Preliminary Roster Set for 2010 U.S. National Junior Team
Twenty-Nine Players Invited to Pre-Tournament Camp in New York

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Hockey today named the 29 players that have been invited to its pre-tournament camp beginning Dec. 17 in Troy, Rochester, Jamestown and Amherst, N.Y., and make up the preliminary 2011 U.S. National Junior Team roster.

The camp will include exhibition games against Rensselaer’s men’s ice hockey team (Dec. 19), the Czech Republic (Dec. 21) and Norway (Dec. 23). The final U.S. National Junior Team 22-man roster will be announced prior to Team USA’s final exhibition game against Norway.

The 2011 U.S. National Junior Team will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2010-Jan. 5, 2011, in Buffalo and Niagara, N.Y.

“We’re excited with the group of players coming to the camp,” said Jim Johannson, general manager of the 2011 U.S. National Junior Team and also the assistant executive director of hockey operations for USA Hockey. “It was difficult to get down to the 29 and we’ll have some tough decisions to get down to our final 22-man roster, but that’s a good problem to have.”

Among those invited to the camp are eight returning players from the gold medal-winning 2010 U.S. National Junior Team, including goaltender Jack Campbell (Port Huron, Mich.); defenseman John Ramage (Chesterfield, Mo./Univ. of Wisconsin); and forwards Ryan Bourque (Boxford, Mass.), Jerry D’Amigo (Binghamton, N.Y.), Chris Kreider (Boxford, Mass./Boston College), Jeremy Morin (Auburn, N.Y.), Kyle Palmieri (Montvale, N.J.) and Jason Zucker (Las Vegas, Nev./Univ. of Denver).

Also highlighting the preliminary roster are 11 players from the gold medal-winning 2010 U.S. National Under-18 Team, including Campbell and Andy Iles (Ithaca, N.Y./Cornell Univ.) in goal; defensemen Adam Clendening (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Boston Univ.), Justin Faulk (South St. Paul, Minn./Univ. of Minnesota Duluth), Derek Forbort (Duluth, Minn./Univ. of North Dakota) and Jon Merrill (Brighton, Mich./Univ. of Michigan); and forwards Connor Brickley (Everett, Mass./Univ. of Vermont), Rocco Grimaldi (Rossmoor, Calif.), Matt Nieto (Long Beach, Calif./Boston Univ.), Brandon Saad (Gibsonia, Pa.) and Zucker.

yep, he is tied with gabby for team goal lead after 20 games with 11 goals.

  2. wicky© (We still need a hard hitting physical crease clearing d man!) on

anyone have video of ovi giving king some props in the penalty box after his scrap with orr (not our orr)???

  3. wicky© (We still need a hard hitting physical crease clearing d man!) on

nevermind, I found it. You guys should watch the caps-leaves clip on the link I post from about 20 seconds in to about 50 seconds in….

    http://www.tsn.ca/#

  4. Poor Frolov is unhappy with his ice time. Did he ever consider it was because Torts is unhappy with his production?

So, last season it was the Kings fault because they put him on a checking line. This year it’s Torts fault for not playing him enough.

  5. wicky© (We still need a hard hitting physical crease clearing d man!) on

    yep, a nice touch indeed…leadership!

  6. White clears waivers for the third time!

    ***

This is why when I see trade proposals of White/EC/Frolov/Kennedy/(insert spare part forward here)…I just try to tune it all out. These guys can be had for nothing but $ and still no one wants to take them.

  7. well said Charlie. Frolov needs to go play in the K. Hard to believe from what we’ve seen out of his thus far that he’s scored 30 in a season. We don’t have much luck with Russians on this team.

  8. speaking of NHL11 from the last thread

Did any of you notice who the captain is? That’s right…Ryan Callahan is wearing the “C” in the game

  9. wicky© (We still need a hard hitting physical crease clearing d man!) on

drury has the C in my game with prust and cally with the A.

  10. Hello All, My 2nd time speaking with you all. I just wanted to share that since beginning of this season, I have been BIG supporters of both Prust and Boyle. So much so, I went to the team store in MSG looking to overpay for a T-shirt with their name and number to find that they are not available. So when I spoke to “deep voice guy” in the hallway on my way in and asked why, he said…That’s a great question, go to the main store and request it. So I went and asked the woman who was the manager in the store. She couldn’t pronounce either of their names, which leads me to believe that nothing will happen……..So I am looking to you all here. How would you go about getting something like this done. I know Prust more than Boyle has a presence on this team and I think needs to be recognized for it. The funny thing is they have Stepan shirts which surprised me. I mean I get it, they are 3rd/4th line guys, but who is ther jerk that determines who gets sold and who doesn’t???? ah, I feel much better, thanks for listening :-)

