Not sure what it is, but I don’t think it’s minor, not with Glen Sather announcing a conference call at 5:15.
Back as soon as we know something.
UPDATE: The trade is with Don Maloney and Phoenix.
UPDATE: It’s Rozsival for Wolski!
Here’s the official announcement:
RANGERS ACQUIRE FORWARD WOJTEK WOLSKI
New York sends defenseman Michal Rozsival to Phoenix
New York, January 10, 2011 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired forward Wojtek Wolski (pronounced VOY-teck VOHL-skee) from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for defenseman Michal Rozsival.
Wolski, 24, was originally selected as Colorado’s first round pick, 21st overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He has registered six goals and 10 assists for 16 points, along with 10 penalty minutes in 36 games with Phoenix this season. Wolski registered 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in his first 19 games to begin the season from October 9 at Boston to November 23 vs. Edmonton. He has registered three multi-point performances this season, including a two-assist effort vs. Carolina on October 23. Wolski has recorded seven of his 16 points against Eastern Conference opponents (three goals, four assists in 11 games).
Last season, the Zabrze, Poland native established career-highs in goals (23), assists (42), points (65), games played (80), and plus/minus rating (plus -21) while splitting the season between Colorado and Phoenix. He registered 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) in 18 games with the Coyotes, and finished the regular season on a five-game assist streak. Wolski led the Coyotes in points and assists, while his plus-21 rating ranked first on the team and tied for 23rd in the NHL. He tallied his 200th career point with a two-point effort (one goal, one assist) vs. Chicago on March 20, and recorded his 100th career assist at Vancouver on November 20. The six-year NHL veteran skated in his 300th career game vs. Phoenix on February 12 as a member of the Avalanche. Wolski also led the Coyotes in goals (four) and tied for second in scoring with five points while skating in seven playoff contests.
The 6-3, 215-pounder has skated in 356 career regular season contests with Colorado and Phoenix, registering 85 goals and 142 assists for 227 points, along with 97 penalty minutes. He tied the NHL record for most shootout goals in a single season during the 2008-09 season, originally set by Jussi Jokinen in 2005-06, converting 10 of 12 shootout attempts (83.3%) with Colorado. In 2006-07, Wolski registered 50 points (22 goals, 28 assists) in 76 games to rank fourth in the NHL among rookies in points, and fifth in goals, assists, power play goals (seven), power play assists (10), and power play points (17). He tallied his first career point with a goal, and added two assists vs. Calgary on October 10, 2005, just three games after making his NHL debut at Edmonton on October 5, 2005. In addition, Wolski has registered seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 22 career NHL playoff contests with Colorado and Phoenix.
Rozsival, 32, has registered three goals and 12 assists for 15 points, along with 22 penalty minutes in 32 games this season. In 10 NHL seasons, Rozsival has registered 60 goals and 181 assists for 241 points, along with 535 penalty minutes in 669 career regular season games with the Rangers and Penguins. The Vlasim, Czech Republic native signed as a free agent with the Rangers on September 6, 2005. He was originally Pittsburgh’s fourth round choice, 105th overall, in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

Rangers have made a trade but don’t know you yet.
on top of it carp, excellent work!!
My sources tell me some sort of asset will be coming to the rangers for some sort of asset going the other way!
Oh boy, oh boy….what does Uncle Glennie have for us this year?
Please let Rosi be gone…...
Repost:
What center though Oleo? Crosby/Malkin/Backstrom/Toews/Stamkos? How many of them get traded though, especially the young ones that are probably under market value? If they’re trading AA/Stepan/Dubi type players plus draft picks, they better get a pretty sure thing. Like 80-90 points in the bank, with maybe in the potential for more. Otherwise I don’t know if it’s entirely worth it. I’m not a fan of signing Richards, but I don’t think backing up the truck of high ceiling assets in a trade is the way to do it either.
Genius, wicky!
Are you kidding me? I was supposed to take 2 Tylenols and sleep my fever off. No byfuglien way now! I’ll survive. Don’t tell mrs :-)
If it is reaction to the frolov injury, the organization obviously value him more than many of the fans do!
Rumor is Wolski for Roszi
I would assume a big contract is going to the other team….
DID I NOT SAY THERE WOULD BE A TRADE?!
Calad
Thanks!
ILB
I’m telling!!
Feel better, ilby!

