff game again?

Better than Mess? Leetch, Graves, Richter…

  93. LT: “Taylor … in St. Petersburg, Florida at a charity golf tournament ….” Works with charities! ♥

  94. We’re seriously going to insult the Mess now? I thought I couldnt go wrong with that. Leetch? He finished his career with the Bruins. Mess had 6 Cups, 2 as a captain, only guy to captain 2 different teams to a Cup. Winner

  95. Doesn’t matter. He could have finished his playing days with any other team than the Bruins. Any other team. But he went back home. Because everyone’s home is Boston. It is, as you all know, the hub of the universe. The center of everything.

  96. Mama is gonna be so upset at me for all this non hockey talk tomorrow. She’s gonna newspaper me. Ah, geez.

  97. Olga Folkyerself on

Yes. Mess, thanks for HELPING to win the Cup. But what did you do afterwards? We had Gretzky here for Cripes sake, and you left for Vancouver because you weren’t making enough money? How much was enough after you pulled in $50 million over your career?

  98. It’s a business. These guys sustain so many injuries throughout their careers, you cant fault them for wanting more.

  99. NYR_FAN,

Did you happen to go to P.F. Changs? They have excellent dumplings and spare ribs. My local place also has excellent dumplings and spare ribs as well.

Speaking of P.F. Changs, I remember on that show they used to do on MSG, I think it was called “Behind the Rangers,” Girardi said his favorite food was their Mongolian Beef.

  100. Latona – No, I went to China Fun on the East Side in Manhattan. I have never been to P.F. Chang’s. Although, next time I am in Long Island, I want to try it! Thanks for the tip!

  101. Beautiful move to get Sather. If he trades MDZ or Gilroy in the next couple days as iBob is reporting, I won’t be too broken up about it, though I would rather hold onto MDZ.

  102. I’m a Jersey guy, NYR_FAN, but you should definitely give PF Chang’s a try. It is unlike traditional Chinese take-out, but it’s mostly delicious.

  103. Ria (the silent bonehead) on

Carp if your going to the game today you best get some rest after all it’s a Sunday matinee and we need you nice & “refreshed” for all the “new post” lmao
