Wow. Dumb play by Gilroy in the OT. Great to get a point. And Sausage Lips and his teammates decide not to shake hands after losing the Winter Classic. Wonder if they would have had they won.

ilb I agree about TB making us look bad. they make the rangers look slow and unskilled. same as Philly. not trying to drop the negativity bomb but the schedule is going to be a lot tougher starting this month and i have a feeling we’re gonna see this team level off.

I’m not too fond of this “it was a good loss” thing the guys on this team seem to embrace btw. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about how they’re basically satisfied to come out of the game with a point and how they did some good things. Kind of alarming. especially after a couple of wins that they weren’t exactly flawless in.
Really not sure what direction this team is going to go in over the next 3 months.

  5. On Pitts:

I love how the NHL wants them to be the face of the NHL when they really have no respect for the traditions of the game or for teams in general. This isn’t the first time there was an incident with them where they’ve come across as disrespectful in some way. Just one more thing that makes them unlikeable

  6. thanks tiki….dang, i wicky’d….but i got Stanley on my chest, so don’t care.
see ya for recap and game tomorrow all! final TA and fade to black….happy new year!!!

if you pop over to this post.

yes, i can see that the ‘bolts have a lot of talent
that’s why i mentioned during the game
    that
    “speed kills”

still, we chased a team around again
lucked out that we weren’t down by 3 or more goals
    and outlasted ’em.

i’m happy with the outcome but not the effort at the beginning
and while we spent more time in the tb zone as the game played on
we still weren’t so great offensively.

  8. james g try to smile get real.

the rangers have less high end skill then the lightning and they are playing shorthanded.

key to beat tampa is get the puck deep, there d is below avg.

when cally gets back and prospal this teams skill will be better and then we will see.

sit roszi and play DZ tommorrow.. more speed. frolov actually has been playing better…

drury is not getting a lot of time…

  9. thanks for the complient Mama

btw ILB, shouldn’t you and CCCP turn this into a Ukrainian blog, not russian??

  11. anisimov cannot win a faceoff that is a problem, may have to use drury for them over anisimov unless he improves.

  12. Hahaha! The sportscaster on the NYC NBC affiliate just called our goalie Henry Longfist. I kid you not!

  13. With about half the season done, the Rangers have shown they can compete against most of the teams in the league. They aren’t good enough to consistently beat the best teams and they need to play well to beat the average teams but considering you’ve got a lot of players with less than 5 full years experience in the league (Stepan, Anisimov, Dubinsky, Callahan, Boyle, Staal, Girardi, Del Zotto, Gilroy) there’s always going to be consistency issues. So over the next 3 months we’ll get to see whether the hard hat style the Rangers have been trying to implement throughout the season is going to start to take its toll or whether they’ve truly started to establish a solid team identity.

  14. A writer and/or creator of the new TV series Glory Daze is clearly a Rangers fan. One of the most recent characters names was “Dean Lundqvist” spelled like Lundqvist. Usually, the name is spelled Lundquist, so i think it’s fairly clear that one of them is a NYR fan.

  15. Wicky, we can do both… Seriously, Russian would be our first language..

CTB- the way EC is looking at the moment, the Rangers probably need to finish with 2 games above .500 the rest of the way to get in, I think they will be ok. As long as they don’t make any dumb trades, it will be a successful season.

  16. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Go RANGERS!!!"...& Greg L. on

we did get a point tonight and played ok considering we gave up so many odd man breaks on Hank. We move along and keep the points building up . We can taste the post season …mmm gotta eat up the points!!!

  17. crosby on steckel’s hit on him:
“He got my head, for sure,” Crosby said. “But I can’t comment on it. I don’t even know. Maybe it was so far behind the play the officials didn’t see it.”
    translation; wawawawa

  18. ilb, I don’t think making the playoffs will be an issue this year. The shot blocking style in their own end though has in some ways started to take its toll, but the Rangers have thus far shown that they aren’t prone to long losing streaks which is a lot better than the past 2 or 3 seasons.

Just in case any of you pansification advocates missed the winter classic, listen to 70,000+ ERUPT in cheers when rupp and erskine gave it a go, you might want to watch and quit trying to pansify this great game!!!!

  20. Isles traded Roloson to TB? I guess Charles Wang used his computer knowledge and totally deleted the last Rangers-Islander game’s highlights from Youtube.

  21. I’m thinking that has to be a strategy to cause a career ending injury to leaky DiPi and void his contract.

  22. You cant void someone’s contract for being injured. Unless the injury happens while violating a term of his contract.

  23. Wicky: Per the rumors, Calgary has offered Iginla to the Rangers in exchange for Dubinsky and Del Zotto.

Iginla fits in perfectly with the identity of this Ranger team but the price to pay will be steep. His cap hit is $7M but it can be accommodated if Frolov is traded or waived.

