It’s Go Time!

Here we go. Rangers having lost two of last three — both against the Canadiens, neither of them very good — with an outstanding 1-0 win over Vancouver in between. It’s one of those “Let’s See” games, in which they’ve done pretty well all season long.

But they aren’t scoring (11 goals in the last eight games) and their power play is awful, and everything is being juggled, and … again, it’s one of those games in which, so far this season, the Rangers have normally responded strongly.

But these are the Flys, who are the best team in the East at the moment, and getting better, and who have handled the Rangers in a pair of 4-1 victories.

Tonight’s lines, to start:

No Carcillo tonight. And by Carcillo, I mean Daniel, not, you know. Boucher in goal.

  1. I have no suggestions regarding that contest other than one free entry and a second entry with a charitable donation. :)

  2. There’s a bunch of Carcillo’s in the Flys lineup as far as I’m concerned…

  3. LMAO, boneheads! I’m exactly above the Ebox- where Carp and other media folks sit. Should I be careful with my bear, or… ? What’s the verdict, let me know fast, they are all about to show? Carp isn’t here yet either…

  4. woohoo game time gang!

Heritage Jerseys and the Flyers… *gulp*

Praying and hoping the boys play great.

  5. Just in time! Got home from Niagara Falls, NY Hopefully a win tonight. Missed yesterday, saw post game show.

  6. ZzZz NYR ZzZzank " Go RANGERS!!!"...says Greg L. on

Lets go Rangers and lets go Jets!!!

    Rangerssssss!!!!!!! Lets beat these bums!!!

  7. Meh, it’s still early. Sooner or later this team will learn it has to score 3 goals a game to win consistently.

  8. It’s so quiet in here you can hear people’s cellphones ringing.

What they might not have shown — Avery in Richards’ face all the way to the bench, and still having words once he got to the bench.

  9. This is within reach. Price is an infinitely better goalie than Boucher. No reason we can’t score a goal or 3 on him.

  10. Not in reach anymore. We dont have enough talent to beat them when were down 2-0.

Not when we have 2 players making $7M+ doing absolutely nothing out there.

  11. Oh and my $.02 re: Del Zotto. Either call him up now and ride him (we desperately need his offensive talent), or deal him for a player who will save our season. I see no reason to let him toil in the minors any longer.

  12. Wouldn’t help the scoring problems at all…..but would at least still give us some toughness.

  13. DJK – deal a 20-year-old who is still one of the team’s best prospects, current troubles or not, for someone who will “save” a season that doesn’t actually need any saving? Huh?

  14. we werent outplayed that badly. their powerplay aint that hot either.

we can still make some noise in this game.

  15. Unlike rangers, Flies are unforgiving team and able to use ANY opportunity and expose how “good” is our defence and tactic.

  16. Oh god, no, Orr. Don’t tell Tiki that, he’ll lose his mind after you promised not to watch it.

  17. Funny, it’s not like Rangers playing bad, just teethless, just couple mistakes here and there, not too bad, but Flies are just better period. Hate that and my own sarcasm.

  18. It is too much for 2 days in a row, with all this stupid statistic about back to back games and resilience.

  19. I have a feeling McDonagh will be sent down and Del Zotto back up in time for Wednesday’s game. Not because McDonagh is playing badly.

  20. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take that, NEW ENGLAND!! JIM NANTZ PHIL SIMMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark Sanchez has more road playoff victories than Tom Brady!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE WANT THE CUP! WE WANT THE CUP! Im tired of fearing Boston! It’s time we own them baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im tired and weak, but it feels SOOOOOO BYFUGLIEN GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s all New York, baby in the city of heroes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDWARDS!!!! LT!!!!! HARRIS!!! SANCHEZ!!! GREENE!!!!! REX RYAN!!! Ill lick your feet any day, SEXY REXY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take that 14-3 Patriots!!!!!!!!!!! Ride that one you trash talking punks Welker and Brady, and you little piglet Woodhead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. I’m afraid it’s gonna be worse before it over. Now fight just to try to avoid embarrassment

  22. Ahh, Tiki, you survived. Good to see. Now I would suggest you leave cause the Rangers are playing like carcillo.

  23. No argument there, DJK. But it was hardly much better when MDZ was in the line-up, not that saying so means either I think there’s value in giving up on his career or on the Rangers’ season.

  24. Oh, i see the Rangers are down 3-0. Come on guys. Dont ever give up! DONT EVER GIVE UP!

If there’s one thing I ever learned from Jimmy Valvano, NEVER GIVE UP!

I cant watch the rest of this game, b/c i have to take a bunch of tylenol pms and rest for awhile, but the Rangers will wiN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You just have to believe it!!!!!!!!!!!

What’s life without hope and faith?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    JETS, for the WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. WTH is happening here? 2-0?! 3-0?!! Fight?!!! KILL!!!!!!!!

Oh, did I mention Sanchez is approaching God-like status?

2 years, 2 AFC Championship games?

  26. “Ill lick your feet any day, SEXY REXY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Might be the funniest post Ive seen here.

