It’s Go Time!

I understand that John Tortorella doesn’t want to label one game more important than another — especially a non-conference game — and he doesn’t like the term “barometer” game, etc.

But this is a pretty good test for your boys … and they’ve done pretty darn well against some of the better teams this season (Chicago, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Dallas, Boston, Washington, etc.).

Vancouver comes in with a 17-game regulation unbeaten streak (14-0-3) and with a lot of skill and speed and some jam … and a backup goalie in Cory Schneider (not to be confused with Corey Hirsch) and one of my faves, Manny Malhotra, and an absolute talent in Ryan Kesler, and the Sdedins, and so on and so on.

No lineup changes planned. Lundqvist in goal. Wolski plays with Stepan and Gaborik; Dubinsky with Anisimov and Zuccarello. Gilroy on the PP point, and Stepan off the point. Newbury is prucha’d.

  1. Re: Trades

99% chance that NO trades go down at all. Rozi trade was so out of the blue. I think the NYR have to stay the course. Brad Richards will be more than enough, and he will come for nothing. Perfect fit (first NYR UFA ever). 2012 looks really good!!!

  2. Torts told these guys that this is a test of how good they really are. Best team in the NHL. Wanna be the best? BEAT the best.

  3. ” 99% chance that NO trades go down at all. Rozi trade was so out of the blue. I think the NYR have to stay the course. Brad Richards will be more than enough, and he will come for nothing. Perfect fit (first NYR UFA ever). 2012 looks really good!!!”

Totally agree! Let’s see what happens with the players we have in there now. This will be a difficult team to play against in a 7 game series.

  4. CTB – You mentioned earlier that a team could not re-sign a bought out player (as I brought up the example of Drury). Do you know that for sure? I thought that the Sabres could have still re-signed Kennedy after his buyout this offseason, for example.

  5. Blue Seat Horror on

Don’t forget, Cory Schneider is also 8-0-2 this season. Rangers have a chance to ruin his unbeaten record as well.

  6. Blue Seat Horror on

Sallyski, the creepiest thing about the Sedins was that commercial they did a few years ago where they showed up at a bachelor party.

  7. tonight’s game possible preview for next year’s winter classic or this year’s stanely cup???

  8. Hey Mickey! He said his favorite show is Jersey Shore (awesome!) and then they played that old clip of him and Aves “singing” the theme to the Fresh Prince.

  9. Sally! HIIIII!

    Jersey Shore? Really, Dubi?

I just do not get the fascination with that show.

That clip of him and Aves is the most awkward thing ever.

  10. Izzy! Im disappointed in your lack of firsts recently!! :)

So, the refs miss the slew foot and high stick the other night, and miss that penalty there… Is this intentional because they see the Rangers are 10 above .500 and are good.

    That was a clear penalty.

  11. Probably too early for that … but I could see him being named Wojtek Higgins-Frolov.

Just saw a guy in an old, old-school black-and-orange Burger King, Tiger Williams jersey.

  12. We’re playing a team with significantly more skill than us and for the 1st 10 minutes, we look like we clearly belong.

  13. Happy birthday Staalsie!!! Shut those Canucks down!!!

please someone repost the aves/dubi song…….too many links to go thru now but I must see that!!!!

  14. carp, you are posting too fast. please slow down :)

raise your hand if you love Carp at a game!!!!

  15. To the post that leads off this thread, Mike Babcock got upset at a reporter (can’t remember who), to the point of yelling, when the reporter suggested that the Red Wings were playing a big game against the top team in the league, the Canucks. Babcock said, similar to Tortorella, that no game is bigger than others. It doesn’t mean anything that the Canucks are on top.

  16. That’s the effort I want to see from Gaborik. He can speed around defenders every time if he wants to.

  17. I wouldn’t have known Martin if he spilled a beer on me. Oh well. Plus, my magic mouse has already lost some of its magic. WTB!!!

  18. Thanks, Carp! That’s awesome. I always love to see players from New York teams supporting other New York teams. Go Russell!

I still cant believe Drury cost us an opportunity at a Conference Finals. I really dislike him for that, but he is a Yankees fan…

Lot of action in that period. Chances from both teams, but the Rangers got the better scoring opportunities.

  19. boys, if you get into it tonight, I will be seriously hartnelling ticked……newspaper alert. it’s game night.

  20. Watch it, Mama. Dont you be knockin’ my newest man! Martin is the newest Yankee and will revive his career playing on the world’s greatest stage. :)

  21. LW3H – Have you given any thought to my deeply heartfelt request that you cease being a Liv’pool fan because of their new ownership? :hoping:

  22. LW3H – oh well, i figured it was worth a shot! I still love ya anyways :)

ilb – you have to put more pics up of Leo and Casey on the Pets page, gosh darn it!

