Merry Christmas!

In some ways, you guys had already gotten your gifts … these first 36 games by the new-look, new-attitude, new-commitment New York Rangers.

Yes, they’re only in seventh in the East, and that’s not worthy of a parade or anything, but you have to absolutely be ecstatic about this team so far this year, and the direction the organization is headed.

And as I was saying to some friends on a a blogtalkradio interview the other night, if this team gets into the playoffs — and it will — are there many teams in the East that you’d say they definitely could not beat in a seven-game series?

So, before we get too far ahead of ourselves and start doing a season-in-review or a playoff preview, let’s celebrate this holiday break by appreciating the first 36.

And I thought, given the clever and creative way you all think, it might be fun to play Santa to the Rangers or to the NHL, or to each other, or whomever.

I’ll start:

To Glen Sather: A giant eraser for the free-agency side of the ledger, and a bright yellow highlighter for the trades list.

To Marian Gaborik: Six months of perfect health, and somebody to get him the darn puck.

To Gary Bettman: Snowflakes and an 8-7 overtime Pittsburgh win in the Winter Classic, in which all the goals are scored by Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. And an unpenalized slew foot by Crosby. And people outside of Pittsburgh and Washington who give a crap.

To Martin St. Louis: Oh, never mind. Michal Rozsival already gave him his present.

Anybody want to chime in with some others?

  36. Johnny, that Santa is a commie.

    On Dasher on Donna!

Santa, sorry, I forgot to put the caption under the photo. Here it is:

Bill McCreary, dressed as Santa (left) consoles Sidney Crosby after calling him for a slew foot penalty, the first penalty of Crosby’s career. PS, Crosby is now halfway to the all-time points streak record held by some guy who, according to the league, wasn’t nearly as great as Sid the Skid.

  37. and always have the iPhone in the car in case you have to drive on it.

Gotta go now. Having 23 boneheaded relatives over in a little while.

    Merry Christmas, all.

  38. I am watching a little bit the Knicks-Bulls game right now…Basketball is really not my favourite..
crazy to play on Christmas on noon time..

I didn´t have seen a whole shot in the Garden..wonder how many fans are in attendance ???

  39. Doodie Machetto on

“Having 23 boneheaded relatives over in a little while.”

One for every game in Crosby’s point streak and for the distance to the guy whom the league would have you believe was just the Moderately Good One.

  40. I’ve been in AZ for 30 years & I still can’t adjust to 72 degrees on Christmas day.
But my wife is in the Kitchen with my daughter & it sure smells like Christmas !

  41. Merry Christmas!

To me: Delicious Chinese food take out and a good movie! :P

Gonna go see “Black Swan” i heard it was very good!

Welcome to all the new posters today!

  61. Ria (the silent bonehead) on

I hope youse all had a Merry Christmas and got all that you wished for! Ilb I think spending the last 2 1/2 hours catching up on all the post might qualify me as being a “true” bonehead although silent I maybe . I so missed this place if I miss a day but we now have a new little rangers fan . I introduced my little 2 1/2 year old granddaughter to the New York Rangers on Festivus Day. I baby sat her & her sister on Thursday but I told my daughter that I had to watch the hockey game in return for my services ! Truly a Festivus miracle as they don’t watch hours of T.V. especially a hockey game. Well this morning my daughter informed me on their way home last night from the time she got in the car she was chanting “shoot the puck” & “Lets go Rangers”. I am now going to work on teaching her the goal song. Carp thanks for the advice to spend time with loved ones family & friends. I absolutely lov this place! Thanks to you especially Carp & all the Boneheads near & far

  62. Tiki - I heart Brett Favre on

And many many thanks to Carp for making this blog possible and integrating himself into the mix more than any other sports writer. And many thanks to all the boneheads that make this place such a special group to be a part of.

I know many of you may not believe this, and oft times, I dont believe it myself…. Life and sports are about hope and faith, and I believe our Rangers can win the Cup this year. Why not us?

Maybe it’s the Rangers time to rule the world!

  63. To Drury – His Long Forgotten Clutchness
To Avery – His Long Forgotten Edgeiness
    To Callahan – 4 inches, 20 lbs and the captain’s c
To Dubinsky – 30 more goals and 40 more assists
To Gaborik – 50 more goals, some hips, some legs, and a new doctor
To Sather – A 20 year old Wayne Gretzky
To Ranger Fans – A Stanley Cup
To Lundqvist – A Vezina Trophy
To Boogaard – Some Green Face Paint and Lou Ferrigno