  11. Andrew is reporting new lines from Practice….

    Ruslan Fedotenko-Derek Stepan-Marian Gaborik
    Brandon Dubinsky-Artem Anisimov/Chris Drury-Ryan Callahan
    Sean Avery-Brian Boyle-Brandon Prust
    Alex Frolov-Erik Christensen-Derek Boogaard/Todd White

It´s like in the lottery or the coach probably missed to try out something new ???
I hope he doesnt put Gabby in Goal for Hendrik :)

  12. Lines at practice…

    * Ruslan Fedotenko, Derek Stepan, Marian Gaborik
    * Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, Chris Drury/Ryan Callahan
    * Sean Avery, Brian Boyle, Brandon Prust
    * Alexander Frolov, Erik Christensen, Todd White/Derek Boogaard

Those lines make make happy! Aside from Feds on the top line, but who cares. EC, and Froloaf are where they need to be. Artie is where he should be, as well as Step-On.

  13. Hey Meliss – thanks for posting. You’re not alone in supporting Prust & Boyle. Both have been playing very good & are a big part of our team.
Don’t be so silent – post more often.

  14. That fourth line is essentially Gaby’s double-shifting line….White & Boogaard won’t be on the ice very much….

  15. CCCP…thank you my friend. However, those fargin bastiges will not let you do current roster names for that!
    Tony glad too…..
My 2 cents….when on the PP, why are the point men on the wrong shooting side? It seems they take the pass have to turn around to make a shot. Wouldn’t it be better to be on the correct side so they can shot off the pass??
If anyone goes to MSG today as I cannot make it, tell Boyle I am proud of him and to keep up the good work and then give em a lil hug from me. :-p

  16. Meliss

i don’t know what you’re talking about but i just tried to customize a few of those (long and short sleeve) and there was no problem putting current roster player name

  17. hmmm…maybe I am having a pretty moment, I tried men’s long sleeve with Boyle, then Prust and I received that error. I will check later when I get home from work. Thank you!

  18. Dallas will have to take Frolov as part of a Richards deal, they’ll spin it by saying they took him “to stay in the playoff hunt.”

  19. Meliss

You know what…you were right! I was putting the wrong player number that’s why it let me put the name! My bad, dude/dudette! :)

  20. let’s not forget that we did Dallas a favor by taking Avery back… so they owe us one!

but then again…why trade for a guy that will be available for money in the summer?

  21. Totally off topic…

Did Billy Jaffe get hired anywhere this year? I always liked him on the Islander broadcasts and have this hope that he’ll replace Joe at some point.

  22. Per Gross – hmmmmm all this line changing and catching some heat getting to Gabby?

“- Weird scene at the end of practice as the players went in one-on-one against the goalies. Gaborik, frustrated that he didn’t score, sort of fell on top of Lundqvist inside the net and held him down, giving him a little cross-check to the back. When Gaborik finally got off the goalie, he used his own stick to flick Lundqvist’s stick through the air and toward the left boards. Lundqvist was laughing about it later but admitted Gaborik was frustrated.”

  23. White cleared waivers? Whew…My heart seemingly stopped for the last 24 hours, I was so worried he would be picked up…

  24. Tiki - I am a nudge: One who persistently pesters, annoys, or complains. on

get the paddles ready for ILB, stat!

  25. That Avery Talbot clip always makes me LOL. That was a nice spin move by Grabovsky in that skills competition. Cmon Thursday, get here faster!!!!

  26. Hi Ogie. Buy you a soda after the game? on

    Noonan –
    You’re right about your feelings.
Gosh I wish I could bear the burden of being demoted while earn $6.5 million per year. How does Wade survive? BS

  27. Hi Ogie. Buy you a soda after the game? on

I would have given my left you know what to play pro hockey. I just will never understand guys like Redden and EC…

  28. poor Wade… i wish i had his life.

Can’t he get out of this contract by quitting? For 2 million a year you could be very useful to some team, Wade.

  29. I’d like to see Gabby do that to the opposing goalie, not his own fuggin teammate. Fugg’s his problem? What if he injured Hank? Then it would be

    13th – Rangers
    14th – Devils
    15th – Islanders

Noah, he works with Versus now. I can’t believe the Isles got rid of him for that fugly freak of nature, B*tch Goring. The guy is horrible, and looks horrifying. He looks like an un-burned Freddy Kreuger.

  30. Blue Seat Horror on

I always thought that when he coached the Isles Goring looked like Slugworth from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Now he looks like the walking dead.