  23. non-hockey moment, sorry….was on phone with brother for 2 secs but he had to go to kiss his daughter goodnight…I told him that was a fine priority….sigh……:)

Now, can we score a goal please!!!!

  24. awww, little tiny Lula bear!

    Sweet Caroline, oh oh oh!

:talking to myself: stop singing that Tim, stop stop stop!

  25. Did anyone just hear Sam Rosen go nuts?

That’s the kind of commentary I desire.

    Wojtek, baby.

  26. ZzZz NYR ZzZzski " Go RANGERS!!!"...& Greg L. on

WOOF WOOF , WHO let the dogs out!!!!!

  27. Look at Gabby!

    OMHG! Another Hartnelling post! BYFUGLIEN!

    Look at this team, guys!

Look at the skill, heart, responsibility, teamwork, etc.

  28. anyone who thinks that the Wombat Wolski trade was a negative for the Rangers needs to have their moustache slapped off their face and replaced with a slice of cheese fresh from the microwave! THAT IS ALL! You feel me, son?

  29. I know it’s too early, but wouldn’t it be funny if a game will end 1:0 in a light of Tort’s repeated statement

  30. Mickey – Because the referees decided to put us down 2 men!

GET UP MSG!!! Cheer on this hard working, fight til the end team!!! DRURY! BOYLE! What a team! LGR!! Cleared! Penalties over!

  31. thanks Spider, I had to go back, so many posts…ORR, this is like the airport. Leave your liquids at home. Geez! This is like kindergarten with facial hair here!!!!

  32. ZzZz NYR ZzZzski " Go RANGERS!!!"...says Greg L. on

  33. Spider – I understand that. Drury never had possession of the puck. He deflected it out of mid air. Not a penalty. 100%

  34. Tiki – Drury’s definitely should NOT have been a penalty. No possession. To the refs, I’m sure it looked like he swung at it, but he was lifting his stick and turning to block the pass only.

  35. ZzZz NYR ZzZzski " Go RANGERS!!!"...says Greg L. on

YEHAAAAAAWww!!!!!!!!! LETS GO RANGERS!!! Lets Go Rangers!!!! Rangersssssss we love youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!

WOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO , I have never heard the croud this LOUD!!!! Yeah baby , This team breathes pride , hard work, hussle and never quit!!!!!!!

  36. Rule 63.2:

“When any player, while in his defending zone, shoots or bats (using his hand or his stick) the puck directly (non-deflected) out of the playing surface…”

Whatever, I guess Im wrong, but I can guarantee you all that our opponents are not getting a penalty for that same exact play.

  37. ORR,
may be because Canuks quintessential Canada team. And Canadience like to do that to US team, playing in Canada, not to mention sending “troops” on american soil.

  38. ZzZz NYR ZzZzski " Go RANGERS!!!"...says Greg L. on

yessssssss!!!!! GO GO GO GO GO !!!!!!!!!

NEW YORK RANGERS = Greatest team starting to make sum NOISE!!!!

    HOLEY HELL yeah baby!!!!!!

  39. Had to love Staal, falling, no nuts, getting off a great slash to the ankles.

Brutal sequence of events right there.

  40. Blueshirt in Paris on

    Here is the rule:

A minor penalty for delay of game shall be imposed on any player or goalkeeper who deliberately shoots or bats (using his hand or his stick) the puck outside the playing area during the play or after a stoppage of play.

When any player, while in his defending zone, shoots or bats (using his hand or his stick) the puck directly (non-deflected) out of the playing surface, except where there is no glass, a penalty shall be assessed for delaying the game.

  41. I want and hope for more Rangers scoring (Gabby next in my prediction), but I will LMAO if it ends 1:0 !

  42. Mama, Wolski was born in Poland, moved to Canada when he was 5, that’s why sounds not-Polish.

  43. Blueshirt in Paris on

So I guess when it is done in the defensive zone of the player it doesn’t matter if it is deliberate or not.

But he broke up a pass and its on a PP, that’s a ballsie call to make especially after the non-ballsie call on Staal.

  44. ZzZz NYR ZzZzski " Go RANGERS!!!"...says Greg L. on

Im Canadian and I say Canada doesn’t have a “team” they have provinces that support thier own. My province doent have a NHL team …I cheer on the NYR and will never cheer any Canadian team ..Its only Rangers baby!!! Back in 1994 I probally was the only one crying with joy after our Rangers beat the Canucks , Countries have zero to do with this game cuz the passion we are showing is cuz we playing the best team in the NHL!!!!!!

