In some ways, you guys had already gotten your gifts … these first 36 games by the new-look, new-attitude, new-commitment New York Rangers.
Yes, they’re only in seventh in the East, and that’s not worthy of a parade or anything, but you have to absolutely be ecstatic about this team so far this year, and the direction the organization is headed.
And as I was saying to some friends on a a blogtalkradio interview the other night, if this team gets into the playoffs—and it will—are there many teams in the East that you’d say they definitely could not beat in a seven-game series?
No.
So, before we get too far ahead of ourselves and start doing a season-in-review or a playoff preview, let’s celebrate this holiday break by appreciating the first 36.
And I thought, given the clever and creative way you all think, it might be fun to play Santa to the Rangers or to the NHL, or to each other, or whomever.
I’ll start:
To Glen Sather: A giant eraser for the free-agency side of the ledger, and a bright yellow highlighter for the trades list.
To Marian Gaborik: Six months of perfect health, and somebody to get him the darn puck.
To Gary Bettman: Snowflakes and an 8-7 overtime Pittsburgh win in the Winter Classic, in which all the goals are scored by Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. And an unpenalized slew foot by Crosby. And people outside of Pittsburgh and Washington who give a crap.
To Martin St. Louis: Oh, never mind. Michal Rozsival already gave him his present.

Ilb I think spending the last 2 1/2 hours catching up on all the post might qualify me as being a “true” bonehead although silent I maybe . I so missed this place if I miss a day but we now have a new little rangers fan . I introduced my little 2 1/2 year old granddaughter to the New York Rangers on Festivus Day. I baby sat her & her sister on Thursday but I told my daughter that I had to watch the hockey game in return for my services ! Truly a Festivus miracle as they don’t watch hours of T.V. especially a hockey game. Well this morning my daughter informed me on their way home last night from the time she got in the car she was chanting “shoot the puck” & “Lets go Rangers”. I am now going to work on teaching her the goal song. Carp thanks for the advice to spend time with loved ones family & friends. I absolutely lov this place!