  31. Blue Seat Horror on

ilb, I tried that TSN link you posted and got a pop-up window that said “Canada only!” What are they saying about the US in their broadcasts that they don’t want to share it with us? You know, if they didn’t bring enough broadcasting to share with all of us they shouldn’t broadcast at all.

Also of note (don’t know if this has been posted), no Rangers’ prospects made the Canadian WJC prelim 39 player roster. Link:

    http://www.tsn.ca/world_jrs/feature/?id=33764

  32. Blue Seat Horror on

“After what Sather gave Redden, I hope Wade gets Sather a nice Christmas gift”

    Like gold-frosted stogies?

  33. WTF?!? Torts needs to give the Avery/Gabby more time!!! Stepan with them is EVEN BETTER than Mr. Softie Backstabber.

  34. I can’t believe “redden” and “interesting” were mentioned in the same sentence. . . .but, it was interesting. It should be a cautionary tale to any UFA who has the balls to ask and get that kind of money. Redden will NEVER play in the NHL again, and he f***ing deserves it. The only justice that hasn’t been served, is on Sather’s part. I am not a Sather basher, but he is as culpable for the Redden debacle as Wade Redden is himself.

  35. I’d try Aves there for another game or two – the first game they did well, and the other two were horrible, but so was everyone else just about. They were weird games, no energy. Torts keeps asking for consistency, but maybe you need to have some consistency with the lines. Even forgetting Gabby’s line, why mess up another line that is working. I don’t buy it that breaking up a good line spreads out the scoring. We tried that all last year. I miss Vinny…

  36. Tony – Don’t remember if we did – they don’t want Dubi playing center so…not sure. I’d like to see that though.

  37. Blue Seat- I don’t recall posting any links today, sorry.

Redden should STBU. Did you know that he actually takes home more than Gaborik? Even though Gaborik makes $7.5M per, his salary is a subject to 17% escrow (for the first quarter of this season), so his actual salary is $6.225M. AHL salaries don’t count into NHL’s gross, hence they are not a subject to escrow. So his actual salary is $6.5M

  38. Blue Seat – follow the link and click on watch more clips on our video player, on the right side – you have to scroll down a couple rows

  39. Drury should play LW with Stepan in the middle and Gaby on the right. I have a lot more faith in Drury being a scoring threat on that line over Frolov or Feds….plus it gives us a reliable faceoff man on the line…

Artie needs to play more minutes to get his game back…He should be playing with Dubi and Cally as they showed strong chemistry together…I understand Torts’ concern about giving him more, he really hasn’t earned it.

Frolov is complaining about his ice-time. Hmmm, sounds like this scenario already played out in LA. No one will take him in a trade. There is no value there. It is a shame that this guy hasn’t worked out, not only for his own career but, for the Rangers prospects. I would have much rather seen Kennedy or MZA in his place. Who wants to see a slow, lazy, and enigmatic Frolov try and fail to score on a wraparound again? Not me.

  40. CCCP, it’s dudette, and that’s ok I still think you are pretty!
I am just going to go to the MSG store at every game I go to and ask for them. See what happens.

  41. >>Did Billy Jaffe get hired anywhere this year? I always liked him on the Islander broadcasts

I believe Billy Jaffe does some work for Versus and NHL Network now.

  42. Meliss

Yes…i am pretty! How did you know? Are you my secret admirer? :)

Btw, i think Cosby’s do names and numbers right at the store.

Also, Lids stores can put any name any number any style!

  43. I’d rather see Chris Kreider playing LW on the Rangers with Stepan and Gaborik this year, than with Team USA. But I will certainly enjoy watching Kreider and Bourque lead USA to victory. After seeing how well both Kreider and Bourque played in last years tournament, especially Kreider… Now that their both a year older, I have a feeling the two of them are going to dominate the tourney this year.

  44. Brandon Saad is supposedly a phenom. I remeber reading he may go very high (top-5) in 2011 draft.

  45. “It’s absolutely unacceptable to me that that I spend 7-8 minutes a game on the ice, especially on an energy line. It’s just not my game, which I told the coach candidly. But there are no personal problems between me and him. I’m not a quarrelsome person. Even in our recent conversation there was no swearing or raised voices. Nobody blamed anyone, we simply discussed the situation. The coach promised that soon everything will change, I just need to be a little patient and work harder in practice.”

“absolutely unacceptable” is more than just “unacceptable.

“told” is firm, “said” is soft. Likely argumentive words; this is confirmed by “candidly” which suggests that Frolov felt that Ranger management may not have understood how serious he is about this.