  45. ORR,
b/c our guys didn’t play like that and lost. Besides, there where at least 4,000 loud habians

  46. I am glad I’m not an NHL ref…yeesh, rules, rules, rules……can they get the slew foots maybe please while worried about the other minors……just a thought.

  47. ZzZz NYR ZzZzski " Go RANGERS!!!"...says Greg L. on

wohoooooooooooooo i love it !!! I love it!!!!! RANGERSSS!!!

Tiki , yeah me sure isssss!! Momma, i’ll try to contain myself!!!!!!! WOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! too late cant do it!!!!!!!

  48. If referees arent going to call spears or call shots to the staals, or plowing over goalies, or call slewfoots, why call anything???
Just let all players go after one another and play hard-nosed hockey.

  49. BroadWayBlueshirt on

ORRski, it looks like Ranger fans showed up for tonight’s game, that’s why! On Tuesday I could have sworn I was in the Bell Centre South!

Lets Go Rangers!! So far tonight both the team and the fans have shown up!!

  50. WOW!
    *Yankees just signed Rafael Soriano*

Im stunned. We lose our 1st round pick to the Rays, and we’re in need of starting pitching. Wow! A Scott Boras client, I wonder how much $$$. Is Soriano the eventual successor to Mariano?

  51. Never heard of any hockey player not wearing a cup, but I know of baseball players who haven’t worn one and gotten hit there.

  52. $36 million over 3 years! Yikes. I wonder how the contract is constructed. $12 million a year for a set up man?? Not good business.

  53. Mickey, that explains a lot. And the comments the other night about him saying aboot. Heck, he speaks better English than a lot of Americans :)

Is everybody loving our boys tonight like I am ?!

  54. MickeyM – Adrian Beltre – in 2009 – with the Mariners didn’t wear a cup and got drilled there by a line drive and missed much of the season due to an injury to one of his south-sticles! :)

  55. Burrows even dived to earn the slashing call on the play with Staal, unless a one-handed slash to one foot can make your whole body collapse.

  56. lol ilb. $12 million a year for a set up man in baseball is like $4 million a year in hockey for a backup goalie like Biron. :) That’s the best comparison I can come up with. Not that you care…

  57. Sorry, Mama and ilb, I just thought Id share it with other Yankees fans on here.

I dont know how that puck did not go in for us?!

  58. Blue Seat Horror on

Just got home from work and saw the burrows spear. Man did he ever get Stall in the Ballards. No more Staals in the NHL.

  59. Given the Yankees can spend whatever they like, it’s more like $9m a year for a 3rd line checker like Bobby Holik.

  60. I agree at LMAO @ Ballards…

Sally, glad you’re back. It apparently drops every now and then, but stay till end of game!

    JBytes….I maintain my grrrrrrrr

  61. LW – Ah, the Yankees can spend what they like, but Cashman is MOSTLY a penny pincher that wants to win with a lesser payroll. Stupidly, Ill add. The only advantage the Yankees have is the money. They ought to flex their financial muscle, but not for a setup man. :)

Key word up there is MOSTLY. No need to pick that apart and claim CC, AJ, Tex..

  62. D’OH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gabby’s gotta bury that. Darn it Darn it Darn it!

    Good effort Gabby!

  63. Blue, oy, mon dieu! Quelle domage!!!!
comme ci comme ca…mais ca bien :)

LOL, don’t know whether to love or hate Pocket Rocket :)

    WTB with these boys!!!!

  64. Geez Sally……uh, uh…….wasn’t sure about him on the Ranger scale, but now I guess I am…..oy.

  65. No to pocket rocket.

Let’s leave Gabby alone. The guy is really efforting out there today. He’s close.

  66. >>Let’s leave Gabby alone. The guy is really efforting out there today. He’s close.

We’re paying him to score goals, not to do all that other stuff you’re talking about.

  67. snot rockets, lol

Had a teacher in high school that often asked us if we wanted a pocket rocket right in the snot locker. Jokingly, of course.

  68. Blue Seat Horror on

Wooohoooo! Heck of an effort. Gotta love how tightly they played the Sedins tonight. Credit to Torts for that.

  69. Look at Boyle out there! BOYLE!

    WHAT A WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2010-2011 RANGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HEART, EFFORT, DETERMINATION, TEAMWORK, YOUTH, LOVE, HENRIK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Back to 10 over .500!

    What a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  70. And Joe and Sam are lauding us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LGR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    WOLSKI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    HENRY!!! KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  71. ZzZz NYR ZzZzski " Go RANGERS!!!"...says Greg L. on

wese taking da CUP!!! I could give a ratzz azz what anyone says , wese winning EVERYTHING!!!!!