Rozsival for Wolski. Rangers-Phx trade
It’s official

hmmm…they certainly need scoring, either a first line center (love stepan, but he ain’t there yet) or another good winger (especially with frolov out). Still, this is a REBUILDING team, and I would sure hate to see the Rangers blow ANY young talent just to solidify a playoff spot this year. I don’t mind seeing them miss the playoffs again. What I do mind is seeing them on the cusp like this three years from now.
Confirmed …
Wolski for Roszival…
YES! Bye Roszi!
Shhhhh, you are all giving me a headache. Nothing yet?
Darren Dreger on TSN confirming Wolski for Roszi
Wait, wait. Sather made a trade with Phoenix?!? I DON’T BELIEVE YOU!
WOOO HOOO!!!
STEAL OF THE BYFUGLIEN CENTURY!
ok, I take back anything bad I may have implied in my post above. What a GREAT GREAT deal. Not only did the Rangers acquire scoring, but they also did it without losing young talent, and they also got younger! wtf were the coyotes thinking?
Are you efffing kidding me? Nothing else went to Phoenix? Now, that’s a robbery!
well, Wolski isn’t exactly a world-beater. Still, I love being rid of Rozsival.
I imagine this deal was attractive to them because Rozsi’s cap hit is much higher than his salary, especially next year.

Wolski sucks too!!! Don’t get too excited before Brad Richards shows up.
slatipuss with another beauty!!!!!
What’s Wolski’s deal? Twiiter is abuzz…
to unlosd rozy…awesome!!!
Is this April Fools Day and nobody told me?!
Yup, ilb, this makes up for the Enver Lisin – Lauri Korpikoski trade!!!
unload…can’t even type!!!
Wolski stinks. I support Slats, but he is no genius here. More to come for sure.
minor detail of the trade, we have to take jovo by the trade deadline!
Holy bananas!!!!!!!!!
Hard to believe Blowzy waived his no-trade to go to Phoenix…I guess it is warm there :) I guess he doesn’t care about playing for a contender….
Wolski is only 24, so he is still young .Roszi is done in my opinion. Great trade Slats and good riddance to bad rubbish.
I don’t care if Wolski was brought here to collect picks during warm-ups. To unload Rozi without having to do anything else is, in itself, a win.
Gomez…gone.
Redden…gone.
Rozsival…gone.
Sather makes many a mistake. But at least he’s correcting them.
His cap hit is $3.8 Million this year and next….then is a RFA
*picks = pucks
Oops! Too excited!
new post.
Similar length deals, Wolksi carries only a $3.8M cap hit.
Roszi makes $3 million next year but cap hit of $5 million
With Frolov’s $3 million off the books next year and Wolski’s $3.8 million coming on the books for next year the trade will be Wolski and $4.2 million in Cap Room for 2011-2012 for Roszi and Frolov
I think that’s right…
Wolski has no points in his last 7, and it looks like he’s been riding the pine a bit in his last 3.
wow!!
got nervous when i saw the word “trade”
sorry Rozy but glad to see you go
as far as Wolski, well….we shall see.
discuss his situation and where he fits later.
As much as I dreaded Rozi in the past ,he has played well this season with us.
Wolski has potential to be a great player but this season has been terrible for him it seems.
We did get rid of salary so I guess that is a positive.
Unless Wolski has a no movement clause in his contract? – Which I highly doubt he does. If Wolski does not give 100% effort (like everyone else on the Rangers) and he does not put up scoring #’s??? Wolski and his $3.8 million cap hit will soon be playing in the AHL for the CT Whale. Regardless, I’d much rather have the $$$ cap space for Rozsival or a productive Wolski and a little bit of $$$ cap space for Rozsival.
A couple of points to some previous posts:
Frolov was not signed past this year.
We got rid of cap, not salary. We eat 600K. And I know Dolan is paying but we will EAT it when prices at the snack counters go up…again.
Wolski has 3 point in the past 17 games. That is one more than the entire Devils team; this kid is a superstar!!!
Seriously, all of the things all of you guys/women have had to say about this trade have been a riot.