“there are no personal problems” and “I’m not a quarrelsome person” show just how personal, sensitive, and ugly it became. When someone offers what didn’t happen, what wasn’t said, or what they are not, it is called “negation” and is highly sensitive.

Note that in the “recent” conversation there was no swearing or raised voices. This indicates that in a prior one, there was cursing and yelling.

“Nobody blamed…” is also telling us what didn’t happen. It is the same when a love interest offers, “nothing happened!” . Since “nothing” cannot take place, something happened. Here, there was blame.

The coach; not, not Coach, nor Coach Torts nor Torts; distance, impersonal language.

Frolov may be on his way out. I cannot see Torts on his way out. This was a very unpleasant exchange and something will give. I expect Frolov to be wearing a new uniform, perhaps even before the holiday roster freeze.

  46. Sorry, I posted it without explanation. This is allegedly Frolov’s recent statement that I found on ESPN board. Statement is first with analysis (and conclusion) to follow:

“It’s absolutely unacceptable to me that that I spend 7-8 minutes a game on the ice, especially on an energy line. It’s just not my game, which I told the coach candidly. But there are no personal problems between me and him. I’m not a quarrelsome person. Even in our recent conversation there was no swearing or raised voices. Nobody blamed anyone, we simply discussed the situation. The coach promised that soon everything will change, I just need to be a little patient and work harder in practice.”

“absolutely unacceptable” is more than just “unacceptable. Heightened sensitivity to “unacceptable”

“told” is firm, “said” is soft. He uses the firm or stronger language. Likely argumentive words; this is confirmed by “candidly” which suggests that Frolov felt that Ranger management may not have understood how serious he is about this.

Note Negation: “there are no personal problems” and “I’m not a quarrelsome person” show just how personal, sensitive, and ugly it became.

In this form, we know someone was blamed, which is why it entered his vocabulary.
It is the same when a love interest caught in an uncomfortable position offers, “nothing happened!” . Since “nothing” cannot take place, something happened. Sorry, but it is true. If “nothing happened!” is offered with shoulder shruggs, even more so happened than you might have suspected.

Here, there was blame in the argument.

  47. >>If he doesn’t go top 5, he might be a little saad

I think it’ll be even saader for Rangers fans if he ends up in New Jersey or Uniondale.

  48. Czechthemout!!!! on

Those Richards rumors are ridiculous! Did anyone look at the standings before trying to sell newspapers? Only a dope like Larry Brooks would concoct a trade so stupid. The Stars are in second place in the conference three points behind the Red Wings. Why on earth would they trade the leading scorer on their team when they could potentially go deep into the playoffs?

Move on from this nonsense. Like someone else on here said in an earlier post. I too would rather have Kreider up here playing on Gabby’s left side with Stepan in the middle. I ‘ve seen him play a ton of games over the last few years and he is ready to go. If possible, I would work on signing him after the WJC.

I don’ t want to hear the seasoning, not quite ready, big step up from college blah blah blah crap. Just look at how well Stepan is playing.

  49. “At ESPN.com Pierre LeBrun writes that if the Dallas Stars trade Brad Richards before the February 28th trade deadline it will be because they were offered a deal that sets them up “for the next five years.”

I guess that means they wont give him up for nothing like some suggested.

  50. Czechthemout!!!! on

The Rangers won’t give Dallas the assets needed to ” set them up for five years”. No one will. Not for a player that is about to become an FA. Dallas will not trade Richards unless they falling out of the top four or five in their conference.

The more intriguing rumor I read today is that the Rangers are going to make a push for Stamkos in the off season. Apparently, they don’t think TB would be able to match a ten year $85 million contract. They are prepared to give up four number one picks because they think Stamkos is that good. I also don’t think this will happen because TB is finished as a franchise if they lose Stamkos. That’s why I doubt that happens.

  51. Has anyone bought a jersey from pro-jerseys.com? If so, are the jerseys good quality? Looking to get a Heritage jersey from the site.

    Thanks!

  52. Where did you hear that Czech? I don’t think Stevie Y is going to let Stammer become a RFA. Tampa is trying to sign him now. Plus, the Rangers certainly wouldn’t be the only team to throw him an offer sheet of $8-$10 million per year. The Blues, Islanders, and Oilers come to mind…

Hey, but who knows? He is best friends with Del Zotto…and the Rangers do need a dynamic center :)

  53. Noah

  54. Thanks Blue! That makes me feel better.

Gonna order my Dublowsky Heritage jersey in honor of Orr. Hope he gets re-signed!

  55. The Brad Richards rumor began at ESPN “Insider” where the public is asked to pay money to hear “expert” opinions. They need shocking stories to make money; hence, the Brad Richards’ story.