  72. OHHHHH! Who got Hank’s stick!!!! awesome! and Prust and Boyle….OMG, I am almost crying after this game………

  73. Wow, that was probably the best ranger game I watched this year. Good goal tending on both sides, hard hitting, fast pace and a shutout win against the best team point wise in hockey.

  74. fans out west scream how great their conference is, their record vs. the east, etc

hows that working out against the Rangers?

  75. I think we’ve turned a corner. Our defense was awesome tonight. teams arent gonna want to play us. get ready for some different tactics (aka cheap shots) because we cant be outskated any more.

    heckuva game. Im fired up

  76. Blueshirt in Paris on

It’s 3:30 am here, I have a meeting with Japan at 6am…how can I sleep after this game?!?!?!

  77. ZzZz NYR ZzZzank " Go RANGERS!!!"...says Greg L. on

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! yo LW , Saskatchewan Roughriders??

RANGERS win!!! we win we win we win we win!!!!

  78. I liked this Wall of Blue (or Blue Wall) before Hank at last seconds of the game. Epitomized all Rangers attitude.

  79. I agree Jimbo, my hands hurt from clapping too.

Did I miss anything important in the first 8 minutes? my sister in law’s car wouldn’t start. I had to leave for a few minutes at the beginning of the 3rd period. How dare her car have problems during the 3rd period. jpg was working. he missed the entire game

  80. boogaard wouldve scored on that breakaway gabby had. man hes just fightin it bad. hope he gets his act together

  81. Blue, bonne chance!!!!!

Don’t ANYBODY dis our boys! We canned the Canucks!! hahahahahaha..

  82. Against all odds! Officials jobbing us, not making calls on attempted de-stallings, weak call on Drury, and NO makeup calls later on, either!

  83. I watched Torts yapping at the refs before the third period started – I could read his lips – he said to them “You were right bleeping there!!” No doubt, discussing the spear/gelding attempt!

  84. Boy, it’s very sad, but Drury looks so not in synch with this team. I’d give him the benefit of the doubt by saying his been out for the most of the season, but I have a feeling he is back to LL

  85. very well played more than deserving win for the Rangers..

I was disapointed from the Canucks for a league leading team…its seems to be that they had already their next game in mind coming up tomorrow in Washington…

  86. Blue Seat Horror on

Wolski scored his first goal as a Ranger before Roszival has even played for the Coyotes. Ha! Thank you Don Maloney!

  87. Blue Seat Horror on

    Gianone: Did you know?

Staal: No John, I’m a eunich.

Staal should grab a stick and do it to Gianone and ask he he feels it.

  88. I am amazed at how often this team hits the post. Perhaps if we told the guys that hitting the post was going to count for a goal, they’d start aiming at it, and who knows…a few might go in. ( See how nutty you get watching this team sometimes?)

  89. according to the game recap on, the fourth line of Boyle, Prust and Weise did a great job shutting down the Sedin line………dot dot dot

  90. On the NHL channel they have a little caption that runs across the bottom of the screen that says, “See why the Rangers can win the Stanley Cup.”

  91. ZzZz NYR ZzZzank " Go RANGERS!!!"...says Greg L. on

Yo Orr , Boogaard isnt done yet…..

  92. Basically, he said that Burrows is that kind of player, that he tries to get under the opposition’s skin…..and when he was asked the RIDICULOUS question about “Did he know” that he was speared/gelded, it looked like he had to hold himself back from showing Giannone up for such an idiotic question….

He didn’t understand why no penalty was called, and that his retaliation was almost involuntary, he just wanted to hurt Burrows back…

  93. Ahh, thanks, Jimbo.

If I was Marc I would have strangled Giannone for that question. Or offered to do to him what Burrows had done so Giannone could see what it was like.

  94. My pleasure, Mickey – you could tell from the look on Staal’s face that he was thinking “WTB does this nitwit think!? – that I’ve already had them removed!?” It was kinda funny, actually…..

  95. And coming out of the interview, Trautwig noted that Marc *still* had a deep voice despite the gelding attempt, so Al must have thought that Giannone’s question was asinine, too……

  96. I’ll have to see if I can dig up that interview, just for the look on Staal’s face. Sounds priceless.

  97. ORR, and ZzZz
I don’t remember any Force Major, Act of God or illness/trauma stipulations in your Contract Agreement. In Preambula, thou it was “…if he plays”, wasn’t it? And he is not. LOL.

  98. Spider

If you want to indicate that the ref was some kind of a dope, then Nimrod is not the name for him. Remember who the real Nimrod was..the builder of the Tower of Babel in the Bible. He was also known as mighty hunter and sagacious warrior. ( Not perfect, but he made one bad mistake…he defied God.)