Iginla has a NTC but it is believed he’d accept a trade to the Rangers. If there is no plan to re-sign Dubinsky after this season and there are questions about Del Zotto’s development defensively then I’d do it.

  24. I put the Winter Classic on after the Rangers game. Did I miss something at the end of the gamec? Did the Penguins win? Is that why they saluted the crowd and they didn’t shake hands with the Capitals at the end of the game. They just left the ice. Even Eddie O made a comment that they usually shake hands at the end of the Winter Classic. Made the game kind of classless, when NHL was front and center on TV and good for PR show how NHL teams shake hands after they win or lose.

  25. We know that CGY definitely wants Dubinsky and Del Zotto for Iginla. There is a lot of talk that Calgary wants to move him to a contender and get back young players to rebuild. Sutter was unwilling to do it, but Feaster is prepared to.

Iginla is signed for 3 more seasons I believe at $7M per and he’s 33.

Remember, Dubinsky is in a contract year and will be an RFA again come July 1. He’s held out before as we all know.

MDZ has been prucha’d for way too many games now. Something is up.

Adding Iginla makes this team a credible playoff contender and easily capable of beating TB, WAS, or PIT in a playoff series.

    I’d strongly, strongly consider it.

  26. ORR- he’s old but far from finished. As someone else said before, you can’t play ONLY kids and expect to win anything.

I have seen enough to know that this Ranger team is capable of doing something this year if it only had a talent upgrade at even one forward position.

  27. Dubi and DZ for Iginla? As much as I like Iginla as a player, no way in heck do I do that deal. I don’t think Torts would go for it, either.

  28. wicky(grating CCBG)© (The game’s not over until somebody cries!!) on

hmmm lots of interesting rumours…also just read on twitter from a canadian hockey link that versteeg is on the block in T.O.

Oh well, off to bed. Night assens!

  29. First, this game have shown exactly why Rangers are going to make play-offs this year.

Second, ANY attempt to trade Dubi will indicate that the management learned nothing from the disaster we’ve been through just few years ago.

  30. No, they wouldn’t “go far” – after all that was done to this team by so called “management” during last 15 years we should be realistic. But they will get there 2-3 years from now if, of course, they don’t do idiotic things like trading out Dubi or MDZ or Cally or anything of this sort.

  31. Iginla isn’t the answer. Especially not for that much in return. Still want to see what this team looks like once Prospal and Callahan are in the lineup and the entire roster is healthy for the first time this season. If they’re going to bring in a veteran it has to be someone who fills a primary need not just “because you can’t play only kids”

  32. ranger MO. trade for a over the hill star with multi years left on a too generous deal….

    PASS PASS PASS. iGINLA no

can’t beleive anisimov won over 50% of his draws every draw in the offensive zone he lost.

i love ranger fans that are giving up on 20 year old del zotto, how stupid are you???????????????????????????????

  33. why…why…WHY cant the dmen of NYR stay on their feet??? wtf is up with constant kneeling or sliding by our D? that was TWO-on-TWO play, but Gilroy decides to slide!! oh well… at least we got a point (that’s what losers usually say to make themselves feel better)

Remember those days when Tampa Bay helped us get into the playoffs but losing like 8 straight games to us in one season? …yeah, me neither.

  34. I’m not giving up on him, but if trading Del Zotto got us the Stanley Cup this year, I think everyone would be OK with that. (PS why has he been scratched so much lately? That would be unthinkable last season).

I would definitely trade for Iginla if we got to keep Del Zotto somehow but I don’t see it happening any other way unless CGY caves…

For some reason I see Iginla as the one guy who would help us beat the teams in a playoff series we otherwise wouldn’t be able to. Imagine him running wild on the Flyers…

Oh and I’m 99% sure that Dallas is gonna ride Brad Richards out this season and won’t trade him.

  35. As for Dubinsky- isn’t it kind of known that he hasn’t exactly ingratiated himself to people around the team?

  36. MDZ has been scratched this season because unlike last season, we have depth at the D position and can afford to not play a D man who has momentarily lost his way. I am no where near giving up on the kid but lets face it he hasn’t been good recently, he has shown no prowess on the PP or in the offensive zone, and his defensive play has been mediocre at best. Gilroy on the other hand came in to fill in for a game with MDZ hurt and busted his butt and played really well, he deserves the few more games that he has gotten and i have no problem with that. Worst comes to worst, it increases his trade value if we go that route with him come the deadline.

Also, of course, no thanks on Iginla. I don’t really think this team is ready to “win NOW” so there is no reason to make a win now move, the team is finally establishing a system and a great identity and like torts says, we should live and die with the kids. In 2 years from now if the team keeps going in the direction it has gone we are gonna have one hell of a hockey team.

Which brings up another point, remember all the people calling for Torts’ head at the end of last year? I’m so glad they didn’t cave in to the people who were calling for his head. He is the perfect coach for the kind of team we are looking to build.