    Anyone interested in Patrice Cormier?

I did an analysis of his “apology” at http://www.seamusoriley.blogspot.com

Most of the material there is detecting deception in criminal cases, but once in awhile I do celebs, politicians and athletes.

I am, however, a Ranger fan above analysis.

  56. Lol Noah – are you actually gonna have them customize it with “Dublowsky”? I’ve always wanted a “Crosbiatch” myself.

  57. Hahaha no no…it’s going to be a standard Dubinsky jersey.

I think someone should get a customized “Dublowsky” jersey for Orr for Christmas though.

  58. ddebened

just read the Russian article you posted on Frolov.

The article talks about Frolov being unhappy with demotion. He told it to Torts (whom the article called “despotic coach” lol ) in private conversation which Frolov initiated himself.

From Frolov’s words: Torts said that he has nothing personal against me and just trying to find links and that playing time distribution depends only on him (as i understood, “him” being Torts) There is no open antipathy between us.

Frolov also said that he isn’t completely sure what it is that Torts wants from him and added that he is still trying to adjust to a new system where a winger is asked to work harder in the defensive zone which is different from what he’s used to playing in LA.

Torts wants me (Frolov) to shoot more from any angle and be more physical around the ice and more specifically in front of the net, but i never miss an opportunity to take the body.

Frolov: Torts promised in the near future to give me more ice time. We will see how it will turn out.

instead of rozy, yes I would take him!

  61. Hey gang! Just checking in quickly before I head off to bed early thanks to another week of long hours.

That press release is a weird confluence of places in my life. Troy(my hometown), Rensselear (aka RPI to the locals and the school is less than 2 minutes from the house I grew up in), Jamestown (Spent a few days there while I was college at St Bona’s. Hometown of Lucille Ball, too.) and Chesterfield, MO (no lie, I was there TWICE this past weekend to go shopping). In any case, that should be a really good team. Anyone know if the games will be shown in NHL Network like they were last year?

Oh, and Frolov complaining of playing time? Shuddup and actually score some goals and maybe you will get more ice time, Alex.

Nice to see the Pack Line reunited.

    Niters gang!

  62. wicky© (We still need a hard hitting physical crease clearing d man!) on

just thinking of rozy and how bad he is!

  63. Has anyone taken notice of how good a hockey player Pascal Dupuis is?

I was outraged at the time Sather traded him for (I believe) it was Cullen. And then it seemed like only a heartbeat before Cullen was no longer here. Dumbness prevailed. I still do a slow burn every time I see Dupuis
with the Penguins. He was here for a few games, scored a couple of goals, did terrific penalty kill, and gonzo.
    .

  64. “As others have noted, Cam Fowler is a terrific talent on the ANA blueline. He should turn out to be a tremendous draft day bargain. Wow.”

    Tweet from Bob MacKenzie.

  65. People are only high on Fowler because he didn’t get a chance to get drafted by NY. You know, the place where you’re written off as a bust while you’re still walking from the stands to the stage on draft day. :P

Isn’t it just so easy to imagine? “Fowler is just more of the same from Sather. We needed size and all we got was another mediocre puck moving Dman. FIRE SATHER! Trade Fowler for Richards!”

  66. Linda CalPrustBoylahan on

    Good day before gameday morning!!

James, thanks for the laugh to start my day, it might be the only one i have until i get home from hell.

  68. wicky© (We still need a hard hitting physical crease clearing d man!) on

    Morning ILB and all!

    Doodie
    Happy Birthday!!!

    Beth
    go for it!

    Fran
Yes, I thought he was a pretty good pick up for us. But I think players get different opportunities and will obviously have different successes with different organizations. I don’t think he would have put up quite the goal numbers here he does in pitt, but his d game and speed would have been the same.

It’s kind of like the fowler thing, just because the ducks had a place on the blueline for him right away doesn’t mean he would have gotten that opportunity with us (or how ever many other teams passed over him). I would hardly call him a “steal” in a draft that just happened! Hank was a “STEAL” when he was picked, but to give the kid a spot in the HOF already or label him a steal because he has played well for a partial season. Give it a few years folks.

  69. Fedotenko on the first line? Ugh.

Call up the smurf and have a top line of Smurf, Stepan, Gabby. They might score, but they might not. I’ll say this, with Christensen or Fedotenko on the top line you’re almost guaranteed not to score unles they’re playing the dregs of the NHL like the Islanders or Oilers.

  70. Didn’t catch that quote about Gabby from Gross. Me thinks it’s in their best interest to get him comfortable and playing with atleast one player on a consisten basis.