  27. totally lol’d at Dubi’s flying jump into Shelley’s back. Dubi would get his assen kicked if he took on Shelley.

  28. I’d rather have one of these Kia Soul hamsters on the ice right now than Drury. And Gaborik, for that matter.

“Ill lick your feet any day, SEXY REXY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Might be the funniest post Ive seen here.

funnier than “why Willie Mitchell isnt a Ranger yet”? i dont think so :)

  30. Do i really have to sit here and listen to the flyers announcers complain how Avery beat up on the “non-fighter” Carle?

  31. Yeah, I been liking the Kia Soul hamsters!

Braylon Edwards looks like a pimp!

He can wear whatever he wants after today, just hope he calls a cab.

  32. No doubt it’ll get potrayed like Carle was completely unwilling to fight, which didn’t appear to be the case, but Avery really has to stop with his habit of throwing punches while his opponent is down.

  33. The Rangers look like theyre at a morning skate. I havent seem them look less engaged all season.

  34. CCCP,

If that’s your idea of a joke I don’t like it.

That’s 2 in about 24 hours; next one gets you stomped.

Trying to enjoy myself here, despite 3-0 deficit.

Freakin’ HISTORIC Jet win today Bro. Don’t be a jerkweed.

  35. Yes and no, DJK. They don’t match up well with the Flyers at all, and last night was just Montreal on Saturday night and then losing their cool.

One thing is for sure, they miss Callahan.

  36. This isn’t a match up they are ready for. Not this year. That’s why we should be careful and not make any drastic moves.

  37. Just the bad ones CC.

    Cmon, chill.

    Jets gave me liftoff.

NYR game probably over on scoreboard; will settle for some Flyer blood.

  38. Can understand the Flyers being upset with Avery and Shelley seemed like a decent sort in his Rangers stint, but he’s still been suspended twice already this year, so go easy on the “honourable player” tributes, Sam and Joe.

  39. are they booing the Rangers or is it Boo for Boucher? i really hope it isnt the latter. that would be embarrassing.

  40. Next season will be better once we sign Brad Richards and possibly Dreary retires, and the young players get a year of experience in.

  41. Mrs is thoroughly enjoying the game and she liked Carp. The fight she couldn’t get excited about. I also had issues explaining to her why the croud is saying bad things about someone named Potvin.

  42. The Flyers are so deep and talented from top to bottom.

We won’t/can’t be until Dreary and his $7M cap hit are off the books.

At least the LOLfs are up next, and we own them.

  43. Mama and I are here at W77, the fights got the biggest response from the stragglers of the Jets crowd.

  44. It’s all is just huge display of reality, like hockey reality show, with really good team, which know us pretty good (unlike West) and easily overplay us in any aspect.

  45. I have a feeling that Aves is going to finally get the piss kicked out of him for the first time in his career. If the score doesn’t change, I can see Shelley just jumping the guy and destroying him.

    He’d gladly take the suspension.

  46. I’m so glad I’m not in MSG, they don’t serve hard liquor in sufficient quantities to drown this embarrassment

  47. ion, mama wants to know if you coming to w77 after the game (or now so you can spare yourself the torture of the last 15 mins)

Mama+CTB > Rangers (tonight at least)

  48. ilb, mama wants to know if you coming to w77 after the game (or now so you can spare yourself the torture of the last 15 mins)

Mama+CTB > Rangers (tonight at least)

  49. DJK January 16th, 2011 at 9:15 pm
Gaborik looks like he has mastered Alex Kovalev’s secret invisibility ninjutsu technique.

  50. Dubi is either being moved down to a checking role with Boyle and Prust, or Boyle and Prust are being elevated into scoring roles. I can’t figure out which.

  51. I don’t know if you can save with GEICO, but isn’t a word “MISSED” the most frequently used by Rangers commentators, describing their any play?

  52. That goal just makes it worse by demonstrating how poor Brian Boucher really is, yet he’s hardly been tested (by weak wristers taken from the corner).

  53. I really am getting tired of taking 2 periods off then “giving it their all” for 9 minutes

    just sayin’

  54. Boardwalk Empire won a Golden Globe for best tv series and Buscemi won for best dramatic actor. Heck yeah. That is a great show.

  55. Now would be a really good time for a Gaborik goal. Except he’s been stapled to the bench.

  56. They played tiredly for 2 periods, and yet, despite the last 15 minute push, Flyers again proved they are the better team.

  57. Folks what this all comes down to us having a craptacular PP. In fact, the craptacular PP is the reason we lost this game. Imagine if we scored instead of coughing up a SHG? Ughhhh….

Either recall Del Zotto for next game or deal for a PP QB.

  58. I am glad he benched Gaborik. They are just not getting from him what he is paid highly for, and that is production. He is giving some effort, but not any full or extra effort, and that won’t cut it.

If a trade is made, I hope he is the one going away.

  59. >>Prust gets pulled down behind the net – AGAIN, the ref is right there, but NO CALL!

He also got punched by two idiots from the Flyers bench. I hope that clip is sent to Collin Campbell.

