Because Aves can’t shoot to save his life. For everything else he does good on the ice, the guy either shoots right into the breadbasket, or he shoots fifty feet wide and thirty feet high.

This game is far from over but we don’t win this game last year.
The only reason that penalty is around is because players would deliberately throw it into the crowd if they were under pressure at the end of a shift. It’s an unfair play, and I don’t mind it at all.

I was some what surprised that the “Wild” ( that name kills me),went so quietly in front of their home crowd.Only unusual thing Inoticed was that there seemed to be a lot fewer long ocean to ocean passes in this game.
I like Lundquist’s unusal style. In my book he is the best goaltender we have had in the last 30 years. Sometimes He is incredible and others ordinary because he seems to forget the basics, Like hugging the post, stick flat. The clip they showed last night with him practicing with Benoit and Mike that was what they were doing. Biron even gave up a not hugging the post last night. I have come to appreciate just how hard a position goaltending is and that there is alot you must be aware of at all times and even the best have a hard time doing it all correct. Lundquist needs the team to limit the shots and chances on him. All too often the opponents get over 30 shot and even with Hank’s save percentage that’s too many. I know I’m going ot get flack that Richter was better but he played with better defensive teams and check out his stats often times during any season he was not even in the top 30 of any stat.

MDZ’s goal was the perfect picture of him correcting what has been wrong. He waited and made a smart decision with the puck. The shorthanded goal was the definition of his problems: going for the big play instead of the smart one and getting burned for it.
Lundquist : save percentage .914 rank 22nd, goals against 2.75 rank 25th, shots against 475 (ten others with more including Neuvirth,Price, and Bobrovsky). Lundquist is a mediocre goalie that has occasional flashes of brilliance.
steve i agree. also, biron made some good saves but for long stretches, was not busy at all. the way the team plays in front of hank is different. lax and giving up too many odd mans against. even last night they tightened up after the first, and wild had few real quality chances on beeraww. hank is a better goalie no doubt, and colorado is a way better offensive team than minny. its early, and maybe hank is finally feeling some pressure from biron. ya never know .

dangir- thats this year buddy. look at his whole body of work first before just putting out a 20 game stretch where hes been average. i swear, next game hank wins and plays great, i swear were gonna see comments about teh 1 goal he gave up and how he shoul;dve stopped it. in his 5-6 years playing, hes been tops in alot of stat categories, been pretty consistent year to year, maybe not game to game. but overall, he is having a great career. he needs to get better of course, but he will. watch.
an comparing hank to richter is totally unfair. richters stats were not mind blowing. like its been said he had a much better d in front of him, and when he didnt, he wasnt as good.
you gotta be kidding about comparing hank in a month and half of playing to bobrovsky and price/neuvirth. cmon. look at the teams 2 of them play for. caps who spend 3/4 of the game in the other teams end, the flyers who have guys like pronger, coburn, meszaros, all big physical d men. and their offense is about on par with the rest of the best teams in the league. price sucked for how long???

Well said Ilb. It must just be that no one is good enough in NY for some fans. I mean who the heck would be better than Lundqvist as our starter at this point? Pick any goalie from the league and put him on this team with this style of play and these dmen and tell me who is going to be leaps and bounds better. Who is going to be better than top 5 in wins and save % like Lundqvist. Luongo? He’s the only one I could think of who played with a crappy team in front of him back in the Panther days. Again, maybe some people here should put things in perspective and be thankful that we aren’t in the same boat as teams like Philly and Ottawa who haven’t had the luxury of NOT having a question mark in between the pipes EVER.

As for Henrik, only goalie to win 30+ in his first five seasons in the league. On top of that, playing 70+ games in each of the last 4 seasons with very little defensive help takes its toll on a guy. Without Hank….well I. L. B. put it best.

Where did I state or even imply that LQ was not a very good goal tender? And please don’t belabor me with what would they have done IF… back then. There is no way to measure what ifs.
I am NOT calling for his removal. I am trying to get across that in MY OPINION he should always stay a Ranger…but he’s a work in progress. He is reasonably good…but he could be so much more with not that much extra effort and attention to details.

Look at it this way….....what are LQ’ moves? He warms up in the goal mouth and P-R-A-C-T-I-C-E-S….....his butterfly drop. As if this were the move that he is deficient in. He has perfected the butterfly !

Would it shatter his entire being to be taught and try practicing the double deck pad slide forward with pads together on shooters and check his diagonal line to see what the shooter sees? ( all of this during practice of course.) And don’t forget, there is another player in this dynamic and never forget him;
LET’S CALL HIM “STICKBLADE”.
Keeping in mind that Stickblade sees what the shooter and goaltender cannot see.the true line of direction of the shot that is being readied. I believe that Russian players are made very aware of Stickblade at a very early age. How come? Because they seem to be more advanced than many north americanos at putting home shots from what looks like impossible angles.
Might also answer the question as to why so many Ranger kids shots go wide of the net.

Believe it or not…I used to play this game back when I was a left shooting right wing by default. I always wanted to play left wing, but was never allowed to. In fact I was barely allowed on the team.