  60. Biron?! Really?! Hank is on fire give him one last start before a few days off and then Biron gets Toronto. Hank is fired up and he has proven he can handle the work load of back to backs. I just didn’t get this one. There is no way he didn’t want in this game.

  61. CCCP from your answer, way back. good one, not refuse the power play, but Mike Sullivan, he does well in his first between period interviews though

  62. Sending tapes to Campbell obviously doesn’t matter if the Rangers are the team making the complaint – Subban slewfoot the other night, right in front of the referee, and NOTHING happens….

  63. as a diehard ranger fan and seldom poster… it really is hard to believe how much some overreact after two games…. can we relax a little bit please?

  64. If Burrows doens’t get suspended for trying to geld Staal, then nothing is gonna happen to the 2 dudes from the Flyers bench.

  65. Ladies and Gents, we are a much improved team, and a very good team I will say, but we are not a “Great” team. We can definitely play with anyone in this league, but we are still young, still learning, and these things are going to happen. We are a few pieces away from being “Great”, but you have to love the direction this team is going in. As long as we hold on to this core, and add a few missing pieces, we are going to be good for a long time. I can definitely see a cup for us within the next few years.

  66. Wow, Nasty being all positive. The sky must be falling.

Srsly though, I agree with everything you said. They have to stay the course and not panic or think they have to win this year so they trade a key piece for some rental. Next year or the year after will be one where this team will really compete for a Cup. Right now, it’s all about learning and preparing for those years. And if they win a round or 2, that’s just gravy.

  67. These next three games are definitely games that we should win. Toronto, Carolin, Atlanta. We should get 6 points there. Any less than for would pretty much be inexcusable IMO.

  68. Media’s questions…he was quite “testy”…….disagreed with several reporters questions, and shut down the presser quickly.

  69. LOL Nasty I’m insulted that the Rangers actually have to show up for those games. WTB!
    You are kidding right??

  70. One reporter said that the team looked sluggish, and Torts disagreed – Torts didn’t think his team was outworked in the first 2 periods, reporter did…

  71. Thanks, Jimbo

So in other words, he prolly wasn;t real happy with his team and took it out on the media. LOL

  72. Carp’s postgame post will probably go into it further….also, Torts said, “Our scorers need to score – guys are grinding their humps off working for the puck, but the scorers need to score”….

  73. He said they weren’t sluggish? How the heck did he miss that. Even I saw it on the tv 1,000 miles away.

    Unless he’s just protecting them…

  74. Not really, Mickey – he was annoyed at the bad penalties they took early on, and he was annoyed with the “non-production” of the scorers (we know who he really meant).
He thought the team worked hard, and was disputing the reporters who didn’t think they did…

  75. I think he was protecting them somewhat – he wasn’t going to blast the whole team because it seemed like he was happy with the way some players performed…..but the “names” didn’t, and that’s what he was irked with, in addition to the reporters.

  76. I guess I just have high expectations against teams that I feel we are better than or equal to. I feel like we are a better team than Toronto, Atlanta, and Carolina. I just meant that 6 points are there for the taking, and that I feel anything less than 4 points would be a serious let down, IMO.

  77. I miss seeing Torts start to twitch in the pressers. You just knew he was about to go off when he started doing that.

  78. Alright, so the tylenol pms didnt help, and Im New York through and through, so i watched the rest of the Rangers game.

Tough loss, great effort in the 3rd period, live and learn, put it behind and move forward.

I bit my fingernails all the way down today, and my fingers are burning, so now ive got 7 fingers with bandaids on them! But it feels so good!

New York is my heart, my soul, and my true love!

Praise Braylon Edwards: “These 2 cities dont like each other for whatever reason, but all the media that were on the Patriots’ jock, take that”

  79. I’d say he’s irked at Gaborik for sure.

Gotta be happy with how Stepan, Zukes, Wolski, Boyle and Prust played since he had them on the ice every other shift in the less 6 minutes or so.

  80. Zucc, Stepan and Wolski/Gilroy looked pretty good out there together – maybe he should try them on a PP unit…?

  81. I guess I can agree a little bit with Torts when he gets all pissy with the media. “Mrs. Lincoln, what about the show tonight didn’t you like?”

But, he has to be more even keel. Can’t just smile when you are winning.

  82. OK, Mickey! Gotcha – I don’t know why I thought you were a NYC gal….did you move there from NYC?

  83. Don’t think it’s in his nature to smile after a loss. And he’s been pretty good so far this year at being positive in all his press conferences, from what I hear/read/see, so I guess I can give him the benefit of the doubt today.

  84. Nope, moved from upstate NY, Albany to be exact. Been to the city a number of times though, and loved it.

  85. Exactly!!

Gotta be happy with how Stepan, Zukes, Wolski, Boyle and Prust played since he had them on the ice every other shift in the less 6 minutes or so.

  86. Oh, goodness no, Jimbo. I detest politics. Though I could talk about them being from there. Down here, no one cares about politics, which is just odd to me.
